The first record of the goldblotch grouper, Epinephelus costae (Steindachner, 1878), from Galician waters is reported. Two specimens were recorded in the south of Galicia but only one of them was retained. Morphometric and meristic parameters, along with DNA barcoding, confirmed the identification of the preserved specimen whereas the other was identified based on a photograph. Results of the histological examination of the gonads of E. costae are also reported, showing a mature female at the beginning of the reproductive cycle. In addition, a review of the northern limit of distribution for the species is carried out.

The first records of the spearfish remora, Remora brachyptera (Lowe, 1839) (Actinopterygii: Echeneidae), and the white grouper, Epinephelus aeneus (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817) (Actinopterygii: Serranidae), from northern Spanish waters are reported. Both findings are, respectively, the second and the first northernmost reports, for both fish species, in the eastern Atlantic. Morphometric and meristic parameters, along with DNA barcoding, confirmed the identification of the remora specimen. Results of the histological examination of the gonads of R. brachyptera are also reported, showing a mature male at the developing maturity phase. The grouper specimen was identified taking into account its characteristic coloration based on a photograph.

This paper addresses the task of anomaly diagnosis when the underlying data generation process has a complex spatio-temporal (ST) dependency. The key technical challenge is to extract actionable insights from the dependency tensor characterizing high-order interactions among temporal and spatial indices. We formalize the problem as supervised dependency discovery, where the ST dependency is learned as a side product of multivariate time-series classification. We show that temporal positional encoding used in existing ST transformer works has a serious limitation in capturing higher frequencies (short time scales). We propose a new positional encoding with a theoretical guarantee, based on discrete Fourier transform. We also propose a new ST dependency discovery framework, which can provide readily consumable diagnostic information in both spatial and temporal directions. Finally, we demonstrate the utility of the proposed model, DFStrans (Diagnostic Fourier-based Spatio-temporal Transformer), in a real industrial application of building elevator control.

In this paper we consider several algorithms for quantum computer vision using Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) devices, and benchmark them for a real problem against their classical counterparts. Specifically, we consider two approaches: a quantum Support Vector Machine (QSVM) on a universal gate-based quantum computer, and QBoost on a quantum annealer. The quantum vision systems are benchmarked for an unbalanced dataset of images where the aim is to detect defects in manufactured car pieces. We see that the quantum algorithms outperform their classical counterparts in several ways, with QBoost allowing for larger problems to be analyzed with present-day quantum annealers. Data preprocessing, including dimensionality reduction and contrast enhancement, is also discussed, as well as hyperparameter tuning in QBoost. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first implementation of quantum computer vision systems for a problem of industrial relevance in a manufacturing production line., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, 16 tables, revised version

We all know that the use of marijuana is a potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic and possible mechanisms of action and components that can help reduce the effects of pain in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. Our study aimed to analyze the anti-inflammatory and analgesic characteristics of cannabis derivatives in patients with temporomandibular pathology. Thirty-six patients were divided into three groups: one was treated with Cannabidiol (CBD) cream, the second was treated with CBD Vaper, and the third was treated with conventional anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen 600 mg. All patients underwent a dental computed tomography scan at the beginning and another at the end of treatment 28 days later. In addition to the study treatment of Cannabis and anti-inflammatories, all patients received physiotherapy treatment on day 0, day 14, day 21, and day 28 of the study. The study’s results allow us to evaluate that using the CBD cream with physiotherapy results in a favorable pain reduction of 59%, CBD Vaper with physiotherapy has reduced pain by 35%, and the combined use of ibuprofen medication with physiotherapy has reduced pain by 45%. Therefore, using CBD and physiotherapy allows a biological reduction of pain and inflammation at TMJ. The most significant reduction in analgesia and pain occurred with CBD cream, followed by ibuprofen, which had less effect than CBD Vaper. We can control the pain of the TMJ with the use of CBD and treatment with the physiotherapist that allows us to maintain the dose and time of use of CBD both in cream and in Vaper; this improves the quality of life and returns the patient to cognitive relieving stress and anxiety.

Computer Science - Machine Learning ,Computer Science - Artificial Intelligence - Abstract
Deep Learning has become a very valuable tool in different fields, and no one doubts the learning capacity of these models. Nevertheless, since Deep Learning models are often seen as black boxes due to their lack of interpretability, there is a general mistrust in their decision-making process. To find a balance between effectiveness and interpretability, Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) is gaining popularity in recent years, and some of the methods within this area are used to generate counterfactual explanations. The process of generating these explanations generally consists of solving an optimization problem for each input to be explained, which is unfeasible when real-time feedback is needed. To speed up this process, some methods have made use of autoencoders to generate instant counterfactual explanations. Recently, a method called Deep Guided Counterfactual Explanations (DGCEx) has been proposed, which trains an autoencoder attached to a classification model, in order to generate straightforward counterfactual explanations. However, this method does not ensure that the generated counterfactual instances are close to the data manifold, so unrealistic counterfactual instances may be generated. To overcome this issue, this paper presents Distribution Aware Deep Guided Counterfactual Explanations (DA-DGCEx), which adds a term to the DGCEx cost function that penalizes out of distribution counterfactual instances.

Abstract The airway complex is modified by bimaxillary advancement surgery performed in patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The aim of the present study is to analyse the volume of nasal and maxillary sinus after bimaxillary advancement surgery in patients suffering from OSA. The maxillary sinus and nasal complex of eighteen patients with OSA was measured through cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) before and after they were treated with bimaxillary advancement surgery. Digital planning software was used to effectively measure the upper volume changes, as well as, statistical analysis of the results was performed. Methods Eighteen patients were diagnosed with OSA the severity of which was measured by the apnea hypopnea index and were selected and submitted to preoperative and postoperative CBCT scans. Afterwards, datasets were uploaded into therapeutic digital planning software (Dolphin Imaging) to measure the volume of the right and left maxillary sinus and nasal and maxillary sinus complex. Statistically analysis between preoperative and postoperative measures was performed by Student t-test statistical analysis. Results The paired t-test showed statistically significant volumetric reductions in the left maxillary sinus (p = 0.0004), right maxillary sinus (p

The primary purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) as a novel tool for the 3D analysis of bone density around dental implants in tibia rabbits. Six male New Zealand rabbits were used in our evaluation. One Copa SKY® (Bredent Medical GmbH & Co. K.G.) with a 3.5 mm diameter by 8.0 mm in length was placed within 12 tibia rabbits divided into two experimental groups: Group A (crestal placement) and Group B (sub-crestal placement). The animals were sacrificed at four weeks. Micro-CT evaluations showed a high amount of bone around all implants in the tibia rabbit bone. There was an increased formation of bone around the Copa SKY implants, mainly in the implants that were placed crestally. The most frequent density found in most implants was a medullary bone formation surrounding the implant; the density three (D3) was the most common type in all implants. The 3D model analysis revealed a mean bone volume (B.V.) of 31.24 ± 1.24% in crestal implants compared with the 43.12 ± 0.43% in sub-crestal implants. The mean actual contact implant to bone (B.I.C.) in the sub-crestal group was 51.76 ± 0.86%, compared to the 42.63 ± 0.75% in the crestal group. Compared to crestal implants, the Copa Sky implant placed sub-crestally allows for the formation of bone on top of the neck, thereby stimulating bone growth in tibia rabbits.

The objective of this evaluation was to measure the width and length of connective tissue (CT) and crestal bone resorption (CBR) related to minicono® abutment inserted in conical connection dental implants, which were placed crestal and subcrestally in a dog's mandible. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight Top DM implants with the same coronal diameter were placed at the crestal level, 1 mm (test 1 group) and 2 mm (test 2 group) positions underneath buccal-lingual bone crests. Dental implants used in the study were separated into three groups of 16 implants each. The implants were randomly inserted into healed bone after two months post-extraction sockets of three lower premolars, and first molar, bilaterally in six male fox hound dogs. One 3 mm minicono height abutment was connected to conical connection implants placed at the crestal level (control), 1 mm (test 1) and 2 mm (test 2) positions under buccal-lingual crests. Results: All abutments and implants used were clinically and histologically integrated into the bone-soft tissue. Soft tissue behavior was observed at eight and 12 weeks in all test groups, displaying similar quantitative findings with significant differences (p > 0.05). However, crestal bone loss was significantly greater at the buccal side around that control group compared to the test 1 and 2 groups. The difference values between groups at the implant shoulder to the top of the lingual bone crest (IS-LBC) and the implant shoulder to the top of the buccal bone crest (IS-BBC) were significantly greater for the test 2 group in comparison with the other two groups (p < 0.05) at eight weeks. In addition, crestal bone resorption (CBR) increased in the crestal group at twelve weeks, but it was reduced for the test 1 and test 2 groups in implants placed sub-crestally (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Crestal bone loss could be reduced using a 3 mm high abutment on implants submerged below the bone crest from 1 to 2 mm positions.

- Abstract
Greenspaces are important for sustaining healthy urban environments and their human populations. Yet their capacity to support multiple ecosystem services simultaneously (multiservices) compared with nearby natural ecosystems remains virtually unknown. We conducted a global field survey in 56 urban areas to investigate the influence of urban greenspaces on 23 soil and plant attributes and compared them with nearby natural environments. We show that, in general, urban greenspaces and nearby natural areas support similar levels of soil multiservices, with only six of 23 attributes (available phosphorus, water holding capacity, water respiration, plant cover, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), and arachnid richness) significantly greater in greenspaces, and one (available ammonium) greater in natural areas. Further analyses showed that, although natural areas and urban greenspaces delivered a similar number of services at low (>25% threshold) and moderate (>50%) levels of functioning, natural systems supported significantly more functions at high (>75%) levels of functioning. Management practices (mowing) played an important role in explaining urban ecosystem services, but there were no effects of fertilisation or irrigation. Some services declined with increasing site size, for both greenspaces and natural areas. Our work highlights the fact that urban greenspaces are more similar to natural environments than previously reported and underscores the importance of managing urban greenspaces not only for their social and recreational values, but for supporting multiple ecosystem services on which soils and human well-being depends.

- Abstract
The largest stocks of soil organic carbon can be found in cold regions such as Arctic, subarctic and alpine biomes, which are warming faster than the global average. Discriminating between particulate and mineral-associated organic carbon can constrain the uncertainty of projected changes in global soil organic carbon stocks. Yet carbon fractions are not considered when assessing the contribution of cold regions to land carbon–climate feedbacks. Here we synthesize field paired observations of particulate and mineral-associated organic carbon in the mineral layer, along with experimental warming data, to investigate whether the particulate fraction dominates in cold regions and whether this relates to higher soil organic carbon losses with warming than in other (milder) biomes. We show that soil organic carbon in the first 30 cm of mineral soil is dominated or co-dominated by particulate carbon in both permafrost and non-permafrost soils, and in Arctic and alpine ecosystems but not in subarctic environments. Our findings indicate that soil organic carbon is most vulnerable to warming in cold regions compared with milder biomes, with this vulnerability mediated by higher warming-induced losses of particulate carbon. The massive soil carbon accumulation in cold regions appears distributed predominantly in the more vulnerable particulate fraction rather than in the more persistent mineral-associated fraction, supporting the likelihood of a strong, positive land carbon–climate feedback.

- Abstract
Plant–soil biodiversity interactions are fundamental for the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems. Yet, the existence of a set of globally distributed topsoil microbial and small invertebrate organisms consistently associated with land plants (i.e., their consistent soil-borne microbiome), together with the environmental preferences and functional capabilities of these organisms, remains unknown. We conducted a standardized field survey under 150 species of land plants, including 58 species of bryophytes and 92 of vascular plants, across 124 locations from all continents. We found that, despite the immense biodiversity of soil organisms, the land plants evaluated only shared a small fraction (less than 1%) of all microbial and invertebrate taxa that were present across contrasting climatic and soil conditions and vegetation types. These consistent taxa were dominated by generalist decomposers and phagotrophs and their presence was positively correlated with the abundance of functional genes linked to mineralization. Finally, we showed that crossing environmental thresholds in aridity (aridity index of 0.65, i.e., the transition from mesic to dry ecosystems), soil pH (5.5; i.e., the transition from acidic to strongly acidic soils), and carbon (less than 2%, the lower limit of fertile soils) can result in drastic disruptions in the associations between land plants and soil organisms, with potential implications for the delivery of soil ecosystem processes under ongoing global environmental change.

- Abstract
Perennial plants create productive and biodiverse hotspots, known as fertile islands, beneath their canopies. These hotspots largely determine the structure and functioning of drylands worldwide. Despite their ubiquity, the factors controlling fertile islands under conditions of contrasting grazing by livestock, the most prevalent land use in drylands, remain virtually unknown. Here we evaluated the relative importance of grazing pressure and herbivore type, climate and plant functional traits on 24 soil physical and chemical attributes that represent proxies of key ecosystem services related to decomposition, soil fertility, and soil and water conservation. To do this, we conducted a standardized global survey of 288 plots at 88 sites in 25 countries worldwide. We show that aridity and plant traits are the major factors associated with the magnitude of plant effects on fertile islands in grazed drylands worldwide. Grazing pressure had little influence on the capacity of plants to support fertile islands. Taller and wider shrubs and grasses supported stronger island effects. Stable and functional soils tended to be linked to species-rich sites with taller plants. Together, our findings dispel the notion that grazing pressure or herbivore type are linked to the formation or intensification of fertile islands in drylands. Rather, our study suggests that changes in aridity, and processes that alter island identity and therefore plant traits, will have marked effects on how perennial plants support and maintain the functioning of drylands in a more arid and grazed world.
