It is established that the strengthening of the energy security of the BRICS countries is influenced by the strengthening of political, economic and trade aspects of the partnership between the Russian Federation and the BRICS countries in the conditions of volatility of the external and internal environment. The article proposes directions for increasing the efficiency of energy security of BRICS countries.

Abstract

As a result of writing the article, theoretical and practical recommendations were developed for the study of the place and role of intellectualization of labor in ensuring global innovative development. It was found that the main source of innovative development is in the intellectual resources of society, and an increase in the intellectual level of the workforce at all levels (mega -, macro - and micro levels) will help meet demand in the world labor market. The block diagram ofthe employee's innovative development process is presented. A graphic interpretation of the dual interdependence between the creation of innovations and the use of the possibilities of intellectual resources in the modern international economy is proposed.

It has been established that knowledge today acquires fundamental importance for the functioning of the global economy and acts as a key product in the world market of scientific and technical products. It is concluded that international labor migration is one of the most important channels through which the global transfer of knowledge is carried out, as a result of which there is a transfer of experience, knowledge and skills from one country to another and a process of redistribution of qualiied personnel between the links of the world economy.

Abstract

The performance differential of large language models (LLM) between languages hinders their effective deployment in many regions, inhibiting the potential economic and societal value of generative AI tools in many communities. However, the development of functional LLMs in many languages (\ie, multilingual LLMs) is bottlenecked by the lack of high-quality evaluation resources in languages other than English. Moreover, current practices in multilingual benchmark construction often translate English resources, ignoring the regional and cultural knowledge of the environments in which multilingual systems would be used. In this work, we construct an evaluation suite of 197,243 QA pairs from local exam sources to measure the capabilities of multilingual LLMs in a variety of regional contexts. Our novel resource, INCLUDE, is a comprehensive knowledge- and reasoning-centric benchmark across 44 written languages that evaluates multilingual LLMs for performance in the actual language environments where they would be deployed.

7. Polarization position angle standard stars: a reassessment of $\theta$ and its variability for seventeen stars based on a decade of observations

Abstract

Observations of polarization position angle ($\theta$) standards made from 2014 to 2023 with the High Precision Polarimetric Instrument (HIPPI) and other HIPPI-class polarimeters in both hemispheres are used to investigate their variability. Multi-band data were first used to thoroughly recalibrate the instrument performance by bench-marking against carefully selected literature data. A novel Co-ordinate Difference Matrix (CDM) approach - which combines pairs of points - was then used to amalgamate monochromatic ($g^\prime$ band) observations from many observing runs and re-determine $\theta$ for 17 standard stars. The CDM algorithm was then integrated into a fitting routine and used to establish the impact of stellar variability on the measured position angle scatter. The approach yields variability detections for stars on long time scales that appear stable over short runs. The best position angle standards are $\ell$ Car, $o$ Sco, HD 154445, HD 161056 and $\iota^1$ Sco which are stable to $\leq$ 0.123$^\circ$. Position angle variability of 0.27-0.82$^\circ$, significant at the 3-$\sigma$ level, is found for 5 standards, including the Luminous Blue Variable HD 160529 and all but one of the other B/A-type supergiants (HD 80558, HD 111613, HD 183143 and 55 Cyg), most of which also appear likely to be variable in polarization magnitude ($p$) - there is no preferred orientation for the polarization in these objects, which are all classified as $\alpha$ Cygni variables. Despite this we make six key recommendations for observers - relating to data acquisition, processing and reporting - that will allow them to use these standards to achieve $<$ 0.1$^\circ$ precision in the telescope position angle with similar instrumentation, and allow data sets to be combined more accurately., Comment: 30 pages, 8 figures, 17 tables, 4 appendices; accepted to MNRAS. Abstract

GPT-4o is an autoregressive omni model that accepts as input any combination of text, audio, image, and video, and generates any combination of text, audio, and image outputs. It's trained end-to-end across text, vision, and audio, meaning all inputs and outputs are processed by the same neural network. GPT-4o can respond to audio inputs in as little as 232 milliseconds, with an average of 320 milliseconds, which is similar to human response time in conversation. It matches GPT-4 Turbo performance on text in English and code, with significant improvement on text in non-English languages, while also being much faster and 50\% cheaper in the API. GPT-4o is especially better at vision and audio understanding compared to existing models. In line with our commitment to building AI safely and consistent with our voluntary commitments to the White House, we are sharing the GPT-4o System Card, which includes our Preparedness Framework evaluations. In this System Card, we provide a detailed look at GPT-4o's capabilities, limitations, and safety evaluations across multiple categories, focusing on speech-to-speech while also evaluating text and image capabilities, and measures we've implemented to ensure the model is safe and aligned. We also include third-party assessments on dangerous capabilities, as well as discussion of potential societal impacts of GPT-4o's text and vision capabilities.

