Abstract Vibrational spectroscopy allows us to understand complex physical and chemical interactions of molecular crystals and liquids such as ammonia, which has recently emerged as a strong hydrogen fuel candidate to support a sustainable society. We report inelastic neutron scattering measurement of vibrational properties of ammonia along the solid-to-liquid phase transition with high enough resolution for direct comparisons to ab-initio simulations. Theoretical analysis reveals the essential role of nuclear quantum effects (NQEs) for correctly describing the intermolecular spectrum as well as high energy intramolecular N-H stretching modes. This is achieved by training neural network models using ab-initio path-integral molecular dynamics (PIMD) simulations, thereby encompassing large spatiotemporal trajectories required to resolve low energy dynamics while retaining NQEs. Our results not only establish the role of NQEs in ammonia but also provide general computational frameworks to study complex molecular systems with NQEs.

Inelastic neutron scattering is used to study the magnetic excitations of the S=1 square-lattice antiferromagnet La_{2}NiO_{4}. We find that the spin waves cannot be described by a simple classical (harmonic) Heisenberg model with only nearest-neighbor interactions. The spin-wave dispersion measured along the antiferromagnetic Brillouin-zone boundary shows a minimum energy at the (1/2,0) position as is observed in some S=1/2 square-lattice antiferromagnets. Thus, our results suggest that the quantum dispersion renormalization effects or longer-range exchange interactions observed in cuprates and other S=1/2 square-lattice antiferromagnets are also present in La_{2}NiO_{4}. We also find that the overall intensity of the spin-wave excitations is suppressed relative to linear spin-wave theory, indicating that covalency is important. Two-magnon scattering is also observed.

The purpose of the research is to study repellent efficacy of Cyfluthrin-based drug against dipterans in young cattle.Materials and methods. In July to September (the peak of attacks by dipterans), two farm scale trials were conducted on two farms in the Stavropol Territory to study repellent efficacy of Cyfluthrin-based drug against dipterans on young cattle. The examining of the animals at the beginning of the trial found that all of them were attacked by dipterans including horseflies, gadflies, mosquitoes, midges and zoophilous flies with 100% infection prevalence and an abundance index of 23.0–35.5 specimens on one animal. The animals in two study groups received the test drug on dry, intact skin of the back, along the spine from the withers to the rump, once at a dose of 0.2 mL of the drug per 10 kg of animal weight. The drug efficacy was assessed based on a decrease in the number or absence of dipterans in the treated animals as compared to the untreated animals (control groups) before the trial and at day 3, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35. We used a visual inspection technique and counting of the number of dipterans on an animal for 3 minutes.Results and discussion. The use of the Cyfluthrin-based drug at a dose of 0.2 mL per 10 kg of animal weight showed a 100% repellent effect against dipterans. The repellent index was in the range of 78.6–96.4% for 28 days, which is higher than 70%, which indicates a high repellent effect of the drug against dipterans.

The purpose of the research is to study persistent activity and therapeutic efficacy of Delcid® 7.5 against scab mites Psoroptes ovis in sheep.Materials and methods. The studies were performed in the Bukhty peasant farm enterprise in November 2021 on the Kizlyarsky District winter pastures in the Republic of Dagestan. Three groups of sheep were formed, of which two groups (second and third) had a confirmed clinical diagnosis of psoroptic mange (P. ovis) and one group (first) was free from scab mites. Sheep from the first and second groups were treated with Delcid at a dose of 10 ml of the drug per animal. After 10 days, sheep from the second group were treated with the drug repeatedly at the same dose. Sheep from the first and second groups were treated with the drug applied on dry and intact skin of the back along the spine using the drop method. The third control (infected) group of animals was not treated. All experimental groups of sheep were kept in a common flock. The Delcid persistent activity and thera-peutic efficacy were evaluated by clinical examination and microscopy of the skin for P. ovis mites before the experiment started and at 1, 3, 7, 10, 14, 21, 25 and 30 days after treatment in the first group and at 1, 3, 7, 11, 13, 17, 20, 24, 31, 35 and 40 days in the second and third groups of sheep.Results and discussion. It was found that Delcid 7.5 showed persistent activity in sheep against psoroptic mange pathogens for 21 days after a single treatment at a dose of 10 ml per animal. Delcid acaricidal effect after double treatment against P. ovis was 31 days.

The aim. To assess the general condition, laboratory parameters, quality of life of women of post-reproductive age after asymptomatic COVID-19 and 12 months after moderate COVID-19. Material and methods. We examined 47 women (45–69 years old), divided into 3 groups: those who did not have COVID-19, not vaccinated (group 1 – control; n = 15); women 12 months after moderate COVID-19, accompanied by pneumonia (group 2; n = 19); women with IgG in their blood who deny any symptoms of COVID-19 (group 3; n = 13). Results and discussion. An assessment of the general condition of women in post-reproductive age was carried out. In women 12 months after COVID-19 we found a lower level of total bilirubin compared to the group with asymptomatic COVID-19 (p = 0.004). An increase in thrombin time was determined in the groups of patients with symptomatic (p = 0.014) and asymptomatic (p = 0.025) COVID-19 course compared with the control group. Patients with asymptomatic COVID-19 course had a higher level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol compared with the control group (p = 0.016) and the group 2 (p = 0.006). Compared with the control group, the group 2 had lower scores for general health (p = 0.006), vital activity (p = 0.013), general physical well-being (p = 0.039), physical functioning (p = 0.046); and the group 3 had higher scores in role functioning due to physical condition (p = 0.049). When comparing groups 2 and 3, lower scores in the group of women who recovered from the moderate COVID-19 were found in physical functioning (p = 0.002), pain intensity (p = 0.034), role functioning due to physical condition (p = 0.049), general health (p = 0.003), vital activity (p = 0.018), general physical well-being (p = 0.001). Conclusion. 12 months after moderate COVID-19, there is a pronounced deterioration in physical and emotional health; and in asymptomatic patients, better protective functions of an organism can be assumed.

The aim of this work was to study the levels of podocalyxin and β-2-microglobulin and parameters of lipid metabolism and carbonyl stress in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients with different levels of albuminuria.Materials and methods. 56 men of reproductive age with T1DM were divided into two groups: 24 patients with stage A1 albuminuria (group A1) and 32 patients with stage A2 albuminuria (group A2). The control group consisted of 28 healthy men. The levels of renal function markers, lipid metabolism parameters, and methylglyoxal were assessed using enzyme immunoassay and spectrophotometric and fluorometric methods.Results. Higher values for total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, and very-low-density lipoprotein medians in both groups A1 and A2 were found. In these groups, increased podocalyxin and methylglyoxal medians were revealed. Correlation analysis in the group A1 showed the presence of a relationship between the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and creatinine. In the group A2, correlations between the generally accepted parameters of kidney injury (the albumin / creatinine ratio and GFR) and the duration of the disease and between GFR and the creatinine and methylglyoxal levels in the blood were identified. The podocalyxin level in this group correlated with the β2- microglobulin and methylglyoxal levels and lipid metabolism parameters. The level of β2-microglobulin correlated with the lipid metabolism parameters.Conclusion. Regardless of the level of albuminuria, men with T1DM had significantly increased levels of podocalyxin, lipid metabolism parameters, and methylglyoxal, as well as strong relationships between these parameters. The data of this study can be used for development of potential strategies for prevention and early treatment of diabetic nephropathy.

CrGeTe3 is a van der Waals honeycomb ferromagnet, known for exhibiting strong coupling between lattice and spin degrees of freedom. Here, Chen et al perform neutron scattering on CrGeTe3, find a broadened spin-wave excitation resulting from zero-temperature motion of the atoms in the lattice.

The aim of this research was to assess the level of lipid oxidation products level and the antioxidant defense state in young male patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) depending on the disease duration. Materials and Methods: A total of 57 men of young reproductive age (average age of 30.25±8.51 years) with T1DM and an unsatisfactory glycemic profile, depending on the disease duration, were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 included 29 men (average age of 27.69±6.92 years) with a T1DM duration

The aim of our research was to assess the intensity of oxidative stress (OS) in children and adolescents with COVID-19 using the oxidative stress index (OSI). Methods and Results: The study was conducted between May 2020 and March 2021. The main group included 17 children and adolescents [8(47.1%) boys and 9(52.9%) girls; mean age of 12.35±4.01 years] with diagnosed COVID-19 infection (mild to moderate course) selected as a result of the primary diagnostic examination from among those admitted to hospitalization at the Irkutsk Regional Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital. The control group included 17 healthy children and adolescents (average age of 12.35±4.01 years) matched by copy-pair type. The obtained data indicated statistically significant differences in a number of parameters between children and adolescents with COVID-19 and the control groups. BACKGROUND: Diabetic nephropathy is a specific kidney damage that affects up to 40% of type 1 diabetes mellitus patients. There is still insufficient knowledge about oxidative stress at the different levels of albuminuria.AIM: To assess the indicators of oxidative damage to lipids, DNA and antioxidant defense in men with type 1 diabetes mellitus and albuminuria different levels.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was conducted during 2018–2019. The main group included 56 men of reproductive age with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) divided into 2 groups: 24 patients with albuminuria level A1 (group A1) and 32 patients with albuminuria level A2 (group A2). The control group consisted of 28 healthy men. The oxidative stress indicators content, as well as the activity of antioxidant defense system various links was evaluated. Spectrophotometric, fluorimetric and enzyme immunoassay methods were used.RESULTS: In patients of the A1 group there were higher values of the median of primary — conjugated dienes, secondary — ketodienes and conjugated trienes, final — Schiff bases products and 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine in comparison with the control. Similar changes in patients of the A2 group were found. Intergroup differences related to increased median values of TBARs and 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine in patients of the A2 group compared with A1 group. The activity of the antioxidant defense system in A1 group relative to the control by increased values of the glutathione peroxidase, reduced glutathione, oxidized glutathione median, and retinol was characterized. A2 group had higher values of glutathione peroxidase, reduced glutathione and oxidized glutathione medians in comparison with controls. Correlation analysis in A1 group showed the relationships between the duration of the disease and the products of lipid peroxidation, glycated hemoglobin with 8-hydroxy-2’-deoxyguanosine. In A2 group, there was a relationship between the albumin/creatinine ratio and the duration of the disease, glomerular filtration rate and creatinine level.CONCLUSION: In men with T1DM, regardless of the albuminuria level, there are higher values of the oxidative damage lipids and DNA parameters, as well as the presence of close relationships between these parameters and the duration of the disease, which can be used to develop potential strategies for the prevention and early therapy of diabetic nephropathy.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the integral oxidative stress index (OSI) level in Asian girls and boys with exogenous-constitutional obesity. Methods and Results: A total of 170 Asian adolescents aged 12-18 years were examined: 26 girls and 28 boys with constitutional obesity (main group, MG); 59 girls and 57 boys - healthy adolescents (control group, CG). The levels of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products and antioxidant defense (AOD) parameters were detected using spectrophotometric and fluorometric methods. The level of LPO products and AOD components in the studied groups were assessed to calculate the integral OSI. Significant increases in the levels of primary LPO products (conjugated dienes by 2.18 times) and secondary LPO products (ketodienes and conjugated trienes by 2.48 times) in the obese Asian girls, compared with the control values, were observed. We found a significant decrease in the parameters of the AOD system in the obese Asian girls, compared with the control values: α-tocopherol (by 1.41 times; P=0.0262), retinol (by 1.12 times; P=0.0306), and SOD activity (by 1.28 times; P=0.0004). In the obese Asian boys, increased values of LPO components were found, compared to controls: conjugated dienes (by 2.13 times), ketodienes and conjugated trienes (by 3.4 times), final thiobarbituric acid reactants of LPO (by 1.24 times). They showed a statistically significant decrease in the level of α-tocopherol (by 1.49 times), compared with the control values. According to the obtained data, OSI in the group of Asian girls with obesity was 15.68 units, in the group of Asian boys with obesity - 22.89 units. The OSI in the group of Asian boys was higher (by 1.46 times) than in the obese girls. Conclusion: Certain OSI levels are consistent with the presence of antioxidant insufficiency in exogenous-constitutional obesity and allow us to specify and evaluate the ethnic aspect of the severity of the pathological process more reliably.

Introduction. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, it seems relevant to study the clinical features and the effect of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the reproductive system and male fertility.The study objective was to assess the intensity of oxidative processes in the seminal plasma of men with pathozoospermia after suffering a COVID-19 infection.Materials and methods. Spermogram parameters were assessed in accordance with the criteria of the 2010 WHO Guidelines, 5th edition, for the study and processing of human ejaculate two to three months after the patient received a negative polymerase chain reaction result of a nasopharyngeal swab for SARS-CoV-2 DNA. The intensity of free radical processes in seminal plasma was investigated by the method of chemiluminescence induced by ions of bivalent iron. Results. A decrease in sperm motility and an increase in the number of leukocytes were found in men with pathozoospermia who had undergone COVID-19 infection. There are lower levels of indicators such as ejaculate volume, total sperm concentration and the number of morphologically normal sperm forms. An increased ability to generate reactive oxygen species in seminal plasma was revealed in pathozoospermia and COVID-19.Conclusions. The results obtained indicate that SARS-CoV-2 affects the male reproductive system directly or indirectly and has a negative effect on male reproductive health, causing the activation of lipid peroxidation processes and spermatogenic insufficiency.

Obstructive jaundice caused by cholangiocarcinoma takes a special place among malignant disorders and surgical pathology in Russia. Involvement of nonspecific immunity and the role of neutrophils in carcinogenesis are ambiguously evaluated. The aim of this study was to study functional activity of peripheral blood neutrophilic granulocytes and their phenotype in obstructive jaundice caused by cholangiocarcinoma. The study included 56 patients with obstructive jaundice associated with cholangiocarcinoma at the T2- 3N0- 1M0 stage (clinical stages II-III), and 90 apparently healthy volunteers of similar age group. Neutrophilic granulocytes were isolated from peripheral blood by means of double-density Ficoll-Urografin gradient.Venous blood was collected in patients into vacutainers with heparin upon admission to the hospital, before the surgery was performed. Spontaneous cytokine production (IL-8, IFNá) was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using Vector-Best diagnostic kits. To assess phagocytic activity of neutrophilic granulocytes, the phagocytic index (according to Hamburger), number of phagocytes (according to Wright) and the index of completed phagocytosis (according to Rudik, 2006) were calculated. Immunophenotyping of neutrophilic granulocytes was carried out using an FC500 flow cytometer (Beckman Coulter, USA) with monoclonal antibodies to CD11b+, CD16+, CD95+. The results were statistically analyzed using the Statistica v.12.0 software (StatSoft Inc., USA). To assess intergroup differences, the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis tests (for three or more comparison groups) and Mann-Whitney tests (for pairwise comparison) were used. Comparison of groups for a qualitative binary trait was carried out using the two-sided Fisher’s exact test. Data are presented as Median (25 quartile-75 quartile).The study of the functional activity of peripheral blood neutrophiles in obstructive jaundice patients caused by cholangiocarcinoma revealed an increase in their relative and absolute number, increased phagocytic index and decreased phagocytic number of neutrophilic granulocytes, increased expression of CD11b+, CD16+, CD95+ immunological markers. The changes in neutrophil secretory activity were characterized by a decrease in cytokine production (IL-2, IFNá). An increase in functional activity of neutrophilic granulocytes, along with a decrease in their cytokine production suggests that, in obstructive jaundice observed in cholangiocarcinoma at clinical stage T2-3N0-1M0, an equilibrium stage is revealed between the cells of immune system and malignant tumor.

Background.Heat shock effects can initiate apoptosis of oocytes and corpus luteum cells in mammalian ovaries. During folliculogenesis, follicular apoptosis is regulated by Bcl-2 and BAX proteins which are key effectors of granular cell death. Mechanisms of disruption of the ovarian corpus luteum development under heat stress remain largely unclear.Aim of the research: to identify the expression features of anti-apoptotic Bad and proapoptotic Bcl-2 proteins in the rat ovarian luteocytes in the acute (by day 3) and recovery (by days 7 and 14) periods after a single exposure of experimental hyperthermia (EH) (rectal temperature 43.5 °C).Materials and methods. The expression of Bad and Bcl-2 was determined immunohistochemically using an indirect two-stage streptavidin-biotin method.Results. On day 3 after EH, the expression areas of both Bad and Bcl-2 increased 2-fold, but the ratio of Bcl-2/Bad areas did not change, indicating that the intensity of apoptosis along the mitochondrial pathway in luteocytes in the acute period was maintained within physiological values. On day 7, the Bad and Bcl-2 expression areas remained at the level of day 3, but the Bcl-2/Bad index decreased, indicating the activation of the apoptosis internal pathway in the ovarian corpus luteum cells. By day 14, the protein expression areas decreased (Bad – by 1.7 times, Bcl-2 – by 3.2 times) compared to the acute period, and the Bcl-2/Bad index decreased by 2 times compared to the control and the acute period group.Conclusion. The observed predominance of proapoptotic Bad protein over antiapoptotic Bcl-2 in luteocytes on day 14 after EH indicates the anti-apoptotic protection violation, which leads to the apoptosis mitochondrial pathway activation of the latter. A decrease in Bcl-2 expression can be regarded as a manifestation of the defective luteocytes removal mechanism and the body’s desire to normalize the ovarian-uterine cycle disrupted by high temperature exposure.

Abstract The production of $$K^{0}_{S}$$ K S 0 mesons in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momentum 158 $$\text{ GeV }/c$$ GeV / c ( $$\sqrt{s_{NN}}=17.3$$ s NN = 17.3 $$\text{ GeV }$$ GeV ) was measured with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. Double-differential distributions were obtained in transverse momentum and rapidity. The mean multiplicity of $$K^{0}_{S}$$ K S 0 was determined to be $$0.162 \pm 0.001 (stat.) \pm 0.011 (sys.)$$ 0.162 ± 0.001 ( s t a t . ) ± 0.011 ( s y s . ) . The results on $$K^{0}_{S}$$ K S 0 production are compared with model predictions (EPOS 1.99, SMASH 2.0, PHSD and UrQMD 3.4 models) as well as with published world data.

Background. The COVID-19 pandemic has raised the importance of this problem to the first stage and has affected healthcare system around the world. Despite the more favorable COVID-19 course, the child population should be at focus of special attention, due to the active participation in its distribution. The course of COVID-19 includes a cascade of pathological processes accompanied by the generation of reactive oxygen species, which can have extremely negative consequences for the developing organism. The research of these processes in children is vital and will improve the effectiveness of preventive and therapeutic measures. The aim: to analyze changes in enzymatic and non-enzymatic links in the antioxidant defense in children and adolescents with diagnosed COVID-19 infection.Materials and methods. 17 children and adolescents (average age – 12.35 ± 4.01 years) were examined, including 8 boys (47 %) and 9 girls (53 %) with COVID-19 infection. The control group of children and adolescents (practically healthy) according to the «copy-pair» principle was selected. We used spectrophotometric methods.Results. In the group of children and adolescents with diagnosed COVID-19 infection, there were lower levels of total antioxidant activity (p < 0.0001), superoxide dismutase activity (p < 0.0001), content of reduced glutathione (p = 0.048) and retinol (p = 0.015), increase in glutathione reductase activity (p = 0.015) relative to the control.Conclusion. The obtained data indicate the insufficiency of antioxidant system components number in children and adolescents with diagnosed COVID-19 infection and indicate the advisability of antioxidant therapy using to stabilize these indicators.

The interrelation of the severity of the epidemiological situation in a particular country and its institutional characteristics (including the level of health care, quality of management, the level of public trust, cultural characteristics, etc.) is considered. As a result, using the developed index of the severity of the epidemiological situation, the institutional characteristics that most affect the effectiveness of the measures applied were determined. It was figured out that of the 16 characteristics considered, only two (the level of employment and trust in the government) have a medium statistical correlation with the severity of the pandemic. Three more characteristics (prevalence of secular-rational values, degree of urbanization, GDP PPP per capita) have a correlation close to the medium. The remaining characteristics (including health care costs, government efficiency, etc.) have either a weak correlation wiыth severity, or actually do not have it. The results obtained indicate insufficient use and reassessment of existing institutional capacities at the initial stage of the pandemic, as well as insufficient reliability of morbidity and mortality statistics in a number of countries. In conclusion, based on the analysis of statistical indicators, recommendations are given to improve the effectiveness of the use of institutional capacity to counter epidemiological threats, improve this potential, increase the effectiveness of protective and restrictive measures that reduce the severity of the epidemiological situation.

Abstract Double-differential yields of $${\Xi \left( 1530\right) ^{0}} $$ Ξ 1530 0 and $${\overline{\Xi }\left( 1530\right) ^{0}} $$ Ξ ¯ 1530 0 resonances produced in p+p interactions were measured at a laboratory beam momentum of 158 $$\text{ GeV }\!/\!c$$ GeV / c . This measurement is the first of its kind in p+p interactions below LHC energies. It was performed at the CERN SPS by the NA61/SHINE collaboration. Double-differential distributions in rapidity and transverse momentum were obtained from a sample of $$26\times 10^6$$ 26 × 10 6 inelastic events. The spectra are extrapolated to full phase space resulting in mean multiplicity of $${\Xi \left( 1530\right) ^{0}} $$ Ξ 1530 0 ( $$6.73 \pm 0.25\pm 0.67)\times 10^{-4}$$ 6.73 ± 0.25 ± 0.67 ) × 10 - 4 and $${\overline{\Xi }\left( 1530\right) ^{0}} $$ Ξ ¯ 1530 0 ( $$2.71 \pm 0.18\pm 0.18)\times 10^{-4}$$ 2.71 ± 0.18 ± 0.18 ) × 10 - 4 . The rapidity and transverse momentum spectra and mean multiplicities were compared to predictions of string-hadronic and statistical model calculations.

The pandemic of COVID-19, the threat of technogenic and anthropogenic character, brought to the foreground non-market aspects of the general, corporate branch culture and strategy in medicine and health care. Therefore, in many countries, despite differences in state and private property ratios in health infrastructure, the state priority is ensuring cooperation within the national health care system which capable quickly and well-coordinated work in the extremely dangerous epidemics conditions and other emergency situations. The purpose of this article is discussing a problem of public and private models of medical care organization in Russian health care system.Materials and methods. Content analysis methods, economical and statistical analysis, information and analytical materials of the Russian and foreign news agencies, a summary across Russia of Rosstat form No. 62 of the state statistical observation «Data on resource providing and on delivery of health care to the population» (legal entities - the medical organizations which are carrying out activity in the sphere of compulsory health insurance), analytical materials and statistical data of World Health Organization (The European portal of information of health care of WHO: https://gateway.euro.who.int/en/hfa-explorer/), statistical data and metadata on the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, https://stats.oecd.org/), the materials of monographic researches and periodicals including placed on the Internet were used in this article.Results: the system of compulsory health insurance is an ancestor of the program of the state guarantees of free medical care of in Russian citizens. The length of the text of this Program so far was increased in 130 times in comparison with initial edition of 1998. At the same time, there is still no clear delineation for the bases, volumes and conditions differentiation of free and paid medical care rendering. As a result, the major human right to free medical care remains not completely realized. The numbers of the non-state medical organizations to provide free of charge medical care to the population according to the policy of obligatory medical insurance (i.e. financed from the state sources) in the period of 2011 to 2019 – from 648 to 2423 organizations respectively were increased in Russia four times. This demonstrates the creation of the new, «integrated» model of health care in Russia in the mode of public and private partnership for deciding of social tasks. Although, free medical care for citizens in the private medical organizations is not mentioned in the Constitution of Russian Federation (Main Law). In emergency situations such integration allows private medical structures to involve capacities and also be coordinated with one of the tasks of the Ministry of health target program «Development of the Fundamental, Transmitting and Personalized Medicine».Conclusions. There is a formation of the integrated, public and private (hybrid) model of health care in modern Russia that needs developing of a new partnership and principles of management in the sphere of medical care organization. State policy in the health care financing sphere should be directed not only to the state guarantees of medical care specification, but also to a gap in social and economic inequality reduction. The social protection systems should be focused, first of all, on people who are most in great need of medical care. For the protecting population from catastrophic payments for medical care, it is necessary to bring the concept of the social standards - a number of the general rules, norms and standards which must guarantee the state ensuring constitutional rights of citizens to free medical care in the health care legislation.

Abstract CrSBr is an air‐stable two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals semiconducting magnet with great technological promise, but its atomic‐scale magnetic interactions—crucial information for high‐frequency switching—are poorly understood. An experimental study is presented to determine the CrSBr magnetic exchange Hamiltonian and bulk magnon spectrum. The A‐type antiferromagnetic order using single crystal neutron diffraction is confirmed here. The magnon dispersions are also measured using inelastic neutron scattering and rigorously fit the excitation modes to a spin wave model. The magnon spectrum is well described by an intra‐plane ferromagnetic Heisenberg exchange model with seven nearest in‐plane exchanges. This fitted exchange Hamiltonian enables theoretical predictions of CrSBr behavior: as one example, the fitted Hamiltonian is used to predict the presence of chiral magnon edge modes with a spin‐orbit enhanced CrSBr heterostructure.

To date, the factors affecting the course of the reparative process after non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) have not been fully determined. There is no systematic information about the regulatory role of the cytokines TGF-β, IL-6, IL-8 and MMP-9, VEGF A 121 and 165 in the formation mechanisms of the newly created pathways consistency of intraocular aqueous humor outflow.Purpose. To determine possible ways of impact of biologically active aqueous humor molecules of the anterior chamber and lacrimal fluid on the hypotensive effect of non-penetrating deep sclerectomy.Methods. A prospective study of 65 patients with open-angle glaucoma before and 12 months after NPDS and 22 patients without eye hydrodynamic disorders with the determination of the initial concentrations of biologically active molecules in the lacrimal fluid and aqueous humor of the anterior chamber. Twelve months after NPDS all patients were divided into three groups, depending on the hypotensive effect of the operation, according to the criteria.Results. Multivariate discriminant analysis showed the greatest inter-group differences, calculated by the square of the Mahalanobis distance, between group 3 with no hypotensive effect of NPDS and the control group (R2 = 8.48, p = 0.001). The most informative features that determine the differences between the 4 groups in the total population, calculated according to the Fischer F-test, were MMP-9 (F = 14.7, p = 0.001) and TGF-β (F = 7.08, p = 0.001) in the aqueous humor of the anterior chamber. In pairwise comparison of groups 1 and 2, the maximum level of significance according to the F-criterion was characteristic of the level of tear IL-6 (F = 21.25, p = 0.001), with approximately equal degree – IL-8 (F = 7.85, p = 0.001) and VEGF (F = 7.12, p = 0.001), to a lesser extent TGF of aqueous humor (F = 4.43, p = 0.001) and MMR-9 (F = 2.23, p = 0.001). Between groups 1–3, the maximum differences according to the Fisher criterion were observed in the IL-8 (F = 20.99, p = 0.001), TGF (F = 8.75, p = 0.001) and to a lesser extent – TGF (F = 5.83, p = 0.001).Conclusion. The analysis of the obtained data showed the decisive role of the imbalance of proinflammatory cytokines, signaling proteins with prolymphoangiogenic activity, and MMP-9 in the aqueous humor of the anterior chamber, as well as in the initial state of the lacrimal fluid in the postoperative healing processes after NPDS.

Abstract The physics goal of the strong interaction program of the NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) is to study the phase diagram of hadronic matter by a scan of particle production in collisions of nuclei with various sizes at a set of energies covering the SPS energy range. This paper presents differential inclusive spectra of transverse momentum, transverse mass and rapidity of $$\pi ^{-}$$ π - mesons produced in central $${}^{40}$$ 40 Ar+ $${}^{45}$$ 45 Sc collisions at beam momenta of 13A, 19A, 30A, 40A, 75A and 150 $$A\,\text{ Ge }\text{ V }\!/\!\textit{c}$$ A Ge V / c . Energy and system size dependence of parameters of these distributions – mean transverse mass, the inverse slope parameter of transverse mass spectra, width of the rapidity distribution and mean multiplicity – are presented and discussed. Furthermore, the dependence of the ratio of the mean number of produced pions to the mean number of wounded nucleons on the collision energy was derived. The results are compared to predictions of several models.

Abstract Measurements of multiplicity fluctuations of identified hadrons produced in inelastic p+p interactions at 31, 40, 80, and 158 $$\text {Ge}\text {V}/c$$ Ge / c beam momentum are presented. Three different measures of multiplicity fluctuations are used: the scaled variance $$\omega $$ ω and strongly intensive measures $$\Sigma $$ Σ and $$\Delta $$ Δ . These fluctuation measures involve second and first moments of joint multiplicity distributions. Data analysis is preformed using the Identity method which corrects for incomplete particle identification. Strongly intensive quantities are calculated in order to allow for a direct comparison to corresponding results on nucleus–nucleus collisions. The results for different hadron types are shown as a function of collision energy. A comparison with predictions of string-resonance Monte-Carlo models: Epos, Smash and Venus, is also presented.

The study of the molecular mechanisms involved in adolescent obesity formation is important due to the severe and prolonged complications in adulthood. Here, we analyzed the lipid metabolism and peroxidation systems and the relationships between them in girls with constitutional obesity. Thirty-nine adolescent girls 14–16 age with constitutional obesity and twenty-six girls with a normal body mass index (control group) of the same age were examined. Spectrophotometric and fluorometric research methods were used. Constitutional obesity in adolescent girls is accompanied by the development of dyslipidemia (increased concentrations of total cholesterol, triacylglycerols, and very-low-density lipoproteins), as well as by reduced antioxidant defense components (total antioxidant activity, retinol, and the oxidized form of glutathione). In addition, adolescent girls with constitutional obesity had an increased number of correlations in the lipid peroxidation–antioxidant defense system and intersystem correlations, which indicates the insufficient activity of the antioxidant defense system. These results increase our understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms involved in adolescent.

Aim. To assess the state of the ‘lipid peroxidation – antioxidant defense’ system using an integral indicator (coefficient of oxidative stress) in women with ovarian hyperandrogenism in various periods of reproductive age.Materials and methods. During an annual preventive medical examination at the Scientific Сentre for Family Health and Human Reproduction Problems, 92 women of reproductive age (18–45 years old) were divided into a group of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) (n = 47) and a control group of healthy women (n = 45). The group of women with PCOS was further divided into subgroups according to age characteristics: the 1st subgroup consisted of women with PCOS of early reproductive age (18–35 years old), and the 2nd group had women with PCOS of late reproductive age (35–45 years old). Practically healthy women of the corresponding ages made up the 3rd and 4th control subgroups. Standard methods were used to study the LPO–antioxidant defense system. The oxidative stress severity was assessed by an integral indicator: the coefficient of oxidative stress.Results. An increase in ketodiens and coupled trienes serum levels, a decrease in reduced glutathione, α-tocopherol and retinol levels, and an increase in SOD activity in PCOS women of reproductive age (18–45 years old) were detected in comparison with the control group. Early reproductive age PCOS women also demonstrated an increase in oxidized glutathione and retinol concentration decrease. In the late reproductive age group of PCOS women, an increased superoxide dismutase activity was registered. The integral indicator of oxidative stress in the main group of women with PCOS was 2.5, which shows the enhancement of oxidative processes, and imbalance in the LPO–antioxidant defense system. This indicator was the most pronounced (2.8) in early reproductive age women. In women of late reproductive age, this indicator was equal to 1.9.Conclusion. The obtained data indicate the development of oxidative stress in women with ovarian hyperandrogenism, which is mоre pronounced in the group of late reproductive age women.

Aim. To assess the resistance of soils in the south of Russia to silver pollution using biological indicators.Methods. The contamination of soils in southern Russia (ordinary chernozem, grey sandy and brown forest soils) was simulated with silver under laboratory conditions. Soils were contaminated with water‐soluble silver nitrate in order to reveal the maximum ecotoxicity of silver. Soil stability was assessed according to the most sensitive and informative biological parameters in dynamics of 10, 30 and 90 days after pollution. Results. Silver contamination inhibits the activity of oxidoreductases (catalase and dehydrogenases), reduces the total number of bacteria and the growth and development of radish. For all soils, a direct relationship was noted between silver concentration and the degree of deterioration of soil properties. The toxic effect of silver was most pronounced on the 30th day after contamination. According to their resistance to silver pollution, the soils investigated form the following sequence: ordinary chernozem> grey sandy soil ≥ brown forest soil. Conclusion. The light granulometric composition of grey sandy soils and the acidic reaction of the environment of brown forest soils, as well as the low organic matter content, contribute to the high mobility and high ecotoxicity of silver in these soils. Regional maximum permissible concentrations (MPCs) of silver content in ordinary chernozems, grey sandy and brown forest soils have been determined as ‐ 4.4, 0.9 and 0.8 mg/kg, respectively.

Abstract The NA61/SHINE experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) studies the onset of deconfinement in hadron matter by a scan of particle production in collisions of nuclei with various sizes at a set of energies covering the SPS energy range. This paper presents results on inclusive double-differential spectra, transverse momentum and rapidity distributions and mean multiplicities of $$\pi ^\pm $$ π ± , $$K^\pm $$ K ± , p and $$\bar{p}$$ p ¯ produced in the 20% most central $$^7$$ 7 Be+ $$^9$$ 9 Be collisions at beam momenta of 19A, 30A, 40A, 75A and 150A $${\mathrm{Ge} \mathrm{V}}\!/\!c$$ Ge V / c . The energy dependence of the $$K^\pm $$ K ± / $$\pi ^\pm $$ π ± ratios as well as of inverse slope parameters of the $$K^\pm $$ K ± transverse mass distributions are close to those found in inelastic p+p reactions. The new results are compared to the world data on p+p and Pb+Pb collisions as well as to predictions of the Epos, Urqmd, Ampt, Phsd and Smash models.

Background: The aim of this study was to assess the dependence of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) levels on the genotype of the CLOCK 3111T/C SNP in Caucasian menopausal women with and without insomnia. Methods and Results: The study involved 105 Caucasian menopausal women volunteers aged between 45 and 60 years. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, PSQI, Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) were employed. The study of the CLOCK 3111T/C SNP (rs1801260) was performed by PCR. The blood level of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPPs) was detected by IEMA. Based on the results of a clinical-anamnestic examination, the women were divided into two groups: the main (with insomnia) and the control (without insomnia). Given the small number of women carrying the CC genotype of the CLOCK 3111T/C SNP, the СС carriers and TC carriers were combined into one group as the carriers of the minor 3111C allele. There were no statistically significant differences in the AOPP levels between carriers of different genotypes (TT genotype and TC+CC genotypes) in controls and patients. A comparative analysis of AOPP levels in the women of the main and control groups showed higher AOPP levels in women with insomnia carrying the TT genotype than in the control of the same genotype (P=0.013). Conclusion: Insomnia in menopausal women is associated with increased protein oxidation only in carriers of the TT genotype of the CLOCK 3111T/C SNP.

The aim of our study was to identify the changes in the indicators of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and antioxidant defense (AOD) in women with endocrine infertility. Methods and Results: The study included 358 women of reproductive age. Based on clinical and laboratory data, two groups were formed: the control group (CG) and the main group (MG). CG consisted of 61 healthy fertile women (mean age of 22±2.3 years). MG consisted of 297 women (mean age of 26±5.6 years) with endocrine infertility. The blood levels of antioxidant parameters (total antioxidant activity [TTA], SOD activity, α-tocopherol and retinol) and primary/secondary products of LPO (conjugated dienes [CD], ketodienes and conjugated trienes [KD-CT], and thiobarbituric acid reactants [TBARs]) were determined using spectrophotometric and fluorometric methods. The levels of sex hormones and cortisol were determined by radioimmunoassay and EIA. In MG, we found a significant increase in the blood levels of total lipid, DB, CDs, KD-CT, and TBARs, compared to CG. The results of a comparative analysis of the AOD parameters showed a significant increase in the total AOA level by 31% in MG, while the levels of α-tocopherol and retinol significantly decreased by 22% and 15%, respectively, compared to CG. In women of MG, the serum level of prolactin increased by 2 times. Conclusion: The results obtained reflect the adaptive and disadaptive mechanisms of LPO-AOD participation in the formation of female infertility of endocrine origin. The complex changes in the LPO-AOD system (increased levels of the substrates of oxidation and all intermediates of the LPO process amid falling values of the AOD parameters) indicate the presence of OS in women with endocrine infertility.

Background: The aim of this study was to estimate the blood levels of interleukins (ILs) and tissue factor (TF) in rat blood when modeling acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) in various stages and during reperfusion. Methods and Results: The study was performed on white non-linear male rats, weighing 200±25g. AMI was simulated by ligating the cranial mesenteric artery at the mesentery root. Then, at certain time intervals, a relaparotomy was performed, blood was collected, and the animals were subjected to reperfusion at different time intervals. During the experiment, the animals were divided into 3 groups depending on the time of ischemia (3 hours [n=10], 6 hours [n=10], and 8 hours [n=10]) followed by reperfusion after the indicated time of ischemia. The level of ILs (IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10) and TF in rat blood serum was determined by EIA. We found that AMI in rats is accompanied by pronounced changes in the immune system and the development of a systemic inflammatory reaction syndrome, which is aggravated by reperfusion. At the same time, the restoration of blood flow after 3-hour ischemia was characterized by an increase in the concentration of IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10; after 6-hour ischemia – by an increase in the IL-6, IL-8 content and TF, and stabilization of the IL-10 concentration. Reperfusion after 8-hour ischemia was accompanied by an increase in the IL-6 concentration, a decrease in the levels of IL-8, IL-10, and TF, which can lead to the progression of necrotic changes in the intestine. Conclusion: The detected changes can serve as laboratory markers that characterize the course and stage of acute mesenteric ischemia.

Abstract A measurement of charged hadron pair correlations in two-dimensional $$\Delta \eta \Delta \phi $$ Δ η Δ ϕ space is presented. The analysis is based on total 30 million central Be + Be collisions observed in the NA61/SHINE detector at the CERN SPS for incident beam momenta of 19A, 30A, 40A, 75A, and 150A $$\text {Ge} \text {V}/c$$ Ge / c . Measurements were carried out for unlike-sign and like-sign charge hadron pairs independently. The $$C(\Delta \eta ,\Delta \phi )$$ C ( Δ η , Δ ϕ ) correlation functions were compared with results from a similar analysis on p + p interactions at similar beam momenta per nucleon. General trends of the back-to-back correlations are similar in central Be + Be collisions and p + p interactions, but are suppressed in magnitude due to the increased combinatorial background. Predictions from the Epos and UrQMD models are compared to the measurements. Evolution of an enhancement around $$(\Delta \eta ,\Delta \phi ) = (0,0)$$ ( Δ η , Δ ϕ ) = ( 0 , 0 ) with incident energy is observed in central Be + Be collisions. It is not predicted by both models and almost non-existing in proton–proton collisions at the same momentum per nucleon.

Mechanical jaundice is a severe pathological condition caused by obstruction of the bile duct, usually requiring surgical intervention. Mechanical jaundice occurs in 45–50% of all cases of jaundice of all types, and may be of either non-tumor or tumor origin. Due to involvement of oxidative stress reactions in mechanical jaundice pathogenesis, it is relevant to study the parameters of this process. This study assesses lipid peroxidation-antioxidant defense components in men with mechanical jaundice of non-tumor and tumor origin in the context of surgical treatment. This study examined 47 men with mechanical jaundice of non-tumor origin (MJNT) and 45 men with mechanical jaundice of tumor origin (MJT) (stages I-II of the tumor process). Data from 100 healthy men served as the control. High activity of lipid peroxidation accompanied by falling concentrations of antioxidant enzymes were observed in men with MJNT. Increased primary and final lipid peroxidation products and decreases in almost all studied components of the antioxidant defense system (superoxide dismutase, glutathioneS-transferase, glutathione peroxidase, and ceruloplasmin) were observed. Similar observations emerged for patients with MJT, but with greater changes in parameters. The only indicator of difference between the groups was ceruloplasmin, with lower values in the MJT group. The MJNT group showed decreased thiobarbituric acid reactant values, catalase and ceruloplasmin both values were increased post-surgery. The post-surgery MJT group showed decreased conjugated dienes values and increased catalase and ceruloplasmin values. Thus, in MJNT patients, changes in the lipid peroxidation system relate to the stage of final products, which may serve as a favorable sign, in contrast to the MJT group, where changes concern only the stage of primary products. Based on the data obtained, antioxidant drugs are advised for patients with mechanical jaundice, with special attention given to the tumor origin of the disease.

The relevance of the research. Despite a significant amount of research of environmental pollution by polyarenes, there is insufficient information on accumulation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and in particular the most toxic benzo[a]pyrene, by various types of herbaceous plants, which determines the relevance of research in this direction. The distribution of benzo[a]pyrene over plant organs and organogenic horizons of soils in the Novocherkassk Power Station effect zone was studied. The main aim wasto study the accumulation of benzo[a]pyrene in plants of different species and the organogenic soil horizon of steppe phytocenoses depending on the distance from Novocherkassk Power Station. Objects. In the coverage area of the Novocherkassk Power Station, the samples of the aerial and root parts of plants and the underlying soil horizons of the organogenic layers were taken to a depth of 0–20 cm. For the study on monitoring sites, dominant species of herbaceous plants: ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia L.), Austrian wormwood (Artemisia austriaca Jack.), noble yarrow (Achillea nobilis L), common chicory (Cichorium intybus L.), common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare L.), creeping wheatgrass (Elytrigia repens (L.) Nevski.)were selected.The cereals: oatmeal (Avena fatua), wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), oats (Avena sativa L.), Wallis fescue or fescue (Festuca valesiaca L.), common reed (Phragmites australis L.), meadow bluegrass (Poap retense L.) were studied as well. Methods. The content of benzo[a]pyrene in plants was determined by the standard method RD 52.10.556-95 in a modification that allows removing interfering lipid macrocomponents of plants by saponification (saponification method). When benzo[a]pyrene was determined by the method of saponification, the saponifiable lipid fraction was initially removed in the samples by boiling the plant sample in an alcohol solution of alkali, followed by threefold extraction of benzo[a]pyrene with hexane. The basis for determination of benzo[a]pyrene in soils is the PND 16.1:2:2. 2:3. 39-03 technique. Quantitative determination of benzo[a]pyrene in the extract was carried out by high performance liquid chromatography. The results. Based on cluster analysis, three groups of herbaceous plants were identified by the level of benzo[a]pyrene content: weak, medium, and active accumulation. The maximum levels of benzo[a]pyrene accumulation were found for fescue, and the minimum for ragweed. It was found that the mass fraction of benzo[a]pyrene in soils and plants naturally decreased with distance from the enterprise. Maximum pollution was detected by the transect of the general direction, 1,6 km from the source. The least polluted sites were laid in the eastern direction. A study of polyarenes accumulation in different organs of plants showed that the roots of all the species studied differed the greatest pollution. The mass fraction of benzo[a]pyrene in the organogenic horizon of soils significantly exceeded its content in plants of various species.

The purpose of the research is studying the efficacy of Eprimek (Eprinomectin) against gastrointestinal nematodes in sheep.Materials and methods. A commercial experiment to study the antiparasitic efficacy of Eprimek was carried out in June 2020 on 300 lambs of the North Caucasian breed in a private flock of Filimonovskaya Village, Izobilnensky District, the Stavropol Territory, which were divided into two groups. The experimental group of lambs (290 animals) was injected Eprimek subcutaneously at the earset at a dose of 1 ml/50 kg of live weight (10 mg of Eprinomectin in 1 ml), and 10 lambs were not treated; they were used as control. We collected feces from the lambs of the experimental and control groups before administration of the drugs and after 15 and 30 days. Fecal samples were examined by the flotation technique with a saturated solution of ammonium nitrate with counting nematode eggs in 1 g of feces. The results were processed statistically.Results and discussion. Eprimek showed a decrease in the number of excreted helminth eggs from 225.1±28.2 to 4.1±2.3 in production environment at a dose of 1 ml/50 kg of live weight, according to coprological studies on the 15th day after treatment in the experimental group of lambs. The efficacy was 98.2%, and 70% of the animals were free from the infection. The intensity of infection of the control lambs by gastrointestinal nematodes was 131–151 eggs per 1 g of feces at 100% prevalence.

The purpose of the research is to analyze the economic efficiency of planned antiparasitic deworming in sheep-breeding farms by the veterinary service of the region.Materials and methods. The studies were carried out using statistical data from the Veterinary Directorate of the Stavropol Territory for 2015-2019 and guidelines for determining the economic efficiency of antiparasitic measures. Economic losses were estimated at regional purchase prices for livestock products as of 2019. The calculations used indicators such as morbidity, mortality, and specific losses of the main product (meat, wool) per sick animal. The economic efficiency of veterinary measures for parasitic diseases of sheep was determined by the indicator of the prevented economic damage.Results and discussion. Analysis of the results of the treatment of sheep by the veterinary service of the region over a five-year period for the prevention of parasitic diseases showed that they annually carry out a large amount of antiparasitic treatments, but it should be noted that their number for all infestations decreased in 2019 compared to 2015 from 10180.0 thousand to 5231.0 thousand. Actual economic damage from parasitic diseases amounted to 10343.5 thousand rubles, and the amount of economic damage prevented as a result of planned deworming of sheep was 3.6 times higher than the amount of actual economic damage and amounted to 37895.7 thousand rubles.

In studies of many medical and biological problems, there is a clear underestimation of the fundamental role of mitochondria in the evolution of eukaryotic organisms on the planet, including fungi, plants and fauna. It is important to take into consideration numerous fundamental functions of mitochondria when studying the human physiology and pathology, aging mechanisms. In this lecture, we briefly discuss the origin of mitochondria and their importance in the emergence of plants, which appeared on the planet 1–1.5 billion years later than eukaryotes with mitochondria, and served as the food basis for the rapid evolution of all species of the animal world. In the course of transformation of protobacteria into mitochondria, approximately 1000–1500 genes were transferred to the nucleus of eukaryotes, and the remaining 37 mitochondrial genes (mtDNA) exist in all types of animals. The presence of mitochondria in eukaryotes led to increased production of reactive oxygen species and accelerated mutations in mtDNA. The spread of sexual reproduction may have been the way of protection against the accumulation of harmful mutations in mtDNA. At the same time, in all animal species mtDNA is inherited only maternally. In humans, the maternal inheritance of mtDNA led to uneven distribution, in small or inbred populations in particular, of a number of diseases with large prevalence in men, as well as male infertility, and in general accelerated aging and shorter lifespan in men, as compared with women. These negative consequences of the maternal inheritance of mtDNA were termed as “mother’s curse”. Recent studies have shown that mtDNA mutations are not the cause of human aging. The crisis of the mitochondrial free radical theory of aging is largely associated with the neglect of the protonated form of the superoxide radical, the perhydroxyl radical, which activates the peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in mitochondrial phospholipids. This results in production of various biologically active molecules and toxins. Therefore, initially aging may lack the manifestation of specific symptoms because of gradual accumulation of a wide variety of disorders and damages to the structure and functions of mitochondria and cells that finally lead to the development of diseases. The pathologies appear primarily in those organs that have a wide range of functional activity and a high dependence on oxygen consumption, namely the heart, brain, skeletal muscles and vascular epithelium.

Abstract The NA61/SHINE collaboration studies at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) the onset of deconfinement in hadronic matter by the measurement of particle production in collisions of nuclei with various sizes at a set of energies covering the SPS energy range. This paper presents results on inclusive double-differential spectra and mean multiplicities of $$\pi ^{-}$$ π - mesons produced in the 5% most central $$^7$$ 7 Be + $$^9$$ 9 Be collisions at beam momenta of 19A, 30A, 40A, 75A and 150 $$A\,\text{ GeV }\!/\!c$$ A GeV / c obtained by the so-called $$h^-$$ h - method which does not require any particle identification. The shape of the transverse mass spectra differs from the shapes measured in central Pb + Pb collisions and inelastic p+p interactions. The normalized width of the rapidity distribution decreases with increasing collision energy and is in between the results for inelastic nucleon–nucleon and central Pb + Pb collisions. The mean multiplicity of pions per wounded nucleon in central $$^7$$ 7 Be + $$^9$$ 9 Be collisions is close to that in central Pb + Pb collisions up to 75 $$A\,\text{ GeV }\!/\!c$$ A GeV / c . However, at the top SPS energy the result lies between those for nucleon–nucleon and Pb + Pb interactions. The results are discussed in the context of predictions for the onset of deconfinement at the CERN SPS collision energies.

Abstract The production of $$\Xi (1321)^{-}$$ Ξ ( 1321 ) - and $$\overline{\Xi }(1321)^{+}$$ Ξ ¯ ( 1321 ) + hyperons in inelastic p+p interactions is studied in a fixed target experiment at a beam momentum of 158 $$\hbox {Ge}\hbox {V}\!/\!c$$ Ge / c . Double differential distributions in rapidity $${y}$$ y and transverse momentum $$p_{T}$$ p T are obtained from a sample of 33M inelastic events. They allow to extrapolate the spectra to full phase space and to determine the mean multiplicity of both $${\Xi }{^-} $$ Ξ - and $$\overline{\Xi }{^+} $$ Ξ ¯ + . The rapidity and transverse momentum spectra are compared to transport model predictions. The $${\Xi }{^-} $$ Ξ - mean multiplicity in inelastic p+p interactions at 158 $$\hbox {Ge}\hbox {V}\!/\!c$$ Ge / c is used to quantify the strangeness enhancement in A+A collisions at the same centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair.

Background: The aim of this research was to study the regularities of changes in blood biochemical parameters in outbred rats exposed to the toxic effect of sodium valproate (SV) in the experiment. Methods and Results: The study was performed on 94 white outbred male rats, weighing 190-210g. According to the research protocol, all animals were divided into two groups: Intact Group (IG, n=30) and Experimental Group (EG, n=64). Animals of EG were given the anticonvulsant SV in a toxic dose of 600 mg/kg, intragastrically, once a day, for 7 (n=23), 14 (n=13), 21 (n=13) and 28 (n=15) days. The animals were withdrawn from the experiment after 7, 14, 21 and 28 days using diethyl ether. The following biochemical parameters in blood serum were determined: AST (aspartate aminotransferase), ALT (alanine aminotransferase), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), GGT (γ-glutamyltransferase), TP (total protein), glucose, direct bilirubin, TC (total cholesterol), and TG(triglycerides). The administration of toxic doses of SV to experimental animals was accompanied by changes in the biochemical status of blood, especially pronounced on Days 21 and 28 of the experiment. In particular, the activity of enzymes AST, ALT, ALP, GGT increases, the levels of TP and glucose decrease, and the levels of direct bilirubin, TG and TC, increase. Conclusion: The obtained data showed that the overdose of SV significantly worsens the blood biochemical parameters, which may indicate a toxic damage of hepatocytes. The studied biochemical parameters should be used to assess late effects of anticonvulsants on the body.

The aim of this research was to study the levels of the main populations of blood lymphocytes in various stages of acute irreversible arterial mesenteric ischemia in an experiment. Methods and Results: Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) was simulated by ligating the cranial mesenteric artery at the mesenteric root. The study was performed on white non-linear male rats, weighing 200±25 g. According to the research protocol, the animals were divided into 3 groups depending on the time of compression of the general blood flow (3 hours (n=10), 6 hours (n=10), and 8 hours (n=10)). As a comparison, we used data from 30 animals (before artery ligation). The main populations and subpopulation structure of lymphocytes (total number of lymphocytes, CD3+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, B cells, NK cells, and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio) were evaluated. We found that the content of lymphocytes in the venous blood of rats has been directly dependent on the time of ischemia. After 3 hours of AMI development, a statistically significant decrease in the total number of lymphocytes and an increase in the content of CD3+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio occur. After 6 hours of AMI development, a statistically significant decrease in the total number of lymphocytes was persisted. The number of CD8+ T cells decreased, while the level of CD4+T cells increased with increasing the CD4+/CD8+ ratio. In this period, a significant drop in the number of B cells was noted. After 8 hours of AMI development, more pronounced changes were observed concerning various populations of lymphocytes: a statistically significant decrease in the total number of lymphocytes, CD3+ T cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, B cells, and NK cells. It should be noted that during this period, the CD4+/CD8+ ratio increased by more than 3 times relative to the initial indicator. Conclusion. The significant decrease in the number of venous blood lymphocytes can be used to predict the severity of the disease in a comprehensive examination of patients with AMI.

Cardiovascular diseases are among the major causes of mortality among aged people in most developed countries. Oxidative stress, which causes mutations of mitochondrial DNA and mitochondrial dysfunctions, was considered as the main mechanism of heart failure and other pathologies of old age. However, in recent years the prior paradigm of mechanisms of aging, oxidative stress and antioxidative defense was questioned and in some aspects even turned out to be wrong. In this review, we discuss the new data that led to the need to reconsider paradigms. We show that although the mitochondrial free radical theory of aging remains valid, the radical responsible for the aging is the protonated form of the superoxide radical, namely perhydroxyl radical, which was largely ignored all previous years. Perhydroxyl radical initiates the isoprostane pathway of lipid peroxidation (IPLP) of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are part of the phospholipid core of the mitochondrial inner membrane. IPLP was discovered 30 years ago by Roberts and Morrow at the Vanderbilt University, but the mechanism of its initiation remained unknown. The IPLP causes formation of the racemic mixture of hundreds of biologically active products, named isoprostanes, and highly toxic molecules, first of all isolevuglandins. We distinguish two types of damages caused by IPLP during aging. The first one is associated with oxidative damages to cardiolipin and phosphatidylethanolamine (PEA), which result in disruption of polyenzymatic complexes of the oxidative phosphorylation system. The second type of dysfunctions is caused by the direct actions of toxic products on the lysine-containing proteins and PEA. To this type of mitochondrial damages evidently belongs the oxidative damage of the mitochondrial DNA polymerase, which results in a 20-fold increase in mutations of mitochondrial mtDNA.

The rich magnetic phase behaviour of MnSi reflects the complexity of the physics underlying itinerant ferromagnetism. Here the authors present evidence that MnSi is strongly influenced by Hund’s coupling effects, suggesting a broader class of materials may fall into the class of Hund metals.

Background: Earlier, we described our own study results of the chronobiological circadian rhythm of salivary fluid melatonin secretion in menopausal women, which allowed us pathogenetically to substantiate the use of melatonin drugs for insomnia in the perimenopausal period. The aim of this research was to evaluate the sleep quality using polysomnographic monitoring in perimenopausal women with sleep disorders (SDs) before and after 3 months of melatonin therapy. Methods and Results: The study involved 21 perimenopausal women with complaints of SDs. All women completed a questionnaire to assess the subjective severity of insomnia (Insomnia Severity Index, ISI) and underwent a clinical-anamnestic and gynecological examination. Polysomnography (PSG) was performed before and after 3 months melatonin therapy in a daily dose of 3 mg. After melatonin intake, PSG demonstrated improvement in sleep latency, overall sleep efficiency, and an increase of REM sleep. A statistically significant number of EEG activation reactions indicate a decrease in sleep fragmentation and an improvement in sleep segmental structure. Conclusions: The use of melatonin in a dose of 3mg/day for 3 months is one of the main methods for treatment of SDs in age-related estrogen-deficient situations. The main clinical effect, which significantly improves the quality of life, is associated with the elimination of pre- and intrasomnic disorders.

The aim of this research was to investigate the content of lipid peroxidation (LPO) products and components of antioxidant defense (AOD), as well as to evaluate morphometric parameters of the dentition system tissues in Wistar rats when modeling acute and chronic modes of immobilization stress. Methods and Results: The work was performed on young (2.5-3 months), sexually mature male rats of the Wistar line, weighing 200-220g. The design of the study consisted in evaluating biochemical and morphometric parameters at the stage before immobilization—intact animals (10 rats)— as well as in modeling various stress modes: acute stress (3 hours from the moment of 3-hour single immobilization) and chronic stress (1-hour immobilization with an interval of 72 hours between separate stress episodes on Days 1, 5, 9 and 13). Both modes included 20 rats. The intensity of lipid peroxidation-antioxidant defense processes was assessed using spectrophotometric and fluorometric methods. The microscopic and morphometric studies were performed in the light-optical microscope AxioScope A1 and included a detailed description of all changes in the tooth and periodontal tissues. We found that acute stress is accompanied by increased LPO reactions at the stage of primary and secondary products with simultaneous activation of antioxidant factors. In chronic stress exposure, there is an accumulation of thiobarbituric acid reactants, with a decrease in the level of non-enzymatic components—α-tocopherol, retinol, and oxidized glutathione. The changes in the state of the dentition system in Wistar rats was accompanied by an increase in the area of the microcirculatory bed of the periodontium and pulp and a natural reduction in the connective tissue area, with an increase in the thickness of vascular endothelium and an increased number of cellular elements that control metabolic processes, especially pronounced in acute stress. The change in the mode of stress exposure to chronic in animals of this line was characterized by generally similar changes with reduced reaction intensity. Conclusion: The processes of LPO-AOD and the indicators of the dentition system in Wistar rats undergo changes depending on the mode of stress exposure.
