Heart disease, a global killer with many variations like arrhythmia and heart failure, remains a major health concern. Traditional risk factors include age, cholesterol, diabetes, and blood pressure. Fortunately, artificial intelligence (AI) offers a promising solution. We have harnessed the power of AI, specifically deep learning and convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to develop Rhythmi, an innovative mobile ECG diagnosis device for heart disease detection. Rhythmi leverages extensive medical data from databases like MIT-BIH and BIDMC. These data empower the training and testing of the developed deep learning model to analyze ECG signals with accuracy, precision, sensitivity, specificity, and F1-score in identifying arrhythmias and other heart conditions, with performances reaching 98.52%, 98.55%, 98.52%, 99.26%, and 98.52%, respectively. Moreover, we tested Rhythmi in real time using a mobile device with a single-lead ECG sensor. This user-friendly prototype captures the ECG signal, transmits it to Rhythmi’s dedicated website, and provides instant diagnosis and feedback on the patient’s heart health. The developed mobile ECG diagnosis device addresses the main problems of traditional ECG diagnostic devices such as accessibility, cost, mobility, complexity, and data integration. However, we believe that despite the promising results, our system will still need intensive clinical validation in the future.

Background: Persistent posttraumatic symptoms (PPS) may manifest after a mild-moderate traumatic brain injury (mmTBI) even when standard brain imaging appears normal. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) represents a promising treatment that may ameliorate pathophysiological processes contributing to PPS.Objective/Hypothesis: We hypothesized that in a mmTBI population, active tDCS combined with training would result in greater improvement in executive functions and post-TBI cognitive symptoms and increased resting state connectivity of the stimulated region, i.e., left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) compared to control tDCS.Methods: Thirty-four subjects with mmTBI underwent baseline assessments of demographics, symptoms, and cognitive function as well as resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) in a subset of patients (n = 24). Primary outcome measures included NIH EXAMINER composite scores, and the Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI). All participants received 10 daily sessions of 30 min of executive function training coupled with active or control tDCS (2 mA, anode F3, cathode right deltoid). Imaging and assessments were re-obtained after the final training session, and assessments were repeated after 1 month. Mixed-models linear regression and repeated measures analyses of variance were calculated for main effects and interactions.Results: Both active and control groups demonstrated improvements in executive function (EXAMINER composite: p < 0.001) and posttraumatic symptoms (NSI cognitive: p = 0.01) from baseline to 1 month. Active anodal tDCS was associated with greater improvements in working memory reaction time compared to control (p = 0.007). Reaction time improvement correlated significantly with the degree of connectivity change between the right DLPFC and the left anterior insula (p = 0.02).Conclusion: Anodal tDCS improved reaction time on an online working memory task in a mmTBI population, and decreased connectivity between executive network and salience network nodes. These findings generate important hypotheses for the mechanism of recovery from PPS after mild-moderate TBI.

ABSTRACT Flavobacterium psychrophilum, the causative agent of bacterial cold water disease (BCWD), is one of the leading pathogens in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) aquaculture. To date, there is little knowledge of the transmission kinetics of F. psychrophilum over the course of infection. In particular, how transmission is affected by host genotype and pathogen exposure dosage are not well studied. In order to fill in these knowledge gaps, we exposed two divergently selected lines of rainbow trout (ARS‐Fp‐R and ARS‐Fp‐S) to a range of dosages of F. psychrophilum (strain CSF117‐10). We then measured mortality and bacterial shedding to estimate transmission risk at multiple time points since initial infection. As dosage increased, the number of fish shedding and the amount of bacteria shed increased ranging from 0% to 100% and 103 to 108 cells fish−1 h−1, respectively. In addition, we found that disease resistance (survival) was not correlated with transmission risk blocking, in that 67% of fish which shed bacteria experienced no clinical disease. In general, fish mortality began on Day 3, peaked between Days 5–7 and was higher in the ARS‐Fp‐R line. Results from this study could be used to develop epidemiological models and improve disease management, particularly in the context of aquaculture and selective breeding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Travelers to different countries have endemic/pandemic diseases can increase the risk of exposure to various infectious agents and can facilitate their spread across borders. Objectives: To determine the levels of travel health knowledge, attitudes and practices among travelers at international airports of KSA. Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted starting from 30 September, 2019 at the departure halls of King Abdulaziz International airport (KAIA). Representative sample adult travelers who were waiting to board were recruited. Results and Discussion: Good level of knowledge regarding travel health was observed among 28.2%. The majority of the participants (84.7%) got information about their destination prior to the trip. The main reported source of information was family/friends (53.8%). Negative health seeking behavior was observed among 70.8% of the participants. Purpose of the trip and duration of destination were significantly associated with health seeking behavior. Knowledge, attitude towards health information seeking behavior and practice-related to travel health among international travelers at King Abdulaziz International airport are insufficient.

Abstract National and local governments need to step up efforts to effectively implement the post‐2020 global biodiversity framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity to halt and reverse worsening biodiversity trends. Drawing on recent advances in interdisciplinary biodiversity science, we propose a framework for improved implementation by national and subnational governments. First, the identification of actions and the promotion of ownership across stakeholders need to recognize the multiple values of biodiversity and account for remote responsibility. Second, cross‐sectorial implementation and mainstreaming should adopt scalable and multifunctional ecosystem restoration approaches and target positive futures for nature and people. Third, assessment of progress and adaptive management can be informed by novel biodiversity monitoring and modeling approaches handling the multidimensionality of biodiversity change.

La compensation mutualisée en Allemagne (Ökokonto) s'est développée dès les années 1990. Dans la perspective d'une mise en regard des systèmes de compensation mutualisée français et allemand, nous proposons une analyse « Atouts, Faiblesses, Opportunités et Menaces » pour souligner les caractéristiques de la compensation par Ökokonto. Les principales implications écologiques, territoriales mais aussi organisationnelles sont mises en avant pour ensuite en tirer de premiers enseignements vis-à-vis de la pratique française de la compensation mutualisée.

Infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus (IHNV) and Flavobacterium psychrophilum are major pathogens of farmed rainbow trout. Improved control strategies are desired but the influence of on-farm environmental factors that lead to disease outbreaks remain poorly understood. Water reuse is an important environmental factor affecting disease. Prior studies have established a replicated outdoor-tank system capable of varying the exposure to reuse water by controlling water flow from commercial trout production raceways. The goal of this research was to evaluate the effect of constant or pulsed reuse water exposure on survival, pathogen prevalence, and pathogen load. Herein, we compared two commercial lines of rainbow trout, Clear Springs Food (CSF) and Troutex (Tx) that were either vaccinated against IHNV with a DNA vaccine or sham vaccinated. Background: Persistent post-traumatic symptoms (PPS) after traumatic brain injury (TBI) can lead to significant chronic functional impairment. Pseudocontinuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL) has been used in multiple studies to explore changes in cerebral blood flow (CBF) that may result in acute and chronic TBI, and is a promising neuroimaging modality for assessing response to therapies.Methods: Twenty-four subjects with chronic mild-moderate TBI (mmTBI) were enrolled in a pilot study of 10 days of computerized executive function training combined with active or sham anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for treatment of cognitive PPS. Behavioral surveys, neuropsychological testing, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with pCASL sequences to assess global and regional CBF were obtained before and after the training protocol.Results: Robust improvements in depression, anxiety, complex attention, and executive function were seen in both active and sham groups between the baseline and post-treatment visits. Global CBF decreased over time, with differences in regional CBF noted in the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG). Active stimulation was associated with static or increased CBF in the right IFG, whereas sham was associated with reduced CBF. Neuropsychological performance and behavioral symptoms were not associated with changes in CBF.Discussion: The current study suggests a complex picture between mmTBI, cerebral perfusion, and recovery. Changes in CBF may result from physiologic effect of the intervention, compensatory neural mechanisms, or confounding factors. Limitations include a small sample size and heterogenous injury sample, but these findings suggest promising directions for future studies of cognitive training paradigms in mmTBI.

O objetivo do artigo é apresentar, de forma cronológica, as alterações nas exigências formativas para a atuação nos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental contidas na legislação após a promulgação da Lei nº 9.394/1996. Evidencia-se que a exigência da formação superior para atuar nesse nível de ensino é abrandada e relativizada ao longo do tempo, com a manutenção da admissibilidade da formação no Curso Normal Médio/Magistério. Assim, as diretrizes atuais para a formação de professores para os anos iniciais do ensino fundamental são semelhantes àquelas presentes na LDB promulgada há mais de duas décadas.
