Abstract

We report an improved measurement of D0–D‾0 mixing and a search for CP violation in D0 decays to CP-even final states K+K− and π+π−. The measurement is based on the final Belle data sample of 976 fb−1. The results are yCP=(1.11±0.22±0.09)% and AΓ=(−0.03±0.20±0.07)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract

The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,143 new measurements from 709 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 120 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including a new review on Machine Learning, and one on Spectroscopy of Light Meson Resonances. The Review is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete Review (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group (pdg.lbl.gov) and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the PDG Book. A Particle Physics Booklet with the Summary Tables and essential tables, figures, and equations from selected review articles is available in print, as a web version optimized for use on phones, and as an Android app.

Abstract

The inclusive production cross sections of the strange vector mesons K*0, K*0bar, and phi have been measured in interactions of 920 GeV protons with C, Ti, and W targets with the HERA-B detector at the HERA storage ring. Differential cross sections as a function of rapidity and transverse momentum have been measured in the central rapidity region and for transverse momenta up to pT=3.5 GeV/c. The atomic number dependence is parametrised as sigma(pA) = sigma(pN)*A**alpha, where sigma(pN) is the proton-nucleon cross section. Within the phase space accessible, alpha(K*0) = 0.86+/-0.03, alpha(K*0bar) = 0.87+/-0.03, and alpha(phi) = 0.96+/-0.02. The total proton-nucleon cross sections, determined by extrapolating the differential measurements to full phase space, are sigma(pN->K*0) = 5.06+/-0.54 mb, sigma(pN->K*0bar) = 4.02+/-0.45 mb, and sigma(pN->phi) = 1.17+/-0.11 mb. The Cronin effect is observed for the first time for vector mesons containing strange quarks; compared to the measurements of Cronin et al. for K+- mesons, the measured values of alpha for phi mesons coincide with those of K- mesons for all transverse momenta, while the enhancement for K*0 / K*0bar mesons is smaller., Comment: 19 pages, 17 figures, submitted to Eur Phys J C

Abstract

We report on a search for the lepton flavor violating τ−→μ−γ and τ−→e−γ decays based on 535 fb−1 of data accumulated at the Belle experiment. No signal is found and we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching ratios B(τ−→μ−γ)

Abstract

We report a high-statistics measurement of the relative branching fraction Br(D0 --> pi+pi-pi0)/Br(D0 --> K-pi+pi0). A 357 inverse fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider was used for the analysis. The relative branching fraction Br(D0 --> pi+pi-pi0)/Br(D0 --> K-pi+pi0) is determined with an accuracy comparable to the latest world average value.

Abstract

We report measurements of the charmless semileptonic decays B0 → π- / ρ- l+ ν and B+ → π0 / ρ0 l+ ν, based on a sample of 2.75 × 108B over(B, ) events collected at the Υ{hooked} (4 S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ e- asymmetric collider. In this analysis, the accompanying B meson is reconstructed in the semileptonic mode B → D(*) l ν, enabling detection of the signal modes with high purity. We measure the branching fractions B (B0 → π- l+ ν) = (1.38 ± 0.19 ± 0.14 ± 0.03) × 10-4, B (B0 → ρ- l+ ν) = (2.17 ± 0.54 ± 0.31 ± 0.08) × 10-4, B (B+ → π0 l+ ν) = (0.77 ± 0.14 ± 0.08 ± 0.00) × 10-4 and B (B+ → ρ0 l+ ν) = (1.33 ± 0.23 ± 0.17 ± 0.05) × 10-4, where the errors are statistical, experimental systematic, and systematic due to form factor uncertainties, respectively. For each mode we also present the partial branching fractions in three q2 intervals: q2 < 8, 8 ≤ q2 < 16, and q2 ≥ 16 GeV2 / c2. From our partial branching fractions for B → π l ν and recent results for the form factor from unquenched Lattice QCD calculations, we obtain values of the CKM matrix element | Vu b |. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

We have searched for lepton-flavor-violating $\tau$ decays with a pseudoscalar meson ($\eta$, $\eta'$ {and} $\pi^0$) using a data sample of 401 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. No evidence for these decays is found and we set the following upper limits on the branching fractions: ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\eta) < 9.2\times 10^{-8}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\eta) < 6.5\times 10^{-8}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\eta') < 1.6\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\eta') < 1.3\times 10^{-7}$, ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to e^-\pi^0) < 8.0\times 10^{-8}$ and ${\cal{B}}(\tau^-\to \mu^-\pi^0) < 1.2\times 10^{-7}$ at the 90% confidence level. These results improve our previously published upper limits by factors from 2.3 to 6.3.

