Chronic hepatitis B is caused by a persistent form of hepatitis B virus, covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA). Stability of cccDNA is associated with intracellular localization of cccDNA and formation of minichromosome, regulated by epigenetic mechanisms. One of the key mechanisms in epigenetics is methylation of DNA on CpG islands. Expression levels of DNA-methyltransferases (DNMTs) in chronic hepatitis B patients were shown to be upregulated. Nevertheless, the role of DNMTs in the life cycle of HBV and their effects on the cell remain elusive. In this review, we discuss latest achievements on the role of DNMTs in chronic hepatitis B and HBV in vitro models.

4. Main etiological factors and comorbid pathology in severe cerebral palsy

Introduction The largest number of factors contributing to the development of cerebral palsy (CP) relate to the pre- and intranatal periods. Premature birth and low birth weight are the most important predictors of cerebral palsy and are associated with persistent brain and motor disorders. Purpose To evaluate the main etiological factors of severe cerebral palsy and comorbid pathology in children with severe motor disorders. Material and methods A retrospective observational study included 170 patients with severe forms of cerebral palsy, divided into two groups (85 subjects each) depending on motor disorders: GMFCS IV, GMFCS V. Perinatal risk factors for severe cerebral palsy were assessed, correlations between perinatal risk factors for expressed movement disorders and height/weight indicators, comorbid pathology in children at the time of admission to the trauma and orthopaedic hospital. Results Prenatal risk factors were responsible for the development of cerebral palsy in children in 71 % of cases. In the GMFCS IV group, gestational age had an inverse correlation with preterm birth (R = –0.53; R2 = 28 %). In the GMFCS V group, disorders caused by a shorter gestational age were interrelated with the duration of the antenatal period (R = –0.79; R2 = 62 %), and also directly correlated with delivery by cesarean section (R = 0.58; R2 = 34 %). Among the comorbid pathologies, eye diseases and psychological development disorders were most often detected. Discussion Low height/weight parameters of patients were due to comorbid pathology, rather than phenotypic constitutional features. Inverse correlation between the disorders caused by the gestational age, low birth weight and duration of pregnancy, risk of developing respiratory disorders, and a direct correlation with cesarean section seem logical. Severe conmobid diseases were more frequently diagnosed in patients with GMFCS V, indicating more extensive perinatal catastrophes in the central nervous system and the relationship between the developed pathology and severe motor disorders. Conclusions The main risk factors for the development of cerebral palsy in patients with severe GMFCS IV–V motor impairments are associated with the pre- and intranatal periods. Comorbid pathology of patients with severe forms of cerebral palsy is caused by severe brain damage and movement disorders that have developed against this background.

The review discusses the current state of affairs and prospects for the use of virtual reality (VR) technologies in visual rehabilitation strategies based on neuroplasticity activation. Vision training in VR has a number of advantages compared to traditional rehabilitation activities. Play-based VR exercises, practices in a safe and controlled environment, attract the users and encourage them to actively participate in therapy and comply with the treatment plan. VR systems have options that enable the creation of individual treatment programs tailored to the specific needs and abilities of each patient. VR systems are only beginning to be used in the rehabilitation of visually impaired but on the whole show promising results already. Yet, more careful evaluation of the results and additional research are required to overcome the existing limitations of the approach, such as a small size of the sample and lack of control groups. Objective diagnostic methods are needed to create a solid and high-quality evidence base. It seems promising to expand the potentials of VR technologies for visual rehabilitation of diverse retinal pathology patients by combining visual training in the virtual world with rhythmic photostimulation using optimal parameters of optical signals.

This paper presents the results of lithological and geophysical studies of the Vikulov Formation sediments, as well as cyclostratigraphic and facies analyses. The geophysical and seismic data have been linked to identify and trace the main isochronal levels of the Vikulov Formation sediments in different facies zones of the West Siberian palaeobasin. The detailed alignment of the reflecting boundaries with the boundaries of sedimentation cyclites made it possible to conduct facies modeling of five sedimentation units of the Vikulov Formation. The modelling results showed that the sediments of the Formation were formed in the conditions of the underwater part of the avandelta of a semi-isolated shallow marine basin. The change in the source area location during the sediments formation was reflected in the whimsical structure and distribution of sediments in the sedimentation basin. The lithological heterogeneity of the Vikulov formation deposits determines the differentiation of filtration and reservoir properties and oil saturation.

