In this work we study, both theoretically and experimentally, the tomography of the spatial structure of light. We consider a a spatially structured light mode that is specified by coefficients with respect to some basis, such as the Laguerre-Gaussian or Hermite-Gaussian modes. Our aim is to retrieve these coefficients given only spatially resolved intensity measurements. We explore a mathematical analogy between this problem and quantum state tomography, which allows us to readily utilize many techniques of this well established field. In order to demonstrate the robustness of our approach, we apply it to several different experimental scenarios: intense light beams in a variety of basis, the photocount regime, and beams obstructed by obstacles. The method is also extremely fast, being able to perform the tomography of a 6-dimensional state at around 50$\mu$s. The work here presented is expected to help the development of characterization techniques in the field of structured light and in its application for both classical and quantum information protocols.

3. Anomalous Second Harmonic Generation of Twisted Gaussian Schell Model Beams

We investigate theoretically and experimentally the optical second harmonic generation (SHG) with a twisted Gaussian Schell model (TGSM) beam as the fundamental field. We use Type-II phase matching and analyze the cross spectral density (CSD) of the SHG output beam when the input fundamental is prepared with a TGSM structure. We analyze two synthetization methods for preparing the TGSM fundamental beam and we find that for one method the SHG is also a TGSM beam. For the other method, we find that the SHG is not a TGSM beam and presents an anomalous CSD possessing a dip instead of a peak in the transverse spatial structure. Moreover, we show that the dip depth is directly related to the twisted phase parameter, being absent for a non twisted GSM beam. Our results show that the SHG from a fundamental TGSM beam can result in a doubled frequency TGSM or in a non-TGSM beam depending on the synthetization method.

Background: Despite the number of research studies regarding the individual burden of migraine, few studies have examined its impact on the patients’ partners. We aim to assess migraine effects on the patients’ partners on sentimental relationship, children relationship, friendship, and work, as well as the caregiver burden, anxiety and/or depression. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted through an online survey of partners of patients with migraine followed-up in 5 Headache Units. Questions about the 4 areas of interest and 2 scales (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Zarit scale) were included. Scores were compared against the population prevalence. Results: One hundred and fifty-five answers were analysed. Among the patient’s partners 135/155 (87.1%) were men, with a mean age of 45.6 ± 10.1 years. Migraine’s main effects on partners were observed in the sentimental relationship and items concerning children and friendships, with a minor impact at work. Partners showed a moderate burden (12/155 = 7.7% [4.1%–13.1%]), and a higher moderate-severe anxiety rate (23/155 = 14.8% [9.6%–21.4%]), and similar depression rate (5/155 = 3.2% [1.1%–7.3%]) compared to the National Health Survey. Conclusions: The burden of migraine impacts the partners’ personal relationship, childcare, friendship and work. Moreover, certain migraine partners showed a moderate burden according to Zarit scale and higher anxiety levels than the Spanish population. Resumen: Introducción y objetivos: Diversos estudios han evaluado la sobrecarga individual de la migraña, sin embargo, pocos estudios han examinado su impacto en las parejas de los pacientes. Nuestro objetivo es evaluar los efectos de la migraña en las parejas de los pacientes sobre la relación sentimental, la relación con los hijos, la amistad y el trabajo, así como la sobrecarga del cuidador, la ansiedad y/o la depresión. Material y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional transversal a través de un cuestionario en línea a las parejas de pacientes con migraña seguidos en cinco Unidades de Cefalea. Se incluyeron preguntas sobre las cuatro áreas de interés y dos escalas (Escala de Ansiedad y Depresión Hospitalaria y escala de Zarit). Las puntuaciones se compararon con la prevalencia de la población según la Encuesta Nacional de Salud. Resultados: Se analizaron ciento cincuenta y cinco respuestas. Las parejas de los pacientes con migraña fueron 135/155 (87.1%) hombres, edad media de 45.6 ± 10.1 years; Los principales efectos de la migraña en la pareja se observaron en la relación sentimental y en los ítems relativos a los hijos y las amistades, con menor impacto en el trabajo. Las parejas mostraron una carga moderada (12/155 = 7,7%[4,1%-13,1%]), y una tasa de ansiedad moderada-grave más alta (23/155 = 14,8%[9,6%-21,4%]) y una tasa de depresión similar (5/155 = 3,2%[1,1%-7,3%]) respecto a la población española. Conclusiones: La carga de la migraña tiene un impacto en la relación personal de la pareja, el cuidado de los hijos, la amistad y el trabajo. Además, algunos cuidadores de pacientes con migraña presentan una carga moderada y niveles de ansiedad más altos que la población española.