Abstract

A measurement of the polarization of Λ and Λ ¯ baryons produced in pC and pW collisions at s = 41.6 GeV has been performed with the HERA-B spectrometer. The measurements cover the kinematic range of 0.6 GeV / c p ⊥ 1.2 GeV / c in transverse momentum and − 0.15 x F 0.01 in Feynman-x. The polarization results from the two different targets agree within the statistical error. In the combined data set, the largest deviation from zero, + 0.054 ± 0.029 , is measured for x F ≲ − 0.07 . Zero polarization is expected at x F = 0 in the absence of nuclear effects. The polarization results for the Λ agree with a parametrization of previous measurements which were performed at positive x F values, where the Λ polarization is negative. Results of Λ ¯ polarization measurements are consistent with zero.

We set an upper limit of 2.5% at the 90% C.L. on the ratio of the Θ(1540)+ to Λ(1520) inclusive production cross sections. Abstract

We present measurements of the branching fraction, the polarization parameters and CP-violating asymmetries in B0→D*+D *- decays using a 140 fb-1 data sample collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. We obtain B(B0→D*+D*-)=[0. 81±0.08(stat)±0.11(syst)]×10-3, R⊥=0.19±0. 08(stat)±0.01(syst), R0=0.57±0.08(stat)±0.02(syst), S=-0.75±0.56(stat)±0.12(syst) and A=-0.26±0.26(stat) ±0.06(syst). Consistency with Standard Model expectations is also discussed.

The Belle and BaBar experiments have measured branching fractions and CP asymmetries in the charmless decay modes B 0 → π + π − , B 0 → ρ ± π ∓ , and B 0 → ρ + ρ − . From these measurements, contraints upon the CKM angle ϕ 2 can be obtained. These constraints consistently indicate that ϕ 2 is around 100°.

Abstract

We have searched for neutrinoless τ lepton decays into three charged leptons using an 87.1fb-1 data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. Since the number of signal candidate events is compatible with that expected from the background, we set 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (1.9-3.5)×10-7 for various decay modes τ -→l-l+l- where l represents e or μ. © 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract

We present the results of a five-dimensional resonant amplitude analysis of the $\Lambda_c^+{\to}pK^{-}\pi^{+}$ system based on $946\pm 38$ reconstructed decays. These data were produced in 500 GeV/$c$ $\pi^-$-N interactions by Fermilab experiment E791. We report measurements of the amplitudes for $\Lambda_c^+$ decay into nonresonant $pK^-\pi^+$ and to $p\bar{K}^{*0}(890)$, $\Delta^{++}(1232)K^-$, and $\Lambda(1520)\pi^+$ and we comment on other possible resonant enhancements. This is the first complete amplitude analysis of the $\Lambda_c^{+}{\to}pK^{-}\pi^{+}$ system. We find that $(54.8\pm5.5\pm3.5)$% of the decays are nonresonant, $(19.5\pm2.6\pm1.8)$% of the decays are via the $\bar{K}^{*0}$ resonance, $(18.0\pm2.9\pm2.9)$% of the decays are via the $\Delta^{++}$ resonance, and $(7.7\pm1.8\pm1.1)$% of the decays are via the $\Lambda(1520)$ resonance. We find evidence for an increasingly negative polarization of the $\Lambda_c^+$ baryons as a function of $p_T^2$, in agreement with a recent model\cite{dha} and with a related measurement\cite{jez}.

Abstract

We have measured the form factor ratios r_V = V(0)/A_1(0) and r_2 = A_2(0)/A_1(0) for the decay D_s^+ -> phi ell^+ nu_ell, phi -> K^+ K^-, using data from charm hadroproduction experiment E791 at Fermilab. Results are based on 144 signal and 22 background events in the electron channel and 127 signal and 34 background events in the muon channel. We combine the measurements from both lepton channels to obtain r_V = 2.27 +- 0.35 +- 0.22 and r_2 = 1.57 +- 0.25 +- 0.19.

