1. Design and construction of a new, adaptable, test bed mounting system for an internal, combustion engine

Abstract: Treball desenvolupat dins el marc del programa 'European Project Semester'., An engine test bed is a device which allows measurements on engines by making them run in a static way, which means that there is no need to use the vehicle for which the motor was made. Test beds are used in research and development departments of motor manufacturers, in order to ensure the design and the operation of prototypes before they are placed on the market. Hence, several parameters like capacity, performance, efficiency and other physical and chemical characteristics are reviewed. Reliability is also an important aspect of the development process and very specific parts of the engine can be tested for this purpose. Test beds are used for every kind of engines: diesel, gasoline, marine, agricultural, truck or car engines. In the framework of the European Project Semester 2016 in the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, we had to work on the design and the construction of a new test bed adaptable mounting system for an internal combustion engine on the engine test bench of the Polytechnic University. The objective of our project was to make some alterations to the engine test bed on the engine mounting system in order to increase the flexibility of its use by making the engine switching easier and faster. We had to work with AKKA Company, in Dacia factory, on industrial engine test bed, to get inspired about the design, but also to test the mechanical comportment of it. Our work has been divided in three steps. First, general researches about engine test bed and the different mounting systems existing. Then, we carried out measures and draws on CATIA of the existing mounting system of the university test bench, in order to make a static simulation to check the design in terms of mechanical resistance and bending. Finally, the last task consisted in doing exactly the same work as the second one, but on the test bed in Dacia plant. Abstract: To achieve fully autonomous navigation, vehicles need to compute an accurate model of their direct surrounding. In this paper, a 3D surface reconstruction algorithm from heterogeneous density 3D data is presented. The proposed method is based on a TSDF voxel-based representation, where an adaptive neighborhood kernel sourced on a Gaussian confidence evaluation is introduced. This enables to keep a good trade-off between the density of the reconstructed mesh and its accuracy. Experimental evaluations carried on both synthetic (CARLA) and real (KITTI) 3D data show a good performance compared to a state of the art method used for surface reconstruction., IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC) 2019

Abstract: International audience; Collaboration in software engineering projects is usually intensive and requires adequate support by well-integrated tools. However, process-centered software engineering environ ments (PSEE) have traditionallybeen designed to exploit integration facilities in other tools, while offering themselves little to no such facilities.This is in line with the vision of the PSEE as the central orchestrator of project support tools. We argue that thisview has hindered the widespread adoption of process-based collaboration support tools by incurring too muchadoption and switching costs. We propose a new process-based collaboration support architecture, backed by aprocess metamodel, that can easily be integrated with existing tools. The proposed architecture revolves aroundthe central concepts of ‘deep links’ and ‘hooks’. Our approach is validated by analyzing a collection of open-source projects, and integration utilities based on the implemented process model server have been developed.

Abstract: International audience; The proactivity in maintenance management is improved by the implementation of CBM (Condition-Based Maintenance) principles and of PHM (Prognostic and Health Management). These implementations use data about the health status of the systems. Among them, prognostic data make it possible to evaluate the future health of the systems. The Remaining Useful Lifetimes (RULs) of the components is frequently required to prognose systems. However, the availability of complex systems for productive tasks is often expressed in terms of RULs of functions and/or subsystems; those RULs have to bring information about the components. Indeed, the maintenance operators must know what components need maintenance actions in order to increase the RULs of the functions or subsystems, and consequently the availability of the complex systems for longer tasks or more productive tasks. This paper aims at defining a generic prognostic function of complex systems aiming at prognosing its functions and at enabling the isolation of components that needs maintenance actions. The proposed function requires knowledge about the system to be prognosed. The corresponding models are detailed. The proposed prognostic function contains graph traversal so its distribution is proposed to speed it up. It is carried out by generic agents.

