Abstract: The structure of the S33 nucleus was investigated in the Mg24(N14,αp) fusion-evaporation reaction using a 40-MeV N14 beam. The level scheme was extended up to an excitation energy of 11.7 MeV and spin 19/2+. Lifetimes of the intermediate- and high-spin states have been investigated by the Doppler shift attenuation method. Data were compared with different shell-model calculations where effective interactions involving two main shells, the sd and the fp, are used.

Abstract: The neutron-rich nucleus \nucleus{200}{Pt} is investigated via in-beam \gamma-ray spectroscopy in order to study the shape evolution in the neutron-rich platinum isotopes towards the N = 126 shell closure. The two-neutron transfer reaction \nucleus{198}{Pt}(\nucleus{82}{Se}, \nucleus{80}{Se})\nucleus{200}{Pt} is used to populate excited states of \nucleus{200}{Pt}. The Advanced Gamma Ray Tracking Array (AGATA) demonstrator coupled with the PRISMA spectrometer detects \gamma rays coincident with the \nucleus{80}{Se} recoils, the binary partner of \nucleus{200}{Pt}. The binary partner method is applied to extract the \gamma-ray transitions and build the level scheme of \nucleus{200}{Pt}. The level at 1884\,keV reported by Yates et. al [Phys. Rev. C 37, 1889] was confirmed to be at 1882.1\,keV and assigned as the (6^+_1) state. An additional \gamma ray was found and it presumably de-excites the (8^+_1) state. The results are compared with state-of-the-art beyond mean-field calculations, performed for the even-even \nucleus{190-204}{Pt} isotopes, revealing that \nucleus{200}{Pt} marks the transition from the \gamma-unstable behaviour of lighter Pt nuclei towards a more spherical one when approaching the N=126 shell closure.

Abstract: We have investigated the ability of AGATA triple clusters to measure the linear polarization of gamma rays, exploiting the azimuthal-angle dependence of the Compton scattering differential cross section. To this aim, partially polarized gamma rays have been produced by Coulomb excitation of the first excited state of 104Pd and 108Pd, which decay to the ground state by emission of gamma rays of 555.8 keV and 433.9 keV, respectively. Pulse-shape analysis and gamma-ray tracking techniques have been used to determine the position and time sequence of the interaction points inside the germanium crystals. Anisotropies in the detection efficiency have been taken into account using 661.6 keV gammas from a 137Cs radioactive source. We obtain an average analyzing power of 0.451(34) at 433.9 keV and 0.484(24) at 555.8 keV.

Abstract: 1st NUBA International Conference on Nuclear Physics and Astrophysics -- SEP 14-21, 2014 -- Akdeniz Univ, Antalya, TURKEY, WOS: 000354773900036, High-spin states in Cl-36 were populated through the Mg-24(N-14,2p)Cl-36 reaction at E(N-14)=31 MeV. Lifetimes have been determined for fifteen states by applying the Doppler shift attenuation method. The results indicated the onset of collectivity in the high spin negative parity states. Large basis shell model calculations have been performed to understand the underlying structure of these states.

Abstract: Excited states up to I π = 8 + in the neutron-rich nucleus 58Cr have been identified by using a new experimental setup composed of the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer PRISMA and the highly efficient γ-detector array CLARA. Interestingly, the excitation energy sequence of the ground-state band follows the one expected by the E ( 5 ) dynamical symmetry for a nucleus at the critical point of the shape phase transition from a spherical vibrator ( U ( 5 ) ) to a γ-soft rotor ( O ( 6 ) ). For the first time, in the same physical system, large scale shell-model calculations in the full fp shell are compared to the E ( 5 ) analytical model results and to the Interacting Boson Model. The theoretical results are in excellent agreement with the present data.

