Abstract

A high statistics data sample of the $K^{+}$ decays is recorded by the OKA collaboration. A missing mass analysis is performed to search for a light invisible pseudoscalar axion-like particle (ALP) $a$ in the decay $K^{+} \to \pi^{+} \pi^{0} a$. No signal is observed, the upper limits for the branching ratio of the decay are calculated. The $90\%$ confidence level upper limit is changing from $2.5\cdot10^{-6}$ to $2\cdot10^{-7}$ for the ALP mass from 0 to 200 MeV/$c^{2}$, except for the region of $\pi^{0}$ mass, where the upper limit is $4.4\cdot10^{-6}$., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

Abstract

Results of a study of the $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^{0} e^{+} \nu \gamma $ decay at OKA setup are presented. More than 32000 events of this decay are observed. The differential spectra over the photon energy and the photon-electron opening angle in kaon rest frame are presented. The branching ratios, normalized to that of $K_{e3}$ decay are calculated for different cuts in $E^*_\gamma$ and $cos\Theta^{*}_{e\gamma}$. In particular, the branching ratio for $E^{*}_{\gamma}>30$ MeV and $\Theta^{*}_{e \gamma}>20^{\circ}$ is measured R = $\frac{Br(K^+ \rightarrow \pi^{0} e^{+} \nu_{e} \gamma) } {Br(K^+ \rightarrow \pi^{0} e^{+} \nu_{e})} $ = =(0.587$\pm$0.010($stat.$)$\pm$0.015($syst.$))$\times10^{-2}$, which is in a good agreement with ChPT $O(p^{4})$ calculations.

Abstract

A precise measurement of the vector and axial-vector form factors difference $F_V-F_A$ in the $K^+\rightarrow{\mu^+}{\nu_{\mu}}{\gamma}$ decay is presented. About 95K events of $K^+\rightarrow{\mu^+}{\nu_{\mu}}{\gamma}$ are selected in the OKA experiment. The result is $F_V-F_A=0.134\pm0.021(stat)\pm0.027(syst)$. Abstract

A high statistics data sample of the decays of $K^+$ mesons to three charged particles was accumulated by the OKA experiment in 2012 and 2013. This allowed to select a clean sample of about 450 events with $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\gamma$ decays with the energy of the photon in the kaon rest frame greater than 30 MeV. The measured branching fraction of the $K^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\gamma$, with $E_{\gamma}^{*}$ > 30 MeV is $(0.71 \pm 0.05) \times 10^{-5}$. The measured energy spectrum of the decay photon is compared with the prediction of the chiral perturbation theory to O$(p^{4})$. A search for an up-down asymmetry of the photon with respect to the hadronic system decay plane is also performed., Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, 1 table

Abstract

$K^{+}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\nu\overline{\nu}$ is one of the theoretically cleanest meson decay where to look for indirect effects of new physics complementary to LHC searches. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to measure the branching ratio of this decay with 10\% precision. NA62 took data in pilot runs in 2014 and 2015 reaching the final designed beam intensity. Abstract

A high statistics data sample of the $K^{+}\to\mu^{+}\nu_{\mu}$ decay was accumulated by the OKA experiment in 2012. The missing mass analysis was performed to search for the decay channel $K^{+}\to\mu^{+}\nu_{H}$ with a hypothetic stable heavy neutrino in the final state. The obtained missing mass spectrum does not show peaks which could be attributed to existence of stable heavy neutrinos in the mass range (220 $< m_{\nu_{H}} <$ 375) MeV$/c^{2}$. As a result, we obtain upper limits on the branching ratio and on the value of the mixing element $|U_{\mu H}|^{2}$., Comment: 11 pages, 10 figures

Abstract

Recent results from OKA setup concerning form factor studies in $K_{e3}$ decay are presented. About 5.25M events are selected for the analysis. The linear and quadratic slopes for the decay formfactor $f_{+}(t)$ are measured: $\lambda'_{+}=(26.1 \pm 0.35 \pm 0.28 )\times 10^{-3}$, $\lambda"_{+}=(1.91 \pm 0.19 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$. The scalar and tensor contributions are compatible with zero. Several alternative parametrizations are tried: the Pole fit parameter is found to be $M_V = 891 \pm 2.0$ MeV ; the parameter of the Dispersive parametrization is measured to be $\Lambda_+ =(24.58 \pm 0.18) \times 10^{-3}$. The presented results are considered as preliminary.

11. Strategy Instruction versus Direct Instruction in the Education of Young Adults with Intellectual Disabilities

Abstract

In the Netherlands, students with intellectual disabilities (ID) attend practical education (PE). Teachers generally use demonstration as a form of direct instruction (DI) and students have difficulty working independently. Strategy instruction (SI) is a question-answer-based method that stimulates students' autonomy by getting them to verbalize task strategies. A small scale teaching experiment involving a total of 33 students (aged 14 to 15 in four classes at two schools) was conducted. Classes were randomly assigned to SI or DI. Students who received SI had higher quality post-test assignments and were able to verbalize them better than students in the DI group.

