Abstract In this work we report the realization of the first low-threshold cryogenic detector that uses diamond as absorber for astroparticle physics applications. We tested two 0.175 g CVD diamond samples, each instrumented with a W-TES. The sensors showed transitions at about 25 mK. We present the performance of the diamond detectors and we highlight the best performing one, where we obtained an energy threshold as low as 16.8 eV. This promising result lays the foundation for the use of diamond for different fields of applications where low threshold and excellent energy resolution are required, as i.e. light dark matter searches and BSM physics with coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering.

Abstract CRESST is one of the most prominent direct detection experiments for dark matter particles with sub-GeV/c $$^2$$ 2 mass. One of the advantages of the CRESST experiment is the possibility to include a large variety of nuclides in the target material used to probe dark matter interactions. In this work, we discuss in particular the interactions of dark matter particles with protons and neutrons of $$^{6}$$ 6 Li. This is now possible thanks to new calculations on nuclear matrix elements of this specific isotope of Li. To show the potential of using this particular nuclide for probing dark matter interactions, we used the data collected previously by a CRESST prototype based on LiAlO $$_2$$ 2 and operated in an above ground test-facility at Max-Planck-Institut für Physik in Munich, Germany. In particular, the inclusion of $$^{6}$$ 6 Li in the limit calculation drastically improves the result obtained for spin-dependent interactions with neutrons in the whole mass range. The improvement is significant, greater than two order of magnitude for dark matter masses below 1 GeV/c $$^2$$ 2 , compared to the limit previously published with the same data.

Abstract LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above $${1.4 \times 10^{-48}}\, {\hbox {cm}}^{2}$$ 1.4 × 10 - 48 cm 2 for a WIMP mass of $${40}\, \hbox {GeV}/{\hbox {c}}^{2}$$ 40 GeV / c 2 and a $${1000}\, \hbox {days}$$ 1000 days exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large $${5.6}\, \hbox {t}$$ 5.6 t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented.

Abstract The manuscript summarizes the outcomes of a one-day conference by the South Asian College of American College of Clinical Pharmacology (SAC-ACCP) in July 2023, at Bhopal. The theme of the conference was "Advancing pediatric drug development in South Asia." SAC-ACCP organized this event in Bhopal to foster the discipline of clinical pharmacology and to motivate researchers and physicians in the in the central part of India. The conference featured presentations on regional approaches to pediatric drug development in Asia by pediatric scientific experts from the pharmaceutical industry, regulatory agencies, as well as independent consultancies. The speakers highlighted several important aspects of the evolving regulatory landscape in India and proposed numerous actionable steps in acceleration of pediatric drug development. This commentary provides insights from presentations and the panel discussion at this conference and also makes an attempt to connect to similar discussions that occurred at the SAC-ACCP drug development conference in 2017. Abstract A growing concern is that as local newspapers disappear, communities lose trusted gatekeepers and develop information voids, creating openings for misinformation to thrive. Previous work has not evaluated whether residents of news deserts have developed different information acquisition habits. We fill this gap by directly comparing information consumption and referral patterns inside and outside of news deserts in a novel dataset of engagement with online media by millions of users on the Edge browser. We find little evidence that those in news deserts consume more low-quality sites or are more likely to be referred to low-quality sites from search engines or social media. We find some evidence that those in news deserts do consume more national news than locations with local media outlets. These results contribute to our understanding of how the loss of local newspapers has impacted online information acquisition.

Children with early childhood caries (ECC) may develop caries in their developing permanent teeth also. The etiology of ECC is multifactorial. Amongst the common risk factors, maternal risk factors have been studied a lot and are considered as the risk of developing ECC in primary dentition till 71 months of age. There are various maternal factors that can influence the occurrence of ECC in children, such as the educational level of the mother, socioeconomic status, occupation, mother’s inappropriate feeding practices, frequency of maternal sugar consumption, her oral hygiene practices, and her dental treatment-related experiences. Mothers whether working or homemaker, number of siblings at home, type of family also influence the dental care toward her child suffering with ECC. Factors with economic problems in the family leads to familial stress resulting in maternal psychological distress, which is accompanied by throwing temperaments on her child and can lead to dysfunctional parenting behaviors, which is responsible for having ECC in her child.

Abstract Background Congenital shoulder dislocation due to shoulder girdle malformation is called true congenital shoulder dislocation. It is an extremely rare disorder as compared with traumatic dislocation or secondary to brachial plexus injury. Case presentation We report a case of atraumatic true congenital shoulder dislocation, one of the few reported cases across the world. The baby was born of a preterm caesarean section at 30 weeks of gestation, ruling out any perinatal trauma. The baby presented with a lateral shoulder crease and reduced movements of the affected upper limb. The diagnosis was confirmed with radiographs and a sonography that ruled out physeal injury. Treatment involved prompt closed reduction and stabilization by swathing in an adducted internally rotated position for two weeks. Conclusion Owing to the rarity of this condition, the case is being reported to be archived with a handful of other such cases.