In recent years, invasions of aggressive alien species, such as a giant hogweed, have attracted the attention of many botanists. However, the response of individual plants to the presence of invaders has not been studied for most representatives of the cultivated and natural floras. The article presents the results of studying functional traits of the spring ephemeroid Corydalis nobilis when Heracleum sosnowskyi is introduced into experimental plots. Sharing a common locality with H. sosnowskyi causes a decrease in organic reserves of C. nobilis phytomass and reduced contribution of its leaves to the total mass of the aboveground parts of plants. We have revealed changes in the pigment complex of C. nobilis leaves, manifested as an increased content of the total chlorophyll in the beginning of the growing season. In the studied habitats, C. nobilis exhibits a competitive-ruderal life strategy. In general, H. sosnowskyi has an extremely adverse effect on C. nobilis and vitality of the latter.

It is believed that in degenerative diseases of the retina, photostimulation by fractal dynamics signals activates neuroplasticity, thereby increasing the efficiency of visual rehabilitation. Previously, we showed a positive effect of fractal phototherapy (FF) on the electroretinogram (ERG) of healthy rabbits and demonstrated the safety of long-term photostimulation courses for the retina. The purpose of this work is to study the effect of FF on the functional activity and morphology of the retina in rabbits with a model of retinal pathology. Material and methods. We modelled an atrophy of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) on both eyes of 50 rabbits. 30 days after the administration of bevacizumab, the animals were divided into two groups of 25 animals each. In the main group, photostimulation was performed using a device for FF, while in the control group incandescent lamps were used that create radiation of constant intensity. In both groups, 20-minute binocular light stimulation sessions were performed daily, five times a week. ERG and optical coherence tomography of the retina were performed before and after courses of treatment which lasted 1 week, 1 and 3 months. Results. Long-term courses of FF were shown to be safe for the morphology of the retina of animals with the RPE atrophy model. In all periods of observation, biochemical studies revealed no statistically significant changes in the content of norepinephrine and dopamine in the tear as compared with baseline values. In the main group, a slight positive effect of FF on rod and cone ERG was found after 5 FF sessions, while a significant increase in the amplitude of the transient and steady-state pattern-ERG (PERG), most pronounced after a 1-month FF course, was observed. Conclusions. A positive effect of FF on the functional activity of retinal ganglion cells (RGC) may suggest that prescribing a course of FF lasting up to 1 month (20 sessions) in diseases accompanied by a pathology of RGC is advisable, whereas for patients with a pathology of the macular region, such as AMD, an effective improvement in the activity of photoreceptors and bipolar cells could probably be achieved through a 1-week course of FF, conducted under the control of electroretinography.

While sleepiness assessment metrics were initially developed in medical research to study the effects of drugs on sleep, subjective sleepiness assessment is now widely used in both fundamental and applied studies. The Stanford Sleepiness Scale (SSS) and the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS) are often considered the gold standard in sleepiness research. However, only a few studies have applied both scales, and their convergence and specific features have not been sufficiently investigated. The present study aims to analyse the dynamics and convergence of subjective sleepiness as measured by the KSS and SSS in a population of adults. To achieve this, we present the Subjective Sleepiness Dynamics Dataset (SSDD), which collects evening and morning data on situational subjective sleepiness. A total of 208 adults participated in the experiment. Our findings suggest that sleepiness generally increased from the evening till night and was highest early in the morning. The SSS score appeared to be more sensitive to certain factors, such as the presence of a sleep disorder. The SSS and KSS scores strongly correlated with each other and converged on sleepiness assessment. However, the KSS showed a more even distribution of scores than the SSS. 14. Application of the Contemporary Psychometrics for Assessing Economic Literacy

Currently, new skills and various types of "new literacies" relevant to the modern world are becoming issues of growing importance. One of them is economic literacy; however, there are only few assessment instruments that fulfil the academic requirements for its assessment among university students. One of such internationally established instruments is the Test of Understanding in College Economics (TUCE), which is a popular tool in empirical studies of economic literacy in many countries around the world. Despite its advantages, the currently available version of the TUCE designed for American colleges back in 2006, is prone to cheating and provides limited opportunities for formative feedback. The purpose of this paper is to present the Updated Test of Understanding in College Economics (U-TUCE). In developing the U-TUCE, we utilized the capabilities of contemporary psychometrics, which offer sufficient advances in overcoming all limitations of the original TUCE mentioned before. First, we present a revised theoretical framework of the U-TUCE, highlighting that the test measures different types of mastery of economic literacy. Second, we describe the approaches used for modifying the TUCE items and developing new items. A half of the original test items have been replaced or redesigned to reflect the economic context that has changed since 2006. Third, we utilize the logic of automatic item generation algorithms to increaseg the level of test protection against cheating. We made all changes in such a way as to maintain comparability with the previous versions of the TUCE test if necessary. Finally, the use of the Item Response Theory (IRT) is paired up with that of Cognitive Diagnostic Modeling (CDM) to ensure the quality of the U-TUCE and enhance its formative value. We show that IRT can be used to estimate the construct as a whole (which is of interest to researchers, administrators, and policy makers), while CDM provides information relating to each of the construct components, which are of interest to educational practitioners and students themselves. The results of the data analyses show that the test can be used for both purposes simultaneously.

Diagnosis of specific T cell immunity to the antigenic determinants of SARS-CoV-2 in patients seems to be an increasingly important task due to accumulation of data about the role of T cell immune response in course of coronavirus infection and clearance of SARS-CoV-2 in case of secondary infection. Previously, we designed the recombinant CorD_PS antigen for evaluation of T cell antiviral immunity, containing conservative and immunogenic sequences of structural proteins of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. E. coli CorD_PS producing strain with stable expression of the recombinant CorD_PS antigen was obtained. Aim of the present work is to design a laboratory technology for the production of recombinant antigen CorD_PS, to control the quality of the obtained chimeric protein and to study its immunological activity. Development of the cultivation conditions for E. coli CorD_PS cells was carried out in conical flasks in LB-M_Km medium at 37 °C, then scaled in a fermenter with a volume of 30 liters. Expression was induced by the addition of IPTG. Expression was controlled in culture lysates in 12% SDS-PAGE. The resulting biomass was lysed using an ultrasonic disintegrator with followed by centrifugation. The compositions of lysing and solubilizing buffers were selected, as well as conditions for refolding of the recombinant protein. Cation exchange (SP-sepharose), hydrophobic (Butylsepharose) and exclusive (Sephacryl S-200 HR) chromatography were used sequentially to purify the dissolved protein. Protein impurities in the preparation were determined by reverse-phase HPLC and electrophoresis in 12% SDS-PAGE, residual lipopolysaccharides were determined using a gel-thrombin variant of the LAL test, residual proteins of the producer strain were determined by enzyme immunoassay, residual DNA of the producer strain was determined by binding with PicoGreen dye. Specificity was controlled by indirect enzyme immunoassay. The evaluation of cytokine production by CD4+T lymphocytes in response to their stimulation by recombinant antigen ex vivo was performed on a flow cytofluorimeter. The biomass yield during cultivation of E. coli CorD_PS in a 30L fermenter was up to 20 g/L for 4 hours of 0.1 mM IPTG induction. Sequential washing of inclusion bodies from bacterial cellular components and their subsequent solubilization in a buffer containing 8 M urea allowed to obtain a solution of denatured antigen with a concentration of 10 mg/mL. The efficiency of refolding by dilution was 75%. After three stages of chromatographic purification, protein samples with a concentration of 1.2-1.4 mg/mL, HPLC purity of 98.43%, corresponding to key quality parameters according to the OFS.1.7.1.0007.15, were obtained. The recombinant antigen showed specific binding to a sample of the First WHO International Standard and sample Company Reference Standard No. 3 of anti- SARS-CoV-2 human immunoglobulins in a specified concentration range. CD4+T lymphocytes effectively responded to recombinant antigen treatment by increasing IFNγ production. The optimal concentration of recombinant coronavirus antigen was 5 μg/mL. The developed technological process makes it possible to obtain 5-7 grams of coronavirus recombinant CorD_PS antigen in one cultivation cycle in 30 liters of fermentation medium with key quality parameters according to the OFS.1.7.1.0007.15. As a result of specific immunological activity studies of the recombinant coronavirus antigen CorD_PS, the concept of its possible use as a diagnostic tool for determining the formation of a T cell immune response was confirmed.

The article describes the results of lithological and petrophysical investigations that would be a base for characterization of reservoir rocks in Upper Cretaceous deposits. These investigations include thin sections description, SEM and NMR analysis. As found that three main factors have constrained final quality of reservoir rocks: 1) depositional settings favorable for coccoliths and chalk sedimentation; 2) late diagenesis changes – compaction and recrystallization degree; 3) fracture intensity.