Abstract

We report the results of a precise measurement of the Ds meson lifetime based on 1662 +/- 56 fully reconstructed Ds -> phi pi decays, from the charm hadroproduction experiment E791 at Fermilab. Using an unbinned maximum likelihood fit, we measure the Ds lifetime to be 0.518 +/- 0.014 +/- 0.007 ps. The ratio of the measured Ds lifetime to the world average D0 lifetime is 1.25 +/- 0.04. This result differs from unity by six standard deviations, indicating significantly different lifetimes for the Ds and the D0., 12 pages, 3 figures, 2 table. LaTeX

Using the large hadroproduced charm sample collected in experiment E791 at Fermilab, we have measured ratios of branching fractions for the two-body singly-Cabibbo-suppressed charged decays of the D0: (D0 -> KK)/(D0 -> Kpi) = 0.109 +- 0.003 +- 0.003, (D0 -> pipi)/(D0 -> Kpi) = 0.040 +- 0.002 +- 0.003, and (D0 -> KK)/(D0 -> pipi) = 2.75 +- 0.15 +- 0.16. We have looked for differences in the decay rates of D0 and D0bar to the CP eigenstates K+K- and pi+pi-, and have measured the CP asymmetry parameters A_CP(K+K-) = -0.010 +- 0.049 +- 0.012 and A_CP(pi+pi-) = -0.049 +- 0.078 +- 0.030, both consistent with zero., Comment: 10 Postscript pages, including 2 figures. Abstract

Using data from Fermilab fixed-target experiment E791, we measure the branching ratio for D 0 → K − K + π − π + and its resonant components. We find Γ(D 0 →K − K + π − π + ) Γ(D 0 →K − π + π − π + ) =(3.13±0.37±0.36) %. A coherent amplitude analysis is used to estimate the resonant components. We measure the ratios Γ(D 0 →f) Γ(D 0 →K − π + π − π + ) to be (2.0±0.9±0.8)% for f = φρ 0 , (0.9±0.4±0.5)% for f = φπ + π − , f=K ∗0 (892) K ∗0 (892) , and f= K ∗0 (892)K + π − or K ∗0 (892)K − π + .

Abstract

We present measurements of the production of Ds− mesons relative to Ds+ mesons as functions of xF and of pt2 for a sample of 2445 Ds decays to φπ. The Ds mesons were produced in Fermilab experiment E791 with 500 GeV/c π− mesons incident on one platinum and four carbon foil targets. The acceptance-corrected integrated asymmetry in the xF range −0.1 to 0.5 for Ds± mesons is 0.032 ± 0.022 ± 0.022, consistent with no net asymmetry. We compare the results as functions of xF and pt2 to predictions and to the large production asymmetry observed for D± mesons in the same experiment. These comparisons support the hypothesis that production asymmetries come from the fragmentation process and not from the charm quark production itself.

Abstract

We report the observation of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D + → K + π − π + in data from Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment E791. With a signal of 59 ± 13 events we measured the ratio of the branching fraction for this mode to that of the Cabibbo-favored decay D + → K − π + π + to be B (D + → K + π − π + ) / B ( D + → K − π + π + ) = (7.7 ± 1.7 ± 0.8) × 10 −3 . A Dalitz plot analysis was performed to search for resonant structures.

Abstract

We study the charge correlations between charm mesons produced in 500 GeV pi- - N interactions and the charged pions produced closest to them in phase space. With 110,000 fully reconstructed D mesons from experiment E791 at Fermilab, the correlations are studied as functions of the Dpi - D mass difference and of Feynman x. We observe significant correlations which appear to originate from a combination of sources including fragmentation dynamics, resonant decays, and charge of the beam., Comment: 12 pages and 2 figures

Abstract

We report a measurement of the branching ratio B(D+-->rho^0 l nu)/ B(D+-->K*0 l nu) from the Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment E791. Based on signals of 49+-17 events in the D+--> rho^0 e nu mode and 54+-18 events in the D+--> rho^0 mu nu mode, we measure B(D+-->rho^0 e nu)/B(D+-->K*0 e nu) = 0.045+-0.014+-0.009, and B(D+-->rho^0 mu nu)/B(D+-->K*0 mu nu) = 0.051+-0.015+-0.009. Combining the results from both the electronic and muonic modes, we obtain B(D+-->rho^0 l nu)/B(D+-->K*0 l nu) = 0.047+-0.013. This result is compared to theoretical predictions.

