Patronage of public libraries in Nigeria has declined over the years and is in urgent need of revitalization. Outreach efforts would revitalize the interest of university students in the patronage of public libraries in Nigeria because they need access to resources, especially when on holidays. The study investigates the outreach programs used to revitalize the patronage of public libraries in Nigeria. A descriptive survey research design was utilized in the study. The population comprised a sample of 3,457 Adeleke University undergraduates. Descriptive statistics were employed to analyze the data. The findings revealed that public libraries in Nigeria are underutilized by Adeleke University undergraduate students. This low patronage may be ascribed to poor outreach efforts, outdated technology, distance, inadequate facilities, and a poor road network. Outreach programs such as developing and producing library mobile applications, providing free internet access, virtual reality availability, hosting health talks, free streaming services, and making kinetic bikes available to charge phones can be effective in revitalizing public library patronage. As a result, the study suggests that outreach efforts be included in public library initiatives to engage younger users. This includes updating the public library's aging technology, notably by incorporating mobile applications into its operations.

This study examined the influence of physical work environment on the research productivity of librarians in universities in southwestern Nigeria. The author surveyed a population of 312 librarians from university libraries in the region. The results indicated that the librarians' research productivity was significantly influenced by their surroundings at work. The author therefore recommends continued efforts to maintain and improve that the fitness of librarians' workplaces.

This study aimed to explore the technology usage of off-campus undergraduate students for library social media engagement. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 245 off-campus university students at Adeleke University. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square analysis. The findings suggest that off-campus undergraduate students are ready for library social media engagement, with Facebook being the most commonly used platform. However, among the off-campus students, the study found that working students tend to engage less frequently with the library social media than non-working students. The major hindrance to off-campus students' engagement with the library's social media is their busy schedule, followed by a lack of time. The study recommends that libraries prioritize Facebook more as a social media platform for engaging with off-campus undergraduate students.

This study sought to examine the relationship between virtual learning and library usage among students in Adeleke University. A total enumeration technique was adopted for sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Of the 903 participants surveyed, 75.3% always attended the virtual lecture. 30.7% use the library two or three times a week, while 25.4% use the library once a week. Virtual learning has a positive, statistically significant relationship with library usage (r = 0.224, P < 0.05), library services usage (r = 0.201, P < 0.05) and level of satisfaction (r = 0.255, P < 0.05). The study concluded that virtual learning is essential for Adeleke University students' use of the library and its services, since technology serve as a tool that bridges geographical boundaries, thereby providing easy accessibility to resources.

The study investigated the willingness of students to remotely tune into podcast programmes aired by libraries and the associated challenges. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The sample included 245 Adeleke University undergraduates. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings indicated that most patrons rarely use podcasts, with Spotify being the most popular among students. Students indicated that the campus news and information programme, library seminars, and user education would be their top choices for frequent listening. Students may be discouraged from utilizing library podcast programmes due to issues with internet access, a lack of finances to obtain data, and a time constraint. The study concluded that podcasts had potential for distant learners and that students would be ready to tune into podcast programmes aired by libraries, and therefore recommended that libraries in Nigeria begin to employ podcasts in airing library programmes and marketing library services.

