1. Digital image correlation and infrared thermography data for seven unique geometries of 304L stainless steel

Abstract: Abstract Material Testing 2.0 (MT2.0) is a paradigm that advocates for the use of rich, full-field data, such as from digital image correlation and infrared thermography, for material identification. By employing heterogeneous, multi-axial data in conjunction with sophisticated inverse calibration techniques such as finite element model updating and the virtual fields method, MT2.0 aims to reduce the number of specimens needed for material identification and to increase confidence in the calibration results. To support continued development, improvement, and validation of such inverse methods—specifically for rate-dependent, temperature-dependent, and anisotropic metal plasticity models—we provide here a thorough experimental data set for 304L stainless steel sheet metal. The data set includes full-field displacement, strain, and temperature data for seven unique specimen geometries tested at different strain rates and in different material orientations. Commensurate extensometer strain data from tensile dog bones is provided as well for comparison. We believe this complete data set will be a valuable contribution to the experimental and computational mechanics communities, supporting continued advances in material identification methods.

2. Using synthetic case studies to explore the spread and calibration of ensemble atmospheric dispersion forecasts

Abstract: Ensemble predictions of atmospheric dispersion that account for the meteorological uncertainties in a weather forecast are constructed by propagating the individual members of an ensemble numerical weather prediction forecast through an atmospheric dispersion model. Two event scenarios involving hypothetical atmospheric releases are considered: a near-surface radiological release from a nuclear power plant accident and a large eruption of an Icelandic volcano releasing volcanic ash into the upper air. Simulations were run twice-daily in real time over a 4-month period to create a large dataset of cases for this study. The performance of the ensemble predictions is measured against retrospective simulations using a sequence of meteorological fields analysed against observations. The focus of this paper is on comparing the spread of the ensemble members against forecast errors and on the calibration of probabilistic forecasts derived from the ensemble distribution. Results show good overall performance by the dispersion ensembles in both studies but with simulations for the upper-air ash release generally performing better than those for the near-surface release of radiological material. The near-surface results demonstrate a sensitivity to the release location, with good performance in areas dominated by the synoptic-scale meteorology and generally poorer performance at some other sites where, we speculate, the global-scale meteorological ensemble used in this study has difficulty in adequately capturing the uncertainty from local- and regional-scale influences on the boundary layer. The ensemble tends to be under-spread, or over-confident, for the radiological case in general, especially at earlier forecast steps. The limited ensemble size of 18 members may also affect its ability to fully resolve peak values or adequately sample outlier regions. Probability forecasts of threshold exceedances show a reasonable degree of calibration, though the over-confident nature of the ensemble means that it tends to be too keen on using the extreme forecast probabilities. Ensemble forecasts for the volcanic ash study demonstrate an appropriate degree of spread and are generally well-calibrated, particularly for ash concentration forecasts in the troposphere. The ensemble is slightly over-spread, or under-confident, within the troposphere at the first output time step T + 6, thought to be attributable to a known deficiency in the ensemble perturbation scheme in use at the time of this study, but improves with probability forecasts becoming well-calibrated here by the end of the period. Conversely, an increasing tendency towards over-confident forecasts is seen in the stratosphere, which again mirrors an expectation for ensemble spread to fall away at higher altitudes in the meteorological ensemble. Results in the volcanic ash case are also broadly similar between the three different eruption scenarios considered in the study, suggesting that good ensemble performance might apply to a wide range of eruptions with different heights and mass eruption rates.

3. Assessing the value meteorological ensembles add to dispersion modelling using hypothetical releases

Abstract: Atmospheric dispersion model output is frequently used to provide advice to decision makers, for example, about the likely location of volcanic ash erupted from a volcano or the location of deposits of radioactive material released during a nuclear accident. Increasingly, scientists and decision makers are requesting information on the uncertainty of these dispersion model predictions. One source of uncertainty is in the meteorology used to drive the dispersion model, and in this study ensemble meteorology from the Met Office ensemble prediction system is used to provide meteorological uncertainty to dispersion model predictions. Two hypothetical scenarios, one volcanological and one radiological, are repeated every 12 h over a period of 4 months. The scenarios are simulated using ensemble meteorology and deterministic forecast meteorology and compared to output from simulations using analysis meteorology using the Brier skill score. Adopting the practice commonly used in evaluating numerical weather prediction (NWP) models where observations are sparse or non-existent, we consider output from simulations using analysis NWP data to be truth. The results show that on average the ensemble simulations perform better than the deterministic simulations, although not all individual ensemble simulations outperform their deterministic counterpart. The results also show that greater skill scores are achieved by the ensemble simulation for later time steps rather than earlier time steps. In addition there is a greater increase in skill score over time for deposition than for air concentration. For the volcanic ash scenarios it is shown that the performance of the ensemble at one flight level can be different to that at a different flight level; e.g. a negative skill score might be obtained for FL350-550 and a positive skill score for FL200-350. This study does not take into account any source term uncertainty, but it does take the first steps towards demonstrating the value of ensemble dispersion model predictions.

4. Urban Middle Schoolers' Opportunities to Belong Predict Fluctuations in Their Engagement across the School Day

Abstract: Existing measures of belonging in schools do not explicitly elevate the contextual and cultural insights of the educators and students they were designed to assess. Our study addresses this shortcoming through the co-creation of an Opportunities to Belong survey measure for urban middle schoolers. The tool was developed in partnership with practicing educators and normed around Black and Latinx students (N = 225). Results of a multilevel confirmatory factor analysis revealed strong evidence for single factor structure. A within-persons multilevel model revealed that shifts in opportunities to belong predicted fluctuations in student engagement across different academic courses. Implications are discussed.

Abstract: Criminal activity is seasonal, peaking in the summer and declining through the winter. We provide the first evidence that arrests of children and reported crimes involving children follow a different pattern: peaking during the school year and declining in the summer. We use a regression discontinuity design surrounding the exact start and end dates of the school year to show that this pattern is caused by school: children aged 10-17 are roughly 50% more likely to be involved in a reported crime during the beginning of the school year relative to the weeks before school begins. This sharp increase is driven by student-on-student crimes occurring in school and during school hours. We use the timing of these patterns and a seasonal adjustment to argue that school increases reported crime rates (and arrests) involving 10-17-year-old offenders by 47% (41%) annually relative to a counterfactual where crime rates follow typical seasonal patterns. School exacerbates preexisting sex-based and race-based inequality in reported crime and arrest rates, increasing both the Black-white and male-female gap in reported juvenile crime and arrest rates by more than 40%.

6. Non-Autistic Observers Both Detect and Demonstrate the Double Empathy Problem When Evaluating Interactions between Autistic and Non-Autistic Adults

Abstract: Consistent with a "double empathy" framework, autistic adults often experience better interaction with autistic compared with non-autistic partners. Here, we examined whether non-autistic observers detect differences in autistic interactions relative to non-autistic and mixed ones. Non-autistic adults (N = 102) rated the interaction quality and traits of 42 autistic and 44 non-autistic male participants interacting in same or mixed-neurotype dyads. Non-autistic interactions and participants were evaluated most positively, with participants rated more favorably when interacting with non-autistic partners and rated as less intelligent and awkward when interacting with autistic partners. Observers perceived mixed interactions as the least successful overall. Whereas non-autistic interactions were rated as smoother and more enjoyable than mixed interactions, they were not rated differently from autistic interactions on any measure of interaction quality. Observers also perceived that non-autistic participants but not autistic participants disclosed more to non-autistic partners. However, they evaluated autistic participants more negatively than their partners in the interaction evaluated them; they disproportionately underestimated trust and intelligence ratings made by autistic participants; and they and reported lower social interest in participants than did the autistic and non-autistic people in the interactions. Collectively, these findings indicate that non-autistic adults both detect and demonstrate the double empathy problem when observing social interactions involving autistic people.

Abstract: Abstract Background Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is a commonly used technology for studying the genetic basis of biological processes and it underpins the aspirations of precision medicine. However, there are significant challenges when dealing with NGS data. Firstly, a huge number of bioinformatics tools for a wide range of uses exist, therefore it is challenging to design an analysis pipeline. Secondly, NGS analysis is computationally intensive, requiring expensive infrastructure, and many medical and research centres do not have adequate high performance computing facilities and cloud computing is not always an option due to privacy and ownership issues. Finally, the interpretation of the results is not trivial and most available pipelines lack the utilities to favour this crucial step. Results We have therefore developed a fast and efficient bioinformatics pipeline that allows for the analysis of DNA sequencing data, while requiring little computational effort and memory usage. DNAscan can analyse a whole exome sequencing sample in 1 h and a 40x whole genome sequencing sample in 13 h, on a midrange computer. The pipeline can look for single nucleotide variants, small indels, structural variants, repeat expansions and viral genetic material (or any other organism). Its results are annotated using a customisable variety of databases and are available for an on-the-fly visualisation with a local deployment of the gene.iobio platform. DNAscan is implemented in Python. Its code and documentation are available on GitHub: https://github.com/KHP-Informatics/DNAscan. Instructions for an easy and fast deployment with Docker and Singularity are also provided on GitHub. Conclusions DNAscan is an extremely fast and computationally efficient pipeline for analysis, visualization and interpretation of NGS data. It is designed to provide a powerful and easy-to-use tool for applications in biomedical research and diagnostic medicine, at minimal computational cost. Its comprehensive approach will maximise the potential audience of users, bringing such analyses within the reach of non-specialist laboratories, and those from centres with limited funding available.

8. How Students Construct Sophisticated Differential Equations to Model Real-World Contexts

Abstract: Differential equations (DEs) are a powerful tool for modeling real-world contexts. Most research in this area has examined students' understanding and reasoning with pre-packaged DEs, with little attention being given to setting up sophisticated DEs to model complicated real-world situations. This study contributes through a collective case study on how individual students constructed DEs for various real-world systems, including a mechanical, a hydraulic, and an electrical system. We examined the students' readouts (how they "read" a context), their inferential nets (inferences across knowledge resources), and their strategies (what guided their work), according to coordination class theory. Our study contributes the foundation of a knowledge base in students' DE modeling that further research and teaching work can build on.

9. Observing Intellectual Need and Its Relationship with Undergraduate Students' Learning of Calculus

Abstract: The concept of intellectual need, which proposes that learning is the result of students wrestling with a problem that is unsolvable by their current knowledge, has been used in instructional design for many years. However, prior research has not described a way to empirically determine whether, and to what extent, students experience intellectual need. In this paper, we present a methodology for identifying students' intellectual need and report the results of a study that investigated students' reactions to intellectual need-provoking tasks in first-semester calculus classes. We also explore the relationship between intellectual need, affective need, and students' learning. Although the overall percentage of students who reported experiencing an intellectual need was low, we found positive associations between intellectual need and learning.

10. Student Self-Assessments and Personal Reflections after Taking a Family Life Education Methodology Course

Abstract: The senior-level capstone course, HDFS 442 Strategies of Family Life Education, in the Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) major at a small, private university in the Mid-Atlantic region meets the National Council on Family Relations' "family life education methodology" content area for this Certified Family Life Educator-approved program. It also serves as the writing-intensive capstone course in the HDFS major. In addition to providing the details of the course description, objectives, and assignments, the authors share feedback gleaned from student process papers collected at the end of the semester. Specifically, we highlight undergraduate students' reflections on the impact of the course on revelations about themselves and their role as family life educators.

11. Instruction, Identity, and Inclusivity: What Can Teacher Preparation Programs Learn from Gay Male Teachers in the South?

Abstract: Presently, there is a political attack on LGBTQ+ individuals, especially in southern states. In 2022, six southern states (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas) enacted laws that prohibit discussing LGBTQ+ students or issues within P-12 schools. These laws perpetuate heteronormativity and create intolerant and unsafe educational spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals, especially students. Teacher preparation programs must begin addressing the challenges these laws present to P-12 schools. Therefore, in this article, the author discusses a qualitative research study that examined southern gay male teachers' beliefs about the intersectionality of sexuality, gender identity, and pedagogy in secondary classrooms. The author utilized queer theory as the theoretical framework. For this discussion, three important themes emerged from the data analysis: instruction, identity, and inclusivity. The study utilized individual unstructured interviews, unstructured focus group interviews, classroom observations with field notes, and a research journal. The findings offer suggestions for teacher preparation programs to consider when preparing teacher candidates for the profession.

Abstract: Abstract Using pp collision data at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV, recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb −1, the forward-backward asymmetry in the pp → Z/γ * → μ + μ − process is measured. The measurement is carried out in ten intervals of the difference between the muon pseudorapidities, within a fiducial region covering dimuon masses between 66 and 116 GeV, muon pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5 and muon transverse momenta above 20 GeV. These forward-backward asymmetries are compared with predictions, at next-to-leading order in the strong and electroweak couplings. The measured effective leptonic weak mixing angle is sin 2 θ eff ℓ = 0.23147 ± 0.00044 ± 0.00005 ± 0.00023 , $$ {\sin}^2{\theta}_{\textrm{eff}}^{\ell }=0.23147\pm 0.00044\pm 0.00005\pm 0.00023, $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second arises from systematic uncertainties associated with the asymmetry measurement, and the third arises from uncertainties in the fit model used to extract sin 2 θ eff ℓ $$ {\sin}^2{\theta}_{\textrm{eff}}^{\ell } $$ from the asymmetry measurement. This result is based on an arithmetic average of results using the CT18, MSHT20, and NNPDF31 parameterisations of the proton internal structure, and is consistent with previous measurements and with predictions from the global electroweak fit.

13. Does word knowledge account for the effect of world knowledge on pronoun interpretation?

Abstract: To what extent can statistical language knowledge account for the effects of world knowledge in language comprehension? We address this question by focusing on a core aspect of language understanding: pronoun resolution. While existing studies suggest that comprehenders use world knowledge to resolve pronouns, the distributional hypothesis and its operationalization in large language models (LLMs) provide an alternative account of how purely linguistic information could drive apparent world knowledge effects. We addressed these confounds in two experiments. In Experiment 1, we found a strong effect of world knowledge plausibility (measured using a norming study) on responses to comprehension questions that probed pronoun interpretation. In experiment 2, participants were slower to read continuations that contradicted world knowledge-consistent interpretations of a pronoun, implying that comprehenders deploy world knowledge spontaneously. Both effects persisted when controlling for the predictions of GPT-3, an LLM, suggesting that pronoun interpretation is at least partly driven by knowledge about the world and not the word. We propose two potential mechanisms by which knowledge-driven pronoun resolution occurs, based on validation- and expectation-driven discourse processes. The results suggest that while distributional information may capture some aspects of world knowledge, human comprehenders likely draw on other sources unavailable to LLMs.

Abstract: Abstract: The radiative decays χc1(3872) → ψ(2S) γ and χc1(3872) → J/ψγ are used to probe the nature of the χc1(3872) state using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb −1. Using the B+ → χc1(3872)K+ decay, the χc1(3872) → ψ(2S) γ process is observed for the first time and the ratio of its partial width to that of the χc1(3872) → J/ψγ decay is measured to be Γ χ c 1 3872 → ψ 2 S γ Γ χ c 1 3872 → J / ψ γ = 1.67 ± 0.21 ± 0.12 ± 0.04 , $$ \frac{\Gamma_{\chi_{c1}(3872)\to \uppsi \left(2\textrm{S}\right)\gamma }}{\Gamma_{\chi_{c1}(3872)\to \textrm{J}/\uppsi \gamma }}=1.67\pm 0.21\pm 0.12\pm 0.04, $$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third is due to the uncertainties on the branching fractions of the ψ(2S) and J/ψ mesons. The measured ratio makes the interpretation of the χc1(3872) state as a pure D0 D ¯ ∗ 0 $$ {\overline{\textrm{D}}}^{\ast 0} $$ + D ¯ 0 $$ {\overline{\textrm{D}}}^0 $$ D*0 molecule questionable and strongly indicates a sizeable compact charmonium or tetraquark component within the χc1(3872) state.

Abstract: Abstract The decays of the χb1(1P), χb2(1P), χb1(2P) and χb2(2P) mesons into the Υ(1S)μ+μ − final state are observed with a high significance using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb −1. The newly observed decays together with the Υ(2S) → Υ(1S)π+π − and Υ(3S) → Υ(2S)π+π − decay modes are used for precision measurements of the mass and mass splittings for the hidden-beauty states.

16. The Academic Origins of Economics Faculty

Abstract: In this article, the authors document the educational pedigrees of faculty at the top 96 economics programs in the United States. They use roster data of 96 top U.S. economics departments to provide a comprehensive update and expansion on data regarding the academic origins--both undergraduate and doctoral--of tenure-track faculty. Nearly 60 percent of their sample attended a top-15 university for their PhD; over a third attended a top-6 university for their PhD; the mean (median) ranking of faculty doctoral alma maters is 15 (10). The authors also find that over a third of faculty with U.S. undergraduate degrees received them at a top-15 university.

17. Looking Back, Moving Forward, and Everything in between: Revisiting Student Development's Relevance and Enduring Concepts

Abstract: The study of student development has long been considered a cornerstone of the higher education and student affairs (HESA) profession. However, perspectives on what constitutes student development have evolved as scholars continuously embrace more critical frameworks to implicate systems of power and oppression--what scholars have termed the third wave of student development. And yet, questions abound about which concepts are still relevant for contemporary college student populations and which no longer endure. In this paper, we take up this concern, together with analyzing the centrality of student development theory in the HESA profession. First, we revisit past and emerging understandings of student development, providing insights on how the profession must shift previously held ideas and embrace constructs that remain core to this area of study. Second, we consider what these perspectives on student development mean for teaching and practice, especially given the present sociopolitical context. We conclude with a call to (re)establish critical views on student development as a foundation of the HESA field.

18. How Students Understand Graphical Patterns: Fine-Grained, Intuitive Knowledge Used in Graphical Thinking

Abstract: Engaging in the construction and interpretation of graphs is a complex process involving concerted activation of context-specific cognitive resources. As students engage in this process, they apply fine-grained, intuitive ideas to graphical patterns: graphical forms. Using data involving pairs of students constructing and interpreting graphs, we expand on the current knowledge base on graphical forms to contribute an empirically based catalog. We also situate our cognitively oriented work in relation to research that has emphasized (a) misconceptions and (b) social practices. In addition, we draw connections to the research on covariational reasoning. We end with implications regarding how graphical forms contribute to our understanding of students' graphical reasoning and how instructors can support students.

Abstract: Abstract A measurement of the transverse polarization of the Λ and Λ ¯ $$ \overline{\varLambda} $$ hyperons in pNe fixed-target collisions at s NN $$ \sqrt{{\textrm{s}}_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 68.4 GeV is presented using data collected by the LHCb detector. The polarization is studied using the decay Λ → pπ − together with its charge conjugated process, the integrated values measured are P Λ = 0.029 ± 0.019 stat ± 0.012 syst , P Λ ¯ = 0.003 ± 0.023 stat ± 0.014 syst . $$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}{P}_{\varLambda }=0.029\pm 0.019\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.012\left(\textrm{syst}\right),\\ {}{P}_{\overline{\varLambda}}=0.003\pm 0.023\left(\textrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.014\left(\textrm{syst}\right).\end{array}} $$ Furthermore, the results are shown as a function of the Feynman x variable, transverse momentum, pseudorapidity and rapidity of the hyperons, and are compared with previous measurements.

