1. Pseudorapidity dependence of the transverse momentum distribution of charged particles in pp collisions at 0.9, 2.36, and 7 TeV

Abstract: We study the transverse momentum spectra of charged particles from 0.1−2 GeV/c in bins of pseudorapidity η of width 0.2 ranging from 0 to 2.4 produced in pp collisions, at three different center of mass energies, namely s=0.9, 2.36, 7TeV. We used PYTHIA8.307 and QGSJETII-04 and compared the simulation results with experimental data under the same conditions. The PYTHIA8 model has an excellent description of the experimental data, particularly at the high pT region of the distribution, and the prediction is independent of the η ranges. Furthermore, the predictions are more or less the same at lower values of pT, but a more prominent bump is observed for 0.4≤pT≤0.8GeV/c with increasing the center-of-mass energy. The QGSJET model reproduces the data only in the intermediate region of the pT over all the η slices and underpredicts for low and high pT regions. With the increase in the center of mass energy, the model’s predictions got closer to the data, particularly at a high part of the pT distributions. Furthermore, the Blast wave model with Tsallis statistics is applied to the pT spectra of CMS data and PYTHIA8 and QGSJET models, and the kinetic freeze-out temperature, transverse flow velocity, and the entropy parameter q are extracted. The kinetic freeze-out temperature increases from lower pseudorapidity regions to higher pseudo-rapidity regions. Transverse flow velocity and the entropy parameter q have the opposite trend to kinetic freeze-out temperature. All these parameters are also more significant at 7TeV and have the lowest values at 0.9TeV, which shows the dependence of these parameters on the collision energy.

2. The study of strongly intensive observables for $\pi^{\pm,0}$ in $pp$ collisions at LHC energy in the framework of PYTHIA model

Abstract: The fractal and phase transitional properties of each type of pions (i.e. $\pi^{\pm,0}$) through one-dimensional $\eta-$space, at an energy of $\sqrt{s}=13~$TeV, have been studied with the help of the Scaled Factorial Moment (SFM) framework. To generate simulated data sets for $pp$ collisions under the minimum bias (MB) condition at $\sqrt{s}=13~$TeV, we have employed the Monte Carlo-based event simulator PYTHIA. Various parameters such as the Levy index $(\mu)$, degree of multifractality $(r)$, anomalous fractal dimension $(d_q)$, multifractal specific heat $(c)$ and critical exponent $(\nu)$ have been calculated. To study the Bose Einstein(BE) effect due to identical particles (here pions) we have also derived these parameters for mixed pion pairs (i.e. $\{\pi^{+},\pi^{-}\}$, $\{\pi^{+},\pi^{0}\}$ and $\{\pi^{-},\pi^{0}\}$) and we find that the effects of identical particles weakened for the mixture with respect to the individual distributions. The quest for the quark-hadron phase transition has also been conducted within the framework of the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) theory of second-order phase transition. Analysis revealed that for PYTHIA-generated MB events, there is a clear indication of the quark-hadron phase transition according to the GL theory. Furthermore, the values of the multifractal specific heat ($c$) for each $\pi^{+}, \pi^{-}, \pi^{0}$ and the mixture pair data sets of pions generated by PYTHIA model at MB condition, indicate a transition from multifractality to monofractality in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13~$TeV., Comment: 19 pages, 10 Figures ( Total 18 Figures with sub-figures)