Abstract

From a sample of 2722 ± 78 Λc+ decaying to the pK−π+ final state, we have observed, in the hadroproduction experiment E791 at Fermilab, 143 ± 20 Σc0 and 122 ± 18 Σc++ through their decays to Λc+π±. The mass difference M(Σc0) − M(Λc+) is measured to be (167.38 ± 0.29 ± 0.15) MeV; for M(Σc++) − M(Λc+), we find (167.76 ± 0.29 ± 0.15) MeV. The rate of Λc+ production from decays of the Σc triplet is (22 ± 2 ± 3) % of the total Λc+ production assuming equal rate of production from all three, as measured for Σc0 and Σc++. We do not observe a statistically significant Σc baryon-antibaryon production asymmetry. The xF and pt2 spectra of Λc+ from Σc decays are observed to be similar to those for all Λc+'s produced.

Abstract

A questionnaire was mailed to 127 psychiatrists and psychologists from the USA, Canada, and other countries, who had published articles on panic disorder (PD) in the past five years. The questionnaire obtained information on (a) demographics and professional activities related to panic disorder, and (b) attitudes toward DSM III-R criteria/features of PD. Questionnaires were returned by 50% of the psychiatrists and 58% of the psychologists. The results of the survey showed that most members of both groups are engaged in research on panic disorder and spend 38.5% of their professional time treating panic disorder. Although the majority of respondents in both groups felt that the features and symptoms of PD described in DSM III-R were adequate, approximately 40% of both groups felt that there were important features/symptoms that should be included or clarified. The majority of respondents felt that the current criteria are inadequate for differential diagnoses, and that many of the required symptoms are not necessary for diagnosis. Possible changes in the criteria are discussed.

Abstract

We report the results of a search for flavor-changing neutral current, lepton-flavor violating, and lepton-number violating decays of D+, Ds, and D0 mesons (and their antiparticles) into modes containing muons and electrons. Using data from Fermilab charm hadroproduction experiment E791, we examine the pi,l,l and K,l,l decay modes of D+ and Ds and the l+l- decay modes of D0. No evidence for any of these decays is found. Therefore, we present branching-fraction upper limits at 90% confidence level for the 24 decay modes examined. Abstract

The textures that develop in a 5182 aluminum alloy as a result of monotonic high-temperature compression have been investigated. The authors found that the deformation texture was a function of temperature. For compressive deformation at 300 C and below the material formed the classic (101) deformation texture, while the material develops a texture that is a combination of the classical uniaxial compression deformation texture, (101), and static recrystallization texture, (001), as a result of the deformation alone when the deformation temperature was at and above 400 C. The investigation has focused on determining the mechanism responsible for the development of this unusual progression of deformation textures. In addition the authors have performed orientation imaging microscopy (OIM) to identify the shapes of grains with particular orientations and grain-to-grain orientation relationships. The conclusions are summarized as follows: The texture development is not a result of static processes, i.e. static recrystallization at the various hold times altered neither the textures nor the constitutive behavior. Simulation using a crystal plasticity model indicates that the combination of a cube component prevalent in the original texture, slip activity on 011 planes, and increased rate sensitivity leads to a combined (001) and (101) texture. Finally, the microscopic OIM results are consistent with these observations.

32. Creep of a fine-grained, fully-lamellar, two-phase TiAl alloy at 760{degree}C

Abstract

Creep of a TiAl alloy, having a composition of Ti-47Al-2Cr-2Nb (in atom %) and a fine-grained, fully-lamellar structure, was carried out at 760 C and stresses between 69--723 MPa. It was found that, in addition to having good room temperature properties, the alloy exhibits higher creep resistance than other TiAl alloys with a similar composition. Both the creep data and microstructures of the alloy suggest that there exists a change in deformation mechanism from a glide-controlled process at high stresses to a recovery-controlled process at low stresses. Also, microstructural evidence indicates that the rate-controlling recovery mechanism is the climb of dislocation segments pinned by ledges at {gamma}/{alpha}{sub 2} interfacial boundaries.

Abstract

In heartworm-infected dogs, circulating filarial factors appear to be responsible for the seasonal depression of endothelium-dependent responses seen in the in vivo femoral artery. The effect of heartworm infection on vascular responses of the femoral artery in vitro, when the vessel is not constantly exposed to circulating factors, is unknown. Experiments were designed to test the hypothesis that in vivo exposure to circulating filarial factors leads to changes in the magnitude and mechanism of endothelium-dependent relaxation that are demonstrable in vitro. Rings of femoral artery from heartworm-infected and noninfected control dogs were suspended in muscle baths, and dose-response relationships to endothelium-dependent (methacholine) and -independent (sodium nitroprusside) vasodilators were done. To determine the mechanism of relaxation, dose-response relationships were also done in the presence of an inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (L-NAME), an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase (methylene blue), or an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (mefenamic acid). Heartworm infection did not depress endothelium-dependent relaxation of the femoral artery in vitro. Furthermore, the mechanism of relaxation in heartworm and control femoral artery is identical. These data suggest that the effect of circulating filarial factors that alter the magnitude and mechanism of relaxation in systemic vessels in heartworm-infected dogs rapidly disappears in their absence. This results has important bearing on the dynamics of heartworm-induced pathophysiological changes during infection and could influence the nature and chronology of responses to therapy.

Abstract

Grain boundary network engineering is an emerging field that encompasses the concept that modifications to conventional thermomechanical processing can result in improved properties through the disruption of the random grain boundary network. Various researchers have reported a correlation between the grain boundary character distribution (defined as the fractions of special and random grain boundaries) and dramatic improvements in properties such as corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, creep, etc. While much early work in the field emphasized property improvements, the opportunity now exists to elucidate the underlying materials science of grain boundary network engineering. Recent investigations at LLNL have coupled automated electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) to elucidate these fundamental mechanisms. This investigation provides evidence that grain boundary network engineering and the formation of annealing twins disrupt the connectivity of the random grain boundary network and is likely responsible for the experimentally observed improvement in properties. This work illustrates that coupling of automated EBSD with other microstructural probes such as TEM and AFM provides data of greater value than any single technique in isolation. The coupled techniques have been applied to aid in understanding the underlying mechanisms of grain boundary network engineering and the corrosion properties of individual boundaries.

Abstract

Magnetic viscosity experiments were performed on Co-25-at.% Al fine-particle ferromagnets aged to peak magnetic hardness in the temperature range 298-573 K, and the results were found to obey the relationship M=A-S/sub 0/ ln t over a time interval of approximately 1 to 10/sup 3/-10/sup 4/ s. Coefficients of magnetic viscosity and susceptibility data are analyzed taking into account corrections for a finite demagnetizing factor, thus allowing the determination of the fundamental viscosity coefficient S/sub nu /=k/sub b/T/ nu M/sub s/, where nu is the activation volume. A linear fit and extrapolation of the temperature dependence of the maximum effective viscosity coefficients gives rise to nonzero intercepts, suggesting that interparticle interactions may influence magnetization reversal. The viscosity data are found to be in general agreement with a previously proposed modified Stoner-Wohlfarth coherent rotation model for predicting the levels of coercivity in these Co-Al alloys. >

Abstract

Since 1975, and in cooperation with the French Telecommunications Authority, we have been conducting field trials and feasibility studies to determine the capability of existing copper loop plant to support telematics services. This paper presents some of the economic information that has come out of our program. The economic analysis proceeds from a study of the technical options most likely to prove cost-effective in the foreseeable future. We present a method for comparing costs for telecommunications plant between subscriber premises and the central office of a multichannel, multiservice telematics network. The application of our method, to the possible technical solutions in any given case, leads to a series of conclusions Which could be valid for the coming stages of telematics network development.