9. Optical Orientation of Mn$^{2+}$ Spins in Bulk (Zn, Mn)Se Induced by Magnetic Field

Abstract

The optical orientation of Mn$^{2+}$ spins in the first excited state $^4$T$_1$ was experimentally observed in bulk (Zn, Mn)Se ($x_\mathrm{Mn}=0.01$) in the an external magnetic field of up to $6\,$T in Faraday geometry. This occurred during quasi-resonant continuous wave circularly polarized photoexcitation of the intracenter d-d transitions. A non-monotonic dependence of the thermal circular polarization of the intracenter photoluminescence on the magnetic field was observed. A theoretical model is proposed to describe the selection rules for resonant optical d-d transitions of an isolated Mn$^{2+}$ ion in a ZnSe cubic crystal. These rules are based on the analysis of the total angular momentum symmetry for the ground ($^6$A$_1$) and first excited ($^4$T$_1$) states of the Mn$^{2+}$ ion. This discussion neglects the specific mechanism for spin-flip processes in a d-shell of the ion during optical excitation. The analysis is founded on the rotational symmetry of the effective total angular momenta and parity for each state as a whole. Additionally, the Jahn-Teller coupling of the excited state orbital parts with tetragonal ($e$-type) local distortions of the crystal lattice is considered. This coupling results in the segregation of cubic axes and spin projections on these axes due to weak spin-orbit and spin-spin coupling in the excited state. This leads to energy splitting for spin states with their projections of $\pm 1/2$ and $\pm 3/2$ on each axis distinguished by specific Jahn-Teller distortion in the corresponding atomic potential minimum. By introducing two different times of relaxation to reach thermodynamic equilibrium for $\pm 1/2$ and $\pm 3/2$ states in each Jahn-Teller configuration, an angle dependent optical orientation contribution in photoluminescence polarization arises in the presence of a magnetic field., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

10. Development of approaches to stratification of patients with schizophrenia based on cytokine levels using cluster analysis

Abstract

Introduction Alterations in a variety of immune parameters, including abnormal cytokine levels, are known to be found in schizophrenia. These changes can be useful in identifying patients with the most severe immune abnormalities. Objectives To develop approaches to stratification of schizophrenia patients based on cytokine levels using cluster analysis. Methods We recruited 53 patients (25 women/28 men) with a verified diagnosis of simple or paranoid schizophrenia and 37 healthy individuals (19 women/18 men) in our study. Serum levels of IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, TNFα, INFα, BAFF, GM-CSF, NGFβ, NRG1, and GDNF were determined using a MAGPIX multiplex analyzer (Luminex, USA). Statistical analysis was performed in Statistica 10. Results Principal component analysis and partial least-squares discriminant analysis showed that the combined multi-cytokine profiles of the studied groups differ. The results of the k-means cluster analysis are presented in Table 1 The most reliable results are obtained by a combination of 4 variable: IL-1β, IL- 4, BAFF and GDNF. Abstract

Molecular representation is a foundational element in our understanding of the physical world. Its importance ranges from the fundamentals of chemical reactions to the design of new therapies and materials. Previous molecular machine learning models have employed strings, fingerprints, global features, and simple molecular graphs that are inherently information-sparse representations. However, as the complexity of prediction tasks increases, the molecular representation needs to encode higher fidelity information. This work introduces a novel approach to infusing quantum-chemical-rich information into molecular graphs via stereoelectronic effects. We show that the explicit addition of stereoelectronic interactions significantly improves the performance of molecular machine learning models. Furthermore, stereoelectronics-infused representations can be learned and deployed with a tailored double graph neural network workflow, enabling its application to any downstream molecular machine learning task. Finally, we show that the learned representations allow for facile stereoelectronic evaluation of previously intractable systems, such as entire proteins, opening new avenues of molecular design., Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