3. Pixel-Level GPS Localization and Denoising using Computer Vision and 6G Communication Beams

Abstract: Accurate localization is crucial for various applications, including autonomous vehicles and next-generation wireless networks. However, the reliability and precision of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), are compromised by multi-path errors and non-line-of-sight scenarios. This paper presents a novel approach to enhance GPS accuracy by combining visual data from RGB cameras with wireless signals captured at millimeter-wave (mmWave) and sub-terahertz (sub-THz) basestations. We propose a sensing-aided framework for (i) site-specific GPS data characterization and (ii) GPS position de-noising that utilizes multi-modal visual and wireless information. Our approach is validated in a realistic Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) scenario using a comprehensive real-world dataset, demonstrating a substantial reduction in localization error to sub-meter levels. Abstract: The notion of quasi-Poisson $G$-spaces with $D/G$-valued moment maps was introduced by Alekseev and Kosmann-Schwarzbach in 1999. Our main result is a \emph{Lifting Theorem}, establishing a bijective correspondence between the categories of quasi-Poisson $G$-spaces with $D/G$-valued moment maps and of quasi-Poisson $G\times G$-spaces with $D$-valued moment maps. Abstract: The Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), a state-of-the-art facility for studying the strong force, is expected to begin commissioning its first experiments in 2028. This is an opportune time for artificial intelligence (AI) to be included from the start at this facility and in all phases that lead up to the experiments. The second annual workshop organized by the AI4EIC working group, which recently took place, centered on exploring all current and prospective application areas of AI for the EIC. This workshop is not only beneficial for the EIC, but also provides valuable insights for the newly established ePIC collaboration at EIC. This paper summarizes the different activities and R&D projects covered across the sessions of the workshop and provides an overview of the goals, approaches and strategies regarding AI/ML in the EIC community, as well as cutting-edge techniques currently studied in other experiments.

Abstract: This paper explores the adoption of an entangled eclecticism perspective in Learning Experience Design (LXD), integrating a sociotechnical-pedagogical systems approach. It emphasizes the significance of considering the sociocultural, technological, and pedagogical dimensions of learning as a cohesive, interconnected ecology to design effective learning experiences. The authors discuss the implications of this perspective on learning outcomes, methodologies, and the selection of relevant theories for design. The aim is to guide the creation of learning experiences that are not only effective, efficient, and appealing but also deeply empathetic, culturally sensitive, and responsive to the evolving dynamics of learning environments. Concluding that LXD is a complementary approach to traditional learning design, the paper underscores its evolution, drawing from multiple traditions to offer a holistic framework for educational design and technology. This approach strives for learning experiences that are not just effective and efficient, but also culturally sensitive and empathetic, adapting to the dynamic nature of learning environments. Broader implications of this approach and directions for future research are discussed.

7. Advancing Understanding of Learning Experience Design: Refining and Clarifying Definitions Using an eDelphi Study Approach

Abstract: We report findings from an eDelphi study that aimed to explore 16 expert panelists' perspectives regarding the key attributes of learning experience design (LXD) as it relates to the following: design, disciplines, methods, and theory. Findings suggest consensus was reached regarding LXD's focus on learner-centrism and incorporating human-centered design practices to design learning environments. LXD practitioners adapt methods and theories from fields such as human--computer interaction and user experience. Implications suggest a need to develop specific methods and theories within our own field.

Abstract: We present three-particle mixed-harmonic correlations 〈cos⁡(mϕa+nϕb−(m+n)ϕc)〉 for harmonics m,n=1−3 for charged particles in sNN=200 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC. These measurements provide information on the three-dimensional structure of the initial collision zone and are important for constraining models of a subsequent low-viscosity quark–gluon plasma expansion phase. We investigate correlations between the first, second and third harmonics predicted as a consequence of fluctuations in the initial state. The dependence of the correlations on the pseudorapidity separation between particles show hints of a breaking of longitudinal invariance. We compare our results to a number of state-of-the art hydrodynamic calculations with different initial states and temperature dependent viscosities. These measurements provide important steps towards constraining the temperature dependent viscosity and longitudinal structure of the initial state at RHIC.

Abstract: Assessing the feasibility of 2030 as a target date for global elimination of trachoma, and identification of districts that may require enhanced treatment to meet World Health Organization (WHO) elimination criteria by this date are key challenges in operational planning for trachoma programmes. Here we address these challenges by prospectively evaluating forecasting models of trachomatous inflammation-follicular (TF) prevalence, leveraging ensemble-based approaches. Seven candidate probabilistic models were developed to forecast district-wise TF prevalence in 11 760 districts, trained using district-level data on the population prevalence of TF in children aged 1-9 years from 2004 to 2022. Geographical location, history of mass drug administration treatment, and previously measured prevalence data were included in these models as key predictors. The best-performing models were included in an ensemble, using weights derived from their relative likelihood scores. To incorporate the inherent stochasticity of disease transmission and challenges of population-level surveillance, we forecasted probability distributions for the TF prevalence in each geographic district, rather than predicting a single value. Based on our probabilistic forecasts, 1.46% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.43-1.48%) of all districts in trachoma-endemic countries, equivalent to 172 districts, will exceed the 5% TF control threshold in 2030 with the current interventions. Global elimination of trachoma as a public health problem by 2030 may require enhanced intervention and/or surveillance of high-risk districts.

Abstract: Fluctuations of conserved quantities such as baryon number, charge, and strangeness are sensitive to the correlation length of the hot and dense matter created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions and can be used to search for the QCD critical point. We report the first measurements of the moments of net-kaon multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions at sNN=7.7, 11.5, 14.5, 19.6, 27, 39, 62.4, and 200 GeV. The collision centrality and energy dependence of the mean (M), variance (σ2), skewness (S), and kurtosis (κ) for net-kaon multiplicity distributions as well as the ratio σ2/M and the products Sσ and κσ2 are presented. Comparisons are made with Poisson and negative binomial baseline calculations as well as with UrQMD, a transport model (UrQMD) that does not include effects from the QCD critical point. Within current uncertainties, the net-kaon cumulant ratios appear to be monotonic as a function of collision energy.

Abstract: The road towards the discovery of new, useful materials is full of imperfections. Machine learning, which is currently the power horse of material discovery when it works in concert with density functional theory, has been able to accelerate the discovery of new materials for various applications by learning the properties of known, stable materials to infer the properties of unknown, deformed materials. Physics-informed machine learning (PIML) is particularly believed to bridge the gap between known materials and the virtually infinite space of crystal structures with imperfections such as defects, grain boundaries, composition disorders and others. State of the art PIML models struggle to bridge this gap, however. In this work we show that a critical correction of the physics underpinning a PIML, our direct integration of external potential (DIEP) method, which mimics the integration of the external potential term in typical density functional theory calculations, improves the generalisability of the model to a range of imperfect structures, including diamond defects. Abstract: The transversity distribution, which describes transversely polarized quarks in transversely polarized nucleons, is a fundamental component of the spin structure of the nucleon, and is only loosely constrained by global fits to existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) data. In transversely polarized p↑+p collisions it can be accessed using transverse polarization dependent fragmentation functions which give rise to azimuthal correlations between the polarization of the struck parton and the final state scalar mesons.This letter reports on spin dependent di-hadron correlations measured by the STAR experiment. The new dataset corresponds to 25 pb−1 integrated luminosity of p↑+p collisions at s=500 GeV, an increase of more than a factor of ten compared to our previous measurement at s=200 GeV. Non-zero asymmetries sensitive to transversity are observed at a Q2 of several hundred GeV and are found to be consistent with the former measurement and a model calculation. We expect that these data will enable an extraction of transversity with comparable precision to current SIDIS datasets but at much higher momentum transfers where subleading effects are suppressed. Abstract: 3D reconstruction of hand-object manipulations is important for emulating human actions. Most methods dealing with challenging object manipulation scenarios, focus on hands reconstruction in isolation, ignoring physical and kinematic constraints due to object contact. Some approaches produce more realistic results by jointly reconstructing 3D hand-object interactions. However, they focus on coarse pose estimation or rely upon known hand and object shapes. We propose the first approach for realistic 3D hand-object shape and pose reconstruction from a single depth map. Unlike previous work, our voxel-based reconstruction network regresses the vertex coordinates of a hand and an object and reconstructs more realistic interaction. Our pipeline additionally predicts voxelized hand-object shapes, having a one-to-one mapping to the input voxelized depth. Thereafter, we exploit the graph nature of the hand and object shapes, by utilizing the recent GraFormer network with positional embedding to reconstruct shapes from template meshes. In addition, we show the impact of adding another GraFormer component that refines the reconstructed shapes based on the hand-object interactions and its ability to reconstruct more accurate object shapes. We perform an extensive evaluation on the HO-3D and DexYCB datasets and show that our method outperforms existing approaches in hand reconstruction and produces plausible reconstructions for the objects