Abstract Background Due to their environmentally friendly character, entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) are becoming increasingly used as microbial agents in biological pest control over chemical pesticides. However, EPF are sensitive to the influence of abiotic factors, such as temperature, radiation, and humidity. To improve their efficiency as bioinsecticides, in this work, the development of a new microparticles-based formulation loading EPF conidia (B. bassiana aerial conidia) into sodium alginate/maltodextrin microparticles obtained by spray-drying was proposed. Different concentrations of both polysaccharides were tested to reach the optimal ratio and ensure a high viability of encapsulated conidia. The Amazon is home to a vast biodiversity and plays a crucial role in the maintenance and conservation of the planet. The progress of anthropogenic activities in the region is one of the drivers of land cover change. Studying these changes through remote sensing enables the monitoring of degradation and deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. Using bibliometric tools this study analyses the different remote sensing approaches for land use and land cover monitoring in the Amazon. The methodology includes 1) data search and collection, 2) tool selection and data processing, and 3) data and trend analysis. The results indicate that studies on forest loss and biodiversity are trending in the field. Emerging topics focus on new tools for environmental impact assessment and evaluating new computational technologies for satellite data management.

Abstract This study was conducted with the objective of evaluating the impact of replacing inorganic mineral sources (IM) with amino acid complexed minerals (AACM) in laying hens’ diets on performance, egg quality, bone, and intestinal health. The effects of 4 different diets with varying levels of AACM substitution were evaluated on 400 Lohmann White hens aged 78–98 weeks. The control diet contained only IM sources at levels of 60, 60, 7, 40, 0.2, and 2 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, Cu, Fe, Se, and I, respectively. The other treatments were made by a total substitution of IM with AACM, as follows: AACM70–70% of IM levels; AACM50–50% of IM levels; and AACM40–40% of IM levels. Abstract This study investigates the impact of habitual late calorie intake on glucose metabolism in adults with overweight or obesity and diet or metformin-controlled prediabetes or type 2 diabetes independently of body weight, fat mass, energy intake or diet composition. Participants (n = 26) were classified as Later Eaters (LE) if ≥45% daily calories were consumed after 5 pm and Early Eaters (EE) if not, based on daily caloric intake assessed over 2-wk. EE and LE did not differ in anthropometrics or daily energy intake, but LE consumed more carbohydrates (p = 0.038) and fats (p = 0.039) after 5 pm. Atrial fibrillation (AF) and stroke are prevalent conditions worldwide, and the AF burden is expected to concentrate in low- and middle-income countries like Brazil. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence–funded Global Health Research Group on Atrial Fibrillation Management (GHRG-AF) had a Brazilian arm that addressed AF epidemiology and care in Brazil. GHRG-AF analyzed data from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil), a long-term cohort of 15,105 middle-aged adults in Brazil, focused on cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Additionally, the GHRG-AF used data from the Brazilian Study of Stroke Mortality and Morbidity (EMMA) study to understand AF impact on this cohort of 1863 stroke survivors, all admitted to a community hospital. The GHRG-AF also surveyed healthcare practices and the pathways of individuals who live with AF, interviewing health professionals and patients treated in different healthcare units in São Paulo. Abstract Natural disaster management approach establishes stages of prevention, preparation, response, and recovery. With the Internet of Things (IoT), Bigdata, Business Intelligence, and other Information Communication Technologies, data can be gathered to support decisions in stages of the response to natural disaster events. In biological natural disasters, the ICTs can also support efforts to promote social distancing, public health, and economic monitoring to face the threads. São Paulo state used IoT in scenarios to face COVID‐19, such as monitoring vehicular interurban mobility, social distancing, and economic activity. Frameworks, strategies, data views, and use cases are presented to support the decision‐making process to face this biological natural disaster. The data‐driven approach supports several purposes, including the communication of social distancing indices, economic recovery, the progression of contagion, and deaths. It also played a pivotal role in fostering transparency initiatives for society and supporting the crisis committee by facilitating situational analyses, and this approach became standard practice for pandemic response. Studies and innovative visualisation perspectives have produced positive outcomes, guiding the decision‐making process through data analysis. Noteworthy use cases were interurban traffic fence monitoring; mapping of virus spreading; tracking the economic impact concerning recovery plans; and, evaluating the effectiveness of public policies.

Abstract Introduction Conservative treatments such as physical therapies are usually the most indicated for the management of musculoskeletal pain; therefore, a detailed description of interventions enables the reproducibility of interventions in clinical practice and future research. The objective of this study is to evaluate the description of physical interventions for musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescents. Methods We considered randomized controlled trials that included children and adolescents between 4 and 19 years old with acute or chronic/persistent musculoskeletal pain. We included physical therapies related to all types of physical modalities aimed at reducing the intensity of pain or disability in children and adolescents with musculoskeletal pain. The description of interventions was assessed using the Template for Intervention Description and Replication (TIDieR) checklist. We performed electronic searches in the following databases: CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsyINFO and PEDro up to April 2024. The description of physical interventions was presented using frequencies, percentages and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of the TIDieR checklist items described in each study. We also calculated the total TIDieR score for each study and presented these data as mean and standard deviation. Results We included 17 randomized controlled trials. The description measured through the TIDieR checklist scored an average of 11 (5.2) points out of 24. The item of the TIDieR that was most described was item 1 (brief name) and most absent was item 10 (modifications). Conclusion The descriptions of physical interventions for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain in children and adolescents are partially described, indicating the need for strategies to improve the quality of description to enable true clinical reproducibility.

The execution of large deep neural networks (DNN) at mobile edge devices requires considerable consumption of critical resources, such as energy, while imposing demands on hardware capabilities. In approaches based on edge computing the execution of the models is offloaded to a compute-capable device positioned at the edge of 5G infrastructures. The main issue of the latter class of approaches is the need to transport information-rich signals over wireless links with limited and time-varying capacity. The recent split computing paradigm attempts to resolve this impasse by distributing the execution of DNN models across the layers of the systems to reduce the amount of data to be transmitted while imposing minimal computing load on mobile devices. In this context, we propose a novel split computing approach based on slimmable ensemble encoders. The key advantage of our design is the ability to adapt computational load and transmitted data size in real-time with minimal overhead and time. This is in contrast with existing approaches, where the same adaptation requires costly context switching and model loading. Moreover, our model outperforms existing solutions in terms of compression efficacy and execution time, especially in the context of weak mobile devices. We present a comprehensive comparison with the most advanced split computing solutions, as well as an experimental evaluation on GPU-less devices.

The Universe is currently in a phase of accelerated expansion, a fact that was experimentally proven in the late 1990s. Cosmological models involving scalar fields allow the description of this accelerated expansion regime in the Cosmos and present themselves as a promising alternative in the study of the inflationary eras, especially the actual one which is driven by the dark energy. In this work we use the $f(R, T) - \Lambda(\phi)$ gravity to find different cosmological scenarios for our Universe. We also introduce a new path to derive analytic cosmological models which may have a non-trivial mapping between $f$ and $T$. We show that the analytic cosmological models obtained with this approach are compatible with a good description of the radiation era. In addition, we investigated the inflationary scenario and obtained a good agreement for the scalar spectral index $n_s$. 16. Distinct changes in tomato-associated multi-kingdom microbiomes during Meloidogyne incognita parasitism

Abstract Background The interplay between root-knot nematode (RKN) parasitism and the complex web of host-associated microbiota has been recognized as pivotal for effective management of the pest. However, studies assessing this relationship have focussed on the bacterial and fungal communities, neglecting the unicellular eukaryotic members. Here, we employed amplicon sequencing analysis of the bacterial 16S rRNA, fungal ITS and eukaryotic 18S rRNA genes, and comprehensively examined how the microbiome composition, diversity and networking developed with time in the rhizospheres and roots of RKN-inoculated and non-inoculated tomato plants. Results As expected, infection with the RKN Meloidogyne incognita decreased plant growth. At individual timepoints, we found distinct bacterial, fungal and eukaryote community structures in the RKN-inoculated and non-inoculated rhizospheres and roots, and RKN inoculation affected several taxa in the root-associated microbiome differentially. Correlation analysis revealed several bacterial and fungal and few protist taxa that correlated negatively or positively with M. incognita. Moreover, network analysis using bacterial, fungal and eukaryotic data revealed more dynamic networks with higher robustness to disturbances in the RKN-inoculated than in the non-inoculated rhizospheres/roots. Hub taxa displayed a noticeable successional pattern that coincided with different phases of M. incognita parasitism. We found that fungal hubs had strong negative correlations with bacteria and eukaryotes, while positive correlations characterized hub members within individual kingdoms. Conclusion Our results reveal dynamic tomato-associated microbiomes that develop along different trajectories in plants suffering M. incognita infestation and non-infested plants. Overall, the results identify stronger associations between RKN and bacterial and fungal taxa than between eukaryotic taxa and RKN, suggesting that fungal and bacterial communities could play a larger role in the regulation of RKN. The study identifies several putative RKN-antagonistic bacterial and fungal taxa and confirms the antagonistic potential previously identified in other taxa.

Abstract Background Aging represents a significant risk factor for the occurrence of cerebral small vessel disease, associated with white matter (WM) lesions, and to age-related cognitive alterations, though the precise mechanisms remain largely unknown. This study aimed to investigate the impact of polygenic risk scores (PRS) for WM integrity, together with age-related DNA methylation, and gene expression alterations, on cognitive aging in a cross-sectional healthy aging cohort. The PRSs were calculated using genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) markers of WM integrity, including WM hyperintensities, fractional anisotropy (FA), and mean diffusivity (MD). These scores were utilized to predict age-related cognitive changes and evaluate their correlation with structural brain changes, which distinguish individuals with higher and lower cognitive scores. To reduce the dimensionality of the data and identify age-related DNA methylation and transcriptomic alterations, Sparse Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (sPLS-DA) was used. Subsequently, a canonical correlation algorithm was used to integrate the three types of omics data (PRS, DNA methylation, and gene expression data) and identify an individual “omics” signature that distinguishes subjects with varying cognitive profiles. Results We found a positive association between MD-PRS and long-term memory, as well as a correlation between MD-PRS and structural brain changes, effectively discriminating between individuals with lower and higher memory scores. Furthermore, we observed an enrichment of polygenic signals in genes related to both vascular and non-vascular factors. Age-related alterations in DNA methylation and gene expression indicated dysregulation of critical molecular features and signaling pathways involved in aging and lifespan regulation. The integration of multi-omics data underscored the involvement of synaptic dysfunction, axonal degeneration, microtubule organization, and glycosylation in the process of cognitive aging. Conclusions These findings provide valuable insights into the biological mechanisms underlying the association between WM coherence and cognitive aging. Additionally, they highlight how age-associated DNA methylation and gene expression changes contribute to cognitive aging.

Background and aim: Tradescantia spathacea (T. spathacea) is a traditional medicinal plant from Central America and its tea, obtained by infusion, has been recognized as a functional food. The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of dry tea containing biocompounds from T. spathacea tea on motor and emotional behavior, as well as tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression in 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-lesioned rats. Experimental procedure: Bioactives were identified by Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) and an in vivo study in male Wistar rats was run as proof of concept of neuroprotective effects of DTTS. Results and conclusion: We found 15 biocompounds that had not been previously reported in T. spathacea: the UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS allowed identification five phenolic acids, one coumarin, two flavonoids, one iridoid, one phenylpropanoid glycoside, and six fatty acid derivatives. The dry tea of T. spathacea (DTTS) presented significant antioxidant activity and high contents of phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Doses of 10, 30, and 100 mg/kg of DTTS were protective against dopaminergic neurodegeneration and exhibited modulatory action on the astrocyte-mediated neuroinflammatory response. Behavioral tests showed that 30 mg/kg of DTTS counteracted motor impairment, while 100 mg/kg produced an anxiolytic effect. The DTTS could be, therefore, a promising strategy for the management of Parkinson's disease.

Material y métodos: Estudio de cohortes retrospectivo de pacientes con EI ingresados en un hospital de tercer nivel en el periodo entre 2003 y 2020. Resultados: Se han revisado 222 pacientes con EI (67% varones, edad 66,4 ± 14,2 años). El 21,2% presentaron complicaciones neurológicas durante el ingreso, siendo el ictus isquémico (74,5%) y la hemorragia cerebral (23,4%), las más frecuentes. No se encontraron diferencias entre el tiempo medio desde el ingreso hasta el diagnóstico en el grupo de pacientes que debutó con focalidad, en comparación con el resto de pacientes (4,4 vs. 4,5; p = 0,76). Conclusiones: Un 21,2% de los pacientes con EI presentaron complicaciones neurológicas durante el ingreso, siendo el ictus isquémico la más frecuente. La clínica neurológica como debut de la EI no conllevó un retraso diagnóstico. 21. Saps1–3 Antigens in Candida albicans: Differential Modulation Following Exposure to Soluble Proteins, Mammalian Cells, and Infection in Mice

The secreted aspartic peptidases (Saps) of Candida albicans play crucial roles in various steps of fungal–host interactions. Using a flow cytometry approach, this study investigated the expression of Saps1–3 antigens after (i) incubation with soluble proteins, (ii) interaction with mammalian cells, and (iii) infection in immunosuppressed BALB/c mice. Supplementation strategies involving increasing concentrations of bovine serum albumin (BSA) added to yeast carbon base (YCB) medium as the sole nitrogenous source revealed a positive and significant correlation between BSA concentration and both the growth rate and the percentage of fluorescent cells (%FC) labeled with anti-Saps1–3 antibodies. Supplementing the YCB medium with various soluble proteins significantly modulated the expression of Saps1–3 antigens in C. albicans. Specifically, immunoglobulin G, gelatin, and total bovine/human sera significantly reduced the %FC, while laminin, human serum albumin, fibrinogen, hemoglobin, and mucin considerably increased the %FC compared to BSA. Furthermore, co-cultivating C. albicans yeasts with either live epithelial or macrophage cells induced the expression of Saps1–3 antigens in 78% (mean fluorescence intensity [MFI] = 152.1) and 82.7% (MFI = 178.2) of the yeast cells, respectively, compared to BSA, which resulted in 29.3% fluorescent cells (MFI = 50.9). Lastly, the yeasts recovered from the kidneys of infected immunosuppressed mice demonstrated a 4.8-fold increase in the production of Saps1–3 antigens (MFI = 246.6) compared to BSA, with 95.5% of yeasts labeled with anti-Saps1–3 antibodies. Altogether, these results demonstrated the positive modulation of Saps’ expression in C. albicans by various key host proteinaceous components, as well as by in vitro and in vivo host challenges.

The Maricá Coastal Plain, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is formed by a sandy barrier system, up to 120,000 BP, covered by Atlantic Forest coastal vegetation. Its central area is designated as the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of Maricá. Here, we develop a digital poster (interpretation board) to highlight the geological importance of the site. Such geiointerpretation aims to provide opportunities to experience landscapes indirectly through the use of secondary sources of spatial information. The digital poster is a tool to be used by the site management site to assist public awareness of environmental issues through geographical and geological interpretation. The starting point of this project was a drone survey to acquire aerial photographs of APA Maricá to generate high-resolution 3D images through image processing at low cost. To represent the geomorphological characteristics of the APA, an orthomosaic and digital elevation model were produced, onto which the vectorized geomorphological map was projected. Also, to represent the Maricá plain through time, sea level maps were produced, using satellite images, maps and graphs of sea level oscillations. We gathered this information together to produce a digital resource, with geomorphological information to connect the drone aerial images, maps, and texts, connected with embedded links and animations to show the geomorphology in association with plants and key human features such as roads and habitations of the municipality of Maricá.

24. Incidence of suicidal ideation in a cohort of civil servants during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil: insights from the ELSA-Brasil Study

Abstract Objective: This study investigated the incidence of suicidal ideation and its associated risk factors in the state of São Paulo in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (Estudo Longitudinal de Saúde do Adulto [ELSA-Brasil]) cohort during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Methods: In a pre-pandemic ELSA-Brasil onsite assessment in 2016-2018 (wave 3) and a pandemic online assessment in May-July 2020 (wave COVID), we assessed suicidal ideation using the Clinical Interview Schedule-Revised (CIS-R). Single and multi predictor logistic regressions were performed using sociodemographic characteristics, household financial impact during the pandemic, presence of previous chronic diseases, alcohol abuse, adverse childhood experiences (ACE), living alone, and previous common mental disorders (CMD) as predictors. Incidence of suicidal ideation was used as outcome. Results: Out of 4,191 participants in wave 3, 2,117 (50.5%) also answered the COVID wave. There was a threefold increase in suicide ideation, from 34 (1.8%) to 104 (5.6%) participants. In multiple predictor models, we found that previous CMD (odds ratio [OR] 7.17; 95% confidence interval [95%CI] 4.43 - 11.58) and ACE (OR 1.72; 95%CI 1.09 - 2.72) increased the odds of incident suicidal ideation. The sociodemographic predictors female sex, younger age, and low income were significant risk factors in the single predictor models only. Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of monitoring and supporting individuals who suffered ACE and have a history of mental health disorders. This is especially critical in times of heightened societal stress, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objetivos: A LLA early T é um subtipo da leucemia linfoblástica aguda T introduzida recentemente na classificação da WHO, que se caracteriza por prognóstico adverso, apresentando marcadores da linhagem linfoide e mieloide. Ela está associada a menor taxa de resposta à indução, menor sobrevida global e maiores índices de recaída. O objetivo do trabalho é relatar um caso LLA T early com boa resposta à quimioterapia (protocolo HyperCVAD), com aumento de dose à medida que a paciente vinha melhorando sua performance status (PS). Material e método: Relato de caso. Resultados: SEMS, feminina, 47 anos, apresentou em novembro de 2023 queda do estado geral, adinamia e petéquias em membros inferiores. Procurou a Unidade de Pronto Atendimento, onde foi evidenciado hemograma com bicitopenia + leucocitose (Hemoglobina 6,3 mg/dL, plaquetas 22.000 e leucócitos de 88.000. A paciente foi transferida para o nosso hospital (HUAP) onde foi observado também caquexia, hepatoesplenomegalia e presença de 71% de blastos no sangue periférico e 80% na medula óssea, que a imunofenotipagem evidenciou marcadores positivos de células blásticas mieloides e linfoides, sendo os marcadores positivos: CD3, CD5, CD7, CD13, CD33, CD34, CD38, CD45, CD71, CD99, CD123 em uma amostra total de 84.900 células/mm3. O cariótipo estudado evidenciou 20 metáfases, sem anormalidades e com líquor normal. Desta forma, iniciou protocolo mini-Hypercvad devido à baixa PS, evoluindo com intensa toxicidade pós ciclo IA e múltiplas complicações como: aspergilose invasiva, tetraparesia do corticoide e enterorragia intensa, para as quais foram manejadas durante a internação. A paciente apresentou significativa melhora do estado geral nos ciclos subsequentes e por isto o regime Hyper CVAD foi modificado para a dose padrão a partir do ciclo IIA. Evoluiu com boa resposta e DRM negativa após o Ciclo IIIB, no momento aguardando a realização do transplante de medula óssea alogênico. Discussão: Apenas 15% de todos os casos da LLA T cursam com o subtipo early T, o qual apresenta células mais imaturas, contendo marcadores mieloides fracos em sua diferenciação. Diante do caso, podemos ver uma excelente resposta da paciente ao protocolo HyperCVAD, conforme orientado pelo NCCN, mesmo com redução de dose nos 2 primeiros ciclos. Por possuir marcadores mieloides e linfoides, novas combinações terapêuticas envolvendo agentes como inibidores de BCL2 e anticorpos monoclonais podem ser promissores no tratamento da LLA early T, porém por ainda estarem indisponíveis no SUS, a opção foi de quimioterapia de alta dose padrão. Conclusão: Em geral no contexto de doenças agressivas utilizamos protocolos baseados em quimioterapia intensa, mas é importante respeitar as condições do paciente, para que os eventos adversos não sejam fatais.

Abstract Cereus jamacaru DC. occurs in the central-eastern region of Brazil and is among the best-known cacti in the country. Its phytochemical properties and fruits hold great significance to the local communities. We examined published ethnobotanical studies regarding C. jamacaru (mandacaru) undertaken between 2000 to 2024, to better understand its traditional uses and relationships with human communities in Brazil. The literature review was carried out by consulting the databases Google Scholar (166 articles), Scopus (1 article) and Web of Science (2 articles), and followed the PRISMA 2020 protocol. A total of 169 articles were identified, of which 45 were deemed relevant. The most frequent uses of C. jamacaru include medicinal (cited in 32 articles), human consumption as a non-conventional food (22), and forage (18). C. jamacaru is often cited to treat health conditions such as kidney problems, flu and inflammations, but it’s also used for construction and crafts. Our results highlight the diverse and vital uses of C. jamacaru for human communities. Furthermore, we demonstrate the pattern of knowledge production regarding the ethnobotany of this species and the challenges for its conservation and the preservation of associated traditional knowledge.

27. Adding-value to Ganoderma lingzhi by producing enzymes and antioxidant compounds under submerged fermentation using different culture media

Abstract Ganoderma lingzhi is widely reported for its medicinal properties, presenting several bioactive substances with potential pharmaceutical and industrial application. This study aimed to evaluate the production of mycelial biomass, extracellular enzymes and antioxidant compounds by G. lingzhi under submerged fermentation. G. lingzhi was cultured in Polysaccharide (POL) and Melin-Norkrans (MNM) media for 7 days. The cellulases, xylanases, pectinases, laccases, and proteases activities were quantified in the culture broth, while the antioxidant potential was evaluated for the mycelial biomass. G. lingzhi showed higher biomass production in MNM. However, it exhibited similar microstructural characteristics in both culture media. In the POL there was greater activity of CMCase (0.229 U/mL), xylanase (0.780 U/mL), pectinase (0.447 U/mL) and proteases (16.13 U/mL). FPase did not differ (0.01 U/mL), and laccase was detected only in MNM (0.122 U/mL). The biomass water extract from MNM showed high levels of phenolic compounds (951.97 mg AGE/100 g). DPPH• inhibition (90.55%) and reducing power (0.456) were higher in MNM medium, while ABTS•+ inhibition (99.95%) and chelating ability (54.86%) were higher in POL. Thus, the MNM medium was more favorable to the production of mycelial biomass and phenolic compounds, while the POL medium favored the synthesis and excretion of hydrolytic enzymes.

Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium responsible for resistance to multiple drugs and the efflux system is widely studied among the resistance mechanisms developed by this species. The present study evaluates the inhibition of the MepA efflux pump by thiadiazine-derived compounds. For this purpose, thiadiazine-derived compounds (IJ-14 to IJ-20) were tested against S. aureus K2068 strains. Microdilution tests were initially conducted to assess the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the compounds and their efflux pump inhibition activity. In addition, fluorimetry tests were performed using BrEt emission and tests were conducted to inhibit the expression of the mepA gene. This involved comparing the bacterial gene expression with the antibiotic alone to the gene expression after combining compounds (IJ-17 and IJ-20) with the antibiotic. Furthermore, membrane permeability assessment tests and in silico molecular docking tests were performed. It was observed that the IJ17 and IJ20 compounds exhibited direct activity against the tested strain. The IJ17 compound produced significant results in the gene inhibition tests, which was also evidenced through the membrane permeability alteration test. These findings suggest that thiadiazine-derived compounds have promising effects against one of the main resistance mechanisms, with the IJ17 compound presenting observable mechanisms of action.

The role of the iron–sulfur [Fe-S] cluster transcriptional regulator IscR in maintaining [Fe-S] homeostasis in bacteria is still poorly characterized in many groups. Caulobacter crescentus and other Alphaproteobacteria have a single operon encoding [Fe-S] cluster biosynthesis enzymes. We showed that the expression of this operon increases in iron starvation, but not in oxidative stress, and is controlled mainly by IscR. Transcriptome analysis comparing an iscR null mutant strain with the wild-type (wt) strain identified 94 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), with 47 upregulated and 47 downregulated genes in the ΔiscR mutant. We determined the IscR binding sites in conditions of sufficient or scarce iron by Chromatin Immunoprecipitation followed by DNA sequencing (ChIP-seq), identifying two distinct putative DNA binding motifs. The estimated IscR regulon comprises 302 genes, and direct binding to several regulatory regions was shown by Electrophoresis Mobility Shift Assay (EMSA). The results showed that the IscR and Fur regulons partially overlap and that IscR represses the expression of the respiration regulator FixK, fine-tuning gene regulation in response to iron and redox balance.

Abstract The increasing global importance of pink peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolia, Anacardiaceae) as a high-value commercial crop and its potential for expansion in production demand appropriate management due to uncertainties regarding its sexual system. This study focused on evaluating the morphology of sterile and fertile floral whorls, as well as analyzing the sexual system of pink pepper in two populations in northeastern Brazil. The results revealed no significant differences in the morphological characteristics of the flowers between the studied areas, suggesting that the species possesses notable adaptability to environmental conditions. However, a significant difference in the proportion of staminate individuals was observed in both areas, representing over 88% and 72%, respectively. We investigate theoretical and observational aspects of a warm inflation scenario driven by the $\beta$-exponential potential, which generalizes the well-known power law inflation. In such a scenario, the decay of the inflaton field into radiation happens during the inflationary phase. In our study, we consider a dissipation coefficient ($\Gamma$) with cubic dependence on the temperature ($T$) and investigate the consequences in the inflationary dynamics, focusing on the impact on the spectral index $n_s$, its running $n_{run}$ and tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$. We find it possible to realize inflation in agreement with current cosmic microwave background data in weak and strong dissipation regimes. We also investigate theoretical aspects of the model in light of the swampland conjectures, as warm inflation in the strong dissipation regime has been known as a way to satisfy the three conditions currently discussed in the literature. - Abstract
The present paper analyzes and discusses specific methodological aspects instrumental in promoting the teaching of Green Chemistry (GC); it examines proposals and teaching experience reports from 284 papers published in the "Journal of Chemical Education" (JChemEd), until 2019. Using Discursive Textual Analysis and drawing upon previous studies, 143 papers were selected for containing nontraditional teaching activities for the incorporation of GC into chemistry teaching, which were grouped into seven (emerging) categories, focusing on: learning subjects, curriculum, integrative contents, context, other education environments, use of instructional materials, and comparison between GC and Traditional Chemistry. Most proposals focus on the learning subject, followed by curriculum discussions and integrative contents. Several papers brought aspects related to the systemic vision for the interconnection of GC with sustainability/sustainable development, revealing a new methodological challenge by proposing integrative content as teaching strategies. Despite their good intentions, most teaching experiences and intervention proposals still remain attached to occasional and poorly evaluated events.

Resveratrol is a natural polyphenol with important anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties for treating cardiometabolic disorders. Therefore, the present meta-analysis aimed to review and investigate the oral resveratrol supplementation effects on metabolic syndrome (MetS) components. The bibliographic search was carried out in 2023 in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. Studies that investigated the oral resveratrol effects on the MetS parameters were included. Statistical analyses were performed using RevMan Software V.5.3. The main findings showed that resveratrol significantly decreased systolic and diastolic blood pressure while having no significant effects on waist circumference and high-density lipoprotein levels. In addition, glucose level was significantly decreased in the subgroup of studies reporting change from baseline means, although the overall effect was not statistically significant (p = 0.81), while triglyceride levels were increased after the treatment period. In conclusion, the present meta-analysis evidenced the potential therapeutic effect of resveratrol on improving some MetS features, especially regarding systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and glucose reduction; however, the results are still borderline and sometimes controversial, which might be justified by the methodological and statistical heterogeneity of the studies, with the latter varying from 17 to 57%.

Agricultural expansion and intensification worldwide has caused a reduction in ecological infrastructures for insects, herbaceous plants, and vertebrate insectivores, among other organisms. Agriculture is recognized as one of the key influences in biodiversity decline, and initiatives such as the European Green Deal highlight the need to reduce ecosystem degradation. Among fruit crops, grapes are considered one of the most intensive agricultural systems with the greatest economic relevance. This study presents a compilation of management practices to enhance biodiversity performance, which applies generally to the agricultural sector and, in particular, to viticulture, concerning the diversity of plants, semi-natural habitats, soil management, and the chemical control strategies and pesticides used in agricultural cultivation. Through a critical review, this study identifies a set of recommendations for biodiversity performance and their corresponding effects, contributing to the dissemination of management options to boost biodiversity performance. The results highlight opportunities for future investigations in determining the needed conditions to ensure both biodiversity enhancement and productive gains, and understanding the long-term effects of innovative biodiversity-friendly approaches.

47. Beyond boundaries: governance considerations for climate-driven habitat shifts of highly migratory marine species across jurisdictions

Abstract The mobile nature of migratory marine animals across jurisdictional boundaries can challenge the management of biodiversity, particularly under global environmental change. While projections of climate-driven habitat change can reveal whether marine species are predicted to gain or lose habitat in the future, geopolitical boundaries and differing governance regimes may influence animals’ abilities to thrive in new areas. Broad geographic movements and diverse governance approaches elicit the need for strong international collaboration to holistically manage and conserve these shared migratory species. In this study, we use data from the Tagging of Pacific Predators program to demonstrate the feasibility of using climate-driven habitat projections to assess species’ jurisdictional redistribution. Focusing on four species (shortfin mako shark, California sea lion, northern elephant seal, and sooty shearwater), we calculate the projected change in core habitat across jurisdictional boundaries throughout the century and highlight associated management implications. Using climate-driven habitat projections from the period of 2001 to 2010, and an RCP 8.5 climate scenario, we found that all four species are projected to face up to a 2.5-10% change in core habitat across jurisdictions in the Northeast Pacific, with the greatest gains of core habitat redistribution within the United States exclusive economic zone and in areas beyond national jurisdiction. Overall, our study demonstrates how efforts to understand the impacts of climate change on species’ habitat use should be expanded to consider how resulting shifts may provoke new management challenges in a legally bounded, yet physically borderless ocean. We discuss governance implications for transboundary habitat redistribution as highly migratory marine species potentially shift across legal jurisdictions, including new ocean areas beyond national judications, considerations which are applicable within and beyond this Pacific case study. Our study also highlights data needs and management strategies to inform high-level conservation strategies, as well as recommendations for using updated tagging data and climate models to build upon this approach in future work.

48. Complexed amino acid minerals vs. bis-glycinate chelated minerals: Impact on the performance of old laying hens

The present study was to evaluate the effect of trace minerals (Zn, Mn, and Cu) from complexed amino acid minerals (ZMCAA) and bis-glycinate chelated minerals (ZMCGly) in laying hen diets on performance, internal and external egg quality, yolk mineral deposition, intestinal morphometry, and bone characteristics. From 78 to 98 weeks of age, 400 White LSL-Lite strain laying hens were distributed in a randomized design with 4 treatments with 10 replicates per treatment. Treatments were distributed in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement using either Zn, Mn, and Cu of ZMCAA or ZMCGly source at 2 levels: low (20, 20, and 3.5 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, and Cu, respectively) or high (40, 40, and 7 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, and Cu, respectively). The analysis of variance was performed, and in cases where differences were observed, the means were compared using Tukey's test (P < 0.05). The source and level of trace mineral supplementation had a significant impact on the performance of laying hens. Hens fed ZMCAA had higher egg production (P = 0.01), egg weight (P = 0.02), egg mass (P = 0.01), and lower feed conversion ratio (P = 0.05) compared to those fed ZMCGly. The ZMCAA supplementation showed higher albumen height (P = 0.01), albumen weight (P = 0.01), and eggshell thickness (P < 0.01). The deposition of Zn (P < 0.01), Mn (P < 0.01), and Cu (P < 0.01) in the egg yolk was greater for hens received ZMCAA. Tibia weight (P = 0.04) and bone densitometry (P < 0.01) in the tibia were higher with ZMCAA supplementation. In the small intestine, ZMCAA resulted in longer villi (P = 0.02) and shorter crypt depth (P = 0.01) in the duodenum. Jejunum and ileum measurements were influenced by the level and source of trace minerals (P < 0.05). Laying hens fed ZMCAA exhibited superior performance, egg quality, deposition of trace minerals in the egg yolk, and bone density compared to hens fed ZMCGly. In this study, older laying hens supplemented with ZMCAA at lower levels demonstrated adequate levels of supplementation.

Objective: To investigate the association of nighttime awakenings at 12 months with the duration and efficiency of nighttime sleep at 6 years of age. Methods: Data from two population-based prospective studies (The Pelotas 2004 and The Pelotas 2015 Birth Cohorts) were used. Information on nighttime awakenings was provided by mothers during the 12-month follow-up interview. Infants who awakened >3 times after sleep onset at 12 months were considered frequent wakeners. Sleep duration and sleep efficiency were obtained by actigraphy at the 6-year follow-up. Children wore the device at the wrist of the non-dominant arm continuously for 3–7 days, including at least one weekend day. Unadjusted and adjusted beta coefficients were obtained by linear regression for each cohort separately. Results: 2500 children from the 2004 and 2793 from the 2015 cohort had full information on nighttime awakenings at 12 months and actigraphy at 6 years and were analyzed. Prevalence of frequent wakeners was 6.3 % and 5.9 % in the 2004 and 2015 cohort, respectively. Mean bedtime and wake-up time at 6 years were, respectively, 23:23 and 08:41 h in the 2004 cohort, and 00:10 and 09:00 h int the 2015 cohort. Nighttime sleep lasted on average 7.54 and 7.24 h respectively in the 2004 and the 2015 cohort, and the sleep efficiency was 81.1 and 82.5 % respectively. In adjusted analyses, no associations were found between awakening at 12 months and sleep duration or sleep efficiency at 6 years of age. Conclusion: In both cohorts sleep duration and efficiency were below the recommendation for school-age children (respectively 9–11 h and 85 %). There was no relationship between the number of nighttime awakenings at 12 months and sleep duration or efficiency at 6 years.