Abstract: Context.Spacecraft data revealed early on the frequent observation of multiple near-thermal proton populations in the solar wind. Decades of research on their origin have focused on processes such as magnetic reconnection in the low corona and wave-particle interactions in the corona and locally in the solar wind.Aims.This study aims to highlight the fact that such multiple thermal proton populations and beams are also produced by magnetic reconnection occurring locally in the solar wind.Methods.We used high-resolution Solar Orbiter proton velocity distribution function measurements, complemented by electron and magnetic field data, to analyze the association of multiple thermal proton populations and beams with magnetic reconnection during a period of slow Alfvénic solar wind on 16 July 2020.Results.At least six reconnecting current sheets with associated multiple thermal proton populations and beams, including a case of magnetic reconnection at a switchback boundary, were found on this day. This represents 2% of the measured distribution functions. We discuss how this proportion may be underestimated, and how it may depend on solar wind type and distance from the Sun.Conclusions.Although suggesting a likely small contribution, but which remains to be quantitatively assessed, Solar Orbiter observations show that magnetic reconnection must be considered as one of the mechanisms that produce multiple thermal proton populations and beams locally in the solar wind.

Abstract: Context.The Alfvénic slow solar wind is of particular interest, as it is often characterized by intense magnetic turbulence, complex proton 3D velocity distribution functions (VDF), and an ensuing richness of kinetic and dynamic processes.Aims.We take advantage of the fast time cadence of measurements taken by the Proton-Alpha Sensor (PAS) on board Solar Orbiter to analyze the kinetic properties of the proton population, the variability of their VDFs, and the possible link with propagating magnetic structures. We also study the magnetic (B) and velocity (V) correlation that characterizes this type of wind down to the ion gyroperiod.Methods.We analyzed the VDFs measured by PAS, a novelty that take advantages of the capability of 3D measurements at a 4 Hz cadence. In addition, we considered MAG observations.Results.We first show that there is a remarkable correlation between theBandVcomponents observed down to timescales approaching the ion gyrofrequency. This concerns a wide variety of fluctuations, such as waves, isolated peaks, and discontinuities. The great variability of the proton VDFs is also documented. The juxtaposition of a core and a field-aligned beam is the norm but the relative density of the beam, drift speed, and temperatures can considerably change on scales as short as as a few seconds. The characteristics of the core are comparatively more stable. These variations in the beam characteristics mostly explain the variations in the total parallel temperature and, therefore, in the total anisotropy of the proton VDFs. Two magnetic structures that are associated with significant changes in the shape of VDFs, one corresponding to relaxation of total anisotropy and the other to its strong increase, are analyzed here. Our statistical analysis shows a clear link between total anisotropy (and, thus, beam characteristics) and the direction ofBwith respect to the Parker spiral. In the present case, flux tubes aligned with Parker spiral contain an average proton VDF with a much more developed beam (thus, with larger total anisotropy) than those that are inclined, perpendicular, or even reverse with regard to the outward direction.Conclusions.These observations document the variability of the proton VDF shape in relation to the propagation of magnetic structures. This is a key area of interest for understanding of the effect of turbulence on solar wind dynamics.

Rapid polarity reversals of the radial heliospheric magnetic field were discovered by Ulysses and they are now frequently observed as a common near-Sun phenomenon by NASA’s Parker Solar Probe (PSP). Other solar wind missions, including ESA-NASA Solar Orbiter (SolO), also observe similar phenomena. The nature of these fluctuations is unclear, and the relation between the “switchbacks” observed near the Sun and similar events observed at 1 AU is unknown. Aims. We make a detailed case study of the SolO plasma and magnetic field data obtained in a region that is magnetically connected to a coronal hole. We aim to check whether such fluctuations might have the same origin as the “switchbacks” observed by PSP. Methods. We used PSP magnetic field and plasma data to support our analysis of SolO data. We used the magnetic field data, electron pitch angle distributions, proton velocity distribution functions, and α-particle parameters measured by SolO to perform a detailed analysis of the observed solar wind perturbations. Results. On 27 September 2020, PSP and SolO were located around the same Carrington longitude and their latitudinal separation was very small. Solar wind plasma and magnetic field data during this time interval confirms that (at least at certain times) the solar wind observed by both spacecraft does originate from the same coronal hole region and that during these time intervals, SolO experiences several short variations similar to the “switchbacks” regularly observed by PSP. Conclusions. The suprathermal electron pitch angle distributions and α-particle speed variations indicate that the magnetic field line was bent by 180° by solar wind velocity shear. Variations in electron and proton velocity distribution functions suggest that bent field lines reconnect with each other, producing flux ropes. The observed flux ropes might be the surviving and modified remains of the switchbacks created near Sun and observed by PSP.