AbstractThis study explored user perspectives on library design elements, amenities, and services that can potentially enhance the reading experience. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire with 537 students. The majority of respondents (86.8%) reported enjoying reading in library environments. Regarding design aspects, having an integrated layout with shelves, chairs and tables cohesively arranged in the reading room was most appealing. Users also favored the presence of other readers and collaborative table designs. Group-study rooms were viewed positively, with 51.2% strongly liking the option to use them and perceiving benefits for learning. While opinions were divided on introducing food services, most supported adding new technologies like 3D printers, art galleries, and museum exhibits. Chi-square analysis revealed significant associations between enjoying library reading and preferences for shared reading spaces with other users (p = 0.024) and group-study rooms. In conclusion, fostering a sense of community, scholarly exchange, and integrated space conducive to focused reading emerged as key factors for enhancing the reading experience in libraries. AbstractThis study aimed to investigate the challenges faced by working students in patronizing library services in Nigeria and to propose tailored solutions to enhance their patronage. A descriptive survey research design was used to collect data from 110 working undergraduate students, which was then analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings showed that busy job schedules, limited time on campus, and the fact that they mainly come to the campus for lectures are the primary reasons why working students rarely patronize the library. However, most of them expressed the need for library access tailored to their unique needs, which includes remote or distance approach. The preferred methods for accessing library services among working students include selective dissemination of e-books to their emails and having librarians available on a dedicated WhatsApp number. Additionally, they indicated openness to the idea of using chatbots to respond to their library requests. The study concluded that the use of technology such as email, instant messenger, and chatbots can address the challenges hindering library patronage by working students. This descriptive survey research design aimed to explore gender differences in the impact of social media distractions during reading in the library among undergraduate students. The study included a total of 373 participants who were regular library users and had access to social media platforms. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data, and the findings indicated that social media, particularly messaging on WhatsApp, was the most distracting activity for students in the library. Males reported more distraction than females for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Telegram. Reading and responding to social media messages was the most common social media activity among students in the library. The majority of participants perceived social media to harm their reading habits, with a higher number of females perceiving social media as harming their reading habits compared to males. The study recommends that libraries and educational institutions develop clear policies and guidelines on the use of social media in libraries, provide resources aimed at helping students manage social media distraction and improve their reading habits, and offer training to staff members on how to identify and address social media distractions among students. The study examined the influence of social media use on research output and visibility of librarians in university libraries in southwestern, Nigeria. A descriptive survey research approach was utilised in the study. The population consisted of 363 librarians from all of southwestern Nigeria's university libraries. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that librarians produce a high level of research output but their research visibility is low. The use of social media significantly positively influenced the research output and visibility of librarians. The study concluded that the use of social media can improve librarians' research output and visibility, and thus recommends that more effort be made to expand the use of social media such as Yahoo, ResearchGate, Zotero, ORCID and LinkedIn, as well as greater awareness of social bookmarking tools such as Bibsonomy. This study explores the role of academic libraries in shaping peer pressure among Nigerian undergraduate students. Using a cross-sectional research design, data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Of the 537 students surveyed, the findings reveal that male students are more likely than female students to feel pressured to engage in negative behaviors like dressing inappropriately, engaging in sexual activity, and gambling. However, libraries can mitigate this by providing online books, while physical books and library personnel can influence positive peer pressure. Close friends were found to exert greater negative peer pressure than classmates or random students. The study concludes that academic libraries play significant role in shaping peer pressure among undergraduate students in Nigeria. Therefore, it is recommended that academic libraries should focus on providing a diverse range of reading materials, fostering a supportive environment for literacy and reading conversations, and empowering students to select their reading material. This study examined the influence of information-seeking behavior on library services used by the disabled in Federal universities in South-west, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population comprises 302 disabled students in Federal universities in South-west, Nigeria. Total enumeration technique was used. A questionnaire was used for data collection. The instrument was tested for reliability, yielding Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranging from 0.74 to 0.75. Descriptive and Inferential Statistics were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that advisory, carrel and consultancy services were the most available services. The most used services were user education services and consultancy services. The respondents' information-seeking behavior mostly involves seeking information on health and retrieving information from the e-library. The study concluded that information-seeking behavior influenced the use of library services of disabled students. The study recommended that library management must provide more resources on healthrelated subjects, especially in electronic form. Finally, the management should improve their current awareness services tailored to the needs of disabled students and library staff should be trained on how to serve every library user irrespective of their challenges. The study sought to examine the influence of leadership styles and staff motivation on job satisfaction in private university libraries in Osun State, Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that leadership styles and Staff motivation are predictors of job satisfaction of library staff. There was a high level of job satisfaction among library personnel due to the democratic leadership styles that were predominant. Most of the library staff were highly motivated with a higher level of intrinsic motivation than extrinsic motivation. The study concludes that leadership styles and Staff motivation are predictors of job satisfaction of library staff. Public libraries are increasingly becoming affected by invasive and disruptive technology, changing customer requirements, and other information sources that provide comparable library services. The dilemma of public libraries is clear, as seen by falling government financing and patronage. In order to maintain their position in the face of intense competition, they must react promptly. Librarians will not be able to properly prepare for the future or position themselves unless they strengthen their stance in the information competition by cooperating and competing simultaneously. To remain relevant, librarians must re-strategize and consider how to deliver services using smart technologies. The study investigated whether students would prefer mobile instant messaging versus in-person enquiries for reference queries post-COVID-19. A descriptive survey research design was utilized in the study. The population consisted of 245 Adeleke University undergraduates that partook in library orientation programme. A descriptive statistic was employed to analyze the data. Findings indicated that the most preferred mobile instant messaging for reference queries by students are WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, default text messenger and Facebook Messenger. However, the most significant problem of using mobile instant messaging for reference queries were discovered to be internet access issues. The study concluded that Adeleke University undergraduate students prefer to utilize mobile instant messaging to make reference queries rather than in-person reference queries post-COVID-19, hence reference librarians should enhance their use of mobile instant messaging to receive reference queries. Intrusive and disruptive technologies have given rise to information explosion, which is increasingly influencing traditional libraries. The predicament of traditional libraries is evident, based on the decreasing usage. In the face of this predicament, to maintain their position, librarians answer has to be swift. Librarians cannot plan or position themselves effectively until they grasp the existence of big data and manage it. To remain relevant, traditional libraries must reshape their services using big data and smart technologies. The article explores the practical application of big data to traditional libraries.
