1. Neural Fields in Robotics: A Survey

Abstract: Neural Fields have emerged as a transformative approach for 3D scene representation in computer vision and robotics, enabling accurate inference of geometry, 3D semantics, and dynamics from posed 2D data. Leveraging differentiable rendering, Neural Fields encompass both continuous implicit and explicit neural representations enabling high-fidelity 3D reconstruction, integration of multi-modal sensor data, and generation of novel viewpoints. This survey explores their applications in robotics, emphasizing their potential to enhance perception, planning, and control. Their compactness, memory efficiency, and differentiability, along with seamless integration with foundation and generative models, make them ideal for real-time applications, improving robot adaptability and decision-making. This paper provides a thorough review of Neural Fields in robotics, categorizing applications across various domains and evaluating their strengths and limitations, based on over 200 papers. First, we present four key Neural Fields frameworks: Occupancy Networks, Signed Distance Fields, Neural Radiance Fields, and Gaussian Splatting. Second, we detail Neural Fields' applications in five major robotics domains: pose estimation, manipulation, navigation, physics, and autonomous driving, highlighting key works and discussing takeaways and open challenges. Abstract: Using (2712.4 $\pm$ 14.3)$\times 10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, a partial wave analysis of the decay $\psi(3686) \to \phi \eta \eta' $ is performed with the covariant tensor approach. An axial-vector state with a mass near 2.3 $\rm GeV/c^2$ is observed for the first time. Its mass and width are measured to be 2316 $\pm 9_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 30_{\mathrm{syst}}\,\rm MeV/c^2$ and 89 $\pm 15_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 26_{\mathrm{syst}}\,\rm MeV$, respectively. The product branching fractions of $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to X(2300) \eta') \mathcal{B}(X(2300)\to \phi \eta)$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to X(2300) \eta)\mathcal{B}(X(2300)\to \phi \eta')$ are determined to be (4.8 $\pm 1.3_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.7_{\mathrm{syst}})\times 10^{-6}$ and (2.2 $\pm 0.7_{\mathrm{stat}} \pm 0.7_{\mathrm{syst}})\times 10^{-6}$, respectively. The branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686) \to \phi \eta \eta')$ is measured for the first time to be (3.14$\pm0.17_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm0.24_{\mathrm{syst}})\times10^{-5}$. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

3. STIRAP-Inspired Robust Gates for a Superconducting Dual-Rail Qubit

Abstract: STImulated Raman Adiabatic Passage (STIRAP) is a powerful technique for robust state transfer capabilities in quantum systems. This method, however encounters challenges for its implementation as a gate in qubit-subspace due to its sensitivity to initial states. By incorporating single-photon detuning into the protocol, the sensitivity to the initial state can effectively be mitigated, enabling STIRAP to operate as a gate. In this study, we experimentally demonstrate the implementation of robust $\pi$ and $\pi$/2 rotations in a dual-rail qubit formed by two strongly coupled fixed-frequency transmon qubits. We achieve state preparation fidelity in excess of 0.98 using such rotations. Our analysis reveals these gates exhibit significant resilience to errors. Furthermore, our numerical calculations confirm that these gates can achieve fidelity levels in excess of 0.999. This work suggest a way for realizing quantum gates which are robust against minor drifts in pulse or system parameters.

5. New flexible versions of extended generalized Pareto model for count data

Abstract: Accurate modeling is essential in integer-valued real phenomena, including the distribution of entire data, zero-inflated (ZI) data, and discrete exceedances. The Poisson and Negative Binomial distributions, along with their ZI variants, are considered suitable for modeling the entire data distribution, but they fail to capture the heavy tail behavior effectively alongside the bulk of the distribution. In contrast, the discrete generalized Pareto distribution (DGPD) is preferred for high threshold exceedances, but it becomes less effective for low threshold exceedances. However, in some applications, the selection of a suitable high threshold is challenging, and the asymptotic conditions required for using DGPD are not always met. To address these limitations, extended versions of DGPD are proposed. These extensions are designed to model one of three scenarios: first, the entire distribution of the data, including both bulk and tail and bypassing the threshold selection step; second, the entire distribution along with ZI; and third, the tail of the distribution for low threshold exceedances. 6. Language-Embedded Gaussian Splats (LEGS): Incrementally Building Room-Scale Representations with a Mobile Robot

