Abstract

A nickel-free high nitrogen duplex stainless steel holding high Mn-content was friction stir spot welded under the various rotational speeds. The microstructure/texture evolutions of the joints and the correlated mechanical properties were investigated in detail. The ferrite and austenite constituent massive phases were refined down to the mean grain size of 0.9 μm and 1.1 μm, respectively. The microstructure evolutions revealed the activation of continuous dynamic recrystallization as the main restoration mechanism. This was further verified through the formation of Β- and Α-fiber shear texture in the specimens processed under the various processing condition. Besides the activation of different restoration micro-mechanisms in both ferrite and austenite, dynamic phase transformation of ferrite to austenite was also contributed in grain refinement. The transformation was facilitated by providing more diffusional paths through substructure development and grain refinement. The local and bulk mechanical properties of the joints were also assessed. The outstanding tensile-shear peak load of 12.8 KN obtained for the sample welded at 400 rpm was discussed relying on the developed ultrafine-grained microstructure and the maximum peak extension of 1.7 mm achieved at 600 rpm was attributed to the role of ferrite phase in strain accommodation.

Abstract

The effect of austenite stability on the sequence of room temperature strain accommodation has been investigated in Fe-0.07C-11.15Mn-5.6Al-0.12Si lightweight steel through employing interrupted tensile tests coupled with electron backscattered diffraction analysis. It has been found that in the microstructure holding finest grain size, the strain is mainly accommodated through austenite via transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect during the first stage of deformation (up to the true strain of 0.03), which hinders Kernel Average Misorientation (KAM) increment in constituent phases. Although, high stability of austenite limits the first deformation stage to low strains and the contribution of ferrite along with austenite is traced in the following stages as indicated by KAM increment, leading to higher TRIPing saturation strains, due to this simultaneous strain accommodation. However, by lowering the austenite stability, strain accommodation behaves differently in which case, low stability of the austenite leads to intensified TRIP effect which accommodates the imposed strains to larger strains (up to the true strain of 0.08) during the first stage. Respectively, due to intense TRIPing during the mentioned stage, KAM of both constituent phases remains low, but this severe solo accommodation decreases the fraction of austenite dramatically and saturates the capability for TRIP effect. Subsequently, load transfers from austenite to the ferrite during the second deformation stage leading to a sharp reduction in work hardening and increment in KAM value. Despite the microstructure holding higher austenite stability which represents simultaneous accommodation, sequential strain accommodation deteriorates the hardening capability and the strength/ductility balance of the material.

Abstract

Despite the increasing trend in liver resections for non-colorectal non-neuroendocrine liver metastases (NCNNLM), the role of surgery for these liver malignancies is still debated. Registries are an essential, reliable tool for assessing epidemiology, diagnosis, and therapeutic approach in a single hub, especially when data are dispersive and inconclusive, as in our case. The dissemination of this preliminary survey would allow us to understand if the creation of an International Registry is a viable option, while still offering a snapshot on this issue, investigating clinical practices worldwide. The steering committee designed an online questionnaire with Google Forms, which consisted of 37 questions, and was open from October 5th, 2022, to November 30th, 2022. It was disseminated using social media and mailing lists of the Italian Society of Endoscopic Surgery and New Technologies (SICE), the Association of Italian Surgeons in Europe (ACIE), and the Spanish Chapter of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Overall, 141 surgeons (approximately 18% of the total invitations sent) from 27 countries on four continents participated in the survey. Most respondents worked in general surgery units (62%), performing less than 50 liver resections/year (57%). A multidisciplinary discussion was currently performed to validate surgical indications for NCNNLM in 96% of respondents. The most commonly adopted selection criteria were liver resectability, RECIST criteria, and absence of extrahepatic disease. Primary tumors were generally of gastrointestinal (42%), breast (31%), and pancreaticobiliary origin (13%). The most common interventions were parenchymal-sparing resections (51% of respondents) of metachronous metastases with an open approach. Major post-operative complications (Clavien–Dindo > 2) occurred in up to 20% of the procedures, according to 44% of respondents. Abstract