Introduction. The vertical route of hepatitis B virus (HBV) transmission is a significant problem in African countries, which is characterized by late diagnosis of the disease and high mortality. The high prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Africa may be due to variability in the HBV preCore/Core region, mutations in which contribute to disease progression. Molecular genetic characterization of strains circulating among pregnant women may reflect the overall mutational profile of the pathogen in the population. The objective of this study was to analyze the variability of the HBV preCore/Core region circulating among pregnant women in the Republic of Guinea. Materials and methods. The study material included 480 plasma samples obtained from HBV-positive pregnant women from the Republic of Guinea. For all samples, the nucleotide sequences of the preCore/Core region of the HBV genome were sequenced and analyzed. Results. Amino acid variability in the preCore region was determined in 211 (43.96%), and in the Core region in 473 (98.54%) patients. 12 polymorphic sites of the preCore region were identified in which amino acid substitutions occurred, including 8, 2 and 5 positions identified for genotypes E, A and D, respectively. In the Core region, 67 substitution positions were identified, including 46 in samples of genotype E, 23 in HBV genotype A and 26 in genotype D. It was shown that the distribution of substitutions in the preCore and Core regions in HBV genotypes E, A and D differs significantly with a predominance in mutations among HBV genotype E — p 0.0001. Individual characteristic mutations have been identified for each genotype. The most common clinically significant mutations in the preCore/Core region in the study group were identified, including pc-H5D (27,08%), pc-W28* (35,21%), c-E64D (33,54%), c-L116I/V/G (91,46 %), c-T146N (73,13%). The double mutation A1762T/G1764A in the basal core promoter was shown in 74 samples of HBV genotype E, which accounted for 15.42% of the total group and 16.59% of patients with HBV genotype E. Conclusion. The frequency of clinically significant preCore/Core mutations among pregnant women in the Republic of Guinea was determined. The data obtained reflect their prevalence in the general population and can be used to predict the progression of chronic HBV among the region's population.

Aim. To present data from the AURA Registry (real-world data registry on AlbUminuRia detection rate among patients with previously undiAgnosed chronic kidney disease). It is important to perform population studies both to study the occurrence of markers (albuminuria (AU), decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR)) and the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD), which will provide information on the actual detection rate of CKD and the related markers in territories included in the registry of research centers.Material and methods. The article presents the first data from the AURA registry. Recruitment was carried out from March 6, 2023 to January 23, 2024. Thirty-four research centers in various federal districts of the Russian Federation and 104 doctors took part in the recruitment. We included 4580 subjects over the age of 40 years who had no previously established diagnosis of CKD and did not have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. During recruitment, the researchers were guided by the AURA study protocol (Version 1.7/12-26-2022).Results. AU more than 20 mg/g was detected in 64,9% of cases. At the same time, AU is more common at GFR values that may correspond to stage 3A of CKD. The rarer occurrence of AU in those examined with GFR >60 ml/min/1,73 m2 may be explained by less severe renal damage at this CKD stage. The incidence of AU was significantly higher in men, older people, smokers, people with metabolic syndrome, hypertension (HTN), prediabetes and overweight. The occurrence of AU also increased as HTN grade increased. AU detection rate was associated with hypertriglyceridemia, a high blood level of C-reactive protein, which is an integrative marker of inflammation that negatively affects cardiovascular risk.Conclusion. The presented first data from the AURA registry demonstrated the high AU prevalence in people over 40 years of age. A high incidence of AU was typical for patients with HTN, coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and prediabetes. An association has been demonstrated between the high incidence of AU and male sex, age, overweight, hyperuricemia, dyslipidemia, and a number of other cardiovascular risk factors.

The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of occult hepatitis B infection among blood donors in St. Petersburg, as well as to characterize the identified virus isolates. The study material was represented by 2800 blood plasma samples collected in 2019 from blood donors living in St. Petersburg. The ELISA study for HBV marker rate consisted of HBsAg, anti-HBs IgG, anti-HBcore IgG. HBV DNA was analyzed by nested PCR with real-time hybridization-fluorescence detection on three targets allowing to determine virus DNA at low viral load, including HBsAg-negative chronic hepatitis B. Hepatitis B serological markers were detected in 69.43% of those surveyed, HBsAg was found in 0.43% of individuals, and all of which donated blood first time. A significant excess of the anti-HBcore IgG antibodies occurrence among primary donors (15.1%) compared with repeated/regular donors (7.48%) was shown. The prevalence of virus DNA in the group was 3.14%, including 2.71% of cases in HBsAg-negative CHB. Based on phylogenetic analysis of 88 isolates, HBV subgenotypes were determined in the following order: D1 and D2, 40.91% each, D3 and A2, 9.09% each. While determining the serological subtype in detected isolates, the serotype ayw3 (52.27%) vs ayw2 (46.59%) and adw2 (10.23%) prevailed. Drug resistance mutations, including compensatory ones, were detected in six examined patients (6.82%). In all genotype D isolates, multiple amino acid substitutions were identified in the RT, SHB, MHB, LHB, and Core regions; mutations in the preCore region were detected in 21.59% samples. In the MHR of the HBV genotype D genome, twenty-six positions were identified in which amino acid substitutions occurred, and all isolates showed modifications at positions 113, 114, 131, 134, 159, 161, 168, in 76 — at position 122, in 68 — at position 127, in 36 — at position 118, in 24 — at position 128. In HBV A2 isolates, mutations T113S, S143T, Y161F were identified. Nine isolates in the preCore region showed a polymorphism including a stop codon W28*W; in five isolates the W28S substitution was shown in the same position, and the W28*S variant was found in one more sample. The high incidence of HBsAg-negative CHB cases among blood donors, as well as the predominance of HBV isolates that simultaneously carry mutations resulting in diagnostic failure of HBsAg tests and prophylactic failure of immunoglobulin or vaccines and virus reactivation, mutations that contribute to disease progression obviously pose a threat to health and require to be further examined.