Abstract: Building semantic 3D maps is valuable for searching for objects of interest in offices, warehouses, stores, and homes. We present a mapping system that incrementally builds a Language-Embedded Gaussian Splat (LEGS): a detailed 3D scene representation that encodes both appearance and semantics in a unified representation. LEGS is trained online as a robot traverses its environment to enable localization of open-vocabulary object queries. We evaluate LEGS on 4 room-scale scenes where we query for objects in the scene to assess how LEGS can capture semantic meaning. We compare LEGS to LERF and find that while both systems have comparable object query success rates, LEGS trains over 3.5x faster than LERF. Results suggest that a multi-camera setup and incremental bundle adjustment can boost visual reconstruction quality in constrained robot trajectories, and suggest LEGS can localize open-vocabulary and long-tail object queries with up to 66% accuracy.

7. RoVi-Aug: Robot and Viewpoint Augmentation for Cross-Embodiment Robot Learning

Abstract: Scaling up robot learning requires large and diverse datasets, and how to efficiently reuse collected data and transfer policies to new embodiments remains an open question. Emerging research such as the Open-X Embodiment (OXE) project has shown promise in leveraging skills by combining datasets including different robots. However, imbalances in the distribution of robot types and camera angles in many datasets make policies prone to overfit. To mitigate this issue, we propose RoVi-Aug, which leverages state-of-the-art image-to-image generative models to augment robot data by synthesizing demonstrations with different robots and camera views. Through extensive physical experiments, we show that, by training on robot- and viewpoint-augmented data, RoVi-Aug can zero-shot deploy on an unseen robot with significantly different camera angles. Compared to test-time adaptation algorithms such as Mirage, RoVi-Aug requires no extra processing at test time, does not assume known camera angles, and allows policy fine-tuning. Moreover, by co-training on both the original and augmented robot datasets, RoVi-Aug can learn multi-robot and multi-task policies, enabling more efficient transfer between robots and skills and improving success rates by up to 30%. Abstract: Using $(27.12\pm 0.14)\times10^8$ $\psi(3686)$ decays and data samples of $e^+e^-$ collisions with $\sqrt{s}$ from 4.130 to 4.780~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the electromagnetic Dalitz transition $h_c\to e^+e^-\eta_c$ with a statistical significance of $5.4\sigma$. We measure the ratio of the branching fractions $\frac{\mathcal{B}(h_c\rightarrow e^+e^-\eta_c)}{\mathcal{B}(h_c\rightarrow \gamma \eta_c)}$ separately for the $h_c$ samples produced via $\psi(3686)\to\pi^0h_c$ and $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-h_c$. The average ratio is determined to be $(0.59\pm0.10(\text{stat.})\pm0.04(\text{syst.}))\%$, where the uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic components.

10. ICE-G: Image Conditional Editing of 3D Gaussian Splats

Abstract: Recently many techniques have emerged to create high quality 3D assets and scenes. When it comes to editing of these objects, however, existing approaches are either slow, compromise on quality, or do not provide enough customization. We introduce a novel approach to quickly edit a 3D model from a single reference view. Our technique first segments the edit image, and then matches semantically corresponding regions across chosen segmented dataset views using DINO features. A color or texture change from a particular region of the edit image can then be applied to other views automatically in a semantically sensible manner. These edited views act as an updated dataset to further train and re-style the 3D scene. The end-result is therefore an edited 3D model. Our framework enables a wide variety of editing tasks such as manual local edits, correspondence based style transfer from any example image, and a combination of different styles from multiple example images. We use Gaussian Splats as our primary 3D representation due to their speed and ease of local editing, but our technique works for other methods such as NeRFs as well. We show through multiple examples that our method produces higher quality results while offering fine-grained control of editing. 11. Learning 3D Robotics Perception using Inductive Priors

Abstract: Recent advances in deep learning have led to a data-centric intelligence i.e. artificially intelligent models unlocking the potential to ingest a large amount of data and be really good at performing digital tasks such as text-to-image generation, machine-human conversation, and image recognition. This thesis covers the topic of learning with structured inductive bias and priors to design approaches and algorithms unlocking the potential of principle-centric intelligence. Prior knowledge (priors for short), often available in terms of past experience as well as assumptions of how the world works, helps the autonomous agent generalize better and adapt their behavior based on past experience. In this thesis, I demonstrate the use of prior knowledge in three different robotