Empirical standard weight equations and length–weight and length–length relationships were estimated for Barbus pergamonensis, Capoeta bergamae, and Ladigesocypris irideus, three endemic cyprinid species of Turkey that are still not widely studied. To the best knowledge of the authors, empirical standard weight equations for the three species and L–W parameters for L. irideus are given here for the first time. In this study, length and weight data for B. pergamonensis, C. bergamae, and L. irideus were collected throughout the watercourses of Muğla Province and were used to develop species-specific Ws equations. The results were for B. pergamonensis (total length [TL] range: 6–22 cm) log10W s= –5.713 + 3.718 log10TL – 0.166 (log10TL)2 , for C. bergamae (TL range: 8–29 cm) log10W s= –5.224 + 3.311 log10TL – 0.083 (log10TL)2, and for L. irideus (TL range: 6–10 cm) log10W s= –13.298 + 12.116 log10TL – 2.471 (log10TL)2. This study also reported new maximum TLs for the three species, together with species-specific length–weight and length–length equations.

Son yıllarda endemik türlerin devamlılıkları ile ilgili endişeler giderek artmaktadır. Endemizm biyoçeşitlilik mirasının devamının temel yapı taşlarından birisidir. Ancak ülkemiz içsularında yer alan birçok endemik tatlısu balıklarının temel biyo-ekolojik özellikleri ve habitat tercihleri üzerine bilgilerimiz oldukça kısıtlıdır. Bu bağlamda Dalaman'ın Tersakan Deresi'nde bulunan Capoeta bergamae (Karaman, 1969) popülasyonu üzerine bir yıllık bir çalışma yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı türün büyüme, üreme gibi bazı biyoekolojik özellikleri ve habitat tercihlerini ortaya koymaktır. Yapılan çalışmalar sonucunda Capoeta bergamae'nin hayat döngüsünün 8 yıl olduğu saptanmıştır. Dişi bireylerin cinsi olgunluğa 5 yaşında ve 234 mm boy düzeyinde eriştiği, erkeklerin ise 4 yaşında ve 194 mm iken eriştiği bulunmuştur. Üreme dönemi olarak ise bahar aylarını tercih ettiği ve 3 aylık bir dönem boyunca üreme faaliyetinin devam ettiği tespit edilmiştir. Olgun bir dişi bireyin ortalama yumurta çapı değerinin 1,226 mm olduğu ve yine ortalama olarak bir dişinin toplamda 7833 adet yumurta ürettiği analiz edilmiştir. İlkbaharda gölgelik alanları, yazın suyun genellikle bulanık olduğu bölgelerini, sonbaharda örten bitki oranının yüksek aynı zamanda suyun bulanık olduğu yerleri, kışın da örten bitki oranının sık görüldüğü yerler habitat tercihlerini oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmayla endemik Capoeta cf. bergamae türünün yönetimi ve korunması ile ilgili bazı önemli temel biyolojik ve habitat bilgileri elde edilmiştir ve bu bilgilerin ileriki çalışmalara ışık tutacağı düşünülmektedir. There have been increasing concerns about endemic species in recent years. Endemism is one of the major basic piece of continuing legacy of biodiversity. However, our knowledge on basic bio-ecological features and habitat preferences of many endemic freshwater fish species in Turkish inlands is highly limited. In this context it was conducted a yearlong study on Capoeta bergamae (Karaman, 1969) population, which occurs in Tersakan Stream in Dalaman. The aim of present study is to reveal some bioecological features of C. cf. bergamae such as growth, reproduction and habitat preferences. As a result of the analyses, life span of C. cf. bergamae was found to be 8 years. It was estimated that female individuals reached maturity at 5th age and 234 mm length while male individuals were at 4th age and 194 mm length. As reproduction period, C. cf. bergamae spawn spring season and reproductive activity continues during 3 months. It was found that mean egg diameter of a mature female individual is 1.226 mm and it produces 7833 eggs in total. Shady areas in spring, generally blurry waters in summer, high vegetation cover and blurry waters in autumn and high vegetation cover in winter were the habitat preferences. With this study, some major basic biologic and habitat information for management and conservation of endemic C. cf. bergamae were obtained and it is considered that this knowledge might be important for the future work. 71

1st International Fisheries Symposium - MAR 24-27, 2013 - Girne, CYPRUS WOS: 000380019500028 To aid in species' conservation, the aim of this study was to provide initial findings on age, growth and reproduction of an endemic species, Aegean chub Squalius fellowesii (Gunther, 1868) populations from streams in the Aegean region of Mugla Province, Turkey. The species is relatively short-lived (maximum 6 years), attaining a size of about 200 mm total length with a rapid growth to first maturity (approximate to 60 mm TL), and relatively little growth thereafter. The male: female ratio was 1.0 : 0.6, males significantly outnumbering females in the majority of the streams. General condition values of individual fish varied between 2.9 and 3.4. Sexual maturity was usually achieved later and at larger sizes in females than in males. Sexual maturation in most populations was at the age of 2 years in females and 1 year in males. The species spawns between early April and late May. Mean absolute and relative fecundity were about 4440 eggs and 57 eggs.g(-1), respectively. Mean egg diameter was 1.00 +/- 0.03 mm, ranging from 0.70 to 1.20 mm. Suggestions for the conservation of Aegean chub are discussed.
