Abstract Euglenids represent a group of protists with diverse modes of feeding. To date, only a partial genomic sequence of Euglena gracilis and transcriptomes of several phototrophic and secondarily osmotrophic species are available, while primarily heterotrophic euglenids are seriously undersampled. In this work, we begin to fill this gap by presenting genomic and transcriptomic drafts of a primary osmotroph, Rhabdomonas costata. The current genomic assembly length of 100 Mbp is 14× smaller than that of E. gracilis. Despite being too fragmented for comprehensive gene prediction it provided fragments of the mitochondrial genome and comparison of the transcriptomic and genomic data revealed features of its introns, including several candidates for nonconventional types. A set of 39,456 putative R. costata proteins was predicted from the transcriptome. Annotation of the mitochondrial core metabolism provides the first data on the facultatively anaerobic mitochondrion of R. costata, which in most respects resembles the mitochondrion of E. gracilis with a certain level of streamlining. R. costata can synthetise thiamine by enzymes of heterogenous provenances and haem by a mitochondrial-cytoplasmic C4 pathway with enzymes orthologous to those found in E. gracilis. The low percentage of green algae-affiliated genes supports the ancestrally osmotrophic status of this species.

New practices and changes are appearing in personnel management in the same way as they occur in other areas of management. New trends, which have various ways of implementation, emerge, along with its impact on employees, managers and businesses. Employees are an important part of each business and therefore, it is important to have right people in right places. The objective of the paper is to find out how food businesses working in Slovakia are implementing an innovative approach to the personnel management. The research actively included 453 food businesses from all Slovakia. We decided to do research into these businesses because they are household names in the field of production of domestic food products. Production of high-quality domestic food products is considered important not only for people´s nutrition and availability of quality domestic products but also due to sustainability of the employment rate in this field, development and recruitment of professional, qualified and engaged employees. The statistical relations and correlations between variables were performed by Cronbach alpha, Spearman test, Kruskal-Walis test using programs EXCEL and SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1. We found out that food businesses in Slovakia had already started to implement innovative approaches to the personnel management, but there are still significant reserves and shortcomings. The positive aspect is that food business managers have understood importance of personnel management innovation because nowadays, their main task to find, recruit, select and retain a prospective employee.

The given issue applied in the practise of food businesses in Slovakia is very actual. The objective reason is especially the fact that the food businesses are producers of domestic foodstuffs, production of which is considered very important not only from nutritional point of view for the population and availability of quality domestic products but from sustainability of employment in this branch, development and application of quality, qualified and committed employees, point of view as well. The objective of the paper is to find out how food businesses working in Slovakia implement and use new trends, in selected areas of human resource management, in reality. The research actively included 453 food businesses from all the Slovakia. The statistical relations and correlations between variables were performed by Cronbach alpha, Spearman test, Kruskal-Walis test using programs EXCEL and SAS Enterprise Guide 7.1. We found out that food businesses in Slovakia show significant reserves and shortcomings in a practical application of new trends within human resource management despite of the fact that their representatives realize the importance of human resources. In the conclusion, we provide suggestions and recommendations to improve the company practise.

Jedním z primárních cílů zoo je vzdělání a výchova v ekologii a ochranářství. Tento příspěvek k proměně lidského přístupu k přírodě a zastavení vymírání druhů, který má nějakým způsobem legitimizovat držení divokých zvířat v zajetí, je kritiky zpochybňován. Jak tomu je se vzdělávacím přínosem ve skutečnosti, mohou ukázat výzkumy. Text se věnuje výsledkům výzkumů o vzdělávacím přínosu zoo a jejich analýzám. Předpokládá se, že návštěva zoo by měla přispět k pro-environmentálnímu cítění, ochranářskému étosu, postoji a chování, ke gramotnosti v biodiverzitě a dalším. Závěry výzkumů jsou ale prozatím přinejmenším nejednoznačné. Cílem příspěvku je v kontextu těchto nejnovějších výzkumů poukázat na další relevantní faktory, které mohou ovlivňovat postoje lidí, a na případný potenciální edukační přínos zoologických zahrad v jiných oblastech.

Molybdenum disulfide is a promising candidate for various applications in electronics, optoelectronics, or alkali-ion batteries. The natural presence of the van der Waals gap allows intercalating alkali ions, such as lithium, into MoS2 films. Intercalation can modify the electronic structure as well as the electrical and optical properties. Here, we present a structural, optical, and electrical characterization of Li-intercalated few-layer MoS2 films. The intercalation was carried out by annealing MoS2 film in the presence of Li2S powder, serving as a lithium source. The initial MoS2 layers were prepared by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) and by sulfurization of 1 nm thick Mo film (TAC). The presence of lithium was confirmed by synchrotron-based x-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The Raman spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, and optical absorption measurements confirmed semiconducting behavior for all samples. All samples exhibited the thermally activated dependence of the electrical resistance, R, typical for the Efros–Shklovskii variable range hopping in a disordered semiconductor, ln R(T) ∝ (TES/T)1/2, where kBTES is the hopping activation energy. The PLD-grown MoS2 samples exhibited a relatively mild initial disorder primarily caused by grain boundaries. Lithium intercalation led to an increase in disorder, evident in the increase in kBTES and a substantial rise in electrical resistance. The TAC-grown undoped MoS2 sample already exhibited significant resistance, and the impact of Li intercalation on resistance was minimal. This observation was attributed to the fact that the TAC-grown MoS2 samples exhibit a perturbed stoichiometry (the S:Mo ratio ∼ 2.20), causing strong disorder even before Li intercalation. Molybdenum ditelluride (MoTe2), a member of the transition metal dichalcogenide family, holds significant promise in optoelectronic applications. To harness its full potential, it is imperative to understand its fundamental optical properties, including refractive indices. Herein, measurements of the transmittance and reflectance spectra of thin MoTe2 layers are conducted featuring hexagonal and monoclinic structures across the far‐infrared (IR) and mid‐IR spectral regions. These spectra are fitted, allowing to extract the complex refractive index and optical conductance. In the semiconducting hexagonal phase, both the conductance and extinction coefficient remain negligible below 3000 cm−1 and increase at higher energies. Conversely, the monoclinic phase exhibits a conductance peak in the far‐IR region and a continuous increase from 1000 to 6000 cm−1. The findings are compared with existing theoretical and experimental results to provide further insights into MoTe2's optical behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The transition metal dichalcogenides have been studied for various applications in electronics, sensing, or spintronics. Molybdenum ditelluride, MoTe2, occurs in 3 crystal systems: hexagonal (2H), monoclinic (1T′), and orthorhombic (Td). Here we report on tellurisation of Mo and MoO3 thin films to 2H-MoTe2 and 1T′-MoTe2 thin layers on sapphire substrates, respectively. To study the phases, we employed diffraction patterns using grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering, conventional X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Measurements of pole figures confirmed the presence of a biaxial texture of both 1T′ and 2H phases. In the hexagonal phase, we found two ensembles of biaxially oriented crystallites offset by 30 degrees between the two groups. On the other hand, in the monoclinic layer, the crystallites follow the six-fold symmetry of the (0001) sapphire surface. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The perspective of symbolic interactionism shifted the concept of identity to the dynamic field of interaction where the “I” element has to find a balance between the internal and external environment of the organism. Thus the identity finds itself in perpetual motion, as the subject of continuous change and reconstruction of the social world. The study shows the possibility of a new perspective on the relationship between communication and integration. It uses the latest findings in the field of neurobiology and interpretation of biological and socially constructed emotions (especially A. Damasio) and integrates them into a new paradigm. It attempts to clarify the influence of emotionality and socially constructed emotion on behavioural outcomes and also points out the importance of pragmatic competence in the process of intersubjective experience creation. It also describes the possibility of somatic marker hypothesis use in the dynamic paradigm research design.
