We establish, as $\rho\to 0$, an asymptotic expansion for the minimal Dirichlet energy of $\mathbb S^2$-valued maps outside a finite number of three-dimensional particles of size $\rho$ with fixed centers $x_j\in\mathbb{R}^3$, under general anchoring conditions at the particle boundaries. Up to a scaling factor, this expansion is of the form \begin{align*} E_\rho = \sum_j \mu_j -4\pi\rho \sum_{i\neq j} \frac{\langle v_i,v_j\rangle}{|x_i-x_j|} +o(\rho)\,, \end{align*} where $\mu_j$ is the minimal energy after zooming in at scale $\rho$ around each particle, and $v_j\in\mathbb{R}^3$ is a torque determined by the far-field behavior of the corresponding single-particle minimizer. The above expansion highlights Coulomb-like interactions between the particle centers. This agrees with the \textit{electrostatics analogy} commonly used in the physics literature for colloid interactions in nematic liquid crystal. That analogy was pioneered by Brochard and de Gennes in 1970, based on a formal linearization argument. 1) Objectives: This technical report presents a synthetic summary and the principal outcomes of the project R-Vessel-X ("Robust vascular network extraction and understanding within hepatic biomedical images") funded by the French Agence Nationale de la Recherche, and developed between 2019 and 2023. 2) Material and methods: We used datasets and tools publicly available such as IRCAD, Bullitt or VascuSynth toobtain real or synthetic angiographic images. The main contributions lie in the field of 3D angiographic image analysis: filtering, segmentation, modeling and simulation, with a specific focus on the liver. 3) Results: We paid a particular attention to open-source software diffusion of the developed methods, by means of 3D Slicer plugins for the liver anatomy segmentation (SlicerRVXLiverSegmentation) and vesselness filtering (Slicer-RVXVesselnessFilters), and an online demo for the generation of synthetic and realistic vessels in 2D and 3D (OpenCCO). 4) Conclusion: The R-Vessel-X project provided extensive research outcomes, covering various topics related to 3D angiographic image analysis, such as filtering, segmentation, modeling and simulation. This report summarizes what has happened in the mini-workshops entitled ''My Earth in 180 minutes'' organized during the lunch break at the SF2A 2024 conference in Marseille. The project showcased an innovative serious game designed to raise awareness of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in astronomical research laboratories. Participants, organized into teams, simulate strategies to reduce their carbon footprints by 50\%, focusing on key astronomical activities such as space instrumentation, data analysis, and laboratory work. The sessions highlight the challenges of achieving significant emissions reductions without disrupting core research activities, such as telescope observations. While the serious game facilitates important discussions on sustainable practices, the results point to the need for broader engagement, adaptation to different cultural contexts, and institutional support. We consider entire solutions $\omega\in\dot H^1(\mathbb R^2;\mathbb R^3)$ of the $H$-system $\Delta\omega=2\omega_x\wedge\omega_y,$ which we refer to as bubbles. Surprisingly, and contrary to conjectures raised in the literature, we find that bubbles with degree at least three can be degenerate: the linearized $H$-system around a bubble can admit solutions that are not tangent to the smooth family of bubbles. We then give a complete algebraic characterization of degenerate bubbles., Comment: 10 pages

Background: Medication review is a structured interview of the patient, performed by the pharmacist and aimed at optimizing drug treatments. In practice, medication review is a long and cognitively-demanding task that requires specific knowledge. Clinical practice guidelines have been proposed, but their application is tedious. Methods: We designed ABiMed, a clinical decision support system for medication reviews, based on the implementation of the STOPP/START v2 guidelines and on the visual presentation of aggregated drug knowledge using tables, graphs and flower glyphs. We evaluated ABiMed with 39 community pharmacists during a randomized simulation trial, each pharmacist performing a medication review for two fictitious patients without ABiMed, and two others with ABiMed. We recorded the problems identified by the pharmacists, the interventions proposed, the response time, the perceived usability and the comments. Pharmacists' medication reviews were compared to an expert-designed gold standard. Results: With ABiMed, pharmacists found 1.6 times more relevant drug-related problems during the medication review (p=1.1e-12) and proposed better interventions (p=9.8e-9), without needing more time (p=0.56). The System Usability Scale score is 82.7, which is ranked "excellent". In their comments, pharmacists appreciated the visual aspect of ABiMed and its ability to compare the current treatment with the proposed one. A multifactor analysis showed no difference in the support offered by ABiMed according to the pharmacist's age or sex, in terms of percentage of problems identified or quality of the proposed interventions. Conclusions: The use of an intelligent and visual clinical decision support system can help pharmacists when they perform medication reviews. In this contribution to the panel discussion of the IAU Symposium 388 "Solar and Stellar Coronal Mass Ejections", I concentrate on white-light observations of solar coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from space and specifically address the following aspects: i) history of observations, ii) available catalogs of CMEs, iii) achievements of space observations of CMEs, iv) future of CME observation, and v) challenges and future directions., Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. We show that Lipschitz solutions $u$ of $\mathrm{div}\, G(\nabla u)=0$ in $B_1\subset\mathbb R^2$ are $C^1$, for strictly monotone vector fields $G\in C^0(\mathbb R^2;\mathbb R^2)$ satisfying a mild ellipticity condition. If $G=\nabla F$ for a strictly convex function $F$, and $0\leq \lambda(\xi)\leq \Lambda(\xi)$ are the two eigenvalues of $\nabla^2 F(\xi)$, our assumption is that the set $\lbrace\lambda=0\rbrace \cap \lbrace \Lambda=\infty\rbrace$, where ellipticity degenerates $both$ from below and from above, is finite. This extends results by De Silva and Savin (Duke Math. J. 151, No. 3, p.487-532, 2010), which assumed either that set empty, or the larger set $\lbrace \lambda=0\rbrace$ finite. Our main new input is to transfer estimates in $\lbrace \lambda > 0 \rbrace $ to estimates in $\lbrace \Lambda <\infty\rbrace$ by means of a conjugate equation. When $G$ is not a gradient, the ellipticity assumption needs to be interpreted in a specific way, and we highlight the nontrivial effect of the antisymmetric part of $\nabla G$.