Väitekirja elektrooniline versioon ei sisalda publikatsioone, Lämmastik on hädavajalik enamiku orgaaniliste ühendite biosünteesiks. Kolm peamist bakterirühma – tsüanobakterid (Nostocaceae), mügarbakterid (Rhizobiaceae ja Burkholderiaceae sugukondade proteobakterid) ja Frankia „kiirikseened“ (Frankiaceae aktinobakterite sugukond) – seovad õhulämmastikku nii iseseisvalt kui ka taimejuurtega sümbioosis olles. Käesolevas doktoritöös tutvustan morfoloogilistel ja fülogeneetilistel tõenditel põhinevat lämmastikku siduvate taimede andmebaasi NodDB. Geenijärjestusi kasutades uurisin varem kirjeldatud juuremügaraid moodustavate proteobakterite perekondade nod-faktorit ja hindasin sümbioosi arengut fülogenoomika põhjal. Prognoosisin, et mügarbakterite süsinikku siduv sümbioos arenes Rhizobiaceae sugukonnas ligi 51 miljonit aastat tagasi ja kandus horisontaalselt edasi mitmele α- ja β-proteobakteri taksonile. Kogusin ebatüüpilisi juurenooduleid moodustavate liikide Tribulus terrestris (seiglehelised, Zygophyllaceae) juureproove Lähis-Idast ja Roystonea regia (palmilised, Arecaceae) juureproove Kariibi mere saartelt. Pindsteriliseeritud juurenoodulitest eraldati ja sekveneeriti viie bakteritüvi genoomid ning metagenoomi andmed loodi 14 liikide T. terrestris ja R. regia juurenooduli proovile. Fülogenoomiline analüüs näitab, et taimeliikide T. terrestris ja R. regia proovidest eraldatud peamised bakteritaksonid on vastavalt Klebsiella ja Kosakonia (γ-proteobakterid). Taimeliigi T. terrestris juurenoodulite proovidest leidsin amplifitseerimise ja sekveneerimise tulemusel Sinorhizobium meliloti struktuurseid nod/nif geene. Erinevalt varasematest töödest ma ei tuvastatud metagenoomi andmete analüüsi põhjal T. terrestris juurenoodulites tsüanobakteriaalset infektsiooni. Järeldan, et taimeliikidel T. terrestris ja R. regia arenes loomulike “tühjade noodulite” teke rakusisese mügarbakterite infektsioonita. Taimeliikidel T. terrestris ja R. regia esineva bioloogilise lämmastiku sidumist võib seostada vastavalt S. meliloti ja K. sacchari bakteritega, mis hõivavad noodulilaadseid struktuure epi- või endofüütidena – kasvades kudedes sees või kudede pinnal. Selle töö tulemused lükkavad ümber hüpoteesi, mille kohaselt nodulatsiooni teke või selle eelsoodumus arenes teadaolevate lämmastikku siduvate katteseemnetaimede klaadi ühisel esivanemal ainult ühel korral. Pigem tekkis juursümbiontide toel õhulämmastiku sidumine õistaimedel korduvalt., Nitrogen (N) is essential to life because it is required for the biosynthesis of all N-containing organic compounds, such as proteins. Three main groups of bacteria – Nostocaceae (Cyanobacteria), rhizobia (Proteobacteria), and Frankia (Actinobacteria) fix atmospheric N both in a free-living form and in root symbiosis with plants. Here, we introduce the NodDB database of N-fixing plants based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence and discuss plant groups with conflicting reports and interpretations. We screened the Nod factor production capacity of nodule-inducing Proteobacteria genera using their genome sequences and assessed the evolutionary history of symbiosis based on phylogenomics. Based on molecular clock analysis, we estimate that rhizobial N-fixing symbiosis appeared for the first time in about 51 Mya (Eocene epoch) in Rhizobiaceae, and it was laterally transferred to multiple symbiotic taxa in the α- and β-Proteobacteria. We collected root samples of Tribulus terrestris L. (Zygophyllaceae) and R. regia Cook (Arecaceae) forming an atypical root nodule from the Middle East and the Caribbean, respectively. Genomes of five bacterial strains isolated from surface-sterilized root nodules were sequenced and metagenome data were generated for 14 nodule samples from T. terrestris and R. regia. Phylogenomic analysis indicates that the dominant bacterial species isolated from T. terrestris and R. regia are clustered with Klebsiella and Kosakonia (γ-Proteobacteria), respectively. structural nod/nif genes identified to Sinorhizobium meliloti could be amplified from T. terrestris root nodule samples. In contrast to previous reports, cyanobacterial infection in root nodules of T. terrestris was not detected based on metagenome sequence data analysis. We conclude that T. terrestris and R. regia evolved to produce natural 'empty nodules' without intracellular rhizobial infection. The demonstrated biological N fixation of T. terrestris and R. regia can be attributed to S. meliloti and K. sacchari respectively, which colonize the nodule-like structures as epi- or endophytes. Abstract

Background: Live birth rates (LBRs) have been separately evaluated in two poor ovarian responder (POR) classification methods. We designed the present study to compare the LBRs according to Bologna criteria or Patient-Oriented Strategies Encompassing IndividualizeD Oocyte Number (POSEIDON) group classifications to determine the important predictive factors for LBR in patients with POR. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated a database that contained clinical and laboratory information on infertility treatment cycles of all patients with at least one POR after standard controlled ovarian stimulation (COH) during in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection (IVF/ICSI) cycles from December 2015 to December 2017. The eligible data were collected and the subjects divided into five groups according to Bologna criteria and four groups according to POSEIDON group classification. Results: We assessed 812 patients diagnosed with POR; overall, 517 underwent embryo transfer (ET) during the last treatment cycle (63.6%). The results indicated a total clinical pregnancy rate of 19.3% (100 cases) and LBR of 16.1% (86 cases). According to Bologna criteria, 41 patients were not included in any group. Analysis of treatment cycle outcome showed that patients classified as Bologna group II had a higher LBR than the other groups. In terms of POSEIDON classification, all of the patients could be classified into groups. Patients in POSEIDON group 3 had the highest LBR. According to multivariable regression analysis, the significant independent variables that remained in the model as important predictive factors for live births were the number and quality (good and excellent) of the embryos transferred, and POSEIDON group 3 classification. Conclusion: The results indicated that the POSEIDON group classification could be more comprehensive and practical than Bologna criteria for diagnosing and categorizing POR patients. In addition, we noted that the number and quality of transferred embryos were the most important prognostic factors for live births in POR patients. Therefore, we suggest that clinicians consider COH protocols that have a freezing embryo strategy and the collection of more good quality embryos to improve the probability of a live birth.

23. Live birth rates in different subgroups of poor ovarian responders according to Bologna criteria and POSEIDON group classification

Abstract

Background Recently, some studies evaluated the live births rates (LBRs) in two poor ovarian responders (POR) classification methods separately, but present study was designed to compare the LBRs among different groups of patients on the basis of Bologna criteria or POSIEDON group classifications and find the important predictive factors for LBR in patients with POR. Methods In this cross-sectional study, the database containing clinical and laboratory information on infertility treatment cycles were evaluated from December 2015 to December 2017 and all the patients with at least one POR after standard controlled ovarian stimulation (COH) during IVF/ICSI cycles were evaluated. The eligible patients were enrolled and divided into five and four groups according to the Bologna criteria and POSEIDON groups’ classifications, respectively. Results 812 patients with POR diagnosis were investigated which in overall 517 of them had embryo transfer in the last treatment cycle (63.6%) and total clinical pregnancy rate 19.3% (100 cases) and live birth rates 16.1% (86 cases) were found. When the patients were grouped on the Basis of the POSEIDON classification, the highest LBR was observed in the POSEIDON group III. 24. The correlation of austenite stability and sequence of strain accommodation during room temperature deformation of a duplex lightweight steel

Abstract

The effect of austenite stability on the sequence of room temperature strain accommodation has been investigated in Fe-0.07C-11.15Mn-5.6Al-0.12Si lightweight steel through employing interrupted tensile tests coupled with electron backscattered diffraction analysis. It has been found that in the microstructure holding finest grain size, the strain is mainly accommodated through austenite via transformation induced plasticity (TRIP) effect during the first stage of deformation (up to the true strain of 0.03), which hinders Kernel Average Misorientation (KAM) increment in constituent phases. Although, high stability of austenite limits the first deformation stage to low strains and the contribution of ferrite along with austenite is traced in the following stages as indicated by KAM increment, leading to higher TRIPing saturation strains, due to this simultaneous strain accommodation. However, by lowering the austenite stability, strain accommodation behaves differently in which case, low stability of the austenite leads to intensified TRIP effect which accommodates the imposed strains to larger strains (up to the true strain of 0.08) during the first stage. Respectively, due to intense TRIPing during the mentioned stage, KAM of both constituent phases remains low, but this severe solo accommodation decreases the fraction of austenite dramatically and saturates the capability for TRIP effect. Subsequently, load transfers from austenite to the ferrite during the second deformation stage leading to a sharp reduction in work hardening and increment in KAM value. Despite the microstructure holding higher austenite stability which represents simultaneous accommodation, sequential strain accommodation deteriorates the hardening capability and the strength/ductility balance of the material.

Abstract

In this work a W-Band power amplifier is presented in $\pmb{0.1 \ \mu\mathrm{m}}$ GaAs pHEMT. The amplifier is composed of $\pmb{1\times 4}$ and $\pmb{1\times 8}$ driving stages for high gain and of three successive $\pmb{1\times 8}$ power stages for high power. The stages were designed using a developed generic unconditionally stable unit cell. The output combiner was designed very efficiently with only 0.75 dB insertion loss to present each active device with $\mathbf{Z_{opt}}$ . The amplifier has a small-signal gain above 25 dB and more than 26 dBm $\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{sat}}$ over 93–102 GHz. Due to the chosen topology, the amplifier presents a rapid saturation achieving almost $\mathrm{P}_{\mathrm{sat}}$ after 6 dB compression. The PA demonstrates a peak output power of 27.3 dBm between 96–98 GHz. The measured PAE is around 12% over 93–102 GHz. It is the first power amplifier in GaAs demonstrating 0.5W of output power above 90GHz. The chip size is $\pmb{3\times 3\ \mathrm{mm}^{2}}$ including pads.

Abstract

Capsule endoscopy is a method for recording images of the digestive tract. A patient swallows a capsule containing a tiny camera, which captures images that are then transmitted wirelessly to an external receiver for examination by a physician. The images are captured using a Bayer filter mosaic, such that each pixel in the raw captured images represents only one color: red, green or blue. Due to limited computational capabilities in the capsule and bandwidth constraints, low-complexity and efficient compression of Bayer endoscopy images is required before transmission. In this paper, we focus on the JPEG algorithm, and show how to adapt it for compressing Bayer endoscopy images. We show that by transformation to the YCgCo color space and appropriate optimization of parameters, significant improvement is achieved over the standard JPEG.

Abstract

During military escalations emergency departments provide treatment both to victims of conflict-related injuries and to routine admissions. This requires special deployment by the hospitals to optimize utilization of resources.To evaluate routine visits to the ED during Operation Cast Lead in Israel in 2008-2009.We obtained data regarding routine visits to the ED at Soroka University Medical Center throughout OCL. The visits one month before and after OCL and the corresponding periods one year previous served as controls.The mean number of daily visits throughout the study period (126 days) was 506 +/- 80.9, which was significantly lower during OCL (443.5 +/- 82) compared with the reference periods (P0.001). Compared to the reference periods, during OCL the rates were higher among Bedouins, visitors from the region closest to the Gaza Strip (30 km), patients transported to the ED by ambulance and patients of employment age; the rates were lower among children. No difference in the different periods was found in the rate of women patients, the rate of patients referred to the ED by a community physician, and hour of arrival. The overall in-hospital admission rate increased during OCL, mainly in the internal medicine and the obstetric departments. There was no change in the number of in-hospital births during OCL; however, the rate of preterm labors (32-36 weeks) decreased by 41% (P = 0.013).Throughout OCLthe number of routine ED visits decreased significantly compared to the control periods. This finding could help to optimize the utilization of hospital resources during similar periods.
