Abstract Aims Drug‐refractory electrical storm (ES) is a life‐threatening medical emergency. We describe the use of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA‐ECMO) in drug‐refractory ES without a reversible trigger, for which specific guideline recommendations are still lacking. Methods and results Retrospective observational study in four Iberian centres on the indications, treatment, complications, and outcome of drug‐refractory ES not associated with acute coronary syndromes, decompensated heart failure, drug toxicity, electrolyte disturbances, endocrine emergencies, concomitant acute illness with fever, or poor compliance with anti‐arrhythmic drugs, requiring VA‐ECMO for circulatory support. Thirty‐four (6%) out of 552 patients with VA‐ECMO for cardiogenic shock were included [71% men; 57 (44–62) years], 65% underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation before VA‐ECMO implantation, and 26% during cannulation. Left ventricular unloading during VA‐ECMO was used in 8 (24%) patients: 3 (9%) with intraaortic balloon pump, 3 (9%) with LV vent, and 2 (6%) with Impella. Thirty (88%) had structural heart disease and 8 (24%) had an implantable cardioverter‐defibrillator. The drug‐refractory ES was mostly due to monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) (59%), isolated monomorphic VT (26%), polymorphic VT (9%), or VF (6%). Thirty‐one (91%) required deep sedation, 44% overdrive pacing, 36% catheter ablation, and 26% acute autonomic modulation. The main complications were nosocomial infection (47%), bleeding (24%), and limb ischaemia (21%). Eighteen (53%) were weaned from VA‐ECMO, and 29% had heart transplantation. Introduction and objectives: Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF) is diagnosed in patients who survive sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), preferably with documented ventricular fibrillation (VF), without any identifiable structural or electrical abnormality. Current evidence provides limited guidance on the diagnosis and follow-up of these patients. Our aim was to assess the clinical outcomes of survivors of an aborted SCA attributed to IVF. Methods: We retrospectively collected clinical data from all patients who survived SCA and implanted a cardiac defibrillator (ICD) between 2005 and 2023. Results: A total of 38 patients, 36.8% female, with a mean age of 44±14 years old were included. Median follow-up time was 8.7 years (interquartile range (IQR) 4.7–14.7 years). All patients underwent a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation that excluded structural and coronary disease. During follow-up, underlying diagnoses were established in 34.2% of the whole cohort. Genetic testing, performed in 37.2%, revealed underlying diagnoses in 57.1% of those tested, compared to only 26.3% of patients who did not undergo genetic testing [p=0.035, OR=5.1 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.2–21.5)]. Mortality was 10.5% (due to non-arrhythmic causes) and 36.8% patients received appropriate therapies with a median time to first ICD therapy of 39 [5.4–47.3] months. Conclusion(s): Etiological diagnosis and recurrence prediction in patients with IVF remains challenging, even with extensive diagnostic evaluation and long-term follow-up. Resumo: Introdução e objetivos: Fibrilhação Ventricular Idiopática (FVI) refere-se ao diagnóstico atribuído a sobreviventes de paragem cardíaca súbita (PCR) sem cardiopatia estrutural ou causa elétrica identificável após investigação exaustiva. A evidência atual é limitada quanto ao diagnóstico e à história natural destes doentes. O nosso objetivo é avaliar os resultados clínicos de doentes com o diagnóstico de FVI. Métodos: Análise retrospetiva de dados clínicos de sobreviventes a PCR em ritmo desfibrilhável e que implantaram um cardio-desfibrilhador (CDI) entre 2005 e 2023. Resultados: Foram incluídos 38 doentes, 36,8% mulheres, com uma idade média de 44±14 anos e um tempo de seguimento mediano de 8,7 anos (intervalo inter-quartil: 4,7-14,7 anos). Os doentes foram submetidos a uma avaliação diagnóstica compreensiva, tendo-se excluído doença coronária e doença estrutural em todos. Durante o seguimento, o diagnóstico foi estabelecido em 34,2% de todos os doentes. O teste genético, realizado em 37,2%, levou à identificação da etiologia subjacente em 57,1% dos doentes testados, em comparação com 26,3% de diagnósticos alternativos identificados nos doentes que não realizaram teste [p=0,035, OR=5,1 (95% CI 1,2-21,5)]. ABSTRACT Objective: In order to study the scenario of respiratory infections in pediatrics after the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 in Brazil, this study aimed to compare characteristics of children admitted for SARS or upper airway infection caused by either RSV or SARS-CoV-2. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving children up to 48 months of age admitted to a tertiary pediatric hospital with a diagnosis of SARS or upper airway infection between April of 2020 and April of 2021. Respiratory secretion samples were collected 2-5 days after hospitalization, and antigen/PCR tests for viral etiologies were performed. In this analysis, patients with laboratorial diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 and/or RSV were selected, and their clinical and epidemiological characteristics were compared using logistic regression. Results: Our sample initially comprised 369 participants. SARS-CoV-2 and RSV infections were confirmed in 55 (15%) and 59 children (16%), respectively. Mean age was 12 months (0-48 months), and 47 were female. The following characteristics were significantly more frequent in patients with RSV when compared with those with COVID-19: younger age (OR = 0.94; 95% CI: 0.90-0.98); lower frequency of fever (OR = 0.18; 95% CI: 0.05-0.66); and more frequent upper airway symptoms: cough (OR = 7.36; 95% CI: 1.04-52.25); and tachypnea (OR = 6.06; 95% CI: 1.31-28.0). Conclusions: Children with RSV-related SARS were younger, had lower frequency of fever at admission, but had a higher frequency of signs of upper airway infection and lower systemic inflammation when compared with children hospitalized for COVID-19 during the first year of the pandemic.

Resumo Fundamento: O software ablation index (AI) permitiu melhorar os resultados da ablação de fibrilação atrial (FA), mas as taxas de recorrência permanecem significativas. Biomarcadores séricos específicos têm sido associados a essa recorrência. Objetivos: Avaliar se certos biomarcadores podem ser utilizados (individualmente ou combinados) para predizer a recorrência de FA pós ablação guiada pelo AI. Métodos: Estudo multicêntrico, observacional, prospectivo de pacientes consecutivos, encaminhados para ablação de FA de janeiro de 2018 a março de 2021. Hemoglobina, peptídeo natriurético cerebral (BNP), proteína C reativa, troponina I ultrassensível, clearance de creatinina, Hormônio Tireoestimulante (TSH), e Tiroxina livre (T4) foram avaliados quanto à capacidade de prever a recorrência de arritmias durante o acompanhamento. Valores de p 1,8 μUI/mL [HR=1,82 (IC95%, 1,89-2,80), p=0,006] foi um preditor independente de recorrência. Introdução: A World Health Organization [WHO] (2012), identifica a demência como um problema de saúde pública crescente sendo a família a primeira linha de cuidados à pessoa com esta patologia. O Modelo Dinâmico de Avaliação e Intervenção Familiar (MDAIF) constitui um referencial teórico e operativo, orientador do processo de enfermagem, que pretende dar resposta às necessidades dos enfermeiros em cuidar de famílias, no desenvolvimento de práticas centradas na família. (Figueiredo, 2009, 2012). Objetivo: Analisar o impacto dos cuidados prestados pelo enfermeiro especialista em enfermagem de saúde familiar, tendo a família como unidade de cuidados. Métodos: Estudo de caso, descritivo e exploratório, em contexto de UCSP, sendo o MDAIF o referencial teórico e operativo. Como colheita de dados recorreu-se à realização de entrevistas em profundidade. Foram tidos em conta todos os princípios éticos. Resultados: Identificaram-se os seguintes diagnósticos de enfermagem a necessitar de intervenção: edifício residencial não seguro, satisfação conjugal não mantida, papel de prestador de cuidados não adequado, processo familiar disfuncional. Realizada implementação das intervenções decorrentes da expressão de emoções, saturação de papeis e coping recorrendo-se a terapia narrativa. Conclusão: Este estudo possibilitou a identificação das necessidades da família e as intervenções promotoras de mudança. Verificamos a efetividade das intervenções implementadas. Reconhecemos o MDAIF como uma ferramenta essencial para os Enfermeiros na avaliação e intervenção na família como unidade de cuidados.

We combine consistently dated benthic carbon isotopic records distributed over the entire Atlantic Ocean with numerical simulations performed by a glacial configuration of the Norwegian Earth System Model with active ocean biogeochemistry in order to interpret the observed Cibicides δ13C changes at the stadial–interstadial transition corresponding to the end of Heinrich Stadial 4 (HS4) in terms of ocean circulation and remineralization changes. We show that the marked increase in Cibicides δ13C observed at the end of HS4 between ∼2000 and 4200 m in the Atlantic can be explained by changes in nutrient concentrations as simulated by the model in response to the halting of freshwater input in the high-latitude glacial North Atlantic. Our model results show that this Cibicides δ13C signal is associated with changes in the ratio of southern-sourced (SSW) versus northern-sourced (NSW) water masses at the core sites, whereby SSW is replaced by NSW as a consequence of the resumption of deep-water formation in the northern North Atlantic and Nordic Seas after the freshwater input is halted. Our results further suggest that the contribution of ocean circulation changes to this signal increases from ∼40 % at 2000 m to ∼80 % at 4000 m. Below ∼4200 m, the model shows little ocean circulation change but an increase in remineralization across the transition marking the end of HS4. The simulated lower remineralization during stadials compared to during interstadials is particularly pronounced in deep subantarctic sites, in agreement with the decrease in the export production of carbon to the deep Southern Ocean during stadials found in previous studies.

Introdução/Objetivo: Programas de Gerenciamento de Antimicrobianos (PGA) reduzem o uso inadequado e os custos com antimicrobianos (ATM). Em um hospital pediátrico com CCIH atuante avaliamos o impacto no consumo e custos de ATM após implantação de PGA liderado por farmacêuticos clínicos. Método: Estudo quasi-experimental pré (período 1: jun/21-fev/22) e pós (período 2: jun/22-fev/23) intervenção realizado em UTI com 2 leitos neonatais cirúrgicos (UTIN) e 6 pediátricos (UTIP) em hospital pediátrico terciário no Rio de Janeiro. No período 1, a CCIH realizava auditoria, pré-autorização, vigilância de infecções e do consumo de ATM. A Farmácia Clínica (FC) monitorava as intervenções farmacoterapêuticas. Entre mar-mai/22 uma mentoria externa realizou avaliação situacional, treinamento da FC para identificação de problemas com ATM com mentorias semanais e curso sobre ATM e apoio na criação de grupo multiprofissional. Foram comparados taxas de infecções associadas a cuidados de saúde, dias de terapia (DOT), duração da terapia (LOT) e curva ABC entre os dois períodos. Resultados: Nos períodos 1 e 2 foram avaliados, respectivamente, 1842 e 1657 pacientes/dia; 163 e 207 pacientes/dia neonatais. No período 2 aumentou a taxa de pneumonia (168%) e reduziu a de infecções primárias de corrente sanguínea (81%). Meropenem (DOT = 263) e vancomicina (DOT = 252) foram os ATM mais usados na UTIP no período 2, apresentando uma redução de 18% e 8%, respectivamente, em relação ao período 1. Na UTIN predominou o uso de meropenem (DOT = 210) e fluconazol (DOT = 199), sendo que ambos tiveram uma queda ainda mais expressiva, de 50% e 54%, após a intervenção. A LOT nos períodos foi: 0,77 vs. 0,75(UTIN) e 0,77 vs. 0,83(UTIP). No período 2, houve falta de vancocinemia, com aumento do uso de daptomicina (DAP) e interrupção do fornecimento de anfotericina B lipídica (ANF) pelo Ministério da Saúde, com necessidade de compra. Isso repercutiu em aumento de 66% nos custos de ATM pela curva ABC, especialmente da ANF (450%) e DAP (3246%), demonstrando o impacto negativo que tem o desabastecimento de insumos. Quando avaliado o custo anual, excluindo o custo em ANF, houve redução de 14%. Em relação aos custos, no período pós intervenção houve redução do meropenem (11%), micafungina (13%) e cefepima (23%). Conclusão: A adoção do PGA dirigido pela farmácia clínica foi efetivo. Reduziram-se consumo e custos de carbapenêmicos e vancomicina, mesmo com diminuição de verbas para hospitais públicos e desabastecimento de insumos.

