Using the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), the gravitationally lensed rings around the supermassive black holes (SMBHs) in Messier 87 (M87) and Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) have now been successfully imaged at a resolution under 10 gravitational radii (R$_{\rm g}$ $ = \rm{GM/c^2}$). To expand studies beyond M87 and Sgr A*, we have constructed the Event Horizon and Environs (ETHER) sample, a comprehensive database encompassing approximately 3.15 million SMBH mass estimates, $\sim$ 20,000 Very-Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) radio flux densities, and $\sim$ 36,000 hard X-ray flux densities. This database is designed to identify and optimize target selection for the EHT and its upgrades on the ground and in space. We have identified a Gold Sample (GS) of nearby low-luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) within it that are ideal for studying jet bases and potentially imaging black hole shadows. We observed 27 of these AGNs using the EHT from 2022 to 2024, providing an opportunity to resolve and image accretion flows and jets at resolutions of $\leq$ 100 R$_{\rm g}$. Only a few SMBHs have sufficiently high enough flux density to be imaged at scales of $\leq$ 50 R$_{\rm g}$ with the present EHT. Among these are M87, Sgr A*, NGC4594 (Sombrero/M104), NGC4261, and NGC4374 (Messier 84/M84). Of these, NGC4261, Sombrero, and M84 have been observed and/or are scheduled for deep imaging with EHT+ALMA from 2023 to 2025. Sombrero, NGC4261, M84, NGC4278, and NGC5232 are clearly detected in our EHT+ALMA observations in 2022, indicating that the 230 GHz flux density from the accretion flows is significantly high. Monitored quantum circuits have attracted significant interest as an example of synthetic quantum matter, intrinsically defined by their quantum information content. Here, we propose a multipartite entanglement perspective on monitored phases through the lens of quantum Fisher information. Our findings reveal that unstructured monitored random circuits fail to exhibit divergent multipartite entanglement even at criticality, highlighting their departure from standard quantum critical behavior. However, we demonstrate that genuinely multipartite entangled phases can be realized through two-site measurements, provided a protection mechanism is in place. We used random forest algorithms to classify all objects in a large portion of the sky, using optical light curves obtained, or built from images provided, by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF). We compare different selection sets based on alerts or complete light curves derived from different photometric selection algorithms. The AGN candidates thus selected are cross-matched with objects in the NASA-Sloan Atlas (NSA) of local galaxies, with $M_*<2\times10^{10}M_\odot$. The AGN nature of these candidates is verified and characterized using archival optical spectra from SDSS. We further establish the fraction of candidates with counterparts in the eROSITA data release 1 catalog of X-ray sources. From an initial sample of 506 candidates, 415 have good-quality spectra. Among these 415 objects, we found significant broad Balmer lines in the spectra for $86\%$ (357) of the candidates. When considering BPT classifications, an additional 5 candidates were confirmed, resulting in $87\%$ (362) confirmed candidates. Specifically, broad Balmer lines were detected in $94\%$-$98\%$ of the AGN candidates selected from complete light curves and in $80\%$ of those selected from the less frequent ZTF alerts. The black hole masses estimated from the spectra range from $2.2\times10^6M_\odot$ to $4.2\times10^7M_\odot$, reaching lower values for the candidates selected using the more sensitive light curves. The black hole masses obtained cluster around $0.1\%$ of the stellar mass of the host from the NSA catalog. Two-thirds of the AGN candidates are classified as Seyfert or Composite by their narrow emission line ratios (BPT diagnostics) while the rest are star-forming. Almost all the candidates classified as Seyfert and over $50\%$ of those classified as star-forming have significant BELs. Exoplanet atmospheric modeling is advancing from chemically diverse one-dimensional (1D) models to three-dimensional (3D) global circulation models (GCMs), which are crucial for interpreting observations from facilities like the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). However, maintaining chemical diversity in models, especially in GCMs, is computationally expensive, limiting their complexity. Optimizing the number of reactions and species can address this tradeoff, but transparent and efficient methods for such optimization are lacking in current exoplanet literature. We aim to develop a systematic approach for reducing chemical networks in exoplanetary atmospheres while balancing accuracy and computational efficiency. Our data-driven method selects optimal reduced chemical networks based on accuracy and computational efficiency metrics. This approach can optimize networks for similar planets simultaneously, assign weights to prioritize accuracy or efficiency, and is applicable when including photochemistry. We base our method on sensitivity analysis of a typical 1D chemical kinetics model, applying principal component analysis to the sensitivities. To achieve fast and reliable network reduction, we utilize a genetic algorithm, a machine-learning optimization method that mimics natural selection. We present three schemes tailored for different priorities (accuracy, computational efficiency, and adaptability to photochemistry) that demonstrate improved performance and reduced computational costs. Our genetic algorithm-based method, the first to reduce a chemical network including photochemistry in exoplanet research, offers a versatile and efficient approach to enhance both accuracy and computational efficiency.