Abstract: The reactions 16O(7Li, 2n) and 16O(7Li, np) populating 21Na and 21Ne have been studied at E L=27 MeV using the GASP γ-detector array. The level schemes for 21Na and 21Ne have been extended to higher spin. The population of the bands with K=3/2 and 1/2, forming parity doublets, are compared. Preferential E1 decay between bands of opposite parity is observed in agreement with the octupole scenario. The structure of these bands can be interpreted as consisting of an instrinsic asymmetric (4He + 16O) structure with octupole deformation.

Abstract: The even-even nucleus 126Ce was studied via in-beam -ray spectroscopy using the 40Ca + 92Mo reaction at 190 MeV. Five bands were observed, one of them being identified for the first time. New connecting transitions were identified between the bands, which lead to new spin assignments. The bands are discussed in the framework of the IBM + broken pairs model.

Abstract: The reactions 16O(7Li, 2n) and 16O(7Li, np) populating 21Na and 21Ne have been studied at EL = 27 MeV using the GASP γ-detector array. The level scheme for 21Na and 21Ne has been extended to higher excitation energy. Spins and parities of the observed levels are assigned tentatively supporting the identification of opposite parity structures connected by strong dipole transitions. The structure of these bands is interpreted as based on a reflection asymmetric cluster structure.

10. Sum-up and pile-up contribution to cross-over peaks in coincidence γ spectroscopy

Abstract: High-efficiency arrays for γ spectroscopy, now available in several Laboratories, make possible the measurement of very weak cross-over transitions of high potential interest. A limit to the measurement possibilities comes, however, from the simultaneous detection of two γ-rays of a stop-over cascade (or “sum-up”), which cannot be distinguished from the true detection of the cross-over transition. We propose a new method to measure (and correct for) the sum-up effect, which can be used with symmetric γ detector arrays (like GASP and GAMMASPHERE), and discuss the possible techniques for identifying and estimating quantitatively the contribution of random pile-up, which can be sizeable at high counting rate. These ideas have been experimented at GASP in a dedicated measurement with a radioactive source of 52 Mn . The results of this measurement are presented and discussed. Moreover, as a significant example, the method is applied to deduce the intensity of the E3 cross-over transition from the lowest 3− state of 148 Gd .

Abstract: The shape transition in the neutron-rich Os isotopes is studied by investigating the neutron-rich 196Os nucleus through in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy using a two-proton transfer reaction from a 198Pt target to a 82Se beam. The beam-like recoils were detected and identified with the large-acceptance magnetic spectrometer PRISMA, and the coincident γ rays were measured with the advanced gamma tracking array (AGATA) demonstrator. The de-excitation of the low-lying levels of the yrast-band of 196Os were identified for the first time. The results are compared with state-of-the-art beyond-mean-field calculations, performed for the even-even 188-198Os isotopes. The new results suggest a smooth transition in the Os isotopes from a more axial rotational behavior towards predominately vibrational nuclei through triaxial configurations. An almost perfect γ-unstable/triaxial rotor yrast band is predicted for 196Os which is in agreement with the experimentally measured excited states

Abstract: The nucleus 35S has been studied by in-beam ?-ray spectroscopy using the 24Mg(14N,3p) fusion-evaporation reaction at Elab=40 MeV. A level scheme extended up to J?=17/2+ at 8023 keV and J?=13/2- at 6352 keV has been established. Lifetimes of six excited states have been determined by applying the Doppler shift attenuation method. The experimental data have been compared with the results of large-scale shell model calculations performed using different effective interactions and model spaces allowing particle-hole excitations across the N=Z=20 shell gap. © 2014 American Physical Society.

Abstract: An angular correlation experiment was carried out for 33 S at Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro with the gamma-ray detector array GASP. The reaction used was 24Mg(14N,α p)33S at a beam energy of 40MeV. An analysis of DCO ratios and triple gamma coincidences was performed. So far, a new level depopulated by 3 γ -ray transitions has been found and its spin was determined. The work for further extension of the level scheme is in progress.

Abstract: The shape transition in the neutron-rich Os isotopes is studied by investigating the neutron-rich 196Os nucleus through in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy using a two-proton transfer reaction from a 198Pt target to a 82Se beam. The beam-like recoils were detected and identified with the large-acceptance magnetic spectrometer PRISMA, and the coincident γ rays were measured with the advanced gamma tracking array (AGATA) demonstrator. The de-excitation of the low-lying levels of the yrast-band of 196Os were identified for the first time. The results are compared with state-of-the-art beyond-mean-field calculations, performed for the even-even 188−198Os isotopes. The new results suggest a smooth transition in the Os isotopes from a more axial rotational behavior towards predominately vibrational nuclei through triaxial configurations. An almost perfect γ-unstable/triaxial rotor yrast band is predicted for 196Os which is in agreement with the experimentally measured excited states.

Abstract: High-spin states in the neutron-deficient nuclide I-111 have been populated with the fusion reaction Ni-58 + Ni-58 at a beam energy of 210 MeV, in an experiment performed at the Tandem Accelerator of the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro. The gamma spectrometer GASP was used in time coincidence with the ISIS Si-ball and the CAMEL recoil mass spectrometer for the positive identification of the nuclide. Gamma transitions and structure details previously attributed to I-111 by Other authors are only partially confirmed. The obtained level scheme includes new rotational bands and a new low lying structure which suggests the presence of octupole correlations at predicted rotational frequency values.

Abstract: The lifetime andthe γ-decay to the 0+ groundstate of the lowest 3− state in 148Gd has been determined. The reduced strength B(E3, 3− → 0+)=41 (6) W.u. agrees well with the theoretical value from empirical shell model calculations and can be directly compared with the 12+ → 9− two-octupole-phonon → one-octupole-phonon strength obtained in the same Recoil Distance Method lifetime measurement. The results of our search for a three octupole-phonon state built on the (νf 7/2) 6+ 2 state is also reported.

Abstract: The mean lives of the lowest 9- and 12+ states of146Sm have been measured by means of the RDM. Their (preliminary) values are τm(9-) = 0.97 ± 0.05 ns and τm(12+) = 15 ± 2 ps, respectively. The strengths of the collectiveE3 transitions of the 12+ → 9- → 6+ cascade are compared with the corresponding ones in148Gd.

Abstract: Following the commissioning of the PRISMA large-acceptance spectrometer, installed at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (LNL), an international nuclear-structure collaboration has started to develop a large γ-ray setup to be installed in the target position of the spectrometer. The array is based on the EUROBALL composite CLOVER detectors. In this contribution the CLOVER detector array is described and its expected performance figures discussed. This new setup, by using the high-intensity heavyion beams provided by the LNL ALPI linac, will push the study of nuclear structure towards moderately neutron-rich nuclei by means of quasi-elastic and deep inelastic reactions.

Abstract: The structure of Kr-72 has been investigated at GASP through the Ca-40(Ca-40,2 alpha) reaction at a beam energy of 160 MeV using the 4 pi ISIS Si-ball for reaction channel selection. The level scheme has been extended up to an excitation energy of approximate to 8.5 MeV. The spins and parities of the observed levels are assigned tentatively. The observed band shows the predicted change from oblate to prolate shape. The four quasi-particle g(9/2) alignment is found to be significantly delayed in rotational frequency with respect to the heavier Kr isotopes. Such a delay contradicts the predictions of standard mean-field calculations and may reflect either additional correlations in the T = 0 pairing channel or coupling to vibrational degrees of freedom or both. Abstract: The structure of theN=Z nuclei60Zn,62Ga,64Ge, and72Kr has been investigated at GASP. Total Routhian surface (TRS) calculations have been performed for theN=36, 38 and 40 Kr isotones. In the case of72Kr the four quasi-particleg9/2 alignment is observed to be significantly delayed in rotational frequency with respect to the heavier Kr isotopes. Such a delay contradicts the predictions of mean field calculations and may be viewed as the first sign of additional correlations in theT=0 pairing channel.

Abstract: International audience; The neutron-rich isotopes of tungsten, osmium and platinum have different shapes in their ground states and present also shape transitions phenomena. Spectroscopic information for these nuclei is scarce and often limited to the gamma rays from the decay of isomeric states. For the neutron-rich even-even osmium isotopes Os-194 and Os-198, a shape transition between a slightly prolate deformed to an oblate deformed ground state was deduced from the observed level schemes. For the even-even nucleus lying in between, Os-196, no gamma ray transition is known. In order to elucidate the shape transition and to test the nuclear models describing it, this region was investigated through gamma-ray spectroscopy using the AGATA demonstrator and the large acceptance heavy-ion spectrometer PRISMA at LNL, Italy. A two-nucleon transfer from a Pt-198 target to a stable Se-82 beam was utilized to populate medium-high spin states of Os-196. The analysis method and preliminary results, including the first life-time measurement of isomeric states with AGATA, are presented.

Abstract: High spin states up toJ=14 and excitation energy up toE *=3076 keV have been observed in the odd-odd nucleus100Tc with the reaction96Zr(7Li, 3n), at bombarding energies between 21 and 31 MeV, by in-beam γ spectroscopy and conversion-electron measurements. A ΔJ=1 negative parity band similar to that observed in theN=57 isotone102Rh, and based on the 8−, 708 keV state has been identified. The observed band can be interpreted in terms of collective core excitations based on a two-quasiparticle state of(πg9/2 ⊗ νh11/2) configuration. Comparison with IBFM-2 calculations have been performed.

Abstract: Evidence of collective octupole excitations built on spherical shell-model states is reported for the N=84 isotones $^{146}\mathrm{Sm}$ and $^{144}\mathrm{Nd}$. In particular, good candidates for double-octupole excitations, analog to the ${12}^{+}$ state at 3981 keV in $^{148}\mathrm{Gd}$, have been identified in both nuclei.

Abstract: Excited states of the $N=Z=33$ nucleus ${}^{66}$As have been populated in a fusion-evaporation reaction and studied using $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopic techniques. Special emphasis was put into the search for candidates for the $T=1$ states. A new 3${}^{+}$ isomer has been observed with a lifetime of 1.1(3) ns. This is believed to be the predicted oblate shape isomer. The excited levels are discussed in terms of the shell model and of the complex excited Vampir approaches. Coulomb energy differences are determined from the comparison of the $T=1$ states with their analog partners. The unusual behavior of the Coulomb energy differences in the $A=70$ mass region is explained through different shape components (oblate and prolate) within the members of the same isospin multiplets. This breaking of the isospin symmetry is attributed to the correlations induced by the Coulomb interaction.

Abstract: WOS: 000300864200005, The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) is a European project to develop and operate the next generation gamma-ray spectrometer. AGATA is based on the technique of gamma-ray energy tracking in electrically segmented high-purity germanium crystals. This technique requires the accurate determination of the energy, time and position of every interaction as a gamma ray deposits its energy within the detector volume. Reconstruction of the full interaction path results in a detector with very high efficiency and excellent spectral response. The realisation of gamma-ray tracking and AGATA is a result of many technical advances. These include the development of encapsulated highly segmented germanium detectors assembled in a triple cluster detector cryostat, an electronics system with fast digital sampling and a data acquisition system to process the data at a high rate. The full characterisation of the crystals was measured and compared with detector-response simulations. This enabled pulse-shape analysis algorithms, to extract energy, time and position, to be employed. In addition, tracking algorithms for event reconstruction were developed. The first phase of AGATA is now complete and operational in its first physics campaign. In the future AGATA will be moved between laboratories in Europe and operated in a series of campaigns to take advantage of the different beams and facilities available to maximise its science output. Abstract: Neutron-rich Co isotopes from N = 34 to 40 were studied through multinucleon transfer by bombarding a 238U target with a 460 MeV 70Zn beam at LNL. Gamma-recoil coincidences were recorded identifying the ions by a high-acceptance magnetic spectrometer (PRISMA) and detecting the gamma radiation by an array of HPGe clover detectors (CLARA). The results are discussed in comparison with the predictions of large-scale shell-model calculations.

Abstract: Excited states of the N=Z=33 nucleus 66As have been populated in a fusion-evaporation reaction and studied using γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. Special emphasis was put into the search for candidates for the T=1 states. A new 3+ isomer has been observed with a lifetime of 1.1(3) ns. This is believed to be the predicted oblate shape isomer. The excited levels are discussed in terms of the shell model and of the complex excited Vampir approaches. Coulomb energy differences are determined from the comparison of the T=1 states with their analog partners. The unusual behavior of the Coulomb energy differences in the A=70 mass region is explained through different shape components (oblate and prolate) within the members of the same isospin multiplets. This breaking of the isospin symmetry is attributed to the correlations induced by the Coulomb interaction.

Abstract: WOS: 000308129400006, Excited states up to J(pi) = 11(-) at 10 296 keV and J(pi) = 10(+) at 10 707 keV have been populated in the odd-odd Cl-36 nucleus using the Mg-24(N-14,2p) fusion-evaporation reaction at E-lab = 31 MeV. Twenty new states and 62 new gamma transitions have been identified by employing gamma-gamma and gamma-gamma-gamma coincidences. Lifetimes have been investigated by the Doppler shift attenuation method. Abstract: To investigate the possible X(5) character of {sup 122}Ba, suggested by the ground-state band energy pattern, the lifetimes of the lowest yrast states of {sup 122}Ba have been measured, via the recoil distance Doppler-shift method. The relevant levels have been populated by using the {sup 108}Cd({sup 16}O,2n){sup 122}Ba and the {sup 112}Sn({sup 13}C,3n){sup 122}Ba reactions. The B(E2) values deduced in the present work are compared to the predictions of the X(5) model and to calculations performed in the framework of the IBA-1 and IBA-2 models.

Abstract: Lifetimes of low-lying excited states of the neutron-rich $^{44,46}\mathrm{Ar}$ nuclei, populated via multinucleon transfer reactions, are measured by means of the differential recoil distance Doppler shift method. The extracted electromagnetic transition probabilities are compared with previous intermediate-energy Coulomb-excitation measurements and with large-scale shell-model calculations. The increase in the deduced $B$($E2;{2}^{+}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{0}^{+}$) transition probability from $^{44}\mathrm{Ar}$ to the closed-shell nucleus $^{46}\mathrm{Ar}$ contradicts the earlier results of Coulomb-excitation experiments. Shell-model calculations using different effective interactions agree with the new measured values.

Abstract: The model, introduced in a previous paper, for the description of the octupole and quadrupole degrees of freedom in conditions close to the axial symmetry is used to describe the negative-parity band based on the first octupole vibrational state in nuclei close to the critical point of the U(5)-to-SU(3) phase transition. The situation of {sup 150}Nd and {sup 152}Sm is discussed in detail. The positive-parity levels of these nuclei, and also the in-band E2 transitions, are reasonably accounted for by the X(5) model. With simple assumptions on the nature of the octupole vibrations, it is also possible to describe the negative-parity sector with comparable accuracy without changing the description of the positive-parity part.

Abstract: The transition strenghts for the low—lying levels of 122,124Ba have been determined analysing the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift data by the Differential Decay Curve Method. The trend of normalised B(E2) reveals a drop in correspondance of the 81+ state. This feature is also present in 122Ba: entering the backbending region the interplay between collective and quasiparticle degrees of freedom have to be carefully taken into account.

Abstract: The lifetimes of the first excited states of the Z=18, 44Ar and 46Ar isotopes have been determined using a novel technique that combines the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift method, with the CLARA-PRISMA spectrometers for Multinucleon Transfer Reactions. The B(E2) values extracted for the 2+ to 0+ transitions in both nuclei, as well as for higher excited states in 44Ar, are discussed and compared with the available experimental results and with the new large-scale shell-model calculations.

Abstract: Isospin symmetry breaking has been investigated in mass A=67 mirror nuclei through the experimental determination of the E1 strengths of analog electromagnetic transitions. Lifetimes of excited states have been measured in (67)Se and (67)As with the centroid shift method. Through the comparison of the B(E1) strengths of the mirror 9/2(+)--7/2(-) transitions, the isovector and the isoscalar components of the electromagnetic transition amplitude were extracted. The presence of a large isoscalar component provides evidence for coherent contributions to isospin mixing, probably involving the isovector giant monopole resonance.

Calculated energy spectra, electromagnetic moments, transition probabilities and spectroscopic factors for one-nucleon transfer reactions are compared with the corresponding experimental data.

Abstract: Conversion electrons,γ and X rays from102Rhm (6+,T 1/2=1057 d) have been studied. An electromagnetic branch (2.3±0.3) ·10−3 feeding the102Rh first excited state has been observed in the 6+ isomeric decay. The excitation energy of the 6+ isomer turns out to be 140.7 keV above the 2− ground state.

Abstract: The model, introduced in a previous paper, for the description of the octupole and quadrupole degrees of freedom in conditions close to axial symmetry, is applied to situations of shape phase transitions where the quadrupole amplitude can reach zero. The transitional nuclei $^{224,226}\mathrm{Ra}$ and $^{224}\mathrm{Th}$ are discussed in the frame of this model. Their level schemes can be reasonably accounted for by assuming a square-well potential in two dimensions. Electromagnetic transition amplitudes are also evaluated and compared with existing experimental data.

Abstract: The lifetimes of the first excited states of nuclei around the doubly‐magic nucleus 48Ca have been determined using a novel method that combines the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift (RDDS) method with the CLARA‐PRISMA spectrometers. This is the first time such a method is applied to measure lifetimes of neutron‐rich nuclei populated via a multinucleon transfer reaction. This novel method and some preliminary results on lifetimes are presented.

Abstract: Theg-factor of the 7+ state in100Rh withT1/2=140(5) ns and of the 6− state in104Rh withT1/2=47(3)ns has been measured by the time-differential perturbedγ-ray angular distribution method (TDPAD). The obtained values are +0.67(2) and +0.33(1) respectively. The two nuclei were populated with reactions induced by7Li on96,100Mo at a bombarding energy of 30 MeV. Shell model calculations using effective single particle moments show that the 7+ state in100Rh has mostly a πg9/2 ⊗ vd5/2 configuration, while the main component of the 6− state in104Rh is the πg9/2 ⊗ vh11/2.

Abstract: The electromagnetic decay properties of high-spin states in $^{52}\mathrm{Mn}$ have been studied through various experiments with the GASP and EUROBALL arrays plus the ISIS light charged-particle detector and the Neutron Wall. From \ensuremath{\gamma}-\ensuremath{\gamma} particles coincidence measurements, spins, and parities of these states and branching ratios of their decay \ensuremath{\gamma} rays have been determined. Using the Doppler-shift attenuation method the mean life of some states have been established. These results are compared with large-scale shell-model calculations in the full $\mathit{fp}$ shell.

Abstract: High-spin states in $^{35}\mathrm{Ar}$ and $^{35}\mathrm{Cl}$ have been populated in the $^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$($^{16}\mathrm{O}$, $\ensuremath{\alpha}n$) and $^{24}\mathrm{Mg}$($^{16}\mathrm{O}$, $\ensuremath{\alpha}p$) reactions, respectively, at a beam energy of 70 MeV. The comparison between the level schemes of these mirror nuclei shows a striking asymmetry in the population yield of high-spin analog states of positive parity, which indicates different intensities of $E1$ transitions connecting positive- and negative-parity structures in both nuclei. Large energy differences are observed between analog states of negative parity with configurations of dominant pure single-particle character. This results from the comparison with large-scale shell-model calculations in the ${s}_{1/2}{d}_{3/2}{f}_{7/2}{p}_{3/2}$ valence space. It is shown that important contributions to the energy differences arise from the multipole Coulomb and the relativistic electromagnetic spin-orbit interactions.