Introdução/Objetivo: A síndrome respiratória aguda (SRA) é uma das principais causas de morbi/mortalidade nos primeiros anos de vida, onde a etiologia viral predomina. A partir de março de 2020, com a pandemia do SARS-COV2, um novo agente etiológico surgiu num cenário onde antes o vírus sincicial respiratório (VSR) se destacava. O objetivo deste estudo é diferenciar a infecção pelo SARS-COV2 e VSR em crianças admitidas por SRA em hospital de referência comparando as características clínicas e epidemiológicas em uma coorte de indivíduos de até 48 meses de vida. Métodos: Crianças de até 48 meses de vida, admitidas em hospital pediátrico terciário com diagnóstico de SRA, entre abril/2020 e abril/2021, foram convidadas a participar deste estudo de coorte. Foi coletada amostra de secreção respiratória entre 2-5 dias de internação e realizados testes de antígeno/PCR para etiologias virais. Nesta análise, foram selecionados os pacientes que apresentaram isolamento de SARS-COV2 e/ou VSR, e comparadas as suas características clínicas e epidemiológicas através de regressão logística. Resultados: Foram isolados, dentre os 369 participantes, SARS-COV2 em 15% (55), VSR em 16% (59), e em 1% (5) foram isolados os dois vírus. A idade média da coorte foi de 12 meses (0-48 meses), sendo 47 indivíduos do sexo feminino. As características significativamente mais frequentes em pacientes com VSR, comparados àqueles com COVID-19, foram: menor idade (OR = 0,95, IC95% = 0,91-0,99), febre mais frequente (OR = 7,21, IC95% = 1,67-31,18), menos sintomas respiratórios como coriza (OR = 0,16, IC95% = 0,04-0,56) e taquipneia (OR = 0,09, IC95% = 0,02-0,44) e menor proteína C reativa (OR = 0,98, IC95% = 0,97-1,00). Conclusão: As crianças com SRA por VSR eram mais novas, apresentavam febre à admissão, mas menor frequência de sinais de infecção de vias aéreas superiores e inflamação sistêmica, quando comparadas às crianças internadas por COVID-19, durante o primeiro ano de pandemia. Não foi possível diferenciar o agente etiológico baseado na análise de dados clínicos e laboratoriais inespecíficos visto que suas manifestações são muito semelhantes. É fundamental, portanto, realizar exames específicos como pesquisa de antígeno/PCR para identificação do agente etiológico.

Abstract Background The use of the Ablation Index (AI) software for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) has been associated with higher acute effectiveness and higher 1‐year arrhythmia freedom. There is, however, a lack of data concerning longer follow‐up. We aim to evaluate the 2‐year outcomes after a standardized AI‐guided pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). Methods Prospective, multicenter study of consecutive patients referred for paroxysmal AF ablation from January 2018 to July 2019. PVI was guided by a tailored AI value (≥500 for anterior segment, ≥450 for the roof segments and inferior segments, and 400 for the posterior wall) and an ILD ≤6 mm. The primary endpoints were acute and long‐term effectiveness. Results The study included 218 (842 PV) patients (61% males, median age of 60 [IQR 49–68] years) with paroxysmal AF. First‐pass isolation was obtained in 93% of the patients, with an acute reconnection occurring in 10.6% of the patients (3.2% of the PV) following adenosine trial. After a median follow‐up of 26 (IQR 20–30) months, freedom from any documented atrial arrhythmia was 83.4%, off‐AAD. The rate of adverse events was 1.4%. Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is the most common manifestation of ventricular pre-excitation syndrome and is mostly found in individuals with no structural heart disease. Although the risk of malignant arrhythmias is low, sudden cardiac death (SCD) as the first clinical manifestation of WPW syndrome is well documented, and atrial fibrillation (AF) with a rapid ventricular response is the main mechanism involved. Unfortunately, the signs of pre-excitation and arrhythmias are sometimes under-diagnosed and under-treated. We describe the case of a 31-year-old man who was admitted with an irregular wide complex tachycardia consistent with pre-excited AF, which was not promptly diagnosed, and who developed ventricular