Abstract: International audience; BepiColombo Mio (previously called MMO: Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter) was successfully launched by Ariane 5 from Kourou, French Guiana on October 20, 2018. The Mercury Plasma/Particle Experiment (MPPE) is a comprehensive instrument package onboard Mio spacecraft used for plasma, high-energy particle and energetic neutral atom measurements. It consists of seven sensors including two Mercury Electron Analyzers (MEA1 and MEA2), Mercury Ion Analyzer (MIA), Mass Spectrum Analyzer (MSA), High Energy Particle instrument for electron (HEP-ele), High Energy Particle instrument for ion (HEP-ion), and Energetic Neutrals Analyzer (ENA). Significant efforts were made pre-flight to calibrate all of the MPPE sensors at the appropriate facilities on the ground. High voltage commissioning of MPPE analyzers was successfully performed between June and August 2019 and in February 2020 following the completion of the low voltage commissioning in November 2018. Although all of the MPPE analyzers are now ready to begin observation, the full service performance has been delayed until Mio’s arrival at Mercury. Most of the fields of view (FOVs) of the MPPE analyzers are blocked by the thermal shield surrounding the Mio spacecraft during the cruising phase. Together with other instruments on Mio including Magnetic Field Investigation (MGF) and Plasma Wave Investigation (PWI) that measure plasma field parameters, MPPE will contribute to the comprehensive understanding of the plasma environment around Mercury when BepiColombo/Mio begins observation after arriving at the planet Mercury in December 2025.

Abstract: International audience; Accessing, visualizing and analyzing heterogeneous plasma datasets has always been a tedious task that hindered students and senior researchers as well. Offering user friendly and versatile tools to perform basic research tasks is therefore pivotal for data centres including the Centre de Données de la Physique des Plasmas (CDPP http://www.cdpp.eu/) which holds a large variety of plasma data from various Earth, planetary and heliophysics missions and observatories in plasma physics. This clearly helps gaining increased attention, relevant feedback, and enhanced science return on data. These are the key ideas that crystallized at CDPP more than 15 years ago and resulted in the lay-out of the concepts, and then development, of AMDA, the Automated Multi-Dataset Analysis software (http://amda.cdpp.eu/). This paper gives a description of the architecture of AMDA, describes its functionalities, presents some use cases taken from the literature or fruitful collaborations and shows how it offers unique capabilities for educational purposes.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents the results of a two-week robottaxi service demonstration in peri-urban and rural areas. A fully robotized Renault ZOE was available for general public use in the Rambouillet Territory in France. The driving zone included several complex scenarios as two-way narrow road driving, a tunnel crossing with lane reduction from two-way road up to a single narrow lane or roundabouts, allowing to evaluate the maturity of the vehicle for such application. This paper describes the scientific and technical development especially from perception, navigation and control point of view to carry out such demonstration. Results indicate that even if the vehicle was able to autonomously navigate through peri-urban and rural areas, there are still some technical challenges that limit its integration with the transport system.

