The evaluation of impact of collaborative research on robust design methodologies and methods is important to both academic and industry stakeholders. This paper introduces a framework for impact evaluation which combines the broader framework adopted for the academic research impact assessment with the organisation viewpoint centred on business results, process improvement and product development teams capability improvement. A large scale empirical study conducted with evidence from technical reports on workplace projects from an automotive OEM proved the validity of the proposed framework.

This paper presents an evaluation study for the System State Flow Diagram function modeling framework based on a large-scale study with an automotive OEM. Technical reports are used to evaluate the usage of the framework within the organization. The paper also introduces a list of the type of problems that engineers are interested in in practical function modelling. The findings suggest that there is a widespread uptake of the framework across the organization and it supports the usage of relevant key engineering tools within the context of a broader model-based Failure Mode Analysis methodology.

The effects of replacing fish meal (FM) in the diet with defatted mealworm larvae meal (DMLM) on growth, carcass, and biochemical constituents of serum of Japanese quail chicks were investigated. A total of 600 unsexed one-day-old chicks were allotted to five dietary treatments with six replicates of 20 chicks each. The diets were formulated by replacing FM with DMLM at the levels of 25% (D25), 50% (D50), 75% (D75), and 100% (D100). The FM, D25 and D50 diets resulted in greater final bodyweight, higher bodyweight gain, and improved feed conversion ratio compared with the other diets. Diets that contained DMLM decreased the feed intake compared with the FM diet. The FM and D25 diets increased the hot and cold carcass yields compared with the other diets, whereas the D75 and D100 diets significantly enhanced the relative weight of the small intestine and abdominal fat compared with FM, D25, and D50. The replacement of FM with DMLM reduced the serum globulin, total cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and the albumin to globulin ratio significantly. The best protein and energy efficiency ratios and European efficiency factor were obtained with the D25 and D50 diets. In conclusion, the replacement of FM with DMLM at the levels of 25% and 50% produced positive results in growth performance, in serum albumin to globulin ratio, and in nutrient use efficiency in quail.Keywords: performance, serum biochemistry, slaughtering

Investigation on maritime accidents is a very important tool in identifying human factor-related problems. This study examines the causes of accidents, in particular the reasons for the grounding of container ships. These are analysed and evaluation according to the contribution rate using the Monte Carlo simulation. The OpenFTA program is used to run the simulation. The study data are obtained from 46 accident reports from 1993 to 2011. The data were prepared by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS). The GISIS is one of the organizations that investigate reported accidents in an international framework and in national shipping companies. The Monte Carlo simulation determined a total of 23.96% human error mental problems, 26.04% physical problems, 38.58% voyage management errors, and 11.42% team management error causes. Consequently, 50% of the human error is attributable to human performance disorders, while 50% team failure has been found.

Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a potentially fatal viral infection with reported case fatality rates of 5–30%. Humans become infected through tick bites, by contact with a patient with CCHF during the acute phase of infection, or by contact with blood or tissues from viraemic livestock. In this first report in the literature, we present the characteristics of three pregnant women with CCHF infection and the outcome of their babies. Transmission of the CCHF infection could be either intrauterine or perinatal. In endemic regions, CCHF infection should be considered in the differential diagnosis of HELLP syndrome (haemolytic anaemia, elevated liver enzymes, low platelet count), and obstetricians should be familiar with the characteristics of CCHF infection. In the aetiology of necrotising enterocolitis, CCHF should be considered.

Giant and paediatric cases are rare. This report presents a 10-month-old baby with a giant multilobular cavernous haemangioma in the left parietal lobe who presented with seizures.

Immunohistochemical staining for p16INK4a (p16) and HPV L1 capsid protein (HPV L1) are a useful ancillary technique for diagnosing preneoplastic lesions of the cervix in histologic specimens. The purpose of the current study was to examine the usefulness of p16 and HPV L1 immunolocalization in PapSpin Liquid-Based Gynecology Cytology Specimens (PapSpin cytology) derived cell block material in the diagnosis and prognosis of preneoplastic lesions of the cervix.The cervical cytologic smears of 64 patients who underwent colposcopic biopsy our Center were retrospectively evaluated. The cervical cytologic smears have been previously assessed by the PapSpin cytology and cell blocks were prepared from these samples. Immunohistochemical staining p16 and HPV L1 was performed on paraffin-embedded cell blocks of 64 PapSpin cytology specimens.The positive staining of the cell blocks for P16 was directly proportional to the degree of intraepithelial lesion. In cases with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and high grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL), the positive staining of p16 was found to be statistically significant. In contrast, with the increasing degree of the lesion, a statistically significant decrease was observed in the HPV L1 positivity.Immunohistochemical p16 and HPV L1 studies on cell block may increase the diagnostic accuracy of cervical cytology. When p16 and HPV L1 are immunohistochemically applied together on the cell blocks, they can provide information about the prognosis of cervical intraepithelial lesions.

In recent years agile software development methods have been used by software development teams. In this paper practical results of applying an agile software development methodology, extreme programming (XP), in the development of telecommunication software projects, are presented. Experience gained by applying XP rules are reported and each rule is scrutinized. Our conclusion is that XP could give better results provided that it is tailored for telecommunication software projects.

In this study we predict traffic speed on Istanbul roads using RTMS (remote traffic microwave sensor) speed measurements obtained from the Istanbul Municipality web site. We use two different pattern recognition methods, k-nearest neighbor (kNN) and support vector regression machine (SVM). In order to predict the speed at a short time (5 minutes to 60 minutes) ahead, we use speed measurements taken at different time intervals before the prediction. We find out that both long term (1 day or 1 week) speed information and short term (5 minutes to 60 minutes) speed information play an important role for short time speed prediction. We use backward feature selection algorithm to find out the most important features for speed prediction. In addition to speed measurements for the same sensor at different times, we use speed measurements from different sensors to predict speed at a certain sensor point. We find out that using additional sensors results in better speed prediction. We also find out that using SVM results in better prediction than KNN for this problem.

Calcification of gastric carcinoma is extremely rare. All reported cases corresponded to a mutinous adenocarcinoma [I], 14 cases of calcified gastric carcinoma have been reported in the English language literature up to 1984 [2]. Since the first computed tomography (CT) demonstration of a calcified gastric carcinoma reported by Nishimura in 1984,6 new cases have been reported and of these, 5 were detected by CT [ 1,3-71. Case report A CT study of a 44-year-old man with anorexia, weight loss and dysphagia, showed a gastric mass which diffusely thickened the wall and extended from cardia to pylorus. There were multiple punctate calcifications within it (Fig la,b). There were no interfaces between the mass and the diaphragm, the left hepatic lobe, or the horizontal part of the duodenum.