We present the first multi-band centimeter detection of POX 52, a nearby dwarf galaxy believed to habor a robust intermediate mass black hole (IMBH). We conducted the deep observations using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), spanning frequencies from 4.5 to 10 GHz, as well as the sensitive observations from the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) operating in its most extended A-configuration at S band (2--4 GHz) and C band (4--8 GHz). In the ATCA observations, the source shows a compact morphology, with only one direction marginally resolved. The higher resolution of the VLA allowed us to slightly resolve the source, fitting it well with a two-dimensional Gaussian model. The detected radio emission confirms the presence of Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) activity, indicating either a low-power jet or AGN-driven winds/outflows. Our dual-epoch observations with ATCA and VLA, together with previous non-detection flux density upper limits, reveal radio emission variability spanning two decades. In addition, we find that POX 52 aligns well with the low-mass extension of the fundamental plane for high-accretion, radio-quiet massive AGNs., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures, 1 table. In this paper we present mathematical analysis of one-dimensional effective models proposed in [\cite{MunozDelgado}] concerning Bose-Einstein condensates in the presence of harmonic confinement. Among the demonstrated properties, we can mention: existence, uniqueness, orbital stability, symmetry and gaussian asymptotic decay of ground-state solutions in the repulsive case. We also report formul\ae\ for the minimal energy $E_{\mn}$ and the associate chemical potential $\mu$ as functions of a parameter $\lambda$, which is related to $N$ (the number of atoms) and/or $a$ (the s-wave scattering length). In this work, we investigate head-on collisions of $\ell$-boson stars, potential candidates for dark matter compact objects. We begin with a review of the general properties and features of these stars, leveraging results from prior studies to analyze the gravitational wave signals generated by such collisions. Considering a maximum distance of 100 Mpc for potential events, we identify the range of masses and scalar field frequencies for these stars that would render the gravitational waves detectable by current gravitational wave observatories. With a growing number of facilities able to monitor the entire sky and produce light curves with a cadence of days, in recent years there has been an increased rate of detection of sources whose variability deviates from standard behavior, revealing a variety of exotic nuclear transients. The aim of the present study is to disentangle the nature of the transient AT 2021hdr, whose optical light curve used to be consistent with a classic Seyfert 1 nucleus, which was also confirmed by its optical spectrum and high-energy properties. From late 2021, AT 2021hdr started to present sudden brightening episodes in the form of oscillating peaks in the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) alert stream, and the same shape is observed in X-rays and UV from Swift data. The oscillations occur every about 60-90 days with amplitudes of around 0.2 mag in the g and r bands. Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) observations show no radio emission at milliarcseconds scale. It is argued that these findings are inconsistent with a standard tidal disruption event (TDE), a binary supermassive black hole (BSMBH), or a changing-look active galactic nucleus (AGN); neither does this object resemble previous observed AGN flares, and disk or jet instabilities are an unlikely scenario. Here, we propose that the behavior of AT 2021hdr might be due to the tidal disruption of a gas cloud by a BSMBH. In this scenario, we estimate that the putative binary has a separation of about 0.83 mpc and would merge in about 70000 years. This galaxy is located at 9 kpc from a companion galaxy, and in this work we report this merger for the first time. Using the cumulant Green's functions method (CGFM), we study the single impurity Anderson model (SIAM). The CGFM starting point is a diagonalization of the SIAM Hamiltonian expressed in a semi-chain form, containing N sites, viz., a correlated site (simulating an impurity) connected to the remaining N-1 uncorrelated conduction-electron sites. An exact solution can be obtained since the complete system has few sites. That solution is employed to calculate the atomic Green's functions and the approximate cumulants used to obtain the impurity and conduction Green's functions for the SIAM, and no self-consistency loop is required. We calculated the density of states, the Friedel sum rule, and the impurity occupation number, all benchmarked against results from the numerical renormalization group (NRG). One of the main insights obtained is that, at very low temperatures, only four atomic transitions