Purpose of the study: to study the dynamics of developing herd immunity against SARS-CoV-2 in the population of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan during COVID-19. Materials and methods. The work was carried out using the methodology for assessing population immunity developed by Rospotrebnadzor (Russia) as well as the Ministry of Health (Kypgyzstan) and the St. Petersburg Pasteur Institute. The selection of participants was carried out by questionnaire using a cloud (Internet server) service. To monitor population immunity, a cohort of 2421 subjects was formed, who participated in all stages of seromonitoring. Volunteers were randomized according to age groups (1–17, 18–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, 70+ years), regional and professional factors. Antibodies (Abs) against SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (Nc) and the receptor binding domain (RBD) of S-glycoprotein were determined by qualitative and quantitative methods. The study was carried out in 3 stages according to a single scheme: 1st stage — 06/28–07/03/2021, 2nd — 21–25/02/2022 and 3rd — 31/10–04/11/2022. Since 2021, Kyrgyzstan has been vaccinating the population against SARS-CoV-2 mainly using inactivated whole-virion vaccines. Results. Population immunity against SARS-CoV-2 was predominantly accounted for by both Ab types (Nc+RBD+). By the 3rd stage, the percentage of such persons reached 99.2%, Nc–RBD– volunteers — up to 0.8%. At the 1st stage, middle-aged people dominated, but age differences were leveled out by the 2nd stage. The greatest impact on seroprevalence was found among medical workers, the smallest — among businessmen and industrial workers. Populational vaccination significantly impacted on the state of herd immunity that reached 25% by the 3rd stage. The refusals of the population in Kyrgyz Republic from vaccination noted at the 2nd and especially 3rd stages did not significantly affect level of herd immunity, which could probably be associated with asymptomatic cases of COVID-19, against which primary vaccination had a booster effect. Conclusion. The dynamics of population humoral immunity against SARS-CoV-2 included a number of changes in the level of circulating antibodies (Nc, RBD), caused by both primary infection and vaccination. The herd immunity formed in population of Kyrgyzstan allowed to reduce the incidence of COVID-19 to almost sporadic level.

Sulfated polysaccharides SpvF1, SpvF2, SpvF3, and SpvF4 from the brown alga S. vietnamense collected north of Hon Do (Nha Trang Bay, Vietnam) were isolated and studied. The structure of the obtained polysaccharide was studied using chemical methods and NMR spectroscopy. Fucoidans were low-sulfated (SpvF1, SpvF2) and medium-sulfated (SpvF3, SpvF4) heterogeneous polysaccharides. The molecular weight of the polysaccharides obtained was in the range of 16 to 44 kDa. All investigated fucoidans until 400 µg/mL were not cytotoxic for human colon carcinoma cells DLD-1, HCT-116, and HT-29 in vitro. Fucoidans SpvF1 and SpvF2 have inhibited the colony formation and growth of investigated cells from 20 to 30%. Fucoidans SpvF3 and SpvF4 have the strongest inhibitory effect for investigated cancer cells: from 40 to 50%.

28. The role of multifocal electroretinography in the preclinical diagnosis of tumor-associated distant maculopathy in small melanoma of the choroid of extramacular localization

