An excessive control of quality of food can turn into Orthorexia Nervosa (ON). The organic store customers (OSCs) can be apopulation at risk for ON. The aims of this study were to assess ON symptoms prevalence among them, comparing them with non-OSCs and investigate potential predictors of ON. Across-sectional survey was carried among 121 OSCs and 119 non-OSCs. The questionnaire assessed socio-demographic characteristics and investigated current dietary habits. The main outcome measures used were ORTO-15 and Eating Habits Questionnaire (EHQ). Chi-squared analyses were performed to assess differences between groups (OSCs and non-OSCs). Logistic and linear regressions were performed to evaluate potential predictors of ON symptoms and to compare questionnaires. As main results, OSCs had ahigher probability to result positive at ORTO-15 compared to non-OSCs. The prevalence among OSCs was 69.4% and 23.1% (using ORTO-15 with 40 and 35 cut-offs). Higher EHQ scores were reported among OSCs (p 0.001). Potential predictors were mainly being an OSC or following food restrictions. Predictors varied using different cut-offsof ORTO-15 and EHQ. These results suggest the association between OSCs and ON symptoms. Some differences were found between ORTO-15 and EHQ. Further studies need to be performed to improve diagnostic tools.

Numerical simulations offer a wide range of benefits, therefore they are widely used in research and development. One of the biggest benefits is the possibility of automated parameter variation. This allow testing different scenarios in a very short period of time. Nevertheless, physical experiments in the laboratory or on a test rig are still necessary and will still be necessary in the future. The physical experiments offer benefits e.g. for very complex and/or nonlinear systems and are needed for the validation of numerical models.Fraunhofer LBF has developed hardware solutions to bring the benefit of rapid and automated parameter variation to experimental environments. These solutions allow the tuning and emulation of the mechanical properties, like stiffness, damping and eigenfrequencies of structures.The work presents two approaches: First a stiffness tunable mount, which has been used in laboratory tests in the field of semi-active load path redistribution. It allowed the researcher to test the semi-active system under different mechanical boundary conditions in a short period of time. Second, a mechanical Hardware-in-the-loop (mHIL) approach for the NVH development of vehicles components is presented. Here a mHIL-system is used to emulate the mechanical characteristics of a vehicle’s body in white in a wide frequency range. This allows the experimental NVH optimization of vehicle components under realistic boundary conditions, without actually needing a (prototype) body in white.

The Faro Convention (2005) established that “heritage community” consists of people who value specific aspects of cultural heritage which they wish, within the framework of public action, to sustain and transmit to future generations. In all regions there are hundreds of voices waiting to make themselves heard, that have a high potential in terms of teaching, identification of values, community building. The "Narrating@ Fiesole" project intends to start walking on a path that connects landscape and cultural heritage, understood as a living heritage and storytelling. The main objective is to give voice to this "heritage community", creating a participatory archive on- line, an innovative tool of knowledge, memory, education and development of the territory and of its landscapes., Ri-Vista, Vol 11 No 1 (2013)

A região sudoeste do vale do rio Paraíba do Sul, na Bacia de Taubaté tem uma elevada dependência de água subterrânea, fazendo necessária a melhor compreensão dessas águas para a sua gestão. São águas de dois ambientes hidrogeológicos distintos: o aquífero Cristalino e o Sistema Aquífero Taubaté. Neste trabalho foram caracterizadas e classificadas quatro zonas hidroquímicas: Taubaté1, Bicarbonatadas sódicas; Taubaté2, Bicarbonatadas potássicas; Taubaté3, Bicarbonatadas sódicas a Bicarbonatadas cálcicas; e Cristalino, Bicarbonatadas sódicas a Bicarbonatadas cálcicas. Esta caracterização permitiu observar uma interação de águas do aquífero fraturado Cristalino com águas dos aquíferos granulares do SAT. Foram verificadas ocorrências anômalas de nitrato e cloreto nas águas, decorrentes de interferência antrópica, que embora tenham sido pontuais e abaixo dos limites de referência aplicáveis, alertam para a necessidade de melhorias na gestão dos aquíferos.