36. Mass Spectrum of Non-Charmed and Charmed Meson States in Extended Linear-Sigma Model

Abstract: The mass spectrum of different meson particles is generated using an effective Lagrangian of the extended linear-sigma model (eLSM) for scalar and pseudoscalar meson fields and quark flavors, up, down, strange, and charm. Analytical formulas for the masses of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, and axialvector meson states are derived assuming global chiral symmetry. The various eLSM parameters are analytically deduced and numerically computed. This enables accurate estimations of the masses of sixteen non-charmed and thirteen charmed meson states at vanishing temperature. The comparison of these results to recent compilation of the particle data group (PDG) allows to draw the conclusion that the masses of sixteen non-charmed and thirteen charmed meson states calculated in the eLSM are in good agreement with the PDG. 37. Scaffolding Computational Thinking through Block Coding: A Learner Experience Design Study

Abstract: Theorists and educators increasingly highlight the importance of computational thinking in STEM education. While various scaffolding strategies describe how to best support this skillset (i.e., paired programming, worked examples), less research has focused on the design and development of these digital tools. One way to support computational thinking and data science is through block coding and other ways that visualize the coding process. However, less is known about the learning experience design of these tools. Based on this gap, this work-in-progress study compared the learning experience design of novices and those with more advanced understanding of computational thinking. Results found differences emerge in the perceived dynamic interaction and scaffolding constructs of learning experience design. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.

Abstract: Students employing problem-based learning (PBL) face complex problems admitting multiple solutions. Knowledge maps are an effective tool to support students in PBL to represent, analyze, and guide their knowledge structure. Previous studies have examined the use of knowledge mapping techniques in both individual and collaborative learning process. These studies explored how knowledge mapping influenced students' learning outcomes and their knowledge understanding, but they did not document how the map structure changed when shifting from individual to collaborative mapping process. In this work-in-process study, we collected maps from students first as individuals and then as they collaboratively worked in groups to solve a case. We examined two questions: (Q1) how does the structure of a map change when shifting from individuals to groups, and (Q2) how does the size of a group mediate these changes. We used 12 network science metrics capturing the breadth (e.g., number of edges) and complexity (e.g., number of cycles) of problems and compared these metrics in individuals versus groups (Q1) and across group sizes (Q2). Based on 44 individual maps arranged in 10 groups of four or five students, we found that (1) five metrics significantly differ (p < 0.05 in a one-way ANOVA) between individual and group maps; and (2) only the number of edges and paths are affected by the size of a group (based on Tukey's HSD test). Our first result confirms that learner-learner interactions can enhance performance. The second result shows that group sizes of four or five students have no implications on the results, hence instructors who may currently be hesitating between these two options may choose either size. Future studies may reveal whether differences exist between pairs, medium group sizes, or larger groups.

41. Representing nighttime and minimum conductance in CLM4.5: global hydrology and carbon sensitivity analysis using observational constraints

Abstract: The terrestrial biosphere regulates climate through carbon, water, and energy exchanges with the atmosphere. Land-surface models estimate plant transpiration, which is actively regulated by stomatal pores, and provide projections essential for understanding Earth's carbon and water resources. Empirical evidence from 204 species suggests that significant amounts of water are lost through leaves at night, though land-surface models typically reduce stomatal conductance to nearly zero at night. Here, we test the sensitivity of carbon and water budgets in a global land-surface model, the Community Land Model (CLM) version 4.5, to three different methods of incorporating observed nighttime stomatal conductance values. We find that our modifications increase transpiration by up to 5 % globally, reduce modeled available soil moisture by up to 50 % in semi-arid regions, and increase the importance of the land surface in modulating energy fluxes. Carbon gain declines by up to ∼ 4 % globally and > 25 % in semi-arid regions. We advocate for realistic constraints of minimum stomatal conductance in future climate simulations, and widespread field observations to improve parameterizations.
