Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
A new method for the determination of environmental Gd by neutron transmission (NT) experiments is proposed. The NT method is based on the measurements of neutron spectra passing through a target. From the attenuation neutron spectra new data as concentration, width, resonance energies and cross section have been obtained., Comment: Romanian Reports in Physics 2014

The Energy-Length Rule implies the following properties for a transversal isolated system : on one side energy multiplied with zero component of x = both sign of ch, on the other side the sine of the p perpendicular to x, representing the helicity of the photon, is positive and negative. It corresponds to the sign of zero component of x, referring to the two cones which define respectively system and antisystem. The energy is obviously positive for both of them. Keeping p orthogonal to x implies right and left handed circular polarization simultaneously .Then in our interpretation the isolated real photon hides what we call the two monopoles. They are manifested in the real polarized photons being independent but united through their root as system and antisystem., Comment: 6 pages No figures

In this study, the nuclear process 64Zn(n, α)61Ni induced by fast neutrons in the 64Zn nucleus was investigated. With the authors' computer programs and Talys codes, cross-sections, angular correlations, and forward-backward asymmetry effects were investigated for incident neutrons with energies ranging from 0.5 MeV to 25 MeV. 61Ni cross-sections were determined through an investigation of nuclear reaction mechanisms (direct, compound, pre-equilibrium) and discrete and continuum states within the 61Ni residual nucleus. Our analysis of the neutron incident and alpha emergent channels included the extraction of optical potential parameters (with real and imaginary parts) with volume, surface, and spin-orbit components. The cross-sections calculated theoretically and found in our experiments confirm earlier published data. For neutrons with energies of a few MeV, the 64Zn(n, α)61Ni reaction produced by fast neutrons exhibits an unusual forward-backward asymmetry. At this energy, the observed effect cannot be explained by direct mechanisms with orders of magnitude lower; compound processes that predominate must be used. To understand the observed forward-backward asymmetry effect, the spectra of emitted alpha particles were modelled by the direct Monte Carlo method while taking into consideration the energy loss of alpha particles on Zn targets with finite dimensions.

Lorentz ordering (causality) implies the following rule: for any given energy p0 of a system there is a certain interval c0 on x0 so that their product is the Lorentz ordering constant L It means p0c0 = L. The constant L=hc. Hence Planck constant h in a similar way as c are both consequences of Lorentz metric. The basic ideas are: 1. Lorentz metric implies that x0 must represent a length like the other components of x in X 2. The dual metric space X* is well defined since the Lorentz metric tensor is not singular. The components of the vectors p in X*are interpreted as representing energy. The properties of the physical systems that are direct consequences of the detailed structure of X and X*, and so expressed through the Lorentz Limit L are presented.

A linear real 4-dimensional space structured by Lorentz metric implies six 2-dimensional singular subspaces and three independent 1-dimensional subspaces called radicals. If we consider meaningful to use them as representing six quarks and three gluons, respectively, then antiquarcs and antigluons are implicitly defined. Since Lorentz metric is not singular, the dual metric space of X denoted in general by X* is well defined and follow the structure of X. The peculiar properties of singular subspaces guaranty what we call confinement. For precision, we define first what means free system using the structure of X and X*and thereby how X are lodging six quarks and three gluons., Comment: 11 pages

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
Particle track reconstruction capabilities of the silicon tracking detector system have been studied. As the multiple Coulomb scattering (MCS) induces unavoidable uncertainties on the coordinate measurement, the corresponding error estimates and the associated correlations have been used to find the best track fit parameters and their errors. Finally it permits to find the proper particle characteristics, as vertex position and resolution, flight direction and the error., Comment: 12 pages, 4 Tables,(LaTex) and 4 Figures available upon request, IFA-HE-124-1994 June

history ,nationalism ,democracy ,competence-based teaching ,International relations ,JZ2-6530 - Abstract
As of 1989, Romania officially separated itself from communism, expressing its option for democracy. This meant a new change of paradigm, in which education for democracy and European values (Romania expressing its wish to join the European Union) were preferred to the old nationalistic point of view. The contents of the discipline switched to an integrated study of Romanian and universal (mainly European) history. This new approach encountered a great deal of obstacles, discussed in this paper. Another challenge which the study of history has been confronted with is that the outburst of new informational media, as well as the development of technology, has put classical education in a difficult position: in order to continue to fulfill its goals, it has to adjust to the new realities. The teaching of history is, therefore, confronted with a methodological dilemma: should it continue to offer students a series of undeniable truths which contribute to the development of civic and patriotic personalities or should the history class be seen as an environment of “daring”, of provocations in order to encourage the student to discover himself those aspects from the past that allow him to understand the present?

- Abstract
In this study photoactivation reaction cross-sections on natural Sn were evaluated in the GDR region for incident neutron energy up to some ten’s of MeV’s. For each Sn isotope, the contribution of the compound, direct and preequilibrium mechanisms were extracted. The cross-sections and isomer ratios were calculated. The results are compared with existing experimental data obtained by Bremsstrahlung source and activation methods. Theoretical evaluations of the photoactivation cross-sections obtained with Talys are in good agreement with existing experimental data. Taking into account the satisfactory description of experimental cross-section data, the isomer ratios for incident photons energy from the neutron threshold (8¸9 MeV) up to 36 MeV were calculated. If the isomer nuclei are obtained in final states then the isomer ratios were evaluated using the corresponding production cross-sections (sm, sg) in the exclusive (g, 1n) reactions. In the present work, the results of (g, n) reaction on 114Sn and 120Sn nuclei are analyzed.

Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
Fast neutron reactors, as a possible future solution on energy demand of human society, based on fission process of 238U, request new and reliable nuclear data necessary for new generation reactors design. Fission process induced by fast neutrons on 238U was investigated. Fission observables like cross sections and their uncertainties, fission fragment mass distribution, prompt neutrons emission, isomer ratios and other parameters were obtained by using Talys computer code or programs realized by authors. Then the production of isotopes like 135,133Xe, 99Mo, 131I, 89Y as well as yields of fissile nuclei were evaluated. Obtained theoretical evaluations are compared with existing experimental data.

Groundwater contaminated with arsenic poses several health risks to humans. It is necessary to monitor arsenic levels in water sources periodically. Microfluidics-based lab-on-a-chip systems are miniaturized, cost effective analytical tools that can be used to detect a variety of chemical and biological compounds. Herein, we report the development of a paper-based sensor using gold nanoparticles for the detection of arsenic levels as low as 5 ppb. The amount of colloidal solutions of gold nanoparticles required for analyzing a few microliters of samples is very low further reducing the costs. The limit of detection of arsenic was substantially extended in the study by capturing images after magnification via Foldscope, a pocket microscope. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Edible oils form an integral component in the human diet as well as in the industrial preparations. Any adulteration in oil is concerning from nutritional as well as economical perspective. Although analytical techniques exist for detection of adulterants in oil, most of them require sophisticated instruments, and trained professionals. Microfluidic based lab-on-a-chip technologies have rapidly progressed over the recent years and offer promising alternatives in this regard. In this work, we report development of a paper-based microfluidic lab-on-a-chip for detection of palm oil contamination in sunflower oil. We use the paper-based microfluidic colorimetric detection approach that indicates the presence of adulteration in a visual manner. The data is analyzed using digitally acquired images along with ultraviolet–visible spectrophotometry. The paper-based microfluidic device is fabricated and tested for 10–50% (v/v) palm oil adulteration in sunflower oil. Further, we employ the device for free fatty acid content tests in oil samples. Visual signal acquired from the device is optimized by varying phenolphthalein proportions. The stability of visual colorimetric signal is examined over time and is found to remain steady over the trial period of six days considered in this work. The integration of the detection device with smartphone imaging can prove to be useful for onsite data collection. We believe the approach presented here can be extended to food quality monitoring portable platforms.

- Abstract
Nuclear data obtained in the neutron induced fission of
232 Th nucleus are of great importance for advanced fast reactors based on Th fuel cycle. Fission cross sections, mass and charge distributions, prompt emission in fission including neutron multiplicities, yields and cross-sections of some isotopes of interest for applications, isomer ratios were obtained. This paper presents the theoretical predictions and the first results on232 Th(n,f) by applying Talys and the author's computer code for modeling of nuclear reaction mechanisms and the fission process. Theoretical evaluations of fission observables and produced isotopes are compared with existing experimental data and with similar data for neutrons induced fission of233 U nucleus. The present researches on232 Th(n,f) reaction are realized in the frame of nuclear data program running at Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) basic facilities, IREN, and MT-25 Microtron. The large time of life of $^{146} \mathrm{Sm}$ suggests the possibility to use this p - nuclide as astrophysical chronometer to study the geochemical galactic evolution. Due to the high temperature and large densities of gamma quanta, neutrons and protons in stellar environment $^{146} \mathrm{Sm}$ nucleus can be obtained in (γ,n), (n,2n), (p,2n) processes on $^{146} \mathrm{Sm}$ .The knowledge of corresponding cross sections of gamma rays, neutrons and alpha induced processes is of a great importance for the explanation of ($^{146} \mathrm{Sm}$ /$^{144} \mathrm{Sm}$ ) ratio uncertainties observed on the Earth, meteorites, Moon and other celestial bodies.Cross sections of (γ,n), (n,2n), (α,γ) processes induced by fast gamma rays, neutrons and alphas on $^{147} \mathrm{Sm}$ and $^{142} \mathrm{Nd}$ from threshold up to 25 MeV were evaluated and predicted in the frame of Hauser-Feshbach statistical model by using Talys software and the own computer programs. For each nuclear reaction contribution of direct, compound and pre-equilibrium mechanisms were determined. Theoretical evaluations are compared with existing experimental data. Parameters of optical potential in the incident and emergent channels and of nuclear densities were extracted. Calculated cross sections together with corresponding nuclear data were used in the evaluation of astrophysical rates necessary in the determination of elemental abundances as needed by nuclear astrophysical networks.

The fission process induced by gamma quanta up to 25 MeV energy on $^{238}$U was analyzed. Experimental observables as cross sections, fragments mass distribution yields of some nuclides of interest and average prompt neutrons multiplicity characterizing $^{238}$U photofission process were theoretically evaluated using TALYS 1.9 software. Theoretical evaluations of isomer ratios using Talys supplied by author’s own code as well as experimental isomer ratios obtained at MT - 25 Microtron are presented.

The large time of life of 146Sm suggests the possibility to use this p - nuclide as astrophysical chronometer to study the geochemical galactic evolution. Due to the high temperature and large densities of gamma quanta, neutrons and protons in stellar environment 146Sm nucleus can be obtained in (γ,n), (n,2n), (p,2n) processes on 147Sm.The knowledge of corresponding cross sections of gamma rays, neutrons and alpha induced processes is of a great importance for the explanation of (146Sm/144Sm) ratio uncertainties observed on the Earth, meteorites, Moon and other celestial bodies.Cross sections of (γ,n), (n,2n), (α,γ) processes induced by fast gamma rays, neutrons and alphas on 147Sm and 142Nd, from threshold up to 25 MeV were evaluated and predicted in the frame of Hauser-Feshbach statistical model by using Talys software and the own computer programs.
