It explores the intricate structure-function relationship within the eye lens, offering new perspectives through lens models and ray tracing techniques. The document also covers advancements in retinal imaging, highlighting the current state and future directions, and the role of adaptive optics in evaluating retinal structure and function in both healthy and diseased eyes. Furthermore, it addresses the modelling of ocular surfaces using different mathematical functions and examines the factors affecting peripheral image quality in the human eye, emphasizing the importance of these aspects in visual performance. Additional topics include schematic and functional models of the human eye, the impact of optical and chromatic aberrations, and the design of contact, and intraocular lenses. Face identity masking algorithms developed in recent years aim to protect the privacy of people in video recordings. These algorithms are designed to interfere with identification, while preserving information about facial actions. An important challenge is to preserve subtle actions in the eye region, while obscuring the salient identity cues from the eyes. We evaluated the effectiveness of identity-masking algorithms based on Canny filters, applied with and without eye enhancement, for interfering with identification and preserving facial actions. In Experiments 1 and 2, we tested human participants' ability to match the facial identity of a driver in a low resolution video to a high resolution facial image. Results showed that both masking methods impaired identification, and that eye enhancement did not alter the effectiveness of the Canny filter mask. In Experiment 3, we tested action preservation and found that neither method interfered significantly with driver action perception. We conclude that relatively simple, filter-based masking algorithms, which are suitable for application to low quality video, can be used in privacy protection without compromising action perception., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the associated effects on the world of work, the burden on employees has been brought into focus. This fact also applies to agile software development teams in many companies due to the extensive switch to remote work. Too high a workload can lead to various negative effects, such as increased sick leave, the well-being of employees, or reduced productivity. It is also known that the workload in knowledge work impacts the quality of the work results. This research article identifies potential factors of the workload of the agile software development team members at Otto GmbH & Co KG. Based on the factors, we present measures to reduce workload and explain our findings, which we have validated in an experiment. Our results show that even small-scale actions, such as the introduction of rest work phases during the working day, lead to positive effects, for example, increased ability to concentrate and how these affect the quality of the work results., Comment: in German language

While collaboration among data scientists is a key to organizational productivity, data analysts face significant barriers to achieving this end, including data sharing, accessing and configuring the required computational environment, and a unified method of sharing knowledge. Each of these barriers to collaboration is related to the fundamental question of knowledge management "how can organizations use knowledge more effectively?". In this paper, we consider the problem of knowledge management in collaborative data analytics and present ShareAL, an integrated knowledge management platform, as a solution to that problem. The ShareAL platform consists of three core components: a full stack web application, a dashboard for analyzing streaming data and a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster for performing real time analysis. Prior research has not applied knowledge management to collaborative analytics or developed a platform with the same capabilities as ShareAL. ShareAL overcomes the barriers data scientists face to collaboration by providing intuitive sharing of data and analytics via the web application, a shared computing environment via the HPC cluster and knowledge sharing and collaboration via a real time messaging application.

As a key indicator of unsafe driving, driving volatility characterizes the variations in microscopic driving decisions. This study characterizes volatility in longitudinal and lateral driving decisions and examines the links between driving volatility in time to collision and crash injury severity. By using a unique real-world naturalistic driving database from the 2nd Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP), a test set of 671 crash events featuring around 0.2 million temporal samples of real world driving are analyzed. Based on different driving performance measures, 16 different volatility indices are created. To explore the relationships between crash-injury severity outcomes and driving volatility, the volatility indices are then linked with individual crash events including information on crash severity, drivers' pre crash maneuvers and behaviors, secondary tasks and durations, and other factors. As driving volatility prior to crash involvement can have different components, an indepth analysis is conducted using the aggregate as well as segmented (based on time to collision) real world driving data. To account for the issues of observed and unobserved heterogeneity, fixed and random parameter logit models with heterogeneity in parameter means and variances are estimated. The empirical results offer important insights regarding how driving volatility in time to collision relates to crash severity outcomes. Overall, statistically significant positive correlations are found between the aggregate (as well as segmented) volatility measures and crash severity outcomes. The findings suggest that greater driving volatility (both in longitudinal and lateral direction) in time to collision increases the likelihood of police reportable or most severe crash events... ...

Face de-identification algorithms have been developed in response to the prevalent use of public video recordings and surveillance cameras. Here, we evaluated the success of identity masking in the context of monitoring drivers as they actively operate a motor vehicle. We studied the effectiveness of eight de-identification algorithms using human perceivers and a state-of-the-art deep convolutional neural network (CNN). We used a standard face recognition experiment in which human subjects studied high-resolution (studio-style) images to learn driver identities. Subjects were tested subsequently on their ability to recognize those identities in low-resolution videos depicting the drivers operating a motor vehicle. The videos were in either unmasked format, or were masked by one of the eight de-identification algorithms. All masking algorithms lowered identification accuracy substantially, relative to the unmasked video. In all cases, identifications were made with stringent decision criteria indicating the subjects had low confidence in their decisions. When matching the identities in high-resolution still images to those in the masked videos, the CNN performed at chance. Next, we examined CNN performance on the same task, but using the unmasked videos and their masked counterparts. In this case, the network scored surprisingly well on a subset of mask conditions. We conclude that carefully tested de-identification approaches, used alone or in combination, can be an effective tool for protecting the privacy of individuals captured in videos.