Specifically, SSC lies in the ambiguous completion of large unobserved areas and the weak supervision signal of the ground truth. This led to a substantially increasing number of papers on the matter. This survey aims to identify, compare and analyze the techniques providing a critical analysis of the SSC literature on both methods and datasets. Abstract: The paper proposes a modeling of complex systems to prognose their ability to complete future tasks from local prognostics.The paper presents the decision support indicators.The paper presents inferences to compute the decision support indicators for each node of the model.The general algorithm of the prognostic function is then given.The paper shows how the computed decision support indicators can be used for production and maintenance joint planning. The high costs of complex systems lead companies to improve their efficiency. This improvement can particularly be achieved by reducing their downtimes because of failures or for maintenance purposes. This reduction is the main goal of Condition-Based Maintenance and of Prognostics and Health Management. Both those maintenance policies need to install appropriate sensors and data processes not only to assess the current health of their critical components but also their future health. These future health assessments, also called prognostics, produce the Remaining Useful Life of the components associated to imprecision quantifications. In the case of complex systems where components are numerous, the matter is to assess the health of whole systems from the prognostics of their components (the local prognostics). In this paper, we propose a generic function that assesses the future availability of complex systems from their local prognostics (the prognostics of their components) by using inferences rules. The results of this function can then be used as decision support indicators for planning productive and maintenance tasks. This function exploits a proposed extension for Object Oriented Bayesian Networks (OOBN) used to model the complex system in order to assess the probabilities of failure of components, functions and subsystems. The modeling of the complex system is required and it is presented as well as modeling transformations to tackle some OOBN limitations. Then, the computing inference rules used to define the future availability of complex systems are presented. The extension added to OOBN consists in indicating the components that should first be maintained to improve the availabilities of the functions and subsystems in order to provide a second kind of decision support indicators for maintenance. A fictitious multi-component system bringing together most of the structures encountered in complex systems is modeled and the results obtained from the application of the proposed generic function are presented as well as ways that production and maintenance planning can used the computed indicators. Then we show how the proposed generic prognostic function can be used to predict propagations of failures and their effects on the functioning of functions and subsystems.

Abstract: We introduce a new approach for multiscale 3Dsemantic scene completion from voxelized sparse 3D LiDAR scans. As opposed to the literature, we use a 2D UNet backbone with comprehensive multiscale skip connections to enhance feature flow, along with 3D segmentation heads. On the SemanticKITTI benchmark, our method performs on par on semantic completion and better on occupancy completion than all other published methods -- while being significantly lighter and faster. As such it provides a great performance/speed trade-off for mobile-robotics applications. The ablation studies demonstrate our method is robust to lower density inputs, and that it enables very high speed semantic completion at the coarsest level. Abstract: International audience; Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) provides significant traffic flow improvements when a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication link exists with the preceding vehicle , but it degrades to an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) when this communication link is no longer available. This degradation occurs even if the information from another V2V-equipped vehicle ahead (different to the preceding one) is still available. This paper presents a novel car-following control system-Advanced Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (ACACC)-that benefits from the existing communication with this vehicle ahead in the string, reducing inter-vehicle gap whereas keeping string stability. The proposed control structure provides a hybrid behaviour between two CACC controllers with different time gaps according to the string position of the vehicle with the V2V communication link available. An stable hybrid behavior between both controllers is ensured through the Youla-Kucera parameterization. Simulation and real experiments show the proper behaviour of the designed control algorithm and a good performance compared to existing ACC/CACC controllers.

Abstract: The R&D of Autonomous Transportation Systems (ATS) is hindered by the lack of industrial feedback and client's knowledge about technological possibilities. In addition, because of intellectual properties (IP) issues, technology consulting companies can't directly reuse developed functionalities with different clients. In this context, requirements reuse technics presents a good way to capitalize on their knowledge while avoiding IP issues. However, the literature review on requirements reuse processes doesn't propose methods to the application of reuse processes with little information about the system's operational context. In this paper, we present a semi-automated requirement reuse and recycle process for ATS R&D. The process helps designers’ copes with the lack of inputs from the clients. Requirements candidates are retrieved from a database using Natural Language Processing and traceability propagation. Abstract: International audience; This paper describes a database of electric waveforms that is available at the Centre de Données de la Physique des Plasmas (CDPP, http://cdpp.eu/). This database is specifically dedicated to waveforms of Langmuir/Z-mode waves. These waves occur in numerous kinetic processes involving electrons in space plasmas. Statistical analysis from a large data set of such waves is then of interest, e.g., to study the relaxation of high-velocity electron beams generated at interplanetary shock fronts, in current sheets and magnetic reconnection region, the transfer of energy between high and low frequencies, the generation of electromagnetic waves. The Langmuir waveforms were recorded by the Time Domain Sampler (TDS) of the WAVES radio instrument on board the STEREO mission. In this paper, we detail the criteria used to identify the Langmuir/Z-mode waves among the whole set of waveforms of the STEREO spacecraft. A database covering the November 2006 to August 2014 period is provided. It includes electric waveforms expressed in the normalized frame inline image with B and Vsw the local magnetic field and solar wind velocity vectors, and the local magnetic field in the variance frame, in an interval of ±1.5 min around the time of the Langmuir event. Quicklooks are also provided that display the three components of the electric waveforms together with the spectrum of E∥, together with the magnitude and components of the magnetic field in the 3 min interval, in the variance frame. Finally, the distribution of the Langmuir/Z-mode waves peak amplitude is also analyzed.

Abstract: Lidar has become an essential sensor for autonomous driving as it provides reliable depth estimation. Lidar is also the primary sensor used in building 3D maps which can be used even in the case of low-cost systems which do not use Lidar. Computation on Lidar point clouds is intensive as it requires processing of millions of points per second. Additionally there are many subsequent tasks such as clustering, detection, tracking and classification which makes real-time execution challenging. In this paper, we discuss real-time dynamic object detection algorithms which leverages previously mapped Lidar point clouds to reduce processing. The prior 3D maps provide a static background model and we formulate dynamic object detection as a background subtraction problem. Computation and modeling challenges in the mapping and online execution pipeline are described. We propose a rejection cascade architecture to subtract road regions and other 3D regions separately. Abstract: International audience; The French Air-Cobot project aims at improving preflight maintenance as well as providing a traceability of the performed checks. A collaborative mobile robot has been built in order to carry out those tasks. The robot is able to navigate autonomously around the aircraft and perform non-destructive testing thanks to several sensors. More precisely, in this paper we focus on how to obtain a correct position of the 3D scanner fixed on a scissor with respect to the aircraft. It acquires 3D data which is analyzed to process surface inspection. The functional safety of the scissor is based on automatic visual checking of some cues. The full process demonstrates the feasibility of integrating 3D sensor on a mobile platform in safe conditions.

Abstract: International audience; Perception is one of the most important tasks for safe navigation of autonomous mobile robots in outdoor environments that are dynamic and unknown. This paper presents a real time system for detection and classification of dynamic objects using a 2D laser range finder (2D LRF) and a moving camera mounted on the mobile robot. An occupancy grid based detection is implemented using 2D LRF and moving objects are iteratively extracted from the global occupancy grid. A visual classification system is developed using HOG features and AdaBoost as learning process. Dynamic objects detection and visual classification results are coupled to point moving camera on the specified target (specified by mission supervisor) and to identify it. Finally, real time experiments results on the mobile robot in two different scenarios are presented.

Abstract: International audience; Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) play a major role in the heliosphere and their contribution to the solar wind mass flux, already considered in the Skylab and Solwind eras with conflicting results, is re-examined in the light of 19 years (1996-2014) of SOHO observations with the Large Angle and Spectroscopic Coronagraph “LASCO-C2” for the CMEs and extended for the first time to all latitudes thanks to the whole-heliosphere data from the Solar Wind ANisotropies “SWAN” instrument supplemented by in-situ data aggregated in the OMNI database. First, several mass estimates reported in the ARTEMIS catalog of LASCO CMEs are compared with determinations based on the combined observations with the twin STEREO/SECCHI coronagraphs in order to ascertain their validity. A simple geometric model of the CMEs is introduced to generate Carrington maps of their mass flux and then to produce annualized synoptic maps. The Lyman-α SWAN data are inverted to similarly produce synoptic maps to be compared with those of the CME flux. The ratio of the annualized CME to solar wind mass flux is found to closely track the solar cycle over the heliosphere. In the near-ecliptic region and at latitudes up to ∼ 55o, this ratio was negligibly small during the solar minima of cycles 22/23 and 23/24 and rose to 6% and 5% respectively at the maximum of solar cycles 23 and 24. These maximum ratios increased at higher latitudes but this result is likely biased by the inherent limitation of determining the true latitude of CMEs.

It is equipped with distance sensors laser scans. Abstract: We report on a novel technique for measuring the solar radius during total solar eclipses that exploits light curves recorded just before and after second and third contacts. The measurements are performed by pre-programmed photometers that are deployed over the eclipse paths and are operated without supervision. The recorded light curves are compared to synthetic light curves calculated from high-accuracy ephemerides and lunar-limb profiles constructed from the topographic model of the Moon provided by the Kaguya lunar space mission. A minimization process between the two sets of curves yields the solar radius. Altogether, seventeen determinations have been obtained during the past four total eclipses with the following averages (at a wavelength of 540 nm and scaled to 1 AU): $959.94\pm0.02~\mbox{arcsec}$ on 11 July 2010, $960.02\pm0.04~\mbox{arcsec}$ on 13 November 2012, $959.99\pm0.09~\mbox{arcsec}$ on 3 November 2013, and $960.01\pm0.09~\mbox{arcsec}$ on 20 March 2015. Part of the differences between these four values may be attributed to weather conditions. Averaging the whole set of measurements yields a radius of $959.99\pm0.06~\mbox{arcsec}$ ( $696{,}246\pm45~\mbox{km}$ ), which agrees excellently well with the most recent data and supports an upward revision of the standard IAU value, as previously suggested.

31. Development of an innovative active flow control system for CROR powerplant noise reduction through pylon wake mitigation

Abstract: Given the increasingly stringent regulations governing the air transport sector, driven by environmental and economic concerns, efforts to reduce air traffic fuel consumption and to limit pollutant and noise emissions encourage both aircraft and powerplant manufacturers to develop innovative solutions for future aircrafts. In this context, Counter Rotating Open Rotor (CROR) propeller technologies are appearing as a promising alternative solution to Ultra High Bypass Ratio (UHBR) engines. However the promotion of this not yet fully mature technology, although it was initiated in the early 80’s, raises numerous issues and imposes to address significant scientific and technological challenges. Amongst these challenges, the interaction of the wake of the CROR engine pylon with the counter rotating blades, positioned downstream of the pylon (pusher configuration), promote strong total pressure fluctuations on the powerplant structure. The latter are responsible for both airframe noise and vibrations that penalize aircraft certification. ‘Erasing’ the pylon wake such as to recover a strictly uniform flow upstream of the rotating blades would suppress this major source of airframe noise and vibrations. It therefore appears as a promising flow control strategy for the certification of CROR propeller-equipped aircrafts. The current study is put forward in that context. It is part of the ACcTIOM project, a collaborative research project led in partnership with Airbus and Aéroconseil and funded by the European Commission through the Cleansky/SFWA (Smart Fixed Wing Aircraft) Demonstrator program. It first aims to design an active flow control system dedicated to the reduction of noise emission through the pylon wake mitigation. Second, it aims to develop an advanced experimental methodology, based on vibration-controlled stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (3C-PIV), able to be flight-operated and that will serve the validation of the above mentioned active flow control system when operated on the Flying Test Bench. In this paper we focus on the development and the validation of the active flow control system, to be integrated in the aft part of the CROR propeller pylon. This flow control system is based on a boundary layer scooping/blowing strategy. The optimization process of the flow control system, based on 2D and 3D RANS computations, has allowed designing the wind tunnel (WT) model and pre defining the flow control parameters - scooping and blowing mass flow rates- to apply such as to mitigate the pylon wake. By experimentally varying these parameters, and taking advantage of the WT experiment results, based on pressure coefficient distribution along the WT model profile, transverse profiles of total pressure at various streamwise and spanwise positions in the wake of the pylon and on 3C-PIV transverse-plane measurements at various streamwise positions, an exhaustive cartography of the flow control system efficiency was determined. It allows identifying nominal operating points, where the optimization criterion is satisfied. It also highlights the robustness of the embedded flow control system in mitigating the wake of the pylon.