The AMoRE collaboration searches for neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{100}$Mo using molybdate scintillating crystals via low temperature thermal calorimetric detection. The early phases of the experiment, AMoRE-pilot and AMoRE-I, have demonstrated competitive discovery potential. Presently, the AMoRE-II experiment, featuring a large detector array with about 90 kg of $^{100}$Mo isotope, is under construction.This paper discusses the baseline design and characterization of the lithium molybdate cryogenic calorimeters to be used in the AMoRE-II detector modules. The results from prototype setups that incorporate new housing structures and two different crystal masses (316 g and 517 - 521 g), operated at 10 mK temperature, show energy resolutions (FWHM) of 7.55 - 8.82 keV at the 2.615 MeV $^{208}$Tl $\gamma$ line, and effective light detection of 0.79 - 0.96 keV/MeV. The simultaneous heat and light detection enables clear separation of alpha particles with a discrimination power of 12.37 - 19.50 at the energy region around $^6$Li(n, $\alpha$)$^3$H with Q-value = 4.785 MeV. Promising detector performances were demonstrated at temperatures as high as 30 mK, which relaxes the temperature constraints for operating the large AMoRE-II array.

Abstract

AMoRE searches for the signature of neutrinoless double beta decay of $^{100}$Mo with a 100 kg sample of enriched $^{100}$Mo. Scintillating molybdate crystals coupled with a metallic magnetic calorimeter operate at milli-Kelvin temperatures to measure the energy of electrons emitted in the decay. As a demonstration of the full-scale AMoRE, we conducted AMoRE-I, a pre-experiment with 18 molybdate crystals, at the Yangyang Underground Laboratory for over two years. The exposure was 8.02 kg$\cdot$year (or 3.89 kg$_{\mathrm{^{100}Mo}}\cdot$year) and the total background rate near the Q-value was 0.025 $\pm$ 0.002 counts/keV/kg/year. We observed no indication of $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay and report a new lower limit of the half-life of $^{100}$Mo $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay as $ T^{0\nu}_{1/2}>3.0\times10^{24}~\mathrm{years}$ at 90\% confidence level. The effective Majorana mass limit range is $m_{\beta\beta}<$(210--610) meV using nuclear matrix elements estimated in the framework of different models, including the recent shell model calculations., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

Mass spectrometry is a widely used method to study molecules and processes in medicine, life sciences, chemistry, catalysis, and industrial product quality control, among many other applications. One of the main features of some mass spectrometry techniques is the extensive level of characterization (especially when coupled with chromatography and ion mobility methods, or a part of tandem mass spectrometry experiment) and a large amount of generated data per measurement. Terabyte scales can be easily reached with mass spectrometry studies. Consequently, mass spectrometry has faced the challenge of a high level of data disappearance. Researchers often neglect and then altogether lose access to the rich information mass spectrometry experiments could provide. With the development of machine learning methods, the opportunity arises to unlock the potential of these data, enabling previously inaccessible discoveries. The present perspective highlights reevaluation of mass spectrometry data analysis in the new generation of methods and describes significant challenges in the field, particularly related to problems involving the use of electrospray ionization. We argue that further applications of machine learning raise new requirements for instrumentation (increasing throughput and information density, decreasing pricing, and making more automation-friendly software), and once met, the field may experience significant transformation., Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

AMoRE-II aims to search for neutrinoless double beta decay with an array of 423 Li$_2$$^{100}$MoO$_4$ crystals operating in the cryogenic system as the main phase of the Advanced Molybdenum-based Rare process Experiment (AMoRE). AMoRE has been planned to operate in three phases: AMoRE-pilot, AMoRE-I, and AMoRE-II. AMoRE-II is currently being installed at the Yemi Underground Laboratory, located approximately 1000 meters deep in Jeongseon, Korea. The goal of AMoRE-II is to reach up to $T^{0\nu\beta\beta}_{1/2}$ $\sim$ 6 $\times$ 10$^{26}$ years, corresponding to an effective Majorana mass of 15 - 29 meV, covering all the inverted mass hierarchy regions. To achieve this, the background level of the experimental configurations and possible background sources of gamma and beta events should be well understood. We have intensively performed Monte Carlo simulations using the GEANT4 toolkit in all the experimental configurations with potential sources. We report the estimated background level that meets the 10$^{-4}$counts/(keV$\cdot$kg$\cdot$yr) requirement for AMoRE-II in the region of interest (ROI) and show the projected half-life sensitivity based on the simulation study.

Abstract

We write to report the discovery that Deneb is a large amplitude polarization variable. Over a ~400 d time span from August 2022 Deneb's polarization was typically around 3900 parts-per-million (ppm) in the SDSS g'-band. Yet, it varied by several hundred ppm in an irregular way on a timescale of weeks. The largest polarization change, amounting to 2500 ppm, occurred shortly after the last pulsation ``resumption'' event identified by Abt et al. (2023) in TESS photometry. The relationship between the observed polarization -- particularly corresponding to the resumption event -- and its brightness and H-alpha spectra suggests a mechanism involving density changes in its wind and/or extended atmosphere. Abstract

The Spin Physics Detector collaboration proposes to install a universal detector in the second interaction point of the NICA collider under construction (JINR, Dubna) to study the spin structure of the proton and deuteron and other spin-related phenomena using a unique possibility to operate with polarized proton and deuteron beams at a collision energy up to 27 GeV and a luminosity up to $10^{32}$ cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. As the main goal, the experiment aims to provide access to the gluon TMD PDFs in the proton and deuteron, as well as the gluon transversity distribution and tensor PDFs in the deuteron, via the measurement of specific single and double spin asymmetries using different complementary probes such as charmonia, open charm, and prompt photon production processes. Other polarized and unpolarized physics is possible, especially at the first stage of NICA operation with reduced luminosity and collision energy of the proton and ion beams. This document is dedicated exclusively to technical issues of the SPD setup construction.

18. Self - evaluation of social adaptation in patients with schizophrenia and metabolic syndrome

Abstract

Introduction Metabolic syndrome (MS) is an often co-occurring condition that occurs during antipsychotic therapy and impairs social functioning Objectives We tried to conduct a self - evaluation of social adaptation in patients with schizophrenia and MS Methods We examined 150 patients with schizophrenia receiving antipsychotic therapy at the clinics of Mental Health Research Institute. The study was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation 18-15-00011. The IDF criteria were used to diagnose metabolic syndrome. We used «The social adaptation self - evaluation scale» (SASS). Results 63 patients (42%) had MS and 87 patients (58%) did not. In the subgroup of patients with MS, 59 people (93.65%) had disabilities or were unemployed, in the group without MS - 82 (94.26%) patients. There were no statistically significant differences between the groups (p ≥ 0.05). In the patients with schizophrenia and concomitant MS, the median SSAS scores was 35 [29; 39], which corresponds mainly to a high level of self - evaluation of social adaptation. At the same time, in patients with schizophrenia and without MS, on the contrary, the self - evaluation of social adaptation was 30 [23; 38] points (p = 0.03914). Perhaps this is due to the great attention from relatives and doctors of general somatic practice and the primary medical network in connection with the risk of developing severe somatic pathology. Abstract

Introduction Medication is primary tactics in schizophrenia treatment. First and second generation antipsychotics (FGA and SGA respectively) affect on core symptoms. Unfortunately, it causes side effects. Metabolic syndrome one of them and includes large number of affections like body mass index changes, lipidemias, hypertension and others. Objectives To study the role of polymorphic variants FTO gene in metabolic syndrome in schizophrenia patients. Methods We were investigated 480 patients. Main criteria for inclusion in study was using antipsychotics, verified diagnosis of schizophrenia and metabolic syndrome. Mean age was 42,1±1,4 years. The metabolic syndrome was assessment based on clinical data. Standard phenol-chloroform protocol for DNA isolation was used. Genotyping was carried out on six SNP’s of FTO gene with real-time PCR. Statistical analysis was carried out with R 3.6.2 with basic functions and SNPassoc package. Results The distribution of genotypes for variants rs7185735 and rs9939609 was not in according to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (a p-value less than 0.05) and excluded from further analysis. Patients with schizophrenia were divided into two groups: patients with metabolic syndrome and patients without it. We did not identify any statistically significant associations between genotypes and alleles of FTO gene and metabolic syndrome. Conclusions We did not find any associations of alleles and genotypes of FTO gene with metabolic syndrome in schizophrenia patients from Siberia region. Metabolic syndrome needs more further studies with larger number of samples and different populations. Conflict of interest. The authors declare no conflict of interests. Introduction Schizophrenia is associated with lower life expectancy due to cardiovascular disease. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) occupies an important place among the main problems. Indicators of hormones regulating metabolism may be appealing candidates as biomarkers of metabolic side-effects. Introduction Metabolic disturbances are common in patients maintained on neuroleptics. These abnormalities significantly increase the physical comorbidity and mortality rates due to cardiovascular disease. We hypothesized that 5-HT receptor genes polymorphisms have associations with drug-induced metabolic syndrome development in schizophrenic patients. Objectives To investigate the role of polymorphic variants of serotonin receptors genes in the development of antipsychotic-induced metabolic syndrome. Methods 467 patients with schizophrenia receiving long-term antipsychotic therapy were investigated. The mean age was 40.0±11.6 years. The standard phenol-chloroform method for DNA isolation was used. Abstract

We report a study on the background of the Advanced Molybdenum-Based Rare process Experiment (AMoRE), a search for neutrinoless double beta decay (\znbb) of $^{100}$Mo. The pilot stage of the experiment was conducted using $\sim$1.9 kg of \CAMOO~ crystals at the Yangyang Underground Laboratory, South Korea, from 2015 to 2018. We compared the measured $\beta/\gamma$ energy spectra in three experimental configurations with the results of Monte Carlo simulations and identified the background sources in each configuration. We replaced several detector components and enhanced the neutron shielding to lower the background level between configurations. A limit on the half-life of $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay of $^{100}$Mo was found at $T_{1/2}^{0\nu} \ge 3.0\times 10^{23}$ years at 90\% confidence level, based on the measured background and its modeling. Further reduction of the background rate in the AMoRE-I and AMoRE-II are discussed.

26. Business Simulation Games in Developing Pre-Service Restaurant Managers' Speech Interaction Competence Using GPTChat

Abstract

The study aims to develop speech interaction skills in language learning of pre-service restaurant managers with focus on professional skills -- decision-making in conflict and non-conflict communication situations using business simulation games; to explore the effectiveness of GPTChat as a tool for the development of students' speech interaction competence in the context of business simulation games. A mixed research design was employed which involved 44 pre-service restaurant managers of the National University of Food technologies (Kyiv, Ukraine) in 2023. The quantitative research method was used to assess the students' level of speech interaction competence using the Fisher Criterion. The qualitative research method was used for analyzing and interpreting data of the experimental learning. The results showed that the pre-service restaurant managers who were consulted by teachers, used GPTChat and business simulation games for developing their speech interaction and decision-making skills had higher results than those who only used GPTChat. It has been found that business simulation games allow pre-service restaurant managers to better understand the nature of conflict and non-conflict situations in their professional field, develop speech interaction competence, practice in decision-making in simulation environment. GPTChat can be used as a tool for creating various professional situations, analysing the algorithms of decision-making in conflict and non-conflict situations.

Abstract

Reinforcement Learning (RL) is an emerging approach to control many dynamical systems for which classical control approaches are not applicable or insufficient. However, the resultant policies may not generalize to variations in the parameters that the system may exhibit. This paper presents a powerful yet simple algorithm in which collaboration is facilitated between RL agents that are trained independently to perform the same task but with different system parameters. The independency among agents allows the exploitation of multi-core processing to perform parallel training. Two examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique. The main demonstration is performed on a quadrotor with slung load tracking problem in a real-time experimental setup. It is shown that integrating the developed algorithm outperforms individual policies by reducing the RMSE tracking error. Abstract

Reinforcement learning is an emerging approach to control dynamical systems for which classical approaches are difficult to apply. However, trained agents may not generalize against the variations of system parameters. This paper presents the concept of dual-scale homogeneity, an important property in understating the scaling behavior of nonlinear systems. Furthermore, it also presents an effective yet simple approach to designing a parameter-dependent control law that homogenizes a nonlinear system. The presented approach is applied to two systems, demonstrating its ability to provide a consistent performance irrespective of parameters variations. To demonstrate the practicality of the proposed approach, the control policy is generated by a deep deterministic policy gradient to control the load position of a quadrotor with a slung load. The proposed synergy between the homogeneity transformations and reinforcement learning yields superior performance compared to other recent learning-based control techniques. It achieves a success rate of 96% in bringing the load to its designated target with a 3D RMSE of 0.0253 m. Abstract

As quantum computers based on superconducting qubit processors scale, cryogenic microwave components in the qubit control and readout chain must be appropriately tested and qualified to ensure consistent and high-fidelity quantum computation. However, the intersection of superconducting cryogenics and microwave electronics is a new domain with limited technical and commercial expertise. In this paper we validate a TaaS (testing-as-a-service) framework using an organizational workgroup model that consists of (1) a commercial Test House, (2) standard temperature Component Manufacturer, (3) Academic Partner, and (4) System Integrator to demonstrate a scalable model for the qualification of cryogenic microwave components. The goal of this model is to secure the supply chain and support the rapid growth of Quantum Computing (QC) technologies. The component test vehicle presented in this paper is a low-noise amplifier (LNA) which is a crucial component in the cryogenic chain to ensure adequate signal-to-noise of the qubit readout. We devise standard test metrics and protocols by which LNA performance is measured, including key parameters such as gain and flatness, reflection and isolation, operating bandwidth, and noise figure. We present details of the cryogenic testbed customized for LNA qualification, outline test methodologies, and present a suite of standard processes that are used to systematize data collation and reporting. The testbed is validated by reproducing parameters of a pre-characterized LNA. Its value is demonstrated by characterizing a proof-of-concept cryogenic LNA prototype. Finally, we describe the extension of our TaaS framework toward testing at scale for various active and passive cryogenic components used in QC.

Using a pseudo-gradient operator, that is, the operator defined by the symbol $i\lambda|\lambda|^{\beta-1}$ with some $0<\beta<\alpha$, the perturbation of the Markov process by the pseudo-gradient with a multiplier integrable at some great enough power is constructed. Such perturbation defines a family of evolution operators, the properties of which are investigated.

Transformer-based large language models are rapidly advancing in the field of machine learning research, with applications spanning natural language, biology, chemistry, and computer programming. Extreme scaling and reinforcement learning from human feedback have significantly improved the quality of generated text, enabling these models to perform various tasks and reason about their choices. In this paper, we present an Intelligent Agent system that combines multiple large language models for autonomous design, planning, and execution of scientific experiments. We showcase the Agent's scientific research capabilities with three distinct examples, with the most complex being the successful performance of catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Abstract

In this paper, we present a real-time system identification method based on relay feedback testing with applications to multirotor unmanned aerial vehicles. The proposed identification method provides an alternative to the expensive lab testing of certain UAV dynamic parameters. Moreover, it has the advantage of identifying the parameters that get changed throughout the operation of the UAV, which requires onboard identification methods. The modified relay feedback test (MRFT) is used to generate stable limit cycles at frequency points that reveal the underlying UAV dynamics. The locus of the perturbed relay system (LPRS) is used to predict the exact amplitude and frequency of these limit cycles. Real-time identification is achieved by using the homogeneity properties of the MRFT and the LPRS which are proven in this paper. The proposed identification method was tested experimentally to estimate the aerodynamic parameters as well as the onboard sensor's time delay parameters. The MRFT testing takes a few seconds to perform, and the identification computations take an average of 0.2 seconds to complete in modern embedded computers. The proposed identification method is compared against state-of-the-art alternatives. Abstract

We report the development of GPT-4, a large-scale, multimodal model which can accept image and text inputs and produce text outputs. While less capable than humans in many real-world scenarios, GPT-4 exhibits human-level performance on various professional and academic benchmarks, including passing a simulated bar exam with a score around the top 10% of test takers. GPT-4 is a Transformer-based model pre-trained to predict the next token in a document. The post-training alignment process results in improved performance on measures of factuality and adherence to desired behavior. A core component of this project was developing infrastructure and optimization methods that behave predictably across a wide range of scales.