Abstract

Abstract A precise measurement of the vector and axial-vector form factors difference $$F_V-F_A$$ FV-FA in the $$K^+\rightarrow {\mu ^+}{\nu _{\mu }}{\gamma }$$ K+→μ+νμγ decay is presented. About 95K events of $$K^+\rightarrow {\mu ^+}{\nu _{\mu }}{\gamma }$$ K+→μ+νμγ are selected in the OKA experiment. The result is $$F_V-F_A=0.134\pm 0.021(stat)\pm 0.027(syst)$$ FV-FA=0.134±0.021(stat)±0.027(syst) . Both errors are smaller than in the previous $$F_V-F_A$$ FV-FA measurements.

Abstract

Abstract A high statistics data sample of the decays of $$K^+$$ K+ mesons to three charged particles was accumulated by the OKA experiment in 2012 and 2013. This allowed to select a clean sample of about 450 events with $$K^{+}\rightarrow \pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\pi ^{+}\gamma $$ K+→π+π-π+γ decays with the energy of the photon in the kaon rest frame greater than 30 MeV. The measured branching fraction of the $$K^{+}\rightarrow \pi ^{+}\pi ^{-}\pi ^{+}\gamma $$ K+→π+π-π+γ , with $$E_{\gamma }^{*} > 30\ \hbox {MeV}$$ Eγ∗>30MeV is equal to $$(0.71 \pm 0.05) \times 10^{-5}$$ (0.71±0.05)×10-5 . The measured differential branching fraction over photon energy is compared with the prediction of the chiral perturbation theory to $${\mathcal {O}}(p^{4})$$ O(p4) . A search for an up-down asymmetry of the photon with respect to the hadronic system decay plane is also performed.

18. Video Instruction with Explanation to Another Person for Intellectually Disabled Students

Abstract

Intellectually disabled (ID) students in secondary education are often taught in an individual setting where video instruction is used. Especially, when the instruction is about complex assignments, many students may forget parts of it. In this study, we tried to find out if prompting ID students to explain video instruction would help them to improve their performance. Research with regular students indicated that explaining instructional materials can be effective (Roy & Chi, 2005). In a first experiment with 41 ID students in Dutch secondary education, we varied the complexity of assignments and compared students who first watched and then explained video instruction of assignments (n = 21) with students who watched twice but were not required to explain (n = 20). It turned out that only for complex assignments, explaining to another person was more effective for students' task performance than just watch video instruction. In the second experiment with 58 ID students, we repeated the study with complex assignments. The students in the experimental group (n = 29) improved more after explaining video instructions than the students who only watched videos (n = 29). The experimental group also had a more complete mental representation of an assignment and could better assess how well they had performed it.

Abstract

On the statistics of ~1.7 × 108 interactions of positively charged kaons on copper nuclei, coherent events of the K+π0 system production are selected. The cross sections for the Coulomb and coherent strong components and their interference in the region of the K*(892) meson are measured. The partial width for the decay K*(892) → K+γ is determined. When studying the mass spectrum of the K+π0 system, an effect which can be interpreted as the interference of the chiral anomaly and the K*(892) s-channel amplitudes is found. This gives an estimate for the ratio of the observed amplitude of the chiral anomaly to the theoretical one: Aexp/Ath = 0.9 ± 0.24(stat.) ± 0.3(syst.).

Abstract

Results of a study of the $$K^+ \rightarrow \pi ^{0} e^{+} \nu \gamma $$ K + → π 0 e + ν γ decay at OKA setup are presented. More than 32,000 events of this decay are observed. The differential spectra over the photon energy and the photon–electron opening angle in kaon rest frame are presented. The branching ratios, normalized to that of $$K_{e3}$$ K e 3 decay are calculated for different cuts on $$E^*_\gamma $$ E γ ∗ and $$cos\Theta ^{*}_{e\gamma }$$ c o s Θ e γ ∗ . In particular, the branching ratio for $$E^{*}_{\gamma }>30$$ E γ ∗ > 30 MeV and $$\Theta ^{*}_{e \gamma }>20^{\circ }$$ Θ e γ ∗ > 20 ∘ is measured R = $$\frac{Br(K^+ \rightarrow \pi ^{0} e^{+} \nu _{e} \gamma ) }{Br(K^+ \rightarrow \pi ^{0} e^{+} \nu _{e})} $$ B r ( K + → π 0 e + ν e γ ) B r ( K + → π 0 e + ν e ) = = (0.587±0.010(stat.)±0.015(syst.)) $$\times 10^{-2}$$ × 10 - 2 , which is in a good agreement with ChPT $$O(p^{4})$$ O ( p 4 ) calculations.

Abstract

Among the meson decays, K→πνν‾ are the cleanest environment, from the theoretical point of view, where to search for new physics effects. The NA62 Experiment at CERN SPS aims to measure the BR(K+→π+νν‾) with a 10% precision by the end of 2018. It has been commissioned with technical runs in 2014 and 2015, and some preliminary results of the detector performances and quality of data are here reported.

Abstract

A high statistics data sample of the $$K^{+}\rightarrow \mu ^{+}\nu _{\mu }$$ decay was accumulated by the OKA experiment in 2012. The missing mass analysis was performed to search for the decay channel $$K^{+}\rightarrow \mu ^{+}\nu _{H}$$ with a hypothetic stable heavy neutrino in the final state. The obtained missing mass spectrum does not show peaks that could be attributed to existence of stable heavy neutrinos in the mass range $$(270< m_{\nu _{H}} < 375)$$ MeV $$/c^{2}$$ . As a result, upper limits on the branching ratio and on the value of the mixing element $$|U_{\mu H}|^{2}$$ are obtained.