Abstract: Abstract A comprehensive study of the local and nonlocal amplitudes contributing to the decay B 0 → K *0(→ K + π − )μ + μ − is performed by analysing the phase-space distribution of the decay products. The analysis is based on pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4 fb −1 collected by the LHCb experiment. This measurement employs for the first time a model of both one-particle and two-particle nonlocal amplitudes, and utilises the complete dimuon mass spectrum without any veto regions around the narrow charmonium resonances. In this way it is possible to explicitly isolate the local and nonlocal contributions and capture the interference between them. The results show that interference with nonlocal contributions, although larger than predicted, only has a minor impact on the Wilson Coefficients determined from the fit to the data. For the local contributions, the Wilson Coefficient C 9 $$ {\mathcal{C}}_9 $$ , responsible for vector dimuon currents, exhibits a 2.1σ deviation from the Standard Model expectation. The Wilson Coefficients C 10 $$ {\mathcal{C}}_{10} $$ , C 9 ′ $$ {\mathcal{C}}_9^{\prime } $$ and C 10 ′ $$ {\mathcal{C}}_{10}^{\prime } $$ are all in better agreement than C 9 $$ {\mathcal{C}}_9 $$ with the Standard Model and the global significance is at the level of 1.5σ. The model used also accounts for nonlocal contributions from B 0 → K *0[τ + τ − → μ + μ − ] rescattering, resulting in the first direct measurement of the bsττ vector effective-coupling C 9 τ $$ {\mathcal{C}}_{9\tau } $$ .

Abstract: Abstract The decays of the B + meson to the final state D ∗ − D s + π + $$ {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{+}{\pi}^{+} $$ are studied in proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 9 fb −1. The ratio of branching fractions of the B + → D ∗ − D s + π + $$ {B}^{+}\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{+}{\pi}^{+} $$ and B 0 → D ∗ − D s + $$ {B}^0\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{+} $$ decays is measured to be 0.173 ± 0.006 ± 0.010, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Using partially reconstructed D s ∗ + → D s + γ $$ {D}_s^{\ast +}\to {D}_s^{+}\gamma $$ and D s + π 0 $$ {D}_s^{+}{\pi}^0 $$ decays, the ratio of branching fractions between the B + → D ∗ − D s ∗ + π + $$ {B}^{+}\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{\ast +}{\pi}^{+} $$ and B + → D ∗ − D s + π + $$ {B}^{+}\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{+}{\pi}^{+} $$ decays is determined as 1.31 ± 0.07 ± 0.14. An amplitude analysis of the B + → D ∗ − D s + π + $$ {B}^{+}\to {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{+}{\pi}^{+} $$ decay is performed for the first time, revealing dominant contributions from known excited charm resonances decaying to the D *− π + final state. No significant evidence of exotic contributions in the D s + π + $$ {D}_s^{+}{\pi}^{+} $$ or D ∗ − D s + $$ {D}^{\ast -}{D}_s^{+} $$ channels is found. The fit fraction of the scalar state T c s ¯ 0 ∗ 2900 + + $$ {T}_{c\overline{s}0}^{\ast }{(2900)}^{++} $$ observed in the B + → D − D s + π + $$ {B}^{+}\to {D}^{-}{D}_s^{+}{\pi}^{+} $$ decay is determined to be less than 2.3% at a 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract A search for radiative decay of B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ mesons to orbitally excited K + K − states is performed using proton proton collisions recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb −1. The dikaon spectrum in the mass range m KK < 2400 MeV/c 2 is dominated by the ϕ(1020) resonance that accounts for almost 70% of the decay rate. Considering the possible contributions of f 2(1270), f 2 ′ $$ {f}_2^{\prime } $$ (1525) and f 2(2010) meson states, the overall tensor contribution to the amplitude is measured to be F f 2 = 16.8 ± 0.5 stat . ± 0.7 syst . % , $$ {\mathcal{F}}_{\left\{{f}_2\right\}}=16.8\pm 0.5\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.7\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\%, $$ mostly dominated by the f 2 ′ $$ {f}_2^{\prime } $$ (1525) state. Several statistically equivalent solutions are obtained for the detailed resonant structure depending on whether the smaller amplitudes interfere destructively or constructively with the dominant amplitude. The preferred solution that corresponds to the lowest values of the fit fractions along with constructive interference leads to the relative branching ratio measurement B B s 0 → f 2 ′ γ B B s 0 → ϕγ = 19.4 − 0.8 + 0.9 stat . − 0.5 + 1.4 syst . ± 0.5 B % , $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {f}_2^{\prime}\gamma \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to \phi \gamma \right)}={19.4}_{-0.8}^{+0.9}{\left(\textrm{stat}.\right)}_{-0.5}^{+1.4}\left(\textrm{syst}.\right)\pm 0.5\left(\mathcal{B}\right)\%, $$ where the last uncertainty is due to the ratio of measured branching fractions to the K + K − final state. This result represents the first observation of the radiative B s 0 → f 2 ′ 1525 γ $$ {B}_s^0\to {f}_2^{\prime }(1525)\gamma $$ decay, which is the second radiative transition observed in the B s 0 $$ {B}_s^0 $$ sector.