Abstract: The rapid development of Mobile Internet and Smart Devices and advent of a new generation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) increase information about present driving conditions and make its prediction possible. Real time traffic information systems (TIS) like SYTADIN help in route to destination planning and traffic state prediction. Energy-optimal routing for electric vehicles creates novel algorithmic challenges where the computation complexity and the quality of information on traffic state are the main issues. This complexity is induced by the possible negative values of edge energy as well as the variability of route and vehicle variables which render the standard algorithms unsuitable. In this paper the authors present an Energy Optimal Real Time Navigation System (EORTNS), implemented on Samsung Galaxy Tab, capable of calculating the route to destination based on information flow obtained from SYTADIN. As an application example the authors propose a real time energy management for a Hybrid Electrical Vehicle (HEV) composed of batteries and Super-Capacitors (SC). The EORTNS is not only capable of energy optimal route to destination calculation with respect to traffic state but also operates the On-Board power splitting between batteries and Super-Capacitors.

Abstract: International audience; One the goals of the Europlanet/IDIS project is the prototyping a Planetary Sciences Virtual Observatory (VO). Planetary sciences are covering several science thematics: atmospheres, surfaces, interiors, small bodies, orbital parameters, in situ exploration, plasma (waves, particle and fields), radio astronomy... They also include a large variety of data types: images, spectra, times series, movies, dynamic spectra, profiles, maps... and an even larger variety of physical parameters, including remote data, in-situ data, models, lab experiments, field analogs. The main challenge is thus to be able to homogeneously describe all the planetary science resources (dataset, files, services...). The skeleton of a such a description is the data model. The Planetary Science Resource Data Model (PSRDM) has been built using IVOA (International Virtual Observatory Alliance). We describe the content of Datasets and Granules (i.e., product, file, or the smallest granularity distributed by the service), not the access to the data. This description includes: Resource identification, Targets, Instruments (including hosting facility), Axis (including bounds, resolution, sampling, unit), Physical parameter (including UCD, unit).

Abstract: International audience; Langmuir waves are ubiquitous in the planetary environments and the interplanetary medium. These electrostatic waves occur in the range 10-30 kHz in the solar wind. They are of interest as they are linked to the electron dynamics. Moreover, they are at the origin of the most intense electromagnetic radio waves related to solar flare and interplanetary shocks. The waveform analyzers of the WAVES instrument onboard of STEREO spacecraft have been observing the interplanetary medium since more than seven years. A complete database of the observed Langmuir waves is accessible to the community from the CDPP website (http://cdpp.eu/). We present here the details of the available information, as well as some analysis on different heliophysical contexts (interplanetary medium, shocks in particular).

36. The use of Bayesian Belief Networks (BBNs) to probe deeper into railway safety management systems - Two studies from Great Britain and Italy.

Abstract: The importance of Safety Management Systems (SMS) to the railway industry is underlined by the fact that all organisations operating on UK railways are required by law to have one. Analysing SMSs can provide a reliable systemic tool to identify hazards and weaknesses within complex systems like the railway, making it possible to significantly increase safety, reducing the odds of near misses and accidents. However, there is little empirical research evidence to determine the impact on safety of a structured SMS. The current paper describes two studies which use Bayesian Belief Networks (BBN) to conceptualise SMSs and their impact on front-line performance. The paper presents the usefulness of BBNs to compare complex systems and reconcile cultural differences within the railway industry, identifying factors that are deemed vital within Italy and Britain. The two studies allowed us to identify the most influential factors within a SMS and how they interact with each other, as well as the strength of the identified relationships. A BBN is particularly useful in estimating how changing some of the node states (e.g., by making safety leadership present) affected the other factors. 37. Relating the rate of growth of metal nanoparticles to cluster size distribution in electroless deposition.

Abstract: Electroless deposition on patterned silicon substrates enables the formation of metal nanomaterials with tight control over their size and shape. In the technique, metal ions are transported by diffusion from a solution to the active sites of an autocatalytic substrate where they are reduced as metals upon contact. Here, using diffusion limited aggregation models and numerical simulations, we derived relationships that correlate the cluster size distribution to the total mass of deposited particles. We found that the ratio ξ between the rates of growth of two different metals depends on the ratio γ between the rates of growth of clusters formed by those metals through the linearity law ξ = 14( γ - 1). We then validated the model using experiments.