Background: The adherence of clinicians to clinical practice guidelines is known to be low, including for the management of COVID-19, due to their difficult use at the point of care and their complexity. Clinical decision support systems have been proposed to implement guidelines and improve adherence. One approach is to permit the navigation inside the recommendations, presented as a decision tree, but the size of the tree often limits this approach and may cause erroneous navigation, especially when it does not fit in a single screen. Methods: We proposed an innovative visual interface to allow clinicians easily navigating inside decision trees for the management of COVID-19 patients. It associates a multi-path tree model with the use of the fisheye visual technique, allowing the visualization of large decision trees in a single screen. To evaluate the impact of this tool on guideline adherence, we conducted a randomized controlled trial in a near-real simulation setting, comparing the decisions taken by medical students using Orient-COVID with those taken with paper guidelines or without guidance, when performing on six realistic clinical cases. Results: The results show that paper guidelines had no impact (p=0.97), while Orient-COVID significantly improved the guideline adherence compared to both other groups (p<0.0003). A significant impact of Orient-COVID was identified on several key points during the management of COVID-19: ordering troponin lab tests, prescribing anticoagulant and oxygen therapy. A multifactor analysis showed no difference between male and female participants. Conclusions: The use of an interactive decision tree for the management of COVID-19 significantly improved the clinician adherence to guidelines. Future works will focus on the integration of the system to electronic health records and on the adaptation of the system to other clinical conditions., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Patient transfer devices allow to move patients passively in hospitals and care centers. Instead of hoisting the patient, it would be beneficial in some cases to assist their movement, enabling them to move by themselves. However, patient assistance requires devices capable of precisely controlling output forces at significantly higher speeds than those used for patient transfers alone, and a single motor solution would be over-sized and show poor efficiency to do both functions. This paper presents a dual-motor actuator and control schemes adapted for a patient mobility equipment that can be used to transfer patients, assist patient in their movement, and help prevent falls. The prototype is shown to be able to lift patients weighing up to 318 kg, to assist a patient with a desired force of up to 100 kg with a precision of 7.8%. Also, a smart control scheme to manage falls is shown to be able to stop a patient who is falling by applying a desired deceleration., Comment: 9 pages, 11 figures

We study differential inclusions $Du\in \Pi$ in an open set $\Omega\subset\mathbb R^2$, where $\Pi\subset \mathbb R^{2\times 2}$ is a compact connected $C^2$ curve without rank-one connections, but non-elliptic: tangent lines to $\Pi$ may have rank-one connections, so that classical regularity and rigidity results do not apply. For a wide class of such curves $\Pi$, we show that $Du$ is locally Lipschitz outside a discrete set, and is rigidly characterized around each singularity. Moreover, in the partially elliptic case where at least one tangent line to $\Pi$ has no rank-one connections, or under some topological restrictions on the tangent bundle of $\Pi$, there are no singularities. This goes well beyond previously known particular cases related to Burgers' equation and to the Aviles-Giga functional. The key is the identification and appropriate use of a general underlying structure: an infinite family of conservation laws, called entropy productions in reference to the theory of scalar conservation laws.