Abstract: Abstract Decays of Ξ b − $$ {\Xi}_b^{-} $$ and Ω b − $$ {\Omega}_b^{-} $$ baryons to Λ c + h − h ′ − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}{h}^{-}{h}^{\prime -} $$ final states, with h − h ′− being π − π − , K − π − and K − K − meson pairs, are searched for using data collected with the LHCb detector. The data sample studied corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb −1 of pp collisions collected at centre-of-mass energies s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 7, 8 and 13 TeV. The products of the relative branching fractions and fragmentation fractions for each signal mode, relative to the B − → Λ c + p ¯ π − $$ {B}^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}\overline{p}{\pi}^{-} $$ mode, are measured, with Ξ b − → Λ c + K − π − $$ {\Xi}_b^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{-} $$ , Ξ b − → Λ c + K − K − $$ {\Xi}_b^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}{K}^{-}{K}^{-} $$ and Ω b − → Λ c + K − K − $$ {\varOmega}_b^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}{K}^{-}{K}^{-} $$ decays being observed at over 5 σ significance. The Ξ b − → Λ c + K − π − $$ {\Xi}_b^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{-} $$ mode is also used to measure the Ξ b − $$ {\Xi}_b^{-} $$ production asymmetry, which is found to be consistent with zero. In addition, the B − → Λ c + p ¯ K − $$ {B}^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}\overline{p}{K}^{-} $$ decay is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured relative to that of the B − → Λ c + p ¯ π − $$ {B}^{-}\to {\Lambda}_c^{+}\overline{p}{\pi}^{-} $$ mode.

