Aim: The conditions such as pregnancy, old age, health problems and hospitalization negatively affect the sleep quality. Improving patients' sleep problems is a part of nursing care. Nurses try to reduce patients' sleep problems by using back massage, which is one of the non-drug methods. This systematic review was carried out to evaluate the effect of back massage application on the sleep quality of individuals. Material and Method: The PRISMA protocol was followed in the conduct of the study. MEDLINE (EBSCOhost), SAGE, SCIENCE DIRECT, ULAKBIM (national academic network and information center), COCHRANE databases, and SEMANTIC SCHOLAR search engine were scanned through Atatürk University's internet access network. The literature review conducted using Turkish and English keywords, 1044 articles were reached, and 14 articles met the inclusion criteria. Prospective, randomized controlled, or experimental/quasi-experimental design research articles written in Turkish and English were included in the review. Results: 71.4% of the reviewed studies had randomized control groups. In 92.8% of the studies, it was determined that the massage duration varied between 3 and 30 minutes and that the back massage improved sleep quality. Conclusion: In this systematic review, it was concluded that back massage application was an effective intervention in increasing the sleep quality of the patients and that this massage should be applied for at least 10 minutes late in the day and every session. Aim: This study was carried out to determine the awareness of nurses on the use of music in nursing care. Method: 218 nurses working in a university hospital in Turkey were included in this descriptive and cross-sectional study. The data of the study were collected between May 1 and July 15, 2017 using the data collection form consisting of two parts which was prepared by the researchers. Descriptive statistics were used in the evaluation of data. Results: While 90.8% of the nurses participating in the study stated that they did not receive any education on the use of music in nursing care, 92.7% of them stated that they found the use of music in care useful, and 52.3% and 54.1% of them stated that music could be used in intensive care patients and in relieving stress, anxiety and worry, respectively. Furthermore, 59.2% of the nurses stated that they did not know the effects of the types of music/maqam on mood, 75.7% of them stated that they did not know at what times of the day they would make it listen and 73.4% of them stated that they did not know on which problems it was effective. Background: İt is found out that one of the most pain giving and causing disturbance of the interventions applied for the patients at the hospitals is İM injection. To reduce individuls pain is very important to the nurses. The pain depending on intramuscular injections which have physical and emotional effect should be reduced to maintain patientnurse relations, patient satisfaction, nursing quality and the adaptation of the patient to the medicinal treatment. Aim :This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of music and the pressure applied to the site on pain induced by intramuscular injection. Methods:The data of the study were collected between 15 March and 1 June 2014. 78 voluntary individuals were included in the study. The injections were administered by using three methods; “applying pressure” to the site before injection, "music practice" starting before injection and lasting until the end of injection, and "standard practice" where no special practice was done. Three injections were administered to each participant from ventrogluteal site with 24-hour interval. 1 ml sterile apyrogenic distilled water was used as injection solution in all injections and the participants marked the level of the pain, experienced by them, on Visual Analogue Scale right after the injections. Results : Mean pain scores were found to be 3.1±2.2, 3.1±2.3 and 2.0±1.9 for standard, pressure and music applications respectively. In standard and pressure applications, difference between mean pain scores was found to be statistically not significant (p>0.05). However, the differences between the mean scores of standard injection and music applications (p˂0.05) and between music and pressure applications (p˂0.05) were found to be significant. Conclusions:It was determined that listening to music was effective in reducing the pain induced by intramuscular injection, and the standard injection administration and pressure application method had no effect. Purpose : This study has been conducted with a view to determining the level of satisfaction of patients hospitalized at the oncology clinic of Ataturk University Research Hospital with nursing services provided. Method : Research population consisted of 90 patients who have been hospitalized at the oncology clinic of Erzurum Ataturk University Research Hospital. The study has covered 60 patients who agreed to take part in the research. Data collection has been realized by use of Personal Information Sheets and the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scales (NSNS). Data collected has been analysed by means of SPSS software. Necessary written permission for the research has been received from the health institution concerned. Findings : It has been determined that the level of patients’ overall satisfaction with nursing services received was 58.67. The patients have stated that the highest level of satisfaction (3.36 points) involved “the respect shown by the nurses for privacy of the patients” whereas the lowest level of satisfaction (2.88 points) pertained to “the way that the nurses comforted the relatives and friends of the patients”. It has been found out that factors such as age, gender, educational background, marital status, level of income, hospitalization duration, social security status, area of residence, availability of non-patient companion, etc. of the patients did not affect their satisfaction in terms of nursing care. Conclusion : As a result of the research conducted, it has been determined that the patients’ satisfaction with nursing services received was at a medium level, and that factors such as age, gender, educational background, marital status, level of income, hospitalization duration, social security status, area of residence, availability of non-patient companion, etc. of the patients did not affect their satisfaction in terms of nursing care. Purpose: This study has been conducted with a view to determining nurses’ level of cognizance and knowledgeability in regard to nursing diagnoses that are frequently encountered in the case of individuals who need care. Method: Research population consisted of 650 nurses who have been working at Erzurum Ataturk University Research Hospital. The study has covered 100 nurses who agreed to take part in the research. The data has been collected by means of a questionnaire that was developed by the researcher and which included questions aimed at determining the nurses’ demographic characteristics as well as their level of cognizance and knowledgeability in respect of nursing diagnoses. Data collected has been analysed by use of SPSS software. Findings: 81.0 % of the nurses have stated that nursing diagnoses must be used in patient care. Likewise, the rate of nurses who have suggested that trainings provided in the field of nursing diagnoses are inadequate is also 81.0 %. On the other hand, 33.0 % of the nurses have stated that they have received no training in that field. Based on defining characteristics of various nursing diagnoses, the nurses’ correct answers as to identification of such diagnoses have the following rates: diagnosis of constipation and diagnosis of diarrhoea,61.0 %;diagnosis of disturbed personal identity,1.0%. It has been found out that there was a significant difference between the nurses’ educational levels and their correct answers regarding the identification of nursing diagnoses. On the other hand, it has been determined that there was no significant difference between nurses’ term of employment and their correct answers as to nursing diagnoses. Aim: This study examined if there was altered absorption of a drug administered by intramuscular injection into paralyzed tissue in rats with sciatic nerve injury. Materials and Method: In this experimental study 16 female Spraque Dawley rats (250–300 gr) and diclofenac sodium as drug were used. The rats were randomly divided into two groups. Axonotmesis was caused by clamping the rats’ sciatic nerves. Seven days after sciatic nerve trauma, drug were injected into the biceps femoris muscles of the two groups of rats. In the experimental groups of rats the paralyzed muscles were used. At the end of the experiment, blood samples were collected from the rats’ heart and the maximum plasma concentration levels of drug were measured. Results: The mean drug plasma concentrations levels of the experimental group was 8.84 µg/ml and the control group was 9.46 µg/ml. There was no significant difference between experimental group and control group terms of drug levels in plasma. Objective: To detect the prevalence of rubella and cytomegalovirus antibodies in the nursing students. Methodology: A total of 89 volunteer students in the age range of 18-20 years participated in the study. IgM and IgG antibodies were measured using the Enzyme Linked Fluorescent Assay VIDAS® system kit and apparatus. Results: In CMV serology, while anti-CMV IgG was positive in 85.4 % and anti-CMV IgM was positive in 9.0 % of the patients, the common positivity of anti-CMV IgG and anti-CMV IgM antibodies was determined as 2.2%. In the rubella serology, while rubella IgG positivity was 83.1%, rubella IgM positivity was not detected. Conclusions: It was found that higher rate of the students had experienced rubella and CMV in one period of their life. Aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the hand and nasal flora of nursing students before and after the clinical practice., Background: Hospitals are places where infective agents abound. Healthcare workers, relatives of patients and students practising in the hospital medium are often exposed to these infective agents. Although the role of the hand and nasal flora of healthcare workers in the development of nosocomial infections has been emphasised by earlier studies, there are a limited number of studies which investigate the hand and nasal flora of nursing students., Design: Descriptive., Methods: This descriptive study involved 66 volunteer nursing students. Two samples of flora from both hands and nose of each student were obtained. The inoculated samples were then evaluated through routine bacteriological study methods. Chi-square and percentage calculations were used in comparisons., Results: None of the students had methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococcus colonisation in the hand samples before clinical practice, 6.1% of the students had methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and 4.5% had methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative Staphylococcus colonisation after the practice. Although the differences between the rates of contamination with pathogen micro-organisms in the hand and nasal flora of the student nurses before and after clinical practice were not significant, the rate of colonisation after clinical practice was higher., Conclusions: In this study, the rate of colonisation after clinical practice was higher. These findings indicate that students might have been contaminated with bacteria during clinical practice., Relevance to Clinical Practice: The results of this study have practical importance in clinical practice. The role of the hand and nasal flora of nursing students in the development of nosocomial infections is significant. For this reason, some precautions, such as using gloves and handwashing with special solutions when needed, should be taken to prevent nosocomial infections and protect students against associated risks.