To assess the role of multifocal electroretinography (mf-ERG) in preclinical diagnosis of tumor-associated distant maculopathy in small choroidal melanoma (CM) of extramacular localization.Material and methods. 35 patients (35 affected and 35 fellow eyes) with small CM of extramacular localization and 23 healthy volunteers (46 eyes) aged 59.67 ± 14.2 years were given general ophthalmological examinations and mf-ERG. Density (nV/deg2), culmination time of the P1 component and amplitude (μV) of the N1 component were measured for 5 response rings (R1–R5) at different distances from the fixation point: central hexagon R1: 2.3° (fovea zone); R2: 2.3–6.9° (parafovea); R3: 6.9–14.3° (perifovea); R4: 14.3–20.8° and R5: 20.8–29.9° (middle periphery areas of the retina).Results. Eyes affected by CM showed a decrease in the density of the P1 component in the R1 hexagon by 25.7% of the normal values (p = 0.03). The fellow eyes showed an increase in the density of the P1 component in the R2 ring (p < 0.05). The peak latency of the P1 component in the R1–R5 rings in the affected and fellow eye was found to elongate by 30–45% (p < 0.05). The amplitude of the N1 component in the central hexagon of CM-affected eyes increased by 12.96%, whilst in the R4–R5 rings it decreased by 36–45% as compared with healthy individuals (p < 0.05). The fellow eye showed supernormal values of the N1 amplitude in R1 and its suppression in R4 and R5 rings (p < 0.05).Conclusion. The mf-ERG method is useful for preclinical diagnosis of tumor-associated distant maculopathy in small CM of extramacular localization. Changes in mf-ERG of the fellow eye in patients with small CM have been documented.

In the first part of the review [ROJ, 2023; 16 (2): 160–2], we discussed the common and specific features of adaptive and non-adaptive retinal plasticity characteristic of glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, diabetic retinopathy, and retinopathy of prematurity. The presented part of the review discusses the issues of axon regeneration of retinal ganglion cells and analyzes therapeutic approaches aimed at maximizing the plasticity and stimulating the reparative potential of the retina. The protective effects of "conditioning" stimuli in the modifying treatment of retinal diseases are considered. Some of the present-day visual rehabilitation strategies based on visual perception training and visual fixation training using biofeedback systems are reported.

Background. The course of the COVID-19 epidemic process depends on population immunity which prevents pathogen spread. Aim: to study an evolution of SARS-CoV-2 humoral immunity in the Belarusian population rela- tive to COVID-19 pandemic dynamics. Materials and methods. The work was carried out according to a methodology for assessing herd immunity developed by Rospotrebnadzor (Russia) and the Belarusian Ministry of Health involving the St. Petersburg Pasteur Institute (SPPI) by taking into account the WHO recommendations. The study was approved by the Bioethics Committee of Belarus and the SPPI Bioethics Committee. Participant selection was carried out by ques- tionnaire using a cloud (internet server) service. To monitor herd immunity, a cohort of 4661 subjects (involved at all stages of seromonitoring) was formed from the total volunteer group. Study subjects were randomized into groups based on age (117, 1829, 3039, 4049, 5059, 6069, 70+ years), geographic region, and occupation. For the detection of antibodies (Abs) against SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (Nc) and S glycoprotein receptor-binding domain (RBD), rel- evant assay systems were used according to the manufacturers instructions. A four-stage study was conducted according to a unified scheme. Results. At stage 1 (pandemic month 15), herd immunity was mainly accounted for by Nc+RBD+ Ab status alone. By stage 2 (4 months later), its specific proportion decreased by 1.2-fold, whereas percentage of subjects solely bearing RBD-specific Abs increased by 1.7-fold. At stages 3 and 4 (9 and 19 months after the onset) vs. stage 2, percent- age of subjects with RBD+Nc decreased by 3.5%; the proportion of persons with Nc+RBD Abs increased by 1.5-fold. The most important contributor in herd immunity turned out to be due to population vaccination, with coverage reaching 70% by stage 4. Among vaccines, compared with whole-virion, inactivated BIBP-CorV vaccine the Sputnik V and Sputnik Light vector were used most often. Conclusion. The evolution of herd SARS-CoV-2 humoral immunity included a series of changes in circulating Ab levels (Nc, RBD). The hybrid immunity formed helped to reduce the incidence of COVID-19 to sporadic level.

Organic waste-to-energy (OWtE) technologies are playing a steadily increasing role in the Green Transition, thus becoming a powerful driver in the establishment of an ever more efficient and sustainable circular economy. The advantages of OWtE processes are well known: not only do they reduce the waste volumes sent to landfills or incineration plants, but also and foremost, through the energy they yield (biogenic carbon dioxide, amongst others), they reduce dependance on fossil fuels. This article gives a complete panorama of these technologies, starting from the classical methods and ending with a review of the latest modern novelties. Advantages and disadvantages of each method are highlighted, with particular focus on the formation of by-products and the relevant treatment aimed at preventing environmental pollution. Accordingly, modern techniques for increasing waste-to-energy efficiency and integrating the concept of circular economy and substitutability are analyzed from this perspective. Along with an analysis of modern scientific achievements in this area, practical examples of the implementation of technologies in European countries are given, with an emphasis on the obvious advantages, both economic and environmental.