Abstract: Background & Aims: The dynamics of HBV viral load (VL) in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) on nucleos(t)ide analogue (NA) treatment and its relationship with liver disease are poorly understood. We aimed to study longitudinal VL patterns and their associations with CHB clinical outcomes. Methods: Utilising large scale, routinely collected electronic health records from six centres in England, collated by the National Institute for Health and Care Research Health Informatics Collaborative (NIHR HIC), we applied latent class mixed models to investigate VL trajectory patterns in adults receiving NA treatment. We assessed associations of VL trajectory with alanine transaminase, and with liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. Results: We retrieved data from 1,885 adults on NA treatment (median follow-up 6.2 years, IQR 3.7–9.3 years), with 21,691 VL measurements (median 10 per patient, IQR 5–17). Five VL classes were identified from the derivation cohort (n = 1,367, discrimination: 0.93, entropy: 0.90): class 1 ‘long term suppression’ (n = 827, 60.5%), class 2 ‘timely virological suppression’ (n = 254, 18.6%), class 3 ‘persistent moderate viraemia’ (n = 140, 10.2%), class 4 ‘persistent high-level viraemia’ (n = 44, 3.2%), and class 5 ‘slow virological suppression’ (n = 102, 7.5%). The model demonstrated a discrimination of 0.93 and entropy of 0.88 for the validation cohort (n = 518). Abstract: In schools, a Code Red alert indicates a potential or immediate threat within a building or on a campus and is the signal for a full-scale lockdown of all classrooms. This book, "Code Red: Conversations and Solutions for an Educational System in Crisis," presents a variety of voices from teachers, administrators, teacher preparation faculty, college supervisors, and pre-service teacher candidates. These voices are crying "Code Red" because they want a broken system repaired. For them, the system is bleeding, cancerous, and in turmoil, with the expectation that they work under arduous and often dangerous conditions; teachers are underpaid, devalued, exhausted, voiceless, and abused. They face an environment in which politics has replaced learning, students are failing and, in extreme circumstances, walking away from schools or even committing suicide. The political discourse is wrestling control from teachers in certain states. Neurodivergent students are being pushed aside. The altruistic profession of teaching is being reduced to factory work, in which teachers--especially those in their first five years of service--are leaving the profession at staggering rates. The profession itself is at risk of becoming obsolete. The contributors to Code Red believe that the American educational system has entered a moment of crisis. Their voices need to be heard, and their stories and lived experiences should be recognized. The adage is true: the answer to any problem resides with those who own the problem. We cannot create solutions without owning that these issues exist, and all of America owns the education of our children. Therefore, this book provides a dialogic space where everyone involved in the American educational system can reimagine the possibilities of our system and, through this process, begin creating positive and sustainable changes to bring our system out of crisis. In addition to providing a vivid picture of the current state of public schools, the book offers real solutions that can be used to produce healthier, more successful classrooms. It is an invaluable tool for instructors, pre-service teachers, and Colleges of Education administrators.

Abstract: Background The metabolic syndrome phenotype of individuals with obesity is characterized by elevated levels of triglyceride‐rich lipoproteins and remnant particles, which have been shown to be significantly atherogenic. Understanding the association between adipokines, endogenous hormones produced by adipose tissue, and remnant cholesterol (RC) would give insight into the link between obesity and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Methods and Results We studied 1791 MESA (Multi‐Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) participants who took part in an ancillary study on body composition with adipokine levels measured (leptin, adiponectin, and resistin) at either visit 2 or visit 3. RC was calculated as non–high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol minus low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, measured at the same visit as the adipokines, as well as subsequent visits 4 through 6. Multivariable‐adjusted linear mixed‐effects models were used to assess the cross‐sectional and longitudinal associations between adipokines and log‐transformed levels of RC. Mean±SD age was 64.5±9.6 years; mean±SD body mass index was 29.9±5.0 kg/m2; and 52.0% were women. In fully adjusted cross‐sectional models that included body mass index, diabetes, low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol, and lipid‐lowering therapy, for each 1‐unit increment in adiponectin, there was 14.6% (95% CI, 12.2–16.9) lower RC. With each 1‐unit increment in leptin and resistin, there was 4.8% (95% CI, 2.7–7.0) and 4.0% (95% CI, 0.2–8.1) higher RC, respectively. Lower adiponectin and higher leptin were also associated with longitudinal increases in RC levels over median follow‐up of 5 (interquartile range, 4–8) years. Conclusions Lower adiponectin and higher leptin levels were independently associated with higher levels of RC at baseline and longitudinal RC increase, even after accounting for body mass index and low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol.