The BigCode project, an open-scientific collaboration focused on the responsible development of Large Language Models for Code (Code LLMs), introduces StarCoder2. In partnership with Software Heritage (SWH), we build The Stack v2 on top of the digital commons of their source code archive. Alongside the SWH repositories spanning 619 programming languages, we carefully select other high-quality data sources, such as GitHub pull requests, Kaggle notebooks, and code documentation. This results in a training set that is 4x larger than the first StarCoder dataset. We train StarCoder2 models with 3B, 7B, and 15B parameters on 3.3 to 4.3 trillion tokens and thoroughly evaluate them on a comprehensive set of Code LLM benchmarks. We find that our small model, StarCoder2-3B, outperforms other Code LLMs of similar size on most benchmarks, and also outperforms StarCoderBase-15B. Our large model, StarCoder2- 15B, significantly outperforms other models of comparable size. In addition, it matches or outperforms CodeLlama-34B, a model more than twice its size. Although DeepSeekCoder- 33B is the best-performing model at code completion for high-resource languages, we find that StarCoder2-15B outperforms it on math and code reasoning benchmarks, as well as several low-resource languages. We make the model weights available under an OpenRAIL license and ensure full transparency regarding the training data by releasing the SoftWare Heritage persistent IDentifiers (SWHIDs) of the source code data.

Solar radio U-bursts are generated by electron beams traveling along closed magnetic loops in the solar corona. Low-frequency ($<$ 100 MHz) U-bursts serve as powerful diagnostic tools for studying large-sized coronal loops that extend into the middle corona. However, the positive frequency drift component (descending leg) of U-bursts has received less attention in previous studies, as the descending radio flux is weak. In this study, we utilized LOFAR interferometric solar imaging data from a U-burst that has a significant descending leg component, observed between 10 to 90 MHz on June 5th, 2020. By analyzing the radio source centroid positions, we determined the beam velocities and physical parameters of a large coronal magnetic loop that reached just about 1.3 $\rm{R_{\odot}}$ in altitude. At this altitude, we found the plasma temperature to be around 1.1 MK, the plasma pressure around 0.20 $\rm{mdyn,cm^{-2}}$, and the minimum magnetic field strength around 0.07 G. The similarity in physical properties determined from the image suggests a symmetric loop. The average electron beam velocity on the ascending leg was found to be 0.21 c, while it was 0.14 c on the descending leg. This apparent deceleration is attributed to a decrease in the range of electron energies that resonate with Langmuir waves, likely due to the positive background plasma density gradient along the downward loop leg.

In any dimension $n\geq 3$, we prove an optimal stability estimate for the M\"obius group among maps $u\colon \mathbb S^{n-1} \to \mathbb R^n$, of the form $\inf_{\lambda>0,\phi\in \mathrm{M\"ob}(\mathbb S^{n-1})} \int_{\mathbb S^{n-1}}\left|\frac 1\lambda \nabla_{T} u -\nabla_{ T}\phi\right|^{n-1} d\mathcal H^{n-1} \leq C_n \mathcal E_{n-1}(u).$ Here, $\mathcal E_{n-1}(u)$ is a conformally invariant deficit which measures simultaneously lack of conformality and the deviation of $u(\mathbb S^{n-1})$ from being a round sphere in an isoperimetric sense. This entails in particular the following qualitative statement: sequences with vanishing deficit, once appropriately normalized by the action of the M\"obius group, are compact. We report on the detection of three icy cavities on the nucleus of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. They were identified on high-resolution anaglyphs built from images acquired by the OSIRIS instrument aboard the Rosetta spacecraft on 2016 April 9-10. Visually, they appear as bright patches of typically 15 to 30 m across whose large reflectances and spectral slopes in the visible substantiate the presence of sub-surface water ice. Using a new high-resolution photogrammetric shape model we determined the three-dimensional shape of these cavities whose depth ranges from 20 to 47 m. Spectral slopes were interpreted with models combining water ice and refractory dark material and the water ice abundances in the cavities were found to amount to a few per cent. The determination of the lifetime of the icy cavities was strongly biased by the availability of appropriate and favourable observations, but we found evidences of values of up to two years. The icy cavities were found to be connected to jets well documented in past studies. A thermal model allowed us to track their solar insolation over a large part of the orbit of the comet and a transitory bright jet on 2015 July 18 was unambiguously linked to the brief illumination of the icy bottom of one of the three cavities. These cavities are likely to be the first potential subsurface access points detected on a cometary nucleus and their lifetimes suggest that they reveal pristine sub-surface icy layers or pockets rather than recently recondensed water vapor., Comment: 23 pages, 25 figures, 6 tables; one figure and references added. Background: Polypharmacy, i.e. taking five drugs or more, is both a public health and an economic issue. Medication reviews are structured interviews of the patient by the community pharmacist, aiming at optimizing the drug treatment and deprescribing useless, redundant or dangerous drugs. However, they remain difficult to perform and time-consuming. Several clinical decision support systems were developed for helping clinicians to manage polypharmacy. However, most were limited to the implementation of clinical practice guidelines. In this work, our objective is to design an innovative clinical decision support system for medication reviews and polypharmacy management, named ABiMed. Methods: ABiMed associates several approaches: guidelines implementation, but the automatic extraction of patient data from the GP's electronic health record and its transfer to the pharmacist, and the visual presentation of contextualized drug knowledge using visual analytics. We performed an ergonomic assessment and qualitative evaluations involving pharmacists and GPs during focus groups and workshops. Results: We describe the proposed architecture, which allows a collaborative multi-user usage. We present the various screens of ABiMed for entering or verifying patient data, for accessing drug knowledge (posology, adverse effects, interactions), for viewing STOPP/START rules and for suggesting modification to the treatment. Qualitative evaluations showed that health professionals were highly interested by our approach, associating the automatic guidelines execution with the visual presentation of drug knowledge. Conclusions: The association of guidelines implementation with visual presentation of knowledge is a promising approach for managing polypharmacy. In a two dimensional annulus $A_\rho=\{x\in \mathbb R^2: \rho<|x|<1\}$, $\rho\in (0,1)$, we characterize $0$-homogeneous minimizers, in $H^1(A_\rho;\mathbb S^1)$ with respect to their own boundary conditions, of the anisotropic energy \begin{equation*} E_\delta(u)=\int_{A_\rho} |\nabla u|^2 +\delta \left( (\nabla\cdot u)^2-(\nabla\times u)^2\right) \, dx,\quad \delta\in (-1,1). \end{equation*} Even for a small anisotropy $0<|\delta|\ll 1$, we exhibit qualitative properties very different from the isotropic case $\delta=0$. In particular, $0$-homogeneous critical points of degree $d\notin \lbrace 0,1,2\rbrace$ are always local minimizers, but in thick annuli ($\rho\ll 1$) they are not minimizers: the $0$-homogeneous symmetry is broken. One corollary is that entire solutions to the anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau system have a far-field behavior very different from the isotropic case studied by Brezis, Merle and Rivi\`ere. The tools we use include: ODE and variational arguments; asymptotic expansions, interpolation inequalities and explicit computations involving near-optimizers of these inequalities for proving that $0$-homogeneous critical points are not minimizers in thick annuli., Comment: The third item in Theorem 1.1 is wrong. Studying the magnetic fields of exoplanets will provide valuable information about their interior structures, atmospheric properties (escape and dynamics), and potential habitability. One of the most promising methods to detect exoplanetary magnetic fields is to study their auroral radio emission. However, there are no confirmed detections of an exoplanet in the radio despite decades of searching. Recently, Turner et al. 2021 reported a tentative detection of circularly polarized bursty emission from the $\tau$ Boo exoplanetary system using LOFAR low-frequency beamformed observations. The likely source of this emission was presumed to be from the $\tau$ Boo planetary system and a possible explanation is radio emission from the exoplanet $\tau$ Boo b, produced via the cyclotron maser mechanism. Assuming the emission is from the planet, Turner et al. 2021 found that the derived planetary magnetic field is compatible with theoretical predictions. The need to confirm this tentative detection is critical as a conclusive detection would have broad implications for exoplanetary science. In this study, we performed a follow-up campaign on the $\tau$ Boo system using the newly commissioned NenuFAR telescope in 2020. We do not detect any bursty emission in the NenuFAR observations. There are many different degenerate explanations for our non-detection. For example, the original bursty signal may have been caused by an unknown instrumental systematic. Alternatively, the planetary emission from $\tau$ Boo b is variable. As planetary radio emission is triggered by the interaction of the planetary magnetosphere with the magnetized stellar wind, the expected intensity of the planetary radio emission varies greatly with stellar rotation and along the stellar magnetic cycle. More observations are needed to fully understand the mystery of the possible variability of the $\tau$ Boo b radio emission., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables. Clinical decision support systems are software tools that help clinicians to make medical decisions. However, their acceptance by clinicians is usually rather low. A known problem is that they often require clinicians to manually enter lots of patient data, which is long and tedious. Existing solutions, such as the automatic data extraction from electronic health record, are not fully satisfying, because of low data quality and availability. In practice, many systems still include long questionnaire for data entry. In this paper, we propose an original solution to simplify patient data entry, using an adaptive questionnaire, i.e. a questionnaire that evolves during user interaction, showing or hiding questions dynamically. Considering a rule-based decision support systems, we designed methods for translating the system's clinical rules into display rules that determine the items to show in the questionnaire, and methods for determining the optimal order of priority among the items in the questionnaire. We applied this approach to a decision support system implementing STOPP/START v2, a guideline for managing polypharmacy. We show that it permits reducing by about two thirds the number of clinical conditions displayed in the questionnaire. Presented to clinicians during focus group sessions, the adaptive questionnaire was found "pretty easy to use". In the future, this approach could be applied to other guidelines, and adapted for data entry by patients.