fibrillation (VF) after administration of atrioventricular (AV) nodal blockers, as a primary manifestation of WPW syndrome. Blocking the AV node in patients with pre-excited AF may increase the ventricular rate and potentially result in hemodynamic instability. Among patients with WPW syndrome who survive an episode of SCD, catheter ablation of the accessory pathway is the treatment of choice. Embora o risco de arritmias malignas seja baixo, a morte súbita cardíaca (MSC) como primeira manifestação clínica da síndrome de WPW é uma ocorrência bem documentada e a fibrilhação auricular (FA) com resposta ventricular rápida é o principal mecanismo envolvido. Infelizmente, às vezes, os sinais de pré-excitação e as arritmias são subdiagnosticados e subtratados. Descrevemos o caso de um homem de 31 anos admitido com uma taquicardia irregular de complexos largos consistente com FA pré-excitada, não diagnosticada de imediato, que evoluiu para fibrilhação ventricular (FV) após a administração de bloqueadores do nó auriculoventricular (AV), como manifestação inaugural da síndrome de WPW. O bloqueio do nó AV, em pacientes com FA pré-excitada, pode aumentar a frequência ventricular e potencialmente resultar em instabilidade hemodinâmica. Entre os pacientes com síndrome de WPW que sobrevivem a um episódio de MSC, a ablação por cateter de via acessória (VA) é o tratamento de escolha.

Resumo Fundamento Os distúrbios de condução (DC) são a complicação mais frequente após a substituição da válvula aórtica transcateter (TAVR) e ainda não há consenso sobre seu tratamento. Objetivo Avaliar novos DC e implante de marca-passo definitivo (MPD) após a TAVR e avaliar a porcentagem de estimulação ventricular (EV) até 1 ano de acompanhamento. Métodos Pacientes submetidos a TAVR de outubro de 2014 a novembro de 2019 foram cadastrados; pacientes com MPD anterior foram excluídos. Dados clínicos, do procedimento, do ECG e do MPD foram coletados até 1 ano após o implante. O nível de significância adotado para a análise estatística foi 0,05%. Resultados Um total de 340 indivíduos foram submetidos a TAVR. O DC mais comum foi bloqueio de ramo esquerdo novo (BRE; 32,2%), sendo que 56% destes foram resolvidos após 6 meses. IntroductionThe coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) clinical manifestations in children and adolescents are diverse, despite the respiratory condition being the main presentation. Factors such as comorbidities and other respiratory infections may play a role in the initial presentation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This study aims to describe the epidemiological aspects, clinical, and laboratory manifestations of pediatric patients admitted to a tertiary pediatric hospital in Rio de Janeiro, diagnosed with COVID-19, and compare these with other viral conditions during the first year of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.MethodsAll patients under 18 years of age that were admitted with upper airway infection were enrolled and followed up for 30 days. The main dependent variable was the laboratorial diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, and independent variables were studied through logistic regression.ResultsA total of 533 patients were recruited, and 105 had confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Detection of other viruses occurred in 34% of 264 tested participants. Six patients died (two in SARS-CoV-2 infected group). The variables independently associated with COVID-19 were older age (OR = 1.1, 95% CI = 1.0–1.1), lower leukocytes count at entry (OR = 0.9, 95% CI = 0.8–0.9), and contact with suspected case (OR = 1.6, 95% CI = 1.0–2.6). Patients with COVID-19 presented higher odds to be admitted in an intensive care unit (OR = 1.99, 95% CI = 1.08–3.66).ConclusionsEven during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, several other respiratory viruses were present in admitted pediatric patients. Variables associated with COVID-19 infection were older age, lower leukocytes count at entry, and a domiciliary suspect contact. Although patients with COVID-19 were more frequently admitted to ICU, we did not observe higher mortality in this group.

Aims We aimed to assess the acute and midterm efficacy of premature ventricular contraction (PVC) ablation guided by multielectrode and point-by-point (PbP) mapping. Methods and results This is a retrospective, international multicentre study of consecutive patients referred for PVC ablation in 10 hospital centres from January 2017 to December 2021. Based on the mapping approach, two cohorts were identified: the 'Multipolar group', where a dedicated high-density mapping catheter was employed, and the 'PbP group', where mapping was performed with the ablation catheter. Procedural endpoints, safety, and acute (procedural) and midterm efficacies were assessed. Of the 698 patients included in this study, 592 received activation mapping [46% males, median age of 55 (41–65) years]—248 patients in the Multipolar group and 344 patients in the PbP group. A higher number of activation points [432 (217–843) vs. 95 (42–185), P < 0.001], reduced mapping time (40 ± 38 vs. 61 ± 50 min, P < 0.001), and shorter procedure time (124 ± 60 vs. 143 ± 63 min, P < 0.001) were reported in the Multipolar group. Both groups had high acute success rates (84.7% with Multipolar mapping vs. 81.3% with PbP mapping, P = 0.63), as well as midterm efficacy (83.4% vs. 77.4%, P = 0.08), with no significant differences in the risk of adverse events (6.0% vs. 3.5%, P = 0.24). However, for left-sided PVC ablation specifically, there was a higher midterm efficacy in the Multipolar group (80.7% vs. 69.5%, P = 0.04), with multipolar mapping being an independent predictor of success [adjusted OR = 2.231 (95% CI, 1.476–5.108), P = 0.02]. Conclusion The acute and midterm efficacies of PVC ablation are high with both multipolar and PbP mapping, although the former allows for quicker procedures and may potentially improve the outcomes of left-sided PVC ablation. Neurological manifestations of COVID-19 may affect both central and peripheral nervous systems. Unlike in adults, in whom majority of severe cases derive from respiratory complications, neurological involvement is one of the main causes of severe COVID-19 in children. This study aimed to detect viral respiratory pathogens, mainly SARS-CoV-2, in nasopharynx and cerebrospinal fluid samples utilizing qRT-PCR (TaqMan) in a pediatric population in Brazil. We evaluated four children with neurological symptoms and laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection: three presenting with meningoencephalitis and one presenting with Guillain-Barré syndrome. All four patients had mild respiratory symptoms. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was identified in two cerebrospinal fluid samples. SARS-CoV-2 involvement should be considered for differential diagnosis in pediatric cases presenting neurological alterations even if symptoms such as headache, anosmia, or dizziness are absent.

Resumo: Nos últimos anos, tem sido crescente o reconhecimento das causas genéticas das doenças cardiovasculares resultado dos significativos progressos das técnicas laboratoriais. Este conhecimento tem permitido a identificação de «novos» fenótipos e a subclassificação das síndromes clínicas, tendo impacto nas decisões terapêuticas e no aconselhamento genético que é facultado às famílias.No presente documento descreve‐se o «estado da arte» relativamente às principais recomendações para testes genéticos nas doenças cardiovasculares, pretendendo‐se providenciar uma ferramenta útil de consulta para cardiologistas e outros profissionais envolvidos na prestação nos cuidados de saúde a doentes com cardiopatias hereditárias e respetivas famílias. Abstract: In recent years, the importance of genetic causes of cardiovascular diseases has been increasingly recognized, as the result of significant advances in molecular diagnosis techniques. This growing knowledge has enabled the identification of new phenotypes and the subclassification of clinical syndromes, impacting the therapeutic approach and genetic counseling offered to affected families.This paper describes the state of the art of genetic testing in the main cardiovascular diseases, aiming to provide a useful tool to help cardiologists and other health professionals involved in the care of individuals with hereditary heart diseases and their families.

Objective. To describe nurses’ self-perception of competence in family assessment and intervention Methods. A sample of 551 Portuguese primary care nurses was selected. A Likert-type questionnaire with 11 items corresponding to the areas of care proposed by the Dynamic Model of Family Assessment and Intervention (MDAIF) was administered. Each item consists of 7 optional responses; a score equal to or greater than 4 denotes competence. Results. The nurses perceived themselves as competent in areas of care belonging to the development dimension of the MDAIF (parental role, adaptation to pregnancy, and family planning), as well as in the caregiver role (which belongs to the functional dimension). There was a progressive decline in self-perception of competence over the stages of the nursing process. Conclusion. In this study, crucial aspects related to nurses’ self-perception of their competence in family assessment and intervention were observed, and need to be addressed in the training of nurses in all areas of care included in the Model. This should facilitate awareness of the competences needed to provide the best care for families.