Starting from an overview of international Conventions between culture and nature, the paper analyses some aspects of the heritage-making process. We explore the connection between ICH and TK in the light of two case studies: cultural policies in the French Savoy and in Venice, Italy. In Savoy, a movement is connecting civil society, local economies and policies in a decentralisation process, between conflicts and compromises. In Venice, civil society and scientific communities work together for the safeguarding of ICH. We argue that only effective ICH safeguarding policies, well connected to the economy, can support and make productive this dialogue on the current process of change., Sapere l’Europa, sapere d’Europa

La Politica di Sviluppo Rurale dell'Unione Europea (2007-2013) individua una serie di misure che, considerando diverse sfaccettature del mondo agricolo, si collocano nella prospettiva unitaria dell'innovazione in un settore tradizionalmente considerato statico e poco reattivo. Partendo da tali presupposti teorico-metodologici (un set d' indicatori che riesca a fotografare -nel modo più attendibile, sintetico e significativo -il grado di differenziazione delle attività svolte in seno alle aziende censite), si è voluto verificare per il Mezzogiorno d'Italia il livello di aderenza del comparto agricolo alle sollecitazioni del Piano di Sviluppo Rurale dell'UE in termini d'innovazione e diversificazione economica.

Per consentire alle scienze geografiche di svolgere un ruolo attivo nei processi di pianificazione e nella progettualità territoriale, è stata sviluppata in ambiente GIS una metodologia finalizzata all'individuazione delle specificità ambientali e culturali, non sempre riconoscibili in ambiti sottoposti ad una rilevante pressione antropica. Attraverso il GIS è stato, infatti, possibile gestire un corpus ingente di dati non omogenei per assicurare ad un rilevante patrimonio informativo, statistico e cartografico, ricadute applicative ed operative nella gestione dell'area metropolitana partenopea e di alcuni tratti del litorale campano. Il contributo si propone di individuare le specificiità culturali e ambientali su cui imperniare il processo di pianificazione.

Bureaucracy is by its inherent nature inefficient. This fact is due to the structure of the governance in a democratic system: the bureaucrats respond to the political apparatus and they do not respond directly to the citizens who elect the above quoted political apparatus. Bureaucracies, as Von Mises argues, supply services that cannot be bought or sold for a per unit price. Consequently, bureaucracies cannot be governed by a profit objective or economic calculation. In the absence of a profit objective bureaucracies are centrally governed by auto referential rules. Not working on the basis of the free sinallagma exchange, bureaucracies are basically an instrument to deny the freedom of choice of the citizen with whom bureaucracy does not have a direct relationship. The bureaucrats as individuals are governed, as all other human beings, by the maximization of their own utility and in doing so they are not controlled by their true stakeholder, the citizen. “Civil Servant”, a term often referred to bureaucrats, is one of the most hypocritical way of saying that can be found in political economy: the bureaucrats certainly serve themselves and their own interests in a very “educated”(civil) manner but, not being controlled directly by their natural clients- the citizens-, they are allowed by a colluded political apparatus, whose unique interest is that of being re-elected, to maximize their own utility, an end that very often does not coincide with the maximization of the citizens’ utility.

Adams-Oliver syndrome (AOS) is a rare disease characterized by congenital scalp defects, terminal transverse limb defects and cutis marmorata telangiectatica. A significant incidence of cardiac and vascular malformations has been reported, leading to the hypothesis of a vascular defect early involved in the pathogenesis. We report two members of the same family with previously diagnosed AOS based on clinical phenotype and later recognized to have pulmonary arterio-venous malformation (PAVM). None of the subjects fulfilled current diagnostic criteria of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, which is the most common cause of PAVM. The occurrence of PAVM in AOS lends support to the hypothesis that endothelial specific abnormalities could be a patho-physiological mechanism in its development. Therefore, the role of screening for PAVM in clinical management of subjects with AOS should deserve further studies.
