In ferromagnetic materials, magnons - quanta of spin waves - typically resonate in the gigahertz range. Beyond conventional magnons, while theoretical studies have predicted magnons associated with orbital magnetic moments, their direct observation has remained challenging. Here, we present the discovery of two distinct terahertz orbitally-coupled magnon resonances in the topological kagome ferromagnet Co3Sn2S2. Using time-resolved Kerr rotation spectroscopy, we pinpoint two magnon resonances at 0.61 and 0.49 THz at 6 K, surpassing all previously reported magnon resonances in ferromagnets due to strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy. These dual modes originate from the strong coupling of localized spin and orbital magnetic moments. These findings unveil a novel category of magnons stemming from orbital magnetic moments, and position Co3Sn2S2 as a promising candidate for high-speed terahertz spintronic applications

Understanding how people behave in strategic settings--where they make decisions based on their expectations about the behavior of others--is a long-standing problem in the behavioral sciences. We conduct the largest study to date of strategic decision-making in the context of initial play in two-player matrix games, analyzing over 90,000 human decisions across more than 2,400 procedurally generated games that span a much wider space than previous datasets. We show that a deep neural network trained on these data predicts people's choices better than leading theories of strategic behavior, indicating that there is systematic variation that is not explained by those theories. We then modify the network to produce a new, interpretable behavioral model, revealing what the original network learned about people: their ability to optimally respond and their capacity to reason about others are dependent on the complexity of individual games. This context-dependence is critical in explaining deviations from the rational Nash equilibrium, response times, and uncertainty in strategic decisions. More broadly, our results demonstrate how machine learning can be applied beyond prediction to further help generate novel explanations of complex human behavior.

We explore the feasibility of using machine-learning regression as a method of extracting basic stellar parameters and line-of-sight extinctions, given spectro-photometric data. To this end, we build a stable gradient-boosted random-forest regressor (xgboost), trained on spectroscopic data, capable of producing output parameters with reliable uncertainties from Gaia DR3 data (most notably the low-resolution XP spectra) without ground-based spectroscopic observations. Using Shapley additive explanations, we are able to interpret how the predictions for each star are influenced by each data feature. For the training and testing of the network, we use high-quality parameters obtained from the StarHorse code for a sample of around eight million stars observed by major spectroscopic surveys (APOGEE, GALAH, LAMOST, RAVE, SEGUE, and GES), complemented by curated samples of hot stars, very metal-poor stars, white dwarfs, and hot sub-dwarfs. The training data cover the whole sky, all Galactic components, and almost the full magnitude range of the Gaia DR3 XP sample of more than 217 million objects that also have parallaxes. We achieve median uncertainties (at $G\approx16$) of 0.20 mag in V-band extinction, 0.01 dex in logarithmic effective temperature, 0.20 dex in surface gravity, 0.18 dex in metallicity, and $12\%$ in mass (over the full Gaia DR3 XP sample, with considerable variations in precision as a function of magnitude and stellar type). We succeed in predicting competitive results based on Gaia DR3 XP spectra compared to classical isochrone fitting methods we employed in earlier work, especially for the parameters $A_V$, $T_{\rm eff}$, and metallicity. Finally, we showcase some applications of this new catalogue (e.g. extinction maps, metallicity trends in the Milky Way, extended maps of young massive stars, metal-poor stars, and metal-rich stars). The Archives of Photographic PLates for Astronomical USE (APPLAUSE) project is aimed at digitising astronomical photographic plates from three major German plate collections, making them accessible through integration into the International Virtual Observatory (IVO). Photographic plates and related materials (logbooks, envelopes, etc.) were scanned with commercial flatbed scanners. Astrometric and photometric calibrations were carried out with the developed PyPlate software, using Gaia EDR3 data as a reference. The APPLAUSE data publication complies with IVO standards. The latest data release contains images and metadata from 27 plate collections from the partner institutes in Hamburg, Bamberg, and Potsdam, along with digitised archives provided by Tautenburg, Tartu, and Vatican observatories. Altogether, over two billion calibrated measurements extracted from about 70,000 direct photographic plates can readily be used to create long-term light curves. For instance, we constructed the historic light curve of the enigmatic dipping star KIC 8462852. We found no evidence of previously assumed variations on timescales of decades in our light curve. Potential uses of APPLAUSE images for transient sources can be appreciated by following the development of the nova shell of GK Per (1901) over time and the change in brightness of two extragalactic supernovae. Gravitational waves from black-hole merging events have revealed a population of extra-galactic BHs residing in short-period binaries with masses that are higher than expected based on most stellar evolution models - and also higher than known stellar-origin black holes in our Galaxy. It has been proposed that those high-mass BHs are the remnants of massive metal-poor stars. Gaia astrometry is expected to uncover many Galactic wide-binary systems containing dormant BHs, which may not have been detected before. The study of this population will provide new information on the BH-mass distribution in binaries and shed light on their formation mechanisms and progenitors. As part of the validation efforts in preparation for the fourth Gaia data release (DR4), we analysed the preliminary astrometric binary solutions, obtained by the Gaia Non-Single Star pipeline, to verify their significance and to minimise false-detection rates in high-mass-function orbital solutions. The astrometric binary solution of one source, Gaia BH3, implies the presence of a 32.70 \pm 0.82 M\odot BH in a binary system with a period of 11.6 yr. Gaia radial velocities independently validate the astrometric orbit. Broad-band photometric and spectroscopic data show that the visible component is an old, very metal-poor giant of the Galactic halo, at a distance of 590 pc. The BH in the Gaia BH3 system is more massive than any other Galactic stellar-origin BH known thus far. The low metallicity of the star companion supports the scenario that metal-poor massive stars are progenitors of the high-mass BHs detected by gravitational-wave telescopes. The Galactic orbit of the system and its metallicity indicate that it might belong to the Sequoia halo substructure. Integration of solvothermal reaction products into complex thin-layer architectures is frequently achieved by combinations of layer transfer and subtractive lithography, whereas direct additive substrate patterning with solvothermal reaction products has remained challenging. We report reactive additive capillary stamping under solvothermal conditions as a parallel contact-lithographic access to patterns of solvothermal reaction products in thin-layer configurations. To this end, corresponding precursor inks are infiltrated into mechanically robust mesoporous aerogel stamps derived from double-network hydrogels (DNHGs). The stamp is then brought into contact with a substrate to be patterned under solvothermal reaction conditions inside an autoclave. The precursor ink forms liquid bridges between the topographic surface pattern of the stamp and the substrate. Evaporation-driven enrichment of the precursors in these liquid bridges along with their liquid-bridge-guided conversion into the solvothermal reaction products yields large-area submicron patterns of the solvothermal reaction products replicating the stamp topography. As example, we prepared thin hybrid films, which contained ordered monolayers of superparamagnetic submicron nickel ferrite dots prepared by solvothermal capillary stamping surrounded by nickel electrodeposited in a second, orthogonal substrate functionalization step. The submicron nickel ferrite dots acted as magnetic hardener halving the remanence of the ferromagnetic nickel layer. In this way, thin-layer electromechanical systems, transformers and positioning systems may be customized.

We comparatively analyzed imbibition of polystyrene (PS) into two complementary pore models having pore diameters of about 380 nm and hydroxyl-terminated inorganic-oxidic pore walls, controlled porous glass (CPG) and self-ordered porous alumina (AAO), by X-ray computed tomography and EDX spectroscopy. CPG contains continuous spongy-tortuous pore systems. AAO containing arrays of isolated straight cylindrical pores is a reference pore model with a tortuosity close to 1. Comparative evaluation of the spatiotemporal imbibition front evolution yields important information on the pore morphology of a probed tortuous matrix like CPG and on the imbibition mechanism. To this end, pixel brightness dispersions in tomographic 3D reconstructions and 2D EDX maps of infiltrated AAO and CPG samples were condensed into 1D brightness dispersion profiles normal to the membrane surfaces. Their statistical analysis yielded positions and widths of the imbibition fronts without segmentation or determination of pore positions. The retardation of the imbibition front movement with respect to AAO reference samples may be used as a descriptor for the tortuosity of a tested porous matrix. The velocity of the imbibition front movements in CPG equaled two-thirds of the velocity of the imbibition front movements in AAO. Moreover, the dynamics of the imbibition front broadening discloses whether porous matrices are dominated by cylindrical neck-like pore segments or by nodes. Independent single-meniscus movements in cylindrical AAO pores result in faster imbibition front broadening than in CPG, in which a morphology dominated by nodes results in slower cooperative imbibition front movements involving several menisci.

Gaia's readout window strategy is challenged by very dense fields in the sky. Therefore, in addition to standard Gaia observations, full Sky Mapper (SM) images were recorded for nine selected regions in the sky. A new software pipeline exploits these Service Interface Function (SIF) images of crowded fields (CFs), making use of the availability of the full two-dimensional (2D) information. This new pipeline produced half a million additional Gaia sources in the region of the omega Centauri ($\omega$ Cen) cluster, which are published with this Focused Product Release. We discuss the dedicated SIF CF data reduction pipeline, validate its data products, and introduce their Gaia archive table. Our aim is to improve the completeness of the {\it Gaia} source inventory in a very dense region in the sky, $\omega$ Cen. An adapted version of {\it Gaia}'s Source Detection and Image Parameter Determination software located sources in the 2D SIF CF images. We validated the results by comparing them to the public {\it Gaia} DR3 catalogue and external Hubble Space Telescope data. With this Focused Product Release, 526\,587 new sources have been added to the {\it Gaia} catalogue in $\omega$ Cen. Apart from positions and brightnesses, the additional catalogue contains parallaxes and proper motions, but no meaningful colour information. While SIF CF source parameters generally have a lower precision than nominal {\it Gaia} sources, in the cluster centre they increase the depth of the combined catalogue by three magnitudes and improve the source density by a factor of ten. This first SIF CF data publication already adds great value to the {\it Gaia} catalogue. It demonstrates what to expect for the fourth {\it Gaia} catalogue, which will contain additional sources for all nine SIF CF regions.

Context. Strongly lensed quasars are fundamental sources for cosmology. The Gaia space mission covers the entire sky with the unprecedented resolution of $0.18$" in the optical, making it an ideal instrument to search for gravitational lenses down to the limiting magnitude of 21. Nevertheless, the previous Gaia Data Releases are known to be incomplete for small angular separations such as those expected for most lenses. Aims. We present the Data Processing and Analysis Consortium GravLens pipeline, which was built to analyse all Gaia detections around quasars and to cluster them into sources, thus producing a catalogue of secondary sources around each quasar. We analysed the resulting catalogue to produce scores that indicate source configurations that are compatible with strongly lensed quasars. Methods. GravLens uses the DBSCAN unsupervised clustering algorithm to detect sources around quasars. The resulting catalogue of multiplets is then analysed with several methods to identify potential gravitational lenses. We developed and applied an outlier scoring method, a comparison between the average BP and RP spectra of the components, and we also used an extremely randomised tree algorithm. These methods produce scores to identify the most probable configurations and to establish a list of lens candidates. Results. We analysed the environment of 3 760 032 quasars. A total of 4 760 920 sources, including the quasars, were found within 6" of the quasar positions. This list is given in the Gaia archive. In 87\% of cases, the quasar remains a single source, and in 501 385 cases neighbouring sources were detected. We propose a list of 381 lensed candidates, of which we identified 49 as the most promising. Beyond these candidates, the associate tables in this Focused Product Release allow the entire community to explore the unique Gaia data for strong lensing studies further., Comment: 35 pages, 60 figures, accepted for publication by Astronomy and Astrophysics

The third Gaia Data Release (DR3) provided photometric time series of more than 2 million long-period variable (LPV) candidates. Anticipating the publication of full radial-velocity (RV) in DR4, this Focused Product Release (FPR) provides RV time series for a selection of LPVs with high-quality observations. We describe the production and content of the Gaia catalog of LPV RV time series, and the methods used to compute variability parameters published in the Gaia FPR. Starting from the DR3 LPVs catalog, we applied filters to construct a sample of sources with high-quality RV measurements. We modeled their RV and photometric time series to derive their periods and amplitudes, and further refined the sample by requiring compatibility between the RV period and at least one of the $G$, $G_{\rm BP}$, or $G_{\rm RP}$ photometric periods. The catalog includes RV time series and variability parameters for 9\,614 sources in the magnitude range $6\lesssim G/{\rm mag}\lesssim 14$, including a flagged top-quality subsample of 6\,093 stars whose RV periods are fully compatible with the values derived from the $G$, $G_{\rm BP}$, and $G_{\rm RP}$ photometric time series. The RV time series contain a mean of 24 measurements per source taken unevenly over a duration of about three years. We identify the great most sources (88%) as genuine LPVs, with about half of them showing a pulsation period and the other half displaying a long secondary period. The remaining 12% consists of candidate ellipsoidal binaries. Quality checks against RVs available in the literature show excellent agreement. We provide illustrative examples and cautionary remarks. The publication of RV time series for almost 10\,000 LPVs constitutes, by far, the largest such database available to date in the literature. This paper presents a theoretical study on the production of the heavy-flavour decay lepton (HFL) in high-energy nuclear collisions at the LHC. The pp-baseline is calculated by the FONLL program, which matches the next-to-leading order pQCD calculation with the next-to-leading-log large-$p_T$ resummation. The in-medium propagation of heavy quarks is driven by the modified Langevin equations, which consider both the elastic and inelastic partonic interactions. We propose a method to separate the respective influence of the five factors, such as pp-spectra, the cold nuclear matter (CNM) effects, in-medium energy loss (E-loss), fragmentation functions (FFs), and decay channels, which may contribute to the larger $R_{AA}$ of HFL $\leftarrow b$ compared to that of HFL $\leftarrow c$ in nucleus-nucleus collisions. Based on quantitative analysis, we demonstrate that different decay channels of charm- and bottom-hadrons play an important role at $p_T<$5 GeV, while the mass-dependent E-loss dominates the higher $p_T$ region. It is also found that the influences of the CNM effects and FFs are insignificant, while different initial pp-spectra of charm and bottom quarks have a considerable impact at $p_T>$ 3 GeV. Furthermore, we explore the path-length dependence of jet quenching by comparing the HFL $R_{AA}$ in two different collision systems. Our investigations show smaller HFL $R_{AA}$ in Pb+Pb than that in Xe+Xe within the same centrality bin, which is consistent with the ALICE data. The longer propagation time and more effective energy loss of heavy quarks in Pb+Pb collisions play critical roles in the stronger yield suppression of the HFL compared to that in Xe+Xe. In addition, we observe a scaling behaviour of the HFL $R_{AA}$ in Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb collisions., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures

The properties of porous glasses and their field of application strongly depend on the characteristics of the void space. Understanding the relationship between their porous structure and failure behaviour can contribute to the development of porous glasses with long-term reliability optimized for specific applications. In the present work, we used X-ray computed tomography with nanometric resolution (nano-CT) to image a controlled pore glass (CPG) with 400 nm-sized pores whilst undergoing uniaxial compression in-situ to emulate a stress process. Our results show that in-situ nano-CT provides an ideal platform for identifying the mechanisms of damage within glass with pores of 400 nm, as it allowed the tracking of the pores and struts change of shape during compression until specimen failure. We have also applied computational tools to quantify the microstructural changes within the CPG sample by mapping the displacements and strain fields, and to numerically simulate the behaviour of the CPG using a Fast Fourier Transform/phase-field method. Both experimental and numerical data show local shear deformation, organized along bands, consistent with the appearance and propagation of +/- 45 degrees cracks., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures

Kagome-lattice materials possess attractive properties for quantum computing applications, but their synthesis remains challenging. Herein, we show surface kagome electronic states (SKESs) on a Sn-terminated triangular Co3Sn2S2 surface, which are imprinted by vertical p-d electronic hybridization between the surface Sn (subsurface S) atoms and the buried Co kagome lattice network in the Co3Sn layer under the surface. Owing to the subsequent lateral hybridization of the Sn and S atoms in a corner-sharing manner, the kagome symmetry and topological electronic properties of the Co3Sn layer is proximate to the Sn surface. The SKESs and both hybridizations were verified via qPlus non-contact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM) and density functional theory calculations. The construction of SKESs with tunable properties can be achieved by the atomic substitution of surface Sn (subsurface S) with other group III-V elements (Se or Te), which was demonstrated theoretically. This work exhibits the powerful capacity of nc-AFM in characterizing localized topological states and reveals the strategy for synthesis of large-area transition-metal-based kagome lattice materials using conventional surface deposition techniques.

Atomically-precise engineering of defects in topological quantum materials, which is essential for constructing new artificial quantum materials with exotic properties and appealing for practical quantum applications, remains challenging due to the hindrances in modifying complex lattice with atomic precision. Here, we report the atomically-precise engineering of the vacancy-localized spin-orbital polarons (SOP) in a kagome magnetic Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2, using scanning tunneling microscope. We achieve the step-by-step repairing of the selected vacancies, which results in the formation of artificial sulfur vacancy with elaborate geometry. We find that that the bound states localized around the vacancies experience a symmetry-dependent energy shift towards Fermi level with increasing vacancy size. Strikingly, as vacancy size increases, the localized magnetic moments of SOPs are tunable and ultimately extended to the negative magnetic moments resulting from spin-orbit coupling in the kagome flat band. These findings establish a new platform for engineering atomic quantum states in topological quantum materials, offering potential for kagome-lattice-based spintronics and quantum technologies.

We investigate the flavor dependence of jet quenching, by performing a systematic analysis of medium modifications on the inclusive jet, $\gamma$+jet, and $b$-jet in Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC. Our results from MadGraph+PYTHIA exhibit excellent agreement with experimental measurements of the inclusive jet, $\gamma$+jet and $b$-jet simultaneously in p+p collisions. We then utilize a Bayesian data-driven method to extract systematically the flavor-dependent jet energy loss distributions from experimental data, where the gluon, light quark and $b$-quark initiated energy loss distributions are well constrained and satisfy the predicted flavor hierarchy of jet quenching, i.e. $\langle \Delta E_g \rangle > \langle\Delta E_q\rangle > \langle\Delta E_b\rangle$. It is shown that the quark-initiated jet energy loss distribution shows weaker centrality and $p_\text{T}$ dependence than the gluon-initiated one. We demonstrate the impacts of the slope of initial spectra, color-charge as well as parton mass dependent jet energy attenuation on the $\gamma/b$-jet suppression observed in heavy-ion collisions., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures

Reconstructed jets initiated from heavy quarks provide a powerful tool to probe the properties of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and to explore the mass hierarchy of jet quenching. In this article, we review the recent theoretical progresses on heavy-flavour jets in high-energy nuclear collisions at the RHIC and LHC. We focus on the yields and substructures of charm and bottom quark jets with jet quenching effect, such as the nuclear modification factors, transverse momentum imbalance, angular correlation, radial profiles, fragmentation functions, the "dead-cone" effect, etc., Comment: 27 pages, 9 figures. Groomed jet substructure measurements, the momentum splitting fraction $z_g$ and the groomed jet radius $R_g$, of inclusive, D$^0$-tagged and B$^0$-tagged jets in $pp$ and central PbPb collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV are predicted and investigated. Charged jets are constrained in a relatively low transverse momentum interval 15 $\leq p_{\rm T}^{\rm jet\ ch} <$ 30 GeV/$c$ where the QCD emissions are sensitive to mass effects. In $pp$ collisions, heavy flavor jets have less momentum-balanced splittings than inclusive jets and the larger quark mass is, the less momentum-balanced splittings are. B$^0$-tagged jets distribute at lager $R_g$ than both D$^0$-tagged and inclusive jets, while D$^0$-tagged jets distribute at smaller $R_g$ than inclusive jets. That can be explained by the competition between parton mass effects and flavour effects on splitting-angle distributions. In $A$+$A$ collisions, jet quenching effects further suppress the momentum-balanced splittings and enhance the large-angle splittings. Heavy flavor jets suffer more $z_g$ and less $R_g$ modifications due to jet-medium interactions. The mass hierarchy in $z_g$ of inclusive, D$^0$-tagged, B$^0$-tagged jets and competition between mass effects and Casimir colour factors in $R_g$ can also be observed in PbPb collisions.

We establish a statistical two-body fractal (STF) model to study the spectrum of $J/\psi$. $J/\psi$ serves as a reliable probe in heavy-ion collisions. The distribution of $J/\psi$ in hadron gas is influenced by flow, quantum and strong interaction effects. Previous models have predominantly focused on one or two of these effects while neglecting the others, resulting in the inclusion of unconsidered effects in the fitted parameters. Here, we study the issue from a new point of view by analyzing the fact that all three effects induce a self-similarity structure, involving a $J/\psi$-$\pi$ two-meson state and a $J/\psi$, $\pi$ two-quark state, respectively. We introduce modification factor $q_{TBS}$ and $q_2$ into the probability and entropy of charmonium. $q_{TBS}$ denotes the modification of self-similarity on $J/\psi$, $q_2$ denotes that of self-similarity and strong interaction between \emph{c }and $\bar{c}$ on quarks. By solving the probability and entropy equations, we derive the values of $q_{TBS}$ and $q_2$ at various collision energies and centralities. Substituting the value of $q_{TBS}$ into distribution function, we successfully obtain the transverse momentum spectrum of low-$p_T$ $J/\psi$, which demonstrates good agreement with experimental data. Two-dimensional (2D) Dirac bands and flat bands are characteristics of a kagome lattice. However, experimental studies on their electrical transport are few, because three-dimensional (3D) bulk bands of kagome materials, consisting of stacked 2D kagome layers, dominate the transport. We report a magnetoresistance (MR) study of a kagome material, Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$. Based on analysis of the temperature, magnetic field, and field angle dependence of the resistivity, we obtain a complete anatomy of MR. Besides a magnon MR, a chirality-dependent MR, and a chiral-anomaly-induced MR, the most intriguing feature is an orbital MR that scales only with the out-of-plane field, which strongly indicates its 2D nature. Studies of exotic hadrons such as the $\chi_{c1} (3872)$ state provide crucial insights into the fundamental force governing the strong interaction dynamics, with an emerging new frontier to investigate their production in high energy collisions where a partonic medium is present. Latest experimental measurements from the Large Hadron Collider show an intriguing evolution pattern of the $\chi_{c1} (3872)$-to-$\psi(2S)$ yield ratio from proton-proton collisions with increasing multiplicities toward proton-lead and lead-lead collisions. Here we propose a novel mechanism of medium-assisted enhancement for the $\chi_{c1} (3872)$ production, which competes with the more conventional absorption-induced suppression and results in a non-monotonic trend from small to large colliding systems. Realistic simulations from this model offer the first quantitative description of all available data. Predictions are made for the centrality dependence of this observable in PbPb collisions as well as for its system size dependence from OO and ArAr to XeXe and PbPb collisions. In both cases, a non-monotonic behavior emerges as the imprint of the competition between enhancement and suppression and can be readily tested by future data., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

We present a study of the nuclear-medium induced transverse momentum broadening of particle production in future electron-ion-collision~(EIC) experiments. By considering the multiple scattering between hard partons and cold nuclear medium within the higher-twist factorization framework in perturbative QCD, we calculate the transverse momentum broadening of single hadron production in semi-inclusive measurements, as well as the nuclear enhancement of the transverse momentum imbalance for di-hadron and heavy-meson pair productions. In particular, a kinematics dependent non-perturbative jet transport coefficient $\hat q=\hat q(x,Q^2)$ extracted in a global analysis of the current data, together with its uncertainty determined with a Hessian method, are input into our calculations and are available for the community. Significant kinematic and color-state dependences of the nuclear induced broadening/imbalance are predicted. In a Dirac semimetal, the massless Dirac fermion has zero chirality, leading to surface states connected adiabatically to a topologically trivial surface state as well as vanishing anomalous Hall effect (AHE). Recently, it is predicted that in the nonrelativistic limit of certain collinear antiferromagnets, there exists a type of chiral Dirac-like fermion, whose dispersion manifests four-fold degenerate crossing points formed by spin-degenerate linear bands, with topologically protected Fermi arcs. Such unconventional chiral fermion, protected by a hidden SU(2) symmetry in the hierarchy of an enhanced crystallographic group, namely spin space group, is not experimentally verified yet. Here, by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements, we reveal the surface origin of the electron pocket at the Fermi surface in collinear antiferromagnet CoNb3S6. Combining with neutron diffraction and first-principles calculations, we suggest a multidomain collinear AFM configuration, rendering the the existence of the Fermi-arc surface states induced by chiral Dirac-like fermions. Our work provides spectral evidence of the chiral Dirac-like fermion caused by particular spin symmetry in CoNb3S6, paving an avenue for exploring new emergent phenomena in antiferromagnets with unconventional quasiparticle excitations., Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures

We investigate the impact of the magnetic field generated by colliding nuclei on heavy quark-antiquark interactions and heavy quark dynamics in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). By means of hard-thermal-loop resummation technique combined with dimension-two gluon condensates, the static heavy quark potential and heavy quark momentum diffusion coefficient, which incorporate both perturbative and non-perturbative interactions between heavy quarks and the QGP medium, are computed beyond the lowest Landau level approximation. We find that the imaginary part of the heavy quark potential in the magnetic field exhibits significant anisotropy. Specifically, the absolute value of the imaginary part is larger when the quark-antiquark separation is aligned perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, compared to when it is aligned parallel to the magnetic field direction. The heavy quark momentum diffusion coefficient in the magnetized QGP medium also becomes anisotropic. As the temperature rises, the influence of higher Landau levels becomes increasingly significant, resulting in a decrease in the anisotropy ratio of the heavy quark momentum diffusion coefficient to values even below 1. At sufficiently high temperatures, this ratio ultimately approaches 1. The non-perturbative interactions are indispensable for understanding heavy quark dynamics in the low-temperature region. The kagome-lattice crystal hosts various intriguing properties including the frustrated magnetism, charge order, topological state, superconductivity and correlated phenomena. To achieve high-performance kagome-lattice compounds for electronic and spintronic applications, careful tuning of the band structure would be desired. Here, the electronic structures of kagome-lattice crystal Ni3In2S2 were investigated by transport measurements, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy as well as ab initio calculations. The transport measurements reveal Ni3In2S2 as a compensated semimetal with record-high carrier mobility (~8683 cm2 V-1 S-1 and 7356 cm2 V-1 S-1 for holes and electrons) and extreme magnetoresistance (15518% at 2 K and 13 T) among kagome-lattice materials. These extraordinary properties are well explained by its band structure with indirect gap, small electron/hole pockets and large bandwidth of the 3d electrons of Ni on the kagome lattice. This work demonstrates that the crystal field and doping serve as the key tuning knobs to optimize the transport properties in kagome-lattice crystals. Our work provides material basis and optimization routes for kagome-lattice semimetals as electronics and spintronics applications.

Utilizing the Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann reduction formula, we present a new general framework for computing scattering amplitudes in quantum field theory with quantum computers in a fully nonperturbative way. In this framework, one only has to construct one-particle states of zero momentum, and no wave packets of incoming particles are needed. The framework is able to incorporate scatterings of bound states, and is ideal for scatterings involving a small number of particles. We expect this framework to have particular advantages when applied to exclusive hadron scatterings. As a proof of concept, by simulations on classical hardware, we demonstrate that in the one-flavor Gross-Neveu model, the fermion propagator, the connected fermion four-point function, and the propagator of a fermion-antifermion bound state obtained from our proposed quantum algorithm have the desired pole structure crucial to the implementation of the Lehmann-Symanzik-Zimmermann reduction formula., Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures; version published in PRD; Fig. 1 modified, 2 new figures added; estimate on computational complexity modified, example 1 removed, simulations of a four-point function and the propagator of a composite operator added to the study of Gross-Neveu model

This research synthesis aims to assess the state of research on the efficacy of high-impact practices (HIPs) in higher education broadly and with regard to the efficacy of community-based and civic engagement specifically. The focus of this synthesis has been intentionally narrowed to highlight common themes across empirical studies that meet a defined set of criteria for methodological scope and scale to better aggregate available evidence and clarify new empirical gaps. The parameters for the synthesis are intended to address the lack of generalizability resulting from much of the existing research on community-based and civic engagement that is focused on a single locale (e.g., campus or program) and/or based on small sample sizes (i.e., fewer than one hundred students). As such, this research synthesis includes only studies with a degree of scale that enables greater generalizability of findings, such as those that span multiple years and/or involve multiple institutions or multiple cohorts at a single institution. In Part I of this research synthesis, the authors review recent literature on the efficacy of HIPs on a range of student success measures. Part II presents an empirical analysis of the existing evidence on community-based and civic engagement specifically.

We investigate the medium modifications of momentum splitting fraction and groomed jet radius with both dynamical grooming and soft drop algorithms in heavy-ion collisions. In the calculation, the partonic spectrum of initial hard scattering in p+p collisions is provided by the event generator PYTHIA 8, and the energy loss of fast parton traversing in a hot/dense QCD medium is simulated with the Linear Boltzmann Transport (LBT) model. We predict the normalized distributions of the groomed jet radius $\theta_g$ and momentum splitting fraction $z_g$ with the dynamical grooming algorithm in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV, then compare these quantities in dynamical grooming at $a=0.1$, with that in soft drop at $z_{\mathrm{cut}} = 0.1$ and $\beta = 0$. It is found that the normalized distribution ratios Pb+Pb/p+p with respect to $z_g$ in $z_{\mathrm{cut}} = 0.1$, $\beta = 0$ soft drop case are close to unity and those in $a=0.1$ dynamical grooming case show enhancement at small $z_g$, and Pb+Pb/p+p with respect to $\theta_g$ in the dynamical grooming case demonstrate weaker modification than those in the soft drop counterparts. We further calculate the groomed jet number averaged momentum splitting fraction $\rm \langle z_g \rangle_{jets}$ and averaged groomed jet radius $\rm \langle \theta_g \rangle_{jets}$ in p+p and A+A for both grooming cases in three $p^{\rm ch, jet}_{\rm T}$ intervals, and find that the originally generated well balanced groomed jets will become more momentum imbalanced and less jet size narrowing due to jet quenching, and weaker medium modification of $z_g$ and $\theta_g$ in $a =0.1$ dynamical grooming case than in the soft drop counterparts., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables

In a magnetic metal, the Hall resistance is generally taken to be the sum of the ordinary Hall resistance and the anomalous Hall resistance. Here it is shown that this empirical relation is no longer valid when either the ordinary Hall angle or the anomalous Hall angle is not small. Using the proper conductivity relation, we reveal an unexpected magnetoresistance (MR) induced by the anomalous Hall effect (AHE). A $B$-linear MR arises and the sign of the slope depends on the sign of the anomalous Hall angle, giving rise to a characteristic bowtie shape. The Hall resistance in a single-band system can exhibit a nonlinearity which is usually considered as a characteristic of a two-band system. A $B$-symmetric component appears in the Hall. These effects reflect the fundamental difference between the ordinary Hall effect and the AHE. Furthermore, we experimentally reproduce the unusual MR and Hall reported before in Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ and show that these observations can be well explained by the proposed mechanism. MR often observed in quantum anomalous Hall insulators provides further confirmation of the picture.
