The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) has developed a COVID-19 continuum of services to protect special populations at high risk of COVID-19 made possible through inter-agency and public-private partnerships. We present descriptions of each element along with descriptive data. Lessons are discussed to inform future public health frameworks.

Background:Studies of the policy impact of entrepreneurship research are largely based on linear, instrumental conceptions of impact and have tended to ignore the complex, political and relational nature of the research-policy nexus, resulting in misrepresentation and understatement of the policy impact of this relatively recent field of research. Methods:Review of relevant literature and policy documents. Aims and objectives:We reassess the relationship between entrepreneurship research and selected policies in the UK since the early1980s and we identify the potential for research to influence policy, drawing on the extensive and growing policy impact literature that has not to date focused on the entrepreneurship domain. Findings:The impact of research on policy occurs through complex mechanisms operating in multiple spatial, temporal and other contexts. The primary contribution of this paper is to highlight the potential significance for this policy field of conceptual and enlightenment impacts over the long term. Significantly, we suggest that some research that was not explicitly driven by policy concerns – and which challenged existing orthodoxy – had some influence on UK entrepreneurship policy developments over the 1980–2020 period. Discussion and conclusions:We call for focused research to improve our understanding of the entrepreneurship research-policy nexus in different contexts and we advocate for the development of ecosystems that enable stakeholders to address the creative tension between ‘rigour’ and ‘relevance’ in business and policy research.

Invasive species are a major driver in the global decline of biodiversity. Invasive herpetofauna cause ecological harm through different mechanisms that vary in scope and severity, and Florida boasts more established nonnative herpetofauna species than any other region in the world. There, black spiny-tailed iguanas (Ctenosaura similis) are one of several large invasive reptiles known to occupy the burrows of the imperiled, native gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus) and may even exclude tortoises from their burrows. To test the hypothesis that iguanas exclude tortoises from their burrows, we conducted a field study on Gasparilla Island, Florida, USA. We used a burrow scope to estimate occupancy of each species within tortoise burrows at sites with and without sustained iguana removal efforts and modelled co-occurrence patterns between the two species. We used two-species occupancy analyses to test three predictions relating to gopher tortoise burrow use. Our results support the hypothesis that gopher tortoises are excluded from their burrows by black spiny-tailed iguanas. The energetic cost to a tortoise of excavating a new burrow is unknown but may be substantial. In addition, tortoises are more vulnerable to extreme temperatures and predation while searching for a new burrow location and digging a burrow. Our results also show that sustained iguana removal is likely effective at reducing iguana occupancy of tortoise burrows. Other large invasive reptiles and perhaps even some native species typically thought of as “burrow commensals” may have similar deleterious effects on tortoise behavior.

Purpose To describe the application of a big data science framework to develop a pain information model and to discuss the potential for its use in predictive modeling. Design and method This is an application of a cross-industry standard process for a data mining adapted framework (the Applied Healthcare Data Science Framework) to build an information model on pain management and its potential for predictive modeling. Data were derived from electronic health records and were composed of approximately 51,000 records of unique adult patients admitted to clinical and surgical units between July 2015 and June 2019. Findings The application of the Applied Healthcare Data Science Framework steps allowed the development of an information model on pain management, considering pain assessment, interventions, goals, and outcomes. The developed model has the potential to be used for predicting which patients are most likely to be discharged with self-reported pain. Conclusions Through the application of the framework, it is possible to support health professionals' decision making on the use of data to improve the effectiveness of pain management. Clinical relevance In the long term, the framework is intended to guide data science methodologies to personalize treatments, reduce costs, and improve health outcomes.

Soft rot bacteria are the main cause of early seed decay and stand losses in field grown potatoes. These bacteria are present in most surface water and colonize lenticels of early generation seed potatoes and cause disease when conditions are favorable for bacterial growth. Soft rot bacteria, formerly in the genus Erwinia, have been reclassified into the genera Dickeya and Pectobacterium. Because of their ubiquitous association with potato tubers, it is assumed that the soft rot bacteria is spread during handling and planting of seed potatoes and can potentially cause seed decay and blackleg. A soft rot bacterium new to the United States, Dickeya dianthicola was first recognized in 2015 (Secor, unpublished) as the cause of serious stand losses of potatoes in production sites in the eastern US. Replicated and commercial field trials using seed laboratory inoculated and naturally infected with D. dianthicola were conducted in multiple locations to determine spread from infected seed potatoes to healthy seed potatoes during handling and cutting. There is no evidence of increased stand losses or blackleg after simultaneous handling and cutting of Dickeya infected seed potatoes with seed potatoes free of Dickeya. Laboratory trials with labeled soft rot bacteria demonstrated spread of bacteria by cutting knives. There may be other factors that prevent establishment and infection by soft rot bacteria that may spread during seed potato cutting that need to be investigated. We conclude that spread of Dickeya bacteria during handling and cutting of seed potatoes is not a major cause of subsequent seed decay and blackleg resulting in increased stand losses in the field.

Use of electronic health record data is expanding to support quality improvement and research; however, this requires standardization of the data and validation within and across organizations. Information models (IMs) are created to standardize data elements into a logical organization that includes data elements, definitions, data types, values, and relationships. To be generalizable, these models need to be validated across organizations. The purpose of this case report is to describe a refined methodology for validation of flowsheet IMs and apply the revised process to a genitourinary IM created in one organization. The refined IM process, adding evidence and input from experts, produced a clinically relevant and evidence-based model of genitourinary care. The refined IM process provides a foundation for optimizing electronic health records with comparable nurse sensitive data that can add to common data models for continuity of care and ongoing use for quality improvement and research.

Background The taxonomic classification of Cannabis genus has been delineated through three main types: sativa (tall and less branched plant with long and narrow leaves), indica (short and highly branched plant with broader leaves) and ruderalis (heirloom type with short stature, less branching and small thick leaves). While still under discussion, particularly whether the genus is polytypic or monotypic, this broad classification reflects putative geographical origins of each group and putative chemotype and pharmacologic effect. Methods Here we describe a thorough investigation of cannabis accessions using a set of 23 highly informative and polymorphic SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) markers associated with important traits such as cannabinoid and terpenoid expression as well as fibre and resin production. The assay offers insight into cannabis population structure, phylogenetic relationship, population genetics and correlation to secondary metabolite concentrations. We demonstrate the utility of the assay for rapid, repeatable and cost-efficient genotyping of commercial and industrial cannabis accessions for use in product traceability, breeding programs, regulatory compliance and consumer education. Results We identified 5 clusters in the sample set, including industrial hemp (K5) and resin hemp, which likely underwent a bottleneck to stabilize cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) accumulation (K2, Type II & III). Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) resin (Type I) makes up the other three clusters with terpinolene (K4 - colloquial “sativa” or “Narrow Leaflet Drug” (NLD), myrcene/pinene (K1) and myrcene/limonene/linalool (K3 - colloquial “indica”, “Broad Leaflet Drug” (BLD), which also putatively harbour an active version of the cannabichrometic acid Synthase gene (CBCAS). Conclusion The final chemical compositions of cannabis products have key traits related to their genetic identities. Our analyses in the context of the NCBI Cannabis sativa Annotation Release 100 allows for hypothesis testing with regards to secondary metabolite production. Genetic markers related to secondary metabolite production will be important in many sectors of the cannabis marketplace. For example, markers related to THC production will be important for adaptable and compliant large-scale seed production under the new US Domestic Hemp Production Program.

Using vaccine data combined with electronic health records, we report that mRNA boosters provide greater protection than a two-dose regimen against SARS-CoV-2 infection and related hospitalizations. The benefit of a booster was more evident in the elderly and those with comorbidities. These results support the case for COVID-19 boosters.

This chapter explores the relationship between entrepreneurship skills and decent work (DW), and how policy can help achieve this. We review the entrepreneurship skills literature in the context of DW, highlighting the key entrepreneurship skills needed in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Thereafter, we extract lessons from selected policy initiatives in countries with broad similarities (Australia, Canada, United States and England), through the lens of DW. Our review draws on peer-reviewed journals and key United Nations and global entrepreneurship platform publications. Entrepreneurship skills deficiencies have a detrimental impact on the success and sustainability of SMEs. Yet, SME's survival and growth is currently crucial, whereby organizations need to transform in response to changing environmental, political, technological and consumer needs. This is intensified by the challenges of Covid-19, severely affecting DW and productivity. To develop and retain even a semblance of ‘decent work’, entrepreneurs need to develop appropriate skills and there is a need for suitable policy addressing this. In this chapter, we present lessons learnt based on our review and provide recommendations for entrepreneurship skills development policies aligning with DW.

Introduction Colonoscopy is a commonly-performed procedure to diagnose pathology of the large intestine. Perforation of the colon is a rare but feared complication. It is currently unclear how much force is actually required to cause such injury nor how this is altered in certain diseases. Our aim was to analyze the forces required to perforate the colon in experiments using porcine tissues. Methods Using 3D printing technology, models of two commercially available colonoscope heads were printed under three configurations: straight (I), 90°- bent (L) and fully bent (U). Samples of porcine colon were assessed with the models and configurations under perpendicular and angular load application and these data compared to the maximum force typically exerted by experienced colonoscopists. Results The force required for perforation was significantly lower for the I compared to the L of the larger colonoscope head configuration under angular loading (14.1 vs. 46.5 N). Similar differences were found for linear stiffness when loaded (I vs. L small when loaded perpendicular: 0.8 vs. 2.4 N/mm, I vs. L large when loaded angled 0.7 vs. 2.1 N/mm). The mode and site of failure varied significantly between the scopes, with delamination of the mucosa/submucosa below the sample (96%) for the I, blunt mucosa/submucosa/muscularis failure adjacent to the loading site (77%) for the L, and failure of all colon layers lateral to the loading site (59%) for the U configuration, respectively. Perpendicular and angulated loading resulted in similar load-deformation values. Maximum forces typically exerted by colonoscopists averaged 13.9–27.9 N, depending on the colonoscope model and head configuration. Discussion The force required for colon perforation varies depending on the type mode of loading and is likely lower than the force an experienced colonoscopist would exert in daily practice. There is a real risk of perforation, especially when the end of the scope is advancing directly into the colonic wall. The given experimental setup allowed to obtain reliable data of the colon in a standardized scenario, forming the basis for further experiments.

The goal of the Internet Engineering Task Force's Manufacturer Usage Description (MUD) specification is for Internet of Things (IoT) devices to behave as intended by the manufacturers of the devices. MUD provides a standard way for manufacturers to indicate the network communications that a device requires to perform its intended function. When MUD is used, the network will automatically permit the IoT device to send and receive only the traffic it requires to perform as intended, and the network will prohibit all other communication with the device, thereby increasing the device's resilience to network based attacks. In this project, the NCCoE demonstrated the ability to ensure that when an IoT device connects to a home or small-business network, MUD can automatically permit the device to send and receive only the traffic it requires to perform its intended function. This NIST Cybersecurity Practice Guide explains how MUD protocols and tools can reduce the vulnerability of IoT devices to botnets and other network-based threats as well as reduce the potential for harm from exploited IoT devices. It also shows IoT device developers and manufacturers, network equipment developers and manufacturers, and service providers who employ MUD-capable components how to integrate and use MUD to satisfy IoT users' security requirements.

Direct acting antiviral (DAA) hepatitis C (HCV) medications are funded in New Zealand since 2016 for some and since 2019 for all genotypes. The purpose of this study was to review New Zealand-wide data of the use of generic HCV DAA medications imported through Tasmanian FixHepC Buyer's Club and the associated side effect profiles.This is a retrospective data audit on the use of generic DAAs to treat HCV; outcomes from consecutive hepatitis C patients (naïve and pre-treated) treated with generic DAAs (sofosbuvir/ledipasvir, sofosbuvir/daclatasvir, sofosbuvir/ledipasvir, ribavirin) collected from all known sites that used Buyer's club medications in eight New Zealand district health board regions were summarised. Demographic, disease characteristics, FibroScan and blood markers' (platelets, ALT, GGT, AFP) data were collected.Study sample was 81.8% New Zealand European, 64.8% male of median 56.0 (IQR: 48.0-60.0) years old. Three participants (4.5%) were HIV positive. 74.7% of the participants had signs of fibrosis (F1-F4); 40.5% had cirrhosis/scaring (F4). 61.7% of the patients were naïve to treatment. 42.0%, 40.1% and 12.0% received sofosbuvir/ledipasvir, sofosbuvir/daclatasvir, sofosbuvir/velpatasvir, respectively; 32.1% also received ribavirin. 80.2% of patients received treatment for 12 weeks. 95.1% (154/162) of the sample achieved sustained virological response at 12 weeks post-treatment, 2.5% relapsed, 1.2% were lost to follow-up. The main minor side effects included fatigue, headache, difficulty sleeping, experienced by 21.7%, 7.0%, 7.0%, respectively. An average total cost for medication and monitoring was 2,027 to 2,659 NZD (12 weeks), and 3,054 to 4,260 NZD (24 weeks) per patient.Generic DAAs to treat hepatitis C are safe, efficient and a cheaper than branded medications option.

We designed this qualitative research study to better understand the experiences of college students in a United States context who do not seek counseling for their perceived need for help, and to address barriers that prevent them from doing so. The results of this phenomenological study indicate three barriers: negative feelings based upon ones’ past-experience with counseling, the stigma that surrounds a need for counseling, and the messages participants received from their parents regarding counseling. This research paper will elaborate on this study and will provide helpful information related to breaking these barriers.

To identify practice, attitudes, and potential barriers to treatment of Hepatitis C to primary care practitioners. A postal survey of general practitioners in New Zealand. Nationwide postal survey to all general practitioners in New Zealand. All general practitioners in New Zealand identified by their association with Primary Health Organizations. Identification barriers to treatment of Hepatitis C amenable to intervention by general practitioners in New Zealand. 3817 general practitioners surveyed. 925 (24.2%) surveys returned. 187 (21%) currently prescribe Hepatitis C medications. 620 (70%) indicated that no general practitioner in their practice had interest in managing Hepatitis C therapy. Hepatitis C training was associated with increased prescribing activity—29% in those with training versus 10% in those without training. Confidence levels in initiating or continuing Hepatitis C therapy significantly rose from 23.8 and 47.8 to 50.2 and 67.7, respectively, with training. Inadequate reimbursement (44%), too few Hepatitis C patients (40%), and caseload with other patients (40%) were the most frequently identified barriers to treatment. Difficulty in obtaining transient elastography (35%) prior to treatment, lack of training (32%), and the perception that Hepatitis C therapy should be done by a specialist (30%) were also frequently reported barriers. General practitioners consistently underestimated the prevalence of Hepatitis C in their practice by a factor of 4.3 to 13.6 (based on an estimated prevalence of 1.9%). Although the most frequently cited barrier to general practitioner treatment of HCV was reimbursement, this is entwined with other purported barriers such as complexity of the patients, time commitment, caseload, and need for expertise. A lack of awareness of the prevalence of Hepatitis C in the general population is an important barrier. A comprehensive strategy to address multiple barriers, improve treatment regimens, and increase awareness of HCV is needed for ultimate success in the eradication of HCV in New Zealand and worldwide.

The Middleback Ranges is a major iron ore belt in the southeastern region of the Gawler Craton, South Australia, interpreted to be of BIF origin. Iron ore deposits are hosted within ∼2550 Ma metasedimentary rocks of the Middleback Group and occur as a series of N-S trending hills, forming a ∼60 km-long magnetic anomaly. A petrographic-geochemical study of iron-oxides from BIFs and iron ores was undertaken on samples from thirteen locations spanning the strike of the belt. Iron-oxides are texturally diverse due to multiple processes accompanying and postdating ore formation. Primary magnetite features preserved in the southern segment of the belt display distinct overprinting features (e.g., increased porosity, reworked grain boundaries) and multiple generations of growth associated with deposition of trace minerals, including native gold. Northwards along strike, this overprint is expressed by the pseudomorphic replacement of magnetite by hematite (martite) and is locally associated with brecciation, the presence of rare earth element (REE)-minerals, and replacement by iron-hydroxides. Whereas evidence of microplaty hematite accompanying martitization and predating iron-hydroxides is observed throughout the belt, distinct iron-oxide generations postdating the iron-hydroxides are inferred based on compositional zoning with respect to Si and intimate relationships between iron-oxides and -hydroxides. Chondrite-normalized fractionation trends obtained from the various iron-oxides and from different BIF types generally display LREE-enrichment and distinct positive Eu- and Y-anomalies. An increasing ΣREY- and LREE-trend accompanies martitization. The presence of specific element groups, e.g., granitophile elements (U, W, Sn, Mo), or transition metals (Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Ti, V, Nb) within the lattice of iron-oxides suggests their formation in evolving environments associated with the emplacement of felsic and mafic lithologies, respectively. The impact of local setting on iron-oxide formation is highlighted by complex trace element signatures of iron-oxides; the northern segment of the belt is relatively enriched in As and Sb, while the southern segment is enriched in granitophile elements and REY. Further complexity is shown in the local variation of Mn and Zn in iron-oxides in the southern segment of the belt, where the Iron Magnet deposit shows the strongest correlation between the two elements. Various depositional settings for BIFs are inferred based upon Post-Archean Australian Shale-normalized REY fractionation trends of iron-oxides and various water types. These settings include environments where iron-minerals precipitate from mixtures of 1) anoxic seawater and high-temperature hydrothermal fluids, 2) anoxic seawater and low-temperature hydrothermal fluids, and 3) oxygen-richer seawater and low-temperature hydrothermal fluids. A genetic model for ore formation is proposed based upon textural and compositional variations observed in iron-oxides throughout the belt and includes formation resulting from supergene fluids rich in elements leached from local granites penetrating BIF, interaction with granite-derived hydrothermal fluids, and heat generated during emplacement of younger dikes. Recognition of petrographic features linked to changes in composition demonstrates the utility of iron-oxides to trace iron ore formation in a temporal and spatial context, with implications for ore genesis and models of mineral exploration.

Through an empirically grounded analysis of contested interpretations of\ud impact held by business school academics and wider stakeholders, we\ud provide a political and relational understanding of research impact\ud whereby impacts are realized through situated, relational and ongoing\ud interactions. Our qualitative study of three UK business and management\ud schools, comprising interviews with around 70 researchers, academic\ud leaders and stakeholders explores conceptualizations of impact,\ud examines the processes through which impact is achieved and considers\ud the influence of the Research Excellence Framework (REF). The inclusion\ud of academic leaders and business stakeholders adds value to studies\ud that have focused primarily on academic researchers. We present a\ud nuanced picture of the ways in which academics and business\ud stakeholders conceptualize impact and navigate the complexity of roles\ud and relationships in this arena. Implications for practice include the\ud desirability of embracing different understandings of impact, creating\ud space for generative dialogue and incorporating impact more explicitly\ud in teaching and learning.

Among all the improvised explosive devices (IEDs) known, pipe bombs are one of the most popular devices used by terrorists. They are simple to use, easy to construct and materials are readily available. For this IED, fragmentation is the primary injury mechanism, which makes them a desirable weapon for terrorists aiming to inflict maximum human casualties. Although the investigation of fragmentation pattern is not novel, there is limited data available on pipe bombs performance in the open literature. Therefore, this research is looking at validating results in current literature, which showed limited repetition and weak experimental design so far; by trial with six pipe bombs with two different thickness (3 of each). The pipe bombs consisted of mild steel casing and aluminised ammonium nitrate as the explosive filler. Fragments were collected, with an average recovery of 72%, and measured regarding mass and velocity. The experiment results show a correlation between the pipe thickness and both the size and velocity of fragments.