Retinal structural plasticity is manifested in multiple damages of the retina. In many cases, the response to these damages is identical at both the cellular and molecular levels, involves similar sets of cellular signals, and is associated with a change in the structure of the retina and remodeling of the neural connections. The review discusses the common and specific features of adaptive and non-adaptive retinal plasticity, which characterize glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, diabetic retinopathy, and retinopathy of prematurity. Given the common features of neurodegeneration and retinal plasticity in brain and retinal diseases, similar therapeutic strategies can be used in many cases to preserve the structure connectivity and retinal function, which stop or slow down the clinical evolution of the disease by either suppressing primary events or enhancing compensatory and regenerative mechanisms in the nervous tissue. Part 2 of the review will present neuroplasticity-based modifying therapy methods for retinal degenerative diseases.

Background. The implementation of individual methods of high-tech medical care (HTMC) with methods of specialized medical care within the framework of a phased transition to payment methods by diagnostic-related groups (DRGs), on the one hand, significantly expanded the availability of HTMC methods for the population. Still, it created a situation with duplication of individual treatment methods in the list of HTMC types and DRGs. Amendments to the Order of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation (MH RF) of August 1, 2017 No. 484n, regulating the revision of HTMC types list in terms of excluding treatment methods and (or) HTMC types in case of their duplication in the context of HTMC groups and/or DRGs, marked the beginning of large-scale work in this area and required methodological ensuring the processes of forming HTMC types list, including in terms of its revision.Objective: development of a methodological approach to the formation of HTMC types list (using the example of the list for 2023). Material and methods. An analysis of legal documents regulating the HTMC availability in the Russian Federation was carried out, including the list of medical services approved by the Order of the MH RF of October 13, 2017 No. 804n, clinical recommendations for certain nosological entities, the International Classification of Diseases (10th revision), methodological recommendations on ways to pay for medical care at the expense of the compulsory health insurance (CHI) and appendices to them (decoders of DRGs for payment of medical care provided in inpatient and daytime hospital conditions), posted on the official website of the Federal CHI Fund. The frequency of the use of certain HTMC methods and DRGs was analyzed on the basis of impersonalized information from the database of registers of bills for specialized medical care, including HTMC for 2021–2022.Results. A methodological approach to the revision of HTMC types list was developed. It included its primary analysis, expert discussion of the obtained results, consideration by the Interdepartmental Council of the MH RF of proposals agreed with experts on each HTMC method submitted for discussion, followed by a decision on the appropriateness of the proposed changes, and recalculation of the standard of financial costs for HTMC and/or basic tariff for DRGs.Conclusion. The proposed methodological approach makes it possible to unify the process of revising the HTMC types list, including the exclusion of duplicate treatment methods and/or HTMC types in the sections of HTMC list types and/or in DRGs, as well as treatment methods missing in clinical recommendations, etc. in order to bring the HTMC types list in accordance with legal documents regulating the provision of medical care in the Russian Federation.

Relevance. Employees of medical organizations (MO), by virtue of their official duties, are at the group risk of morbidity of a new coronavirus infection.Aim. Evaluation of the manifestations of the COVID-19 epidemic process and the epidemiological effectiveness of the use of the Gam-Covid-Vac vaccine among employees of a multy-speciality medical organization.Materials and methods. The incidence of COVID-19 among the staff of MO was studied for the period from March 2020 to December 2021. The latent epidemic process was evaluated avccording to the results of routine serological examination of employees for antibodies of classes IgM and IgG to SARS-CoV-2. The epidemiological effectiveness of immunoprevention was determined by comparing the incidence with the coverage of employees who has a completed course of vaccination.Results. During the study period, 47.7% of employees of medical organizations had a clinically apparent form of COVID-19. In addition, according to the results of a routine serological examination, it turned out that 46.5% of employees had a subclinical form of infection. An increased level of morbidity was observed in the autumn period. The incidence of medical workers was in 2.2 times higher than other employees, medical staff of the hospital – in 1.7 times higher than polyclinics. The epidemic process was more intense in the group of nurses than doctors and junior medical staff. The epidemiological efficacy of the Gam-Covid-Vac during the first months of using vaccine has been established. Vaccinated people have a more mild course of COVID-19 in comparison with unvaccinated people.Conclusion. In this way, the main manifestations of the COVID-19 epidemic process in employees of a multy-speciality medical organization were identified and the epidemiological effectiveness of the Gam-Covid-Vac vaccine in the first months of using vaccine was established