Abstract

We report results of a search for CP violation in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D+ -> K- K+ pi+, phi pi+, K*(892)0 K+, and pi- pi+ pi+ based on data from the charm hadroproduction experiment E791 at Fermilab. We search for a difference in the D+ and D- decay rates for each of the final states. No evidence for a difference is seen. The decay rate asymmetry parameters A(CP), defined as the difference in the D+ and D- decay rates divided by the sum of the decay rates, are measured to be: A(CP)(K K pi) = -0.014 +/- 0.029, A(CP)(phi pi) = -0.028 +/- 0.036, A(CP)(K*(892) K) = -0.010 +/- 0.050, and A(CP)(pi pi pi) = -0.017 +/- 0.042., 13 pages, 5 figures, 1 table; Elsevier LaTeX

Abstract

The inclusive production cross sections of the charmed mesons D^0, D^+, D_s^+ and D^{*+} have been measured in interactions of 920 GeV protons on C, Ti, and W targets with the HERA-B detector at the HERA storage ring. Differential cross sections as a function of transverse momentum and Feynman's x variable are given for the central rapidity region and for transverse momenta up to $\pT=3.5$ GeV/$c$. The atomic mass number dependence and the leading to non-leading particle production asymmetries are presented as well., Comment: Submitted to EPJ C

Abstract

A detailed description of an original method used to measure the luminosity accumulated by the HERA-B experiment for a data sample taken during the 2002-2003 HERA running period is reported. We show that, with this method, a total luminosity measurement can be achieved with a typical precision, including overall systematic uncertainties, at a level of 5% or better. We also report evidence for the detection of delta-rays generated in the target and comment on the possible use of such delta rays to measure luminosity., Comment: 24 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

The physics objectives of SuperB, an asymmetric electron-positron collider with a luminosity above 10^36/cm^2/s are described, together with the conceptual design of a novel low emittance design that achieves this performance with wallplug power comparable to that of the current B Factories, and an upgraded detector capable of doing the physics in the SuperB environment.

Abstract

We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decay $D^0 to mu^+mu^-$ using $50 times 10^6$ events recorded with a dimuon trigger in interactions of 920 GeV protons with nuclei by the HERA-B experiment. We find no evidence for such decays and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction $Br(D^0 to mu^+mu^-)

Abstract

We have searched for Theta^+(1540) and Xi^{--}(1862) pentaquark candidates in proton-induced reactions on C, Ti and W targets at mid-rapidity and sqrt{s} = 41.6 GeV. In 2x10^8 inelastic events we find no evidence for narrow (sigma~5 MeV) signals in the Theta^+ -> pK_s and Xi^{--} -> Xi^-pi^- channels; our 95% CL upper limits (UL) for the inclusive production cross section times branching fraction Bx(dsigma/dy)|_{y~0} are 3.7 and 2.5 microb/N. The UL of the yield ratio of [Theta^+ / Lambda(1520)] < 2.7% is significantly lower than model predictions. Our UL of [BxXi^{--} / Xi(1530)^0] < 4% is at variance with the results that have provided first evidence for the Xi^{--} signal.

218 páginas, 106 figuras, 89 tablas.-- arXiv:0907.5386v2.-- Report of the CKM workshop, Rome 9-13th Sep. 2008.-- et al., One of the major challenges of particle physics has been to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of quark flavor and measurements and theoretical interpretations of their results have advanced tremendously: apart from masses and quantum numbers of flavor particles, there now exist detailed measurements of the characteristics of their interactions allowing stringent tests of Standard Model predictions. Among the most interesting phenomena of flavor physics is the violation of the CP symmetry that has been subtle and difficult to explore. Till early 1990s observations of CP violation were confined to neutral $K$ mesons, but since then a large number of CP-violating processes have been studied in detail in neutral $B$ mesons. In parallel, measurements of the couplings of the heavy quarks and the dynamics for their decays in large samples of $K, D$, and $B$ mesons have been greatly improved in accuracy and the results are being used as probes in the search for deviations from the Standard Model. In the near future, there will be a transition from the current to a new generation of experiments, thus a review of the status of quark flavor physics is timely. This report summarizes the results of the current generation of experiments that is about to be completed and it confronts these results with the theoretical understanding of the field., We would like to thank the Universit´a ”Sapienza” of Rome and in particular its Department of Physics for the hospitality during the days of the workshop (9-13 September 2008).
