We present a novel technique called "photometric IGM tomography" to map the intergalactic medium (IGM) at $z\simeq4.9$ in the COSMOS field. It utilizes deep narrow-band (NB) imaging to photometrically detect faint Ly$\alpha$ forest transmission in background galaxies across the Subaru/Hyper-Suprime Cam (HSC)'s $1.8\rm\,sq.\,deg$ field of view and locate Ly$\alpha$ emitters (LAEs) in the same cosmic volume. We present a method that derives the dust temperatures and infrared (IR) luminosities of high-redshift galaxies assuming radiation equilibrium in a simple dust and stellar distribution geometry. Using public data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) archive, we studied dust temperatures assuming a clumpy interstellar medium (ISM) model for high-redshift galaxies, then tested the consistency of our results with those obtained using other methods. We find that a dust distribution model assuming a clumpiness of ${\rm log}\,\xi_{\rm clp}=-1.02\pm0.41$ may accurately represent the ISM of high-redshift star-forming galaxies. By assuming a value of $\xi_{\rm{clp}}$, our method enables the derivation of dust temperatures and IR luminosities of high-redshift galaxies from dust continuum fluxes and emission sizes obtained from single-band ALMA observations. to demonstrate the method proposed herein, we determined the dust temperature ($T_{\rm d}=95^{+13}_{-17}\,\rm{K}$) of a $z\sim8.3$ star-forming galaxy, MACS0416-Y1. Background We previously showed that females were associated with a higher risk of arrhythmia recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) of atrial fibrillation (AF). Whether age influences sex differences in terms of recurrence after CA of AF still remains unknown. Objective We sought to investigate the sex differences in the efficacy of RFCA of AF according to an advanced age. Methods We conducted a large-scale, prospective, multicenter, observational study (Kansai Plus Atrial Fibrillation Registry), enrolling 5010 consecutive patients who underwent an initial RFCA of AF at 26 centers (64±10 years; females, 27.3%; non-paroxysmal AF, 35.7%). The median follow-up duration was 2.9 years. Results The entire cohort was divided into either an age≥75 (n=790; females, 40.3%) and age < 75 years (n=4220; females, 24.9%). In the age≥75 group, the 3-year cumulative incidence of AF recurrences was identical between the sexes both after a single procedure (female vs. male, 38.1% vs. 40.7%, Log-rank P=0.39) and multiple procedures (22.3% vs. 21.6%, Log-rank P=0.96). Radio-loud active galactic nuclei (RLAGNs) are rare among AGN populations. Lacking high-resolution and high-frequency observations, their structure and evolution stages are not well understood at high redshifts. In this work, we report ALMA 237 GHz continuum observation at $0.023''$ resolution and VLA 44 GHz continuum observation at $0.08''$ resolution of the radio continuum emission from a high-redshift radio and hyper-luminous infrared galaxy at $z=1.92$. The new observations confirm the South-East (SE) and North-West (NW) hotspots identified by previous low-resolution VLA observations at 4.7 and 8.2 GHz and identify a radio core undetected in all previous observations. The SE hotspot has a higher flux density than the NW one does by a factor of 6, suggesting that there can be a Doppler boosting effect in the SE one. In this scenario, we estimate the advance speed of the jet head, ranging from $\sim$0.1c -- 0.3c, which yields a mildly relativistic case. The projected linear distance between the two hotspots is $\sim13$ kpc, yielding a linear size ($\leq20$ kpc) of a Compact-Steep-Spectrum (CSS) source. Combined with new \black{high-frequency ($\nu_\text{obs}\geq44$ GHz) and archived low-frequency observations ($\nu_\text{obs}\leq8.2$ GHz)}, we find that injection spectra of both NW and SE hotspots can be fitted with a continuous injection (CI) model. Based on the CI model, the synchrotron ages of NW and SE hotspots have an order of $10^5$ yr, consistent with the order of magnitude $10^3 - 10^5$ yr observed in CSS sources associated with radio AGNs at an early evolution stage. The CI model also favors the scenario in which the double hotspots have experienced a quiescent phase, suggesting that this RLAGN may have transient or intermittent activities., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

Begomoviruses are members of the family Geminiviridae, a large and diverse group of plant viruses characterized by a small circular single-stranded DNA genome encapsidated in twinned quasi-icosahedral virions. Cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is particularly susceptible and is infected by >100 bipartite and monopartite begomoviruses worldwide. In Brazil, 25 tomato-infecting begomoviruses have been described, most of which are bipartite. Tomato mottle leaf curl virus (ToMoLCV) is one of the most important of these and was first described in the late 1990s but has not been fully characterized. Here, we show that ToMoLCV is a monopartite begomovirus with a genomic DNA similar in size and genome organization to those of DNA-A components of New World (NW) begomoviruses. Tomato plants agroinoculated with the cloned ToMoLCV genomic DNA developed typical tomato mottle leaf curl disease symptoms, thereby fulfilling Koch's postulates and confirming the monopartite nature of the ToMoLCV genome. We further show that ToMoLCV is transmitted by whiteflies, but not mechanically. Phylogenetic analyses placed ToMoLCV in a distinct and strongly supported clade with other begomoviruses from northeastern Brazil, designated the ToMoLCV lineage. Genetic analyses of the complete sequences of 87 ToMoLCV isolates revealed substantial genetic diversity, including five strain groups and seven subpopulations, consistent with a long evolutionary history. Phylogeographic models generated with partial or complete sequences predicted that the ToMoLCV emerged in northeastern Brazil >700 years ago, diversifying locally and then spreading widely in the country. Thus, ToMoLCV emerged well before the introduction of MEAM1 whiteflies, suggesting that the evolution of NW monopartite begomoviruses was facilitated by local whitefly populations and the highly susceptible tomato host. IMPORTANCE Worldwide, diseases of tomato caused by whitefly-transmitted geminiviruses (begomoviruses) cause substantial economic losses and a reliance on insecticides for management. Here, we describe the molecular and biological properties of tomato mottle leaf curl virus (ToMoLCV) from Brazil and establish that it is a NW monopartite begomovirus indigenous to northeastern Brazil. This answered a long-standing question regarding the genome of this virus, and it is part of an emerging group of these viruses in Latin America. This appears to be driven by widespread planting of the highly susceptible tomato and by local and exotic whiteflies. Our extensive phylogenetic studies placed ToMoLCV in a distinct strongly supported clade with other begomoviruses from northeastern Brazil and revealed new insights into the origin of Brazilian begomoviruses. The novel phylogeographic analysis indicated that ToMoLCV has had a long evolutionary history, emerging in northeastern Brazil >700 years ago. Finally, the tools used here (agroinoculation system and ToMoLCV-specific PCR test) and information on the biology of the virus (host range and whitefly transmission) will be useful in developing and implementing integrated pest management (IPM) programs targeting ToMoLCV.

Angelica keiskei (Ashitaba) is a large perennial herb that is native to the Pacific coast of Japan. It has recently become popular as a healthy food in Asian countries because it might have various physiological benefits including antithrombotic properties. Most studies of the bioactive constituents from Ashitaba have focused on the activities of the major chalcones, xanthoangelol and 4-hydroxyderricin. However, other chalcones, flavanones and coumarins have also been isolated from Ashitaba, precisely characterized, and investigated in vivo. Platelets play a key role in haemostasis and wound healing processes. Dysregulated platelet activity is associated with the progression of platelet aggregation and decreased venous blood flow, which results in thrombotic diseases. A minor chalcone, xanthoangelol E, inhibits TXB2 synthesis in rabbit platelets, which seems to be the source of the belief that Ashitaba has antithrombotic properties. However, recent data showed that xanthoangelol and 4-hydroxyderricin inhibited the aggregation of rabbit platelets. Platelet aggregation stimulated by collagen was also inhibited in whole blood incubated with Xanthoangelol or 4-hydroxyderricin. Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 is the primary physiological inhibitor of tissue type plasminogen activator, a key protease of the fibrinolytic system. An increase in plasma of this inhibitor is associated with thrombotic conditions. Ashitaba yellow exudate inhibited the elevation of plasma plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 in mice induced by obesity or chronic low-grade inflammation. These studies showed the yellow exudate from stem cuttings and chalcones isolated from Ashitaba roots and leaves might have antithrombotic activity. This article reviews the possible antithrombotic properties of Ashitaba.

Objectives The aim of this AFIRE (Atrial Fibrillation and Ischemic Events With Rivaroxaban in Patients With Stable Coronary Artery Disease) trial subgroup analysis was to examine rivaroxaban monotherapy benefits and their relation to the time between stenting and enrollment among patients after coronary stenting. Background Of 2,215 patients with atrial fibrillation and stable coronary artery disease in the AFIRE trial, rivaroxaban monotherapy was noninferior to rivaroxaban plus antiplatelet therapy (combination therapy) in terms of efficacy and superior for safety endpoints. However, thrombotic risk after antiplatelet therapy cessation remained a concern among 1,444 patients who had undergone coronary stenting >1 year before enrollment. Methods The benefits of rivaroxaban monotherapy in coronary stenting subgroups were assessed for efficacy (a composite of stroke, systemic embolism, myocardial infarction, unstable angina requiring revascularization, or death of any cause), safety (major bleeding defined according to International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis criteria), ischemic endpoints, net adverse clinical event, and time between stenting and enrollment. Results Efficacy and safety endpoints for monotherapy were superior to combination therapy, with HRs of 0.70 for efficacy (95% CI: 0.50-0.98; P = 0.036) and 0.55 for safety (95% CI: 0.33-0.92; P = 0.019). For ischemic endpoints, the HR was 0.82 (95% CI: 0.58-1.15; P = 0.240). The HR became smaller with longer time between stenting and enrollment (efficacy, P for interaction = 0.158; safety, P = 0.097). Conclusions In patients with atrial fibrillation after coronary stenting, the benefits of rivaroxaban monotherapy for efficacy and safety endpoints were consistent with those in the whole AFIRE trial population. The benefits became apparent with longer time between stenting and enrollment. Recently, pretreatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has been shown to enhance the therapeutic effects of the combination therapy of ramucirumab (RAM) and docetaxel (DTX); however, its influence on the drug's side effects remains unclear. This study investigated the influence of pretreatment with ICIs on the incidence of neutropenia caused by RAM + DTX therapy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients with NSCLC who received RAM + DTX therapy at Gifu Prefectural General Medical Center between April 2016 and December 2020 were enrolled. Retrospective data regarding age, sex, performance status and detailed treatment history, among others, at treatment initiation were collected from the patients' electronic medical records. Additionally, data on the course number of RAM + DTX therapy, supportive therapy and blood biochemical parameters, including leukocyte and neutrocyte counts, during the treatment period were collected. We identified 41 patients receiving RAM + DTX therapy. Among the more than grade 3 adverse events caused by this therapy, neutropenia was the most common (78.1%). Despite the fact that all previous risk factors influencing this incidence rate had corresponded, the only factor influencing the incidence rate of neutropenia more than grade 3 was ICI treatment history. Background There are significant differences in the prevalence and prognosis of cardiovascular diseases between male and female. We previously reported that catheter ablation (CA) of atrial fibrillation (AF) was less effective in female than male, but whether their history of heart failure influence the recurrence after CA of AF remains still unknown. Purpose We sought to clarify sex differences in terms of AF recurrence after RFCA of AF according to the history of heart failure. Methods We conducted a large-scale, prospective, multicenter, observational study (Kansai Plus Atrial Fibrillation Registry). We enrolled 5010 consecutive patients who underwent an initial RFCA of AF at 26 centers (64±10 years; 1369 [27.3%] females; non-paroxysmal AF, 35.7%). The median follow-up duration was 2.9 years. Results Fourteen % of female had a history of heart failure prior to CA, while 12.8% of male had a history of heart failure at baseline (p=0.29). The 3-year cumulative incidence of AF recurrence after a single procedure was 43.3% in female and 39.0% in male (log rank P=0.0046). In patients with the history of heart failure, AF recurrence rates were 42.2% in female and 45.8% in male (log rank P=0.51). On the other hand, in patients without history of heart failure, more females experienced AF recurrence (female vs. male, 43.5% vs. 38.0%, log rank P=0.001). The rate of AF recurrence after multiple procedures was higher in female (24.2% vs. 19.6%, log rank P Conclusion The Kansai Plus Atrial Fibrillation Registry revealed a distinct sex difference in terms of the AF recurrence after CA of AF. Females had higher recurrence rates compared with males in patients without history of heart failure, while recurrence rates were similar between sexes in patients with history of heart failure. Background In catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), extensive ablation strategy, such as linear ablation and/or complex fractionated atrial electrogram (CFAE) ablation in addition to pulmonary vein isolation (PVI-plus), might impair left atrial function more severely than PVI-alone strategy. Purpose The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of extensive ablation strategy on LA function and assess the relationship between post-ablation LA function and recurrence. Methods This study is a post-hoc subanalysis of the EARNEST-PVI randomized controlled trial, which investigated the efficacy of the PVI-alone strategy in comparison with PVI-plus strategy for persistent AF. From the 497 participants of EARNEST-PVI trial, we enrolled 191 patients with full datasets of pre- and post-ablation cardiac computed tomography (CT) at our Hospital. Patients were divided into PVI-alone and PVI-plus groups. Within one month before and 3 months after ablation, LA volume index (LAVI) and LA emptying fraction (LAEF) were calculated by using the Comprehensive Cardiac Analysis software on the Extended Brilliance Workspace. We assessed i) post-ablation LA function, ii) AF/atrial tachycardia (AT) -free rate after single and final session, and iii) relationship between post-ablation LAEF and ablation success in each group. Results The indices of baseline LA remodeling were not different between PVI-alone (N=96) and PVI-plus groups (N=95) [LAVI: 71.4 (57.8, 82.0) vs. 68.7 (61.0, 78.1), P=0.92, LAEF: 13.7 (10.0, 17.4) vs. 13.0 (10.0, 16.9), PVI-alone vs. PVI-plus, P=0.78]. In overall patients, post-ablation LAEF did not differ among them [34.4 (26.1, 40.7) vs. 31.6 (26.0, 37.4), P=0.13]. In the analysis of patients showing sinus rhythm during the CT study, LAEF was significantly higher in PVI-alone (N=87) than in PVI-plus group (N=93) [35.7 (29.0, 41.0) vs. 31.7 (26.1, 37.5), P=0.011] (Figure 1A). AF/AT-free survival rate during median follow-up of 44 months was not different after first session (63.5% vs. 68.4%, P=0.33), while PVI-plus had a tendency towards higher success rate after final session (72.9% vs. 84.2%, P=0.053) (Figure 2). In receiver operating characteristics analysis for recurrence after first session, post-ablation decreased LAEF had significantly related to recurrence after PVI-alone (AUC: 0.733, P Conclusion Compared with PVI-alone strategy, PVI-plus strategy damaged LA function more severely, but tended to be related to higher success rate. Post-ablation LA function was related to recurrence in PVI-alone, but not in PVI-plus. Extensive ablation might have additional anti-arrhythmic effect regardless of iatrogenic myocardial damage. Introduction It is important to detect the recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after catheter ablation (CA) early, but the method of detection has not been established. The purpose of this study is to determine whether 24-h Holter electrocardiogram (ECG) can predict the recurrence of AF after CA. Methods We studied 336 patients of 497 patients enrolled in EARNEST-PVI trial to investigate whether the total number of premature atrial contraction (PAC) and the maximum number of PAC run by 24-h Holter ECG at 6 months after CA predicted AF recurrence after 6 months. We excluded 86 patients with recurrence by 6 months after CA and 75 patients without Holter ECG at 6 months after CA. Results Median age was 66 years, male were 77% and median follow-up period was 1138 days. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis identified the total number of PAC ≥270 beats and the maximum number of PAC run ≥8 beats as the optimal cutoff for prediction of AF recurrence. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed patients with the total number of PAC ≥270 beats had more frequent AF recurrence than those without (Kaplan-Meier estimated 3-year AF recurrence rate 34% vs. 17%, Log-rank P=0.001) and patients with the maximum number of PAC run ≥8 beats had more frequent AF recurrence than those without (Kaplan-Meier estimated 3-year AF recurrence rate 33% vs. 20%, Log-rank P=0.006). Multivariate analysis revealed that the total number of PAC ≥270 beats and the maximum number of PAC run were significantly associated with AF recurrence (hazard ratio [95% confidence interval] 1.83 [1.16–2.91], P=0.01 and 1.01 [1.01–1.02], P=0.001, respectively) Conclusion The total number of PAC and the maximum number of PAC run on the Holter ECG may be useful in predicting AF recurrence after CA. Leaf symptoms of chlorosis and blotchy mottling, typically associated with agents of huanglongbing, were found in commercial citrus orchard located in the state of Sao Paulo, the main citrus producer region in Brazil. Affected trees tested negative for bacteria ‘Ca. Liberibacter americanus’ and ‘Ca. Liberibacter asiaticus’. So, the total DNA was submitted to nested PCR employing the primer pairs P1/Tint followed by R16F2n/R16R2. Genomic fragments of 1.2 kb were amplified, sequenced and analyzed by computer-simulated RFLP, which confirmed the presence of a 16SrVII phytoplasma in symptomatic plants. Collective restriction patterns allowed distinguish the detected phytoplasma from all other members of the 16SrVII group using enzymes BfaI and MseI. In addition, the citrus phytoplasma showed a similarity coefficient lower than 0.97, when compared with all representative strains of subgroups within of the 16SrVII group, characterizing, therefore, a new subgroup. In agreement, the phylogenetic tree displayed that this strain emerges from a distinct branch in relation to those 16SrVII phytoplasmas currently described. Based on these features, the strain identified in the present study may be delineated as a new phytoplasma representative of the novel 16SrVII-G subgroup. Moreover, the results implicate citrus as a new host for a phytoplasma belonging to the group 16SrVII.

During a survey in a tomato field in Luziânia (Goiás State, Brazil), a plant showing mottling, chlorotic spots, and leaf distortion was found. A new bipartite begomovirus was found by Nanopore sequencing, and the full DNA-A sequence was confirmed by Sanger sequencing. The highest nucleotide identity match of this DNA-A genome (2596 bases) was 81.65% with tomato golden leaf deformation virus (HM357456). Due to the current species demarcation criterion of 91% of nucleotide identity (DNA-A), we propose it as a new member of the genus Begomovirus, named Tomato mottle leaf distortion virus.

Samples of the carbonaceous asteroid Ryugu were brought to Earth by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. We analyzed 17 Ryugu samples measuring 1 to 8 millimeters. Carbon dioxide–bearing water inclusions are present within a pyrrhotite crystal, indicating that Ryugu’s parent asteroid formed in the outer Solar System. The samples contain low abundances of materials that formed at high temperatures, such as chondrules and calcium- and aluminum-rich inclusions. Early results of JWST observations have delivered bright $z\gtrsim 10$ galaxy candidates in greater numbers than expected, enabling construction of the rest-frame UV luminosity functions (LFs). The LFs contain key information on the galaxy assembly history, star formation activity, and stellar population in the distant universe. Given an upper bound of the total baryonic mass inflow rate to galaxies from their parent halos estimated from abundance matching, we derive a lower bound on the product of the star formation and UV-photon production efficiency in galaxies at each redshift. This stringent constraint requires a high efficiency ($\gtrsim 10-30\%$) converting gas into stars, assuming a normal stellar population with a Salpeter-like mass distribution. The efficiency is substantially higher than those of typical nearby galaxies, but is consistent with those seen in starburst galaxies and super star clusters observed in the nearby universe. Alternatively, the star formation efficiency may be as low as a few percent, which is the average value for the entire galaxy population at $z\simeq 6$, if the stellar population is metal-free and drawn from a top-heavy mass distribution that produces more intense UV radiation. We discuss several other possible scenarios to achieve the constraint, for instance, energetic radiation produced from compact stellar-remnants and quasars, and propose ways to distinguish the scenarios by forthcoming observations., 9 pages, 2 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in ApJL

We present the average [C ii] 158 μm emission line sizes of UV-bright star-forming galaxies at z ∼ 7. Our results are derived from a stacking analysis of [C ii] 158 μm emission lines and dust continua observed by the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), taking advantage of the large program Reionization Era Bright Emission Line Survey. We find that the average [C ii] emission at z ∼ 7 has an effective radius r e of 2.2 ± 0.2 kpc. It is ≳2× larger than the dust continuum and the rest-frame UV emission, in agreement with recently reported measurements for z ≲ 6 galaxies. Additionally, we compared the average [C ii] size with 4 < z < 6 galaxies observed by the ALMA Large Program to INvestigate [C ii] at Early times (ALPINE). By analyzing [C ii] sizes of 4 < z < 6 galaxies in two redshift bins, we find an average [C ii] size of r e = 2.2 ± 0.2 kpc and r e = 2.5 ± 0.2 kpc for z ∼ 5.5 and z ∼ 4.5 galaxies, respectively. These measurements show that star-forming galaxies, on average, show no evolution in the size of the [C ii] 158 μm emitting regions at redshift between z ∼ 7 and z ∼ 4. This finding suggests that the star-forming galaxies could be morphologically dominated by gas over a wide redshift range.

We present spatially-resolved morphological properties of [CII] 158 $\mu$m, [OIII] 88 $\mu$m, dust, and rest-frame ultraviolet (UV) continuum emission for A1689-zD1, a strongly lensed, sub-L* galaxy at $z=7.13$, by utilizing deep Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and Hubble Space Telescope (HST) observations. While the [OIII] line and UV continuum are compact, the [CII] line is extended up to a radius of $r \sim 12$ kpc. Using multi-band rest-frame far-infrared (FIR) continuum data ranging from 52-400 $\mu$m, we find an average dust temperature and emissivity index of $T_{\rm dust} = 41^{+17}_{-14}$ K and $\beta = 1.7^{+1.1}_{-0.7}$, respectively, across the galaxy. We find slight differences in the dust continuum profiles at different wavelengths, which may indicate that the dust temperature decreases with distance. We map the star-formation rate (SFR) via IR and UV luminosities and determine a total SFR of $37\pm 1~M_\odot~{\rm yr}^{-1}$ with an obscured fraction of $87\%$. While the [OIII] line is a good tracer of the SFR, the [CII] line shows deviation from the local $L_{\rm [CII]}$-SFR relations in the outskirts of the galaxy. Finally, we observe a clear difference in the line profile between [CII] and [OIII], with significant residuals ($\sim 5\sigma$) in the [OIII] line spectrum after subtracting a single Gaussian model. This suggests a possible origin of the extended [CII] structure from the cooling of hot ionized outflows. We present integral field, far-infrared (FIR) spectroscopy of Mrk 54, a local Lyman Continuum Emitter (LCE), obtained with FIFI-LS on the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy. This is only the second time, after Haro 11, that [C II] 158 $\mu$m and [O III] 88 $\mu$m spectroscopy of the known LCEs have been obtained. We find that Mrk 54 has a strong [C II] emission that accounts for $\sim1$% of the total FIR luminosity, whereas it has only moderate [O III] emission, resulting in the low [O III]/[C II] luminosity ratio of $0.22\pm0.06$. In order to investigate whether [O III]/[C II] is a useful tracer of $f_{\rm esc}$ (LyC escape fraction), we examine the correlations of [O III]/[C II] and (i) the optical line ratio of $\rm O_{32} \equiv$ [O III] 5007 \AA/[O II] 3727 \AA, (ii) specific star formation rate, (iii) [O III] 88 $\mu$m/[O I] 63 $\mu$m ratio, (iv) gas phase metallicity, and (v) dust temperature based on a combined sample of Mrk 54 and the literature data from the Herschel Dwarf Galaxy Survey and the LITTLE THINGS Survey. We find that galaxies with high [O III]/[C II] luminosity ratios could be the result of high ionization (traced by $\rm O_{32}$), bursty star formation, high ionized-to-neutral gas volume filling factors (traced by [O III] 88 $\mu$m/[O I] 63 $\mu$m), and low gas-phase metallicities, which is in agreement with theoretical predictions. We present an empirical relation between the [O III]/[C II] ratio and $f_{\rm esc}$ based on the combination of the [O III]/[C II] and $\rm O_{32}$ correlation, and the known relation between $\rm O_{32}$ and $f_{\rm esc}$. The relation implies that high-redshift galaxies with high [O III]/[C II] ratios revealed by ALMA may have $f_{\rm esc}\gtrsim0.1$, significantly contributing to the cosmic reionization., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures, Accepted for publication in ApJ

We conducted a deep spectroscopic survey, named SSA22-HIT, in the SSA22 field with the DEep Imaging MultiObject Spectrograph (DEIMOS) on the Keck telescope, designed to tomographically map high-z H i gas through analysis of Lyα absorption in background galaxies’ spectra. In total, 198 galaxies were spectroscopically confirmed at 2.5 < z < 6 with a few low-z exceptions in the 26 × 15 arcmin2 area, of which 148 were newly determined in this study. Our redshift measurements were merged with previously confirmed redshifts available in the 34 × 27 arcmin2 area of the SSA22 field. This compiled catalog containing 730 galaxies of various types at z > 2 is useful for various applications, and it is made publicly available. Our SSA22-HIT survey has increased by approximately twice the number of spectroscopic redshifts of sources at z > 3.2 in the observed field. From a comparison with publicly available redshift catalogs, we show that our compiled redshift catalog in the SSA22 field is comparable to those among major extragalactic survey fields in terms of a combination of wide area and high surface number density of objects at z > 2. About 40% of the spectroscopically confirmed objects in SSA22-HIT show reasonable quality of spectra in the wavelengths shorter than Lyα when a sufficient amount of smoothing is adopted. Our data set enables us to make the H i tomographic map at z ≳ 3, which we present in a parallel study.

In the last decade, heavy-ion based experiments (HypHI, STAR and ALICEi ) announced surprisingly short lifetime for 3 ΛH mesonic weak decay (MWD), which is difficult to interpret given the fact that 3 ΛH is a very loosely bound system. It will be very interesting to study this issue with a different experimental approach. We propose a direct measurement for 3 ΛH hypernucleus MWD lifetime with ∼10% precision as J-PARC E73 experiment; 4 ΛH hypernucleus lifetime will also be measured as a feasibility test for our experimental approach. In this proceeding, we will introduce the experimental method and the current status of E73 experiment.

We present new observations with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array for a gravitationally-lensed galaxy at $z=9.1$, MACS1149-JD1. [O III] 88-$\mu$m emission is detected at 10$\sigma$ with a spatial resolution of $\sim0.3$ kpc in the source plane, enabling the most distant morpho-kinematic study of a galaxy. The [O III] emission is distributed smoothly without any resolved clumps and shows a clear velocity gradient with $\Delta V_{\rm obs}/2\sigma_{\rm tot}=0.84\pm0.23$, where $\Delta V_{\rm obs}$ is the observed maximum velocity difference and $\sigma_{\rm tot}$ is the velocity dispersion measured in the spatially-integrated line profile, suggesting a rotating system. Assuming a geometrically thin self-gravitating rotation disk model, we obtain $V_{\rm rot}/\sigma_V=0.67_{-0.26}^{+0.73}$, where $V_{\rm rot}$ and $\sigma_V$ are the rotation velocity and velocity dispersion, respectively, still consistent with rotation. The resulting disk mass of $0.65_{-0.40}^{+1.37}\times10^{9}$ M$_\odot$ is consistent with being associated with the stellar mass identified with a 300 Myr-old stellar population independently indicated by a Balmer break in the spectral energy distribution. We present updated measurements of the [O III] 88 $\mu$m, [C II] 158 $\mu$m, and dust continuum emission from a star-forming galaxy at $z=7.212$, SXDF-NB1006-2, by utilizing Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) archival data sets analysed in previous studies and data sets that have not been analysed before. The follow-up ALMA observations with higher angular resolution and sensitivity reveal a clumpy structure of the [O III] emission on a scale of $0.32-0.85\,\rm{kpc}$. We also combined all the ALMA [O III] ([C II]) data sets and updated the [O III] ([C II]) detection to $5.9\sigma$ ($3.6\sigma-4.5\sigma$). The non-detection of [C II] with data from the REBELS large program implies the incompleteness of spectral-scan surveys using [C II] to detect galaxies with high star formation rates (SFRs) but marginal [C II] emission at high-$z$. Context. Infrared (IR), sub-millimetre (sub-mm), and millimetre (mm) databases contain a huge quantity of high-quality data. However, a large part of these data are photometric, and they are thought not to be useful to derive quantitative information on the nebular emission of galaxies. Aims. The aim of this project is first to identify galaxies at z ≳ 4–6 and in the epoch of reionisation from their sub-millimetre colours. We also aim to show that the colours can be used to try and derive physical constraints from photometric bands when accounting for the contribution from the IR fine structure lines to these photometric bands. Methods. We modelled the flux of IR fine structure lines with CLOUDY and added them to the dust continuum emission with CIGALE. Including (or not) emission lines in the simulated spectral energy distribution (SED) modifies the broad-band emission and colours. Results. The introduction of the lines allows us to identify strong star forming galaxies at z ≳ 4–6 from the [log10(PSW250μm)/(PMW350μm) versus log10(LABOCA870μm)/(PLW500μm)] colour-colour diagram. By comparing the relevant models to each observed galaxy colour, we are able to roughly estimate the fluxes of the lines and the associated nebular parameters. This method allows us to identify a double sequence in a plot built from the ionisation parameter and the gas metallicity. Conclusions. The HII and photodissociation region fine structure lines are an essential part of the SEDs. It is important to add them when modelling the spectra, especially at z ≳ 4–6, where their equivalent widths can be large. Conversely, we show that we can extract some information on strong-IR fine structure lines and on the physical parameters related to the nebular emission from IR colour-colour diagrams.

MnNb3S6 is a monoaxial chiral magnet and stabilizes magnetic solitons in the presence of a magnetic field ( H). The number of solitons can be controlled by varying H. Furthermore, MnNb3S6 exhibits magnetization relaxation due to soliton annihilation, that is, a nonequilibrium chiral soliton lattice (CSL) state. In this study, we observed soliton locking phenomena in a CSL state on bulk MnNb3S6 crystal, as on micro-processed crystals of CrNb3S6. Thus, we could create nonequilibrium and equilibrium CSL states and switch between them. A numerical simulation revealed that the soliton number was preserved in the soliton locking region; thus, magnetization relaxation was not observed.