In the ground sealed station crew, during the 8 months international experiment SIRIUS 20/21 simulating an interplanetary flight, electrically induced phosphene (EIP) thresholds, which reflected the electrical sensitivity (ES) of the retina, and the optic nerve. ES&L was assessed using the “ESOM” device (“Neuron”, Ufa, Russia) once a month, twice a day (morning/evening), under mesopic conditions. An increase in ES and other patterns of changes in ES&L parameters during period of isolation were established, reflecting the adaptation of the crew to the conditions of the experiment and the reaction of the visual system to physical and psycho-emotional stress. Further study of the thresholds of the EIP and L of the optic nerve in experiments of increasing duration will make it possible to determine the biomarkers that differentiate the individual adaptive reaction of astronauts from dysfunction of the retina and optic nerve under real space flight conditions. The L of the optic nerve showed greater resistance to experimental conditions than the ES of the retina. The results suggest that the determination of the L in the ES&L test can become an express test on board the ISS to assess the functional state of the papillomacular bundle of optic nerve fibers, the risk of developing or diagnosing SANS (flight-associated neuro-ocular syndrome) in long-term space missions.

The article evaluates the ecological status of five small lakes on Valaam Island (Igumenskoe, Chernoe, Ossievo, Nikonovskoe, Krestovoe) using macrophytes as bioindicators. The methods proposed by Finland, Sweden, and Norway were used, to assess the state of eutrophication, the change in the composition of specific species, the change in the water level, and the state of acidification, according to different indexes (Reference index (RI), Trophic Macrophyte Index (TMI), Trophic Index (TIc), the Proportion of Type– Specific Taxa (PTST), the Percent Model Affinity (PMA), Water level Index (WIc), and Acidification Index (SIc)). An analysis of the floristic composition for the period 2011 – 2020 was realized, including taxonomic analysis, ecogroup, and macrophyte diversity. The dominant taxon was Elodea canadensis Michx. in Igumenskoe, Chernoe, Ossievo lakes and Calla palustris L. in Nikonovskoe and Krestovoe lakes. The ecogroup hygrohelophyte was the most diverse in all lakes studied. The ecological status of the lakes according to each assessed parameter reflects that all lakes are characterized by a mesotrophic to eutrophic state, there is a variation in species composition of macrophyte and no water level change or acidification processes are presumed to occur in any of the lakes. In general, each method has its limitations, but it is suggested to continue studies for the RI, TMI, PTST, and PMA indices, and to integrate them with other national physicochemical or biological indices.

The article considers the problems of choosing the optimal management style of service teams and improving management personnel in the internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation. The aim of the research is to study the relationship between the management style and the socio-psychological climate in the team as the basis for the effectiveness of the operational and service activities of the Internal Affairs Bodies. The authors have summarized current scientific and practical research in the field of management style. The classical typology of management styles by K. Levin has been analyzed, which made it possible to develop the most effective leadership style in the internal affairs bodies, ensuring the achievement of the necessary results in the management of collectives. The theoretical material is supplemented with empirical data obtained in the course of annual studies of the socio-psychological climate in the teams of the territorial bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Opinion polls of police officers have showed that the highest degree of satisfaction with the service is experienced by those of them who work under the leadership of a democrat leader, focused not only on the performance, but also on creating favorable conditions for the activities of the entire team. The direct dependence of the socio-psychological climate on the management style chosen by the leader has been proved. It has been concluded that it is necessary to implement the mechanisms of the formation of an effective management style existing in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. For current leaders, it is advisable to envisage an in-depth study of the problem in the classroom for service training, for future leaders - as part of an additional professional program for professional retraining of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia included in the personnel reserve.

Electronic waste grows globally at a rate of 5% annually, which makes electronic waste recycling (WEEE recycling) an urgent task aimed at achieving (i) environmental protection and (ii) the preservation of mineral resources through the re-introduction of strategic metals into the market. As it turns out, WEEE recycling produces further waste, called WEEE secondary waste, which still contains valuable metals such as gold, silver, and copper. This study assessed the economic viability of recovering these metals and identified the most promising targets and approaches. WEEE secondary waste produced at a plant in southern Europe was sampled and examined for this purpose. The study methods included an ANOVA (analysis of variance) and an OCCP (orthogonal central composition plan). Over 90% gold, silver, and copper extraction was achieved with hydrochloric acid leaching in sodium hypochlorite with sodium chlorite as an oxidizing agent at 60 °C. The significance of the variation in the response for each factor, calculated using the Yates algorithm, demonstrates that by excluding sodium chloride and optimizing the doses of hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite, gold can be selectively recovered through the leaching process. The scenario of HCl (2.5M)/NaClO (5%) leaching results in the maximum extraction effect of Au (91.6%) at the lowest concentrations of Ag and Cu (37–44%).