Bowel obstruction is known to be caused by intussusception, which is far more common in pediatric patients. The majority of people with adult intussusception require a predisposing cause, which might be a benign lesion, a malignant lesion, or an irregularity of the intestinal wall such as inflammatory bowel disease. Adult intussusception is a very rare condition. We present the case of a patient presenting with upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and weakness. The patient had ongoing mild intermittent abdominal pain for months which was investigated with an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy that showed gastritis. There were features of peritonism on clinical examination and this was associated with raised inflammatory markers. A contrast-enhanced multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scan showed a long-segment telescoping of the ileum into the cecum with ascending colon with proximal bowel distension suggesting bowel obstruction: Ileocolic intussusception. The patient underwent emergency surgical resection with a double-barrel stoma. Histopathology assessment did not identify a causative factor for the intussusception. An uncommon instance of adult idiopathic enteroenteric intussusception is presented here. The diagnosis can be established with the use of the clinical history of chronic intermittent abdominal pain, entire abdomen ultrasonography, and abdomen MDCT. In patients who are unstable and exhibit indications of peritonitis, surgery remains the only choice, even though a more cautious strategy is outlined in the literature. Adult intussusception is a rare and challenging diagnosis to make. Individuals suffering from intussusception may experience prolonged bouts of sporadic abdominal pain that intensify suddenly as a result of acute obstruction. The most helpful investigative technique for confirming the intussusception diagnosis is CT.

Background: Myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) is a muscle pain disorder characterized by the presence of Myofascial Trigger Point (MTrP) within a taut band, local tenderness, referral of pain to a distant site, restricted range of motion, and autonomic phenomena. The upper trapezius is the muscle most often affected by MTrPs. Manual myofascial release (MFR) and Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) are techniques of soft tissue release that are used to resolve MPS. Fifty six percent of physiotherapists complain of pain in multiple areas due to the massage and manual therapy that they have to perform. Objective: The objective of this study is to find whether IASTM is better than manual MFR in treating patients with MPS in upper trapezius. Methods: This study was a single-blinded randomized controlled trial that included 31 participants, both males and females between the age groups of 18–50 years. Participants were randomly divided into two groups. Three sessions were given over a period of one week for both groups. Group A received IASTM along with conventional treatment and Group B received Manual MFR along with the conventional treatment. The outcome measures evaluated were pain, cervical range of motion, pain pressure threshold (PPT) of trigger points, and the neck disability index. Pre- and post-measurements were taken and the analysis was done. Results: Both the treatment methods significantly reduced pain, improved PPT, range of motion, and function. The effects between the groups showed that IASTM was significantly better than manual MFR to reduce pain. The improvement in PPT, range of motion and function were equal in both the groups. Conclusion: IASTM and manual MFR both are effective individually as treatment procedures for pain, PPT, range of motion, and function. Neither of the treatment options can be considered better that the other. The clinician can decide based on the availability of the instrument, training, patient’s preference, and his/her comfort whether which of the two treatment methods should be used.

ABSTRACT Background Salmonella spp., especially those are resistant to extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase (ESBL), are considered as major concern to global health due to their emergence and dissemination. Aim The aim of this study was to investigate the virulence and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profile of Salmonella spp. from migratory and captive wild birds. Method A total 262 faecal samples were collected, and the identification of Salmonella spp. was carried out using a standard culture and PCR as well as molecular detection of virulence and AMR genes. Results The overall prevalence of Salmonella was determined to be 30.92% (95% CI = 25.63–36.75). Migratory birds exhibited highest prevalence (38.10%), whereas wild birds in captivity showed a lower prevalence (23.40%). The agfA gene was detected at a higher rate at 24.69%. Salmonella spp. exhibited 100% resistance to tetracycline, followed by 58% ampicillin and 46% streptomycin. In addition, there was a resistance rate to ceftriaxone of 17% and to colistin sulphate of 25%. Interestingly, levofloxacin alone displayed 100% sensitivity across all isolates, while ciprofloxacin and azithromycin showed 73% and 64% sensitivity, respectively. The MAR index was 0.25 and 0.42, and 74.07% of all isolates showed multidrug resistance (MDR). It was shown that migratory and captive wild birds contained ESBL genes blaTEM (94.34% and 49.06%) and blaSHV (13.33% and 10%), respectively. Genes responsible for sulphonamide (sul1) resistance were detected in 13.33% and 79% of wild and migratory birds, respectively. Conclusion Salmonella has been found in captive wild and migratory birds and could act as reservoirs for the transmission of MDR and ESBL bacteria.

In today’s complex financial markets, “Algorithmic Trading” has become very important. The study delves into the amalgamation of four pivotal indicators - Relative Strength Index (RSI), Exponential Moving Average (EMA), Volume-Weighted Average Price (VWAP), and Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) Relative Strength Index (RSI), Exponential Moving Average (EMA), Volume-Weighted Average Price (VWAP), and Moving Average Convergence/Divergence (MACD) to create and develop a potent trading strategy. Through intensive backtesting and parameter tuning, our study demonstrates 60.63 % profitable trades on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), India, surpassing the standalone indicators. The Weapon Candle Strategy created using the four indicators presents its efficiency as it was able to achieve a profit factor of 1.882. This suggests that when these four technical indicators combined to make a strategy, it can provide significantly more accurate and reliable trading signals compared to using a combination of two or three indicators. Algorithmic traders should use a multi-indicator approach to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the market and make informed trading decisions.