contribute to generating the entire SIAM density of states, regardless of the number of sites in the chain and the model's parameters and different regimes: Empty orbital, mixed-valence, and Kondo. Context. Quasar variability can potentially unlock crucial insights into the accretion process. Understanding how this variability is influenced by wavelength is crucial for validating and refining quasar variability models. Aims. This paper aims to enhance the understanding of the dependence of variability on rest-frame wavelength by isolating the variance on different time scales in well-defined wavelength bins and examining the Corona-heated Accretion-disk (CHAR) model. Methods. We investigated the relation between variance and rest-frame wavelength using optical g and r-band light curves from the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) Data Release 15 for 5000 quasars within narrow ranges of black hole mass ($M_{BH}$) and Eddington ratio ($R_{Edd}$). A spectral model taking into account disk continuum emission, Balmer transitions and Fe II pseudo-continuum emission, and other emission lines is necessary to best interpret the variance spectrum. Results. Our analysis indicates a strong anti-correlation between median variance and rest-frame wavelength for quasars with $M_{BH} = 10^{8}$ and $R_{Edd} = 10^{-1}$ at different timescales. This anti-correlation is more pronounced at shorter timescales. The results align well with a bending power-law Power Spectrum Density (PSD) model with both the damping timescale and the high-frequency slope of the PSD depending on wavelength. The accurate predictions provided by the CHAR model on the variance spectrum across most timescales studied showcases its potential in constraining temperature variations within the accretion disk. The Zero-touch Network & Service Management (ZSM) paradigm, a direct response to the increasing complexity of communication networks, is a problem-solving approach. In this paper, taking advantage of recent advances in generative Artificial Intelligence, we introduce the Network ConFiguration Generator (LLM-NetCFG) that employs Large Language Model and architects ZSM configuration agents by Large Language Models. LLM-NetCFG can automatically generate configurations, verify them, and configure network devices based on intents expressed in natural language. We also show the automation and verification of network configurations with minimum human intervention. Moreover, we explore the opportunities and challenges of integrating LLM in functional areas of network management to fully achieve ZSM.

Large language models (LLMs) have advanced financial applications, yet they often lack sufficient financial knowledge and struggle with tasks involving multi-modal inputs like tables and time series data. To address these limitations, we introduce \textit{Open-FinLLMs}, a series of Financial LLMs. We begin with FinLLaMA, pre-trained on a 52 billion token financial corpus, incorporating text, tables, and time-series data to embed comprehensive financial knowledge. FinLLaMA is then instruction fine-tuned with 573K financial instructions, resulting in FinLLaMA-instruct, which enhances task performance. Finally, we present FinLLaVA, a multimodal LLM trained with 1.43M image-text instructions to handle complex financial data types. Extensive evaluations demonstrate FinLLaMA's superior performance over LLaMA3-8B, LLaMA3.1-8B, and BloombergGPT in both zero-shot and few-shot settings across 19 and 4 datasets, respectively. FinLLaMA-instruct outperforms GPT-4 and other Financial LLMs on 15 datasets. FinLLaVA excels in understanding tables and charts across 4 multimodal tasks. Additionally, FinLLaMA achieves impressive Sharpe Ratios in trading simulations, highlighting its robust financial application capabilities. Seaports play a crucial role in the global economy, and researchers have sought to understand their significance through various studies. In this paper, we aim to explore the common characteristics shared by important ports by analyzing the network of connections formed by vessel movement among them. To accomplish this task, we adopt a bottom-up network construction approach that combines three years' worth of AIS (Automatic Identification System) data from around the world, constructing a Ports Network that represents the connections between different ports. Through such representation, we use machine learning to measure the relative significance of different port features. Our model examined such features and revealed that geographical characteristics and the depth of the port are indicators of a port's significance to the Ports Network. Accordingly, this study employs a data-driven approach and utilizes machine learning to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to ports' importance. The outcomes of our work are aimed to inform decision-making processes related to port development, resource allocation, and infrastructure planning in the industry.

We discuss the generation of a Schr\"odinger cat in a nanocavity created by the coupling of an electromagnetic mode with an exciton in a quantum dot considering the dispersive limit of the Jaynes-Cummings model. More than the generation itself, we focus on the effects of the environment over the bosonic state in the nanocavity, which has losses simulated by coupling with two different kind of reservoirs. In the first case, the interaction between the system with a finite reservoir shows that fragments of different sizes of the reservoir deliver the same amount of information about the physical system in the dynamics of the birth and death of the Schr\"odinger cat. The second case considers a structured reservoir, whose spectral density varies significantly with frequency. This situation becomes relevant in solid-state devices where quantum channels are embedded, as memory effects generally cannot be neglected. Under these circumstances, it is observed that the dynamics can differ substantially from the Markovian, presenting oscillations related to the average number of photons. These oscillations influence the information flow between the system and the environment, evidenced here by the measurement of non-Markovianity.

In this work, we investigate the effects of a controlled conical geometry on the electric charge transport through a two-dimensional quantum ring weakly coupled to both the emitter and the collector. These mesoscopic systems are known for being able to confine highly mobile electrons in a defined region of matter. Particularly, we consider a GaAs device having an average radius of $800\hspace{0.05cm}\text{nm}$ in different regimes of subband occupation at non-zero temperature and under the influence of a weak and uniform background magnetic field. Using the adapted Landauer formula for the resonant tunneling and the energy eigenvalues, we explore how the modified surface affects the Van-Hoove conductance singularities and the magnetoresistance interference patterns resulting from the Aharonov-Bohm oscillations of different frequencies. Magnetoresistance oscillations depending only on the curvature intensity are reported, providing a new feature that represents an alternative way to optimize the transport through the device by tuning its geometry., Comment: 12 pages, 9 figures

The galaxy SDSS1335+0728, which had exhibited no prior optical variations during the preceding two decades, began showing significant nuclear variability in the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) alert stream from December 2019 (as ZTF19acnskyy). Its behaviour suggests that SDSS1335+0728 hosts a $\sim 10^6 M_{\odot}$ black hole (BH) that is currently in the process of `turning on'. We present a multi-wavelength photometric analysis and spectroscopic follow-up performed with the aim of better understanding the origin of the nuclear variations detected in SDSS1335+0728. We used archival photometry and spectroscopic data to study the state of SDSS1335+0728 prior to December 2019, and new observations from Swift, SOAR/Goodman, VLT/X-shooter, and Keck/LRIS taken after its turn-on to characterise its current state. We find that: (a) since 2021, the UV flux is four times brighter than the flux reported by GALEX in 2004; (b) since June 2022, the mid-infrared flux has risen more than two times, and the W1-W2 WISE colour has become redder; (c) since February 2024, the source has begun showing X-ray emission; (d) the narrow emission line ratios are now consistent with a more energetic ionising continuum; (e) broad emission lines are not detected; and (f) the [OIII] line increased its flux $\sim 3.6$ years after the first ZTF alert, which implies a relatively compact narrow-line-emitting region. We conclude that the variations observed in SDSS1335+0728 could be either explained by an AGN that is just turning on or by an exotic tidal disruption event (TDE). If the former is true, SDSS1335+0728 is one of the strongest cases of an AGN observed in the process of activating. If the latter, it would correspond to the longest and faintest TDE ever observed (or another class of still unknown nuclear transient). To investigate the short-term variability and determine the size of the optical continuum emitting region of intermediate-mass black holes (IMBHs), we carried out high-cadence, multiband photometric monitoring of a Seyfert 1 galaxy J0249-0815 across two nights, together with a one-night single-band preliminary test. The presence of the broad Ha component in our target was confirmed by recent Paloma spectroscopic observations, 23 years after the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, ruling out the supernovae origin of the broad Ha line. The photometric experiment was primarily conducted utilizing four-channel imagers MuSCAT 3 and 4 mounted on 2 m telescopes within the Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network. Despite the expectation of variability, we observed no significant variation (<1.4%) on timescales of 6 to 10 hr. This nondetection is likely due to substantial host galaxy light diluting the subtle active galactic nucleus (AGN) variability. Additionally, we cannot rule out that the target was in a relatively quiescent state without intranight variability during our monitoring, owing to the stochastic nature of AGN variations. To enhance the possibility of detecting subtle variability signals and lag in future IMBH reverberation campaigns, it may be beneficial to select targets with a higher AGN-to-host flux ratio, and conduct dual-band preliminary tests and tailored simulations., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures
