Abstract

Abstract Measurements of the $$\pi ^\pm $$ π± , $$K^\pm $$ K± , and proton double differential yields emitted from the surface of the 90-$$\hbox {cm}$$ cm -long carbon target (T2K replica) were performed for the incoming $$31\,$$ 31 $$\hbox {GeV}\!/\!c$$ GeV/c protons with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS using data collected during 2010 run. The double differential $$\pi ^\pm $$ π± yields were measured with increased precision compared to the previously published NA61/SHINE results, while the $$K^\pm $$ K± and proton yields were obtained for the first time. A strategy for dealing with the dependence of the results on the incoming proton beam profile is proposed. The purpose of these measurements is to reduce significantly the (anti)neutrino flux uncertainty in the T2K long-baseline neutrino experiment by constraining the production of (anti)neutrino ancestors coming from the T2K target.

Abstract

Abstract Measurements of inclusive spectra and mean multiplicities of $$\pi ^\pm $$ π± , K$$^\pm $$ ± , p and $${\bar{\text {p}}}$$ p¯ produced in inelastic p + p interactions at incident projectile momenta of 20, 31, 40, 80 and 158 $$\text{ GeV }/c$$ GeV/c ($$\sqrt{s} = $$ s= 6.3, 7.7, 8.8, 12.3 and 17.3 $$\text{ GeV }$$ GeV , respectively) were performed at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron using the large acceptance NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer. Spectra are presented as function of rapidity and transverse momentum and are compared to predictions of current models. The measurements serve as the baseline in the NA61/SHINE study of the properties of the onset of deconfinement and search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter.

Abstract

Abstract We present measurements of $$\rho ^0$$ ρ 0 , $$\omega $$ ω and K $$^{*0}$$ ∗ 0 spectra in $$\pi ^{-} + $$ π - + C production interactions at 158 $$\text{ GeV }{/}\text{ c }$$ GeV / c and $$\rho ^0$$ ρ 0 spectra at 350 $$\text{ GeV }{/}\text{ c }$$ GeV / c using the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN SPS. Spectra are presented as a function of the Feynman’s variable $$x_\text {F}$$ x F in the range $$0< x_\text {F} < 1$$ 0 < x F < 1 and $$0< x_\text {F} < 0.5$$ 0 < x F < 0.5 for 158 and 350 $$\text{ GeV }{/}\text{ c }$$ GeV / c respectively. Furthermore, we show comparisons with previous measurements and predictions of several hadronic interaction models. These measurements are essential for a better understanding of hadronic shower development and for improving the modeling of cosmic ray air showers.

Resumen. Se documenta por primera vez a Dicranotropis fuscoterminata (Berg) como especie asociada al cultivo de manzanos, se describe el dano en frutos y se amplia su limite de distribucion hacia el sur hasta la provincia de Rio Negro, Argentina. Se presentan sus rasgos anatomicos mas sobresalientes y se ilustran los adultos de ambos sexos y morfos alares con el objeto de facilitar su reconocimiento por parte de fruticultores y tecnicos agropecuarios. Se cita por primera vez a la especie Anagrus incarnatosimilis Soyka, parasitoide oofago de D. fuscoterminata.

Abstract

International audience; A mean field mechanical model describing the inelastic behavior and strong anisotropy of Directionally Solidified (DS) materials is developed. Its material parameters are calibrated by comparison with the Finite Element (FE) computation of a Representative Volume Element (RVE). In the case of a large grain alloy where microstructure size cannot be neglected with respect to geometrical variations, this approach is a good candidate to evaluate the local scatter coming from the material heterogeneity.

11. Potencialidad del uso de las microondas para la reacción de deshidrogenación de esteroides en microorganismos

Abstract

La baja eficiencia en la deshidrogenación de los 3-cetoesteroides ha sido siempre un punto de partida para el desarrollo de nuevas metodologías e incluso para el mejoramiento genético de los microorganismos biotransformadores. En particular, la enzima esteroide-1,2-deshidrogenasa capaz de formar androstadienodiona (ADD) ha sido estudiada en diferentes géneros de bacterias tales como: Mycobacterium, Arthrobacter y Nocardia. A pesar de los disímiles estudios realizados, aún es posible encontrar características de la enzima que permitan un mayor rendimiento en la conversión de los esteroides. Al estudiar la temperatura óptima y termoestabilidad de la enzima en Nocardioides simplex NCIMB 8929, se detectó una elevada estabilidad térmica. Esta característica permite trabajar en un intervalo entre 45-60°C, siendo 60°C su temperatura óptima. Teniendo en cuenta estos resultados, fueron irradiadas suspensiones celulares mediante reactor de microondas Maxidigest MX 350, en un rango de potencia desde 30 hasta 90 W, temperaturas registradas entre 50 y 90°C, utilizando para el registro un termómetro Digisense CA 862. En general, la actividad de la enzima fue superior al control. A temperaturas tan elevadas, cercanas a 80°C ocurrió un incremento en la actividad de 3.6 veces. En todos los casos estudiados, la sobrevivencia de las células fue superior si son calentadas por el efecto de las microondas (95.9% sobrevivencia a 50°C), mientras que al alcanzar igual temperatura por calentamiento convencional la sobrevivencia es de 0.4%.

Abstract

The resistance to androstandienedione (ADD) of industrial mycobacteria was demonstrated as a valuable approach to increasing ADD yield in sterol fermentations. Colonies growing at 1 mg/ml ADD in culture medium after nitrosoguanidine mutagenesis showed a differential behavior in respect to parentals in cholesterol biotransformation. In the presence of exogenous ADD, a substantial depletion of ADD production was observed in parental strains B3683 and Ex4, whereas it was unaffected, and even increased, in resistant colonies. An apparent reduction from ADD to androstandione and testosterone was also noticed. Furthermore, the ADD resistance phenotype may be related to the increase in steroid 1,2 dehydrogenase activity.

16. Application of a n-Phase Model to the Diffusion Coefficient of Chloride in Mortar.

Abstract

The determination of the chloride diffusion coefficient of a concrete is needed to help the prediction of the service life of concrete structure. In this paper, we propose first a critical review of models for chloride diffusion coefficients already used in literature at different scales and then we develop an analytical model, which takes into account the characteristics of the different phases of concrete. These materials are treated as a three-phase composite, consisting of a cement continuous phase, of an aggregates dispersed phase and of an interface transition zone. Chloride diffusion coefficient using an n-layered inclusion-based micromechanical modeling is predicted. The details of calculations are summarized hereafter and experimental measurements obtained on mortars are compared with predicted results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The observation of ultrahigh energy neutrinos (UHEνs) has become a priority in experimental astroparticle physics. UHEνs can be detected with a variety of techniques. In particular, neutrinos can interact in the atmosphere (downward-going ν) or in the Earth crust (Earth-skimming ν), producing air showers that can be observed with arrays of detectors at the ground. With the surface detector array of the Pierre Auger Observatory we can detect these types of cascades. The distinguishing signature for neutrino events is the presence of very inclined showers produced close to the ground (i.e., after having traversed a large amount of atmosphere). In this work we review the procedure and criteria established to search for UHEνs in the data collected with the ground array of the Pierre Auger Observatory. This includes Earth-skimming as well as downward-going neutrinos. No neutrino candidates have been found, which allows us to place competitive limits to the diffuse flux of UHEνs in the EeV range and above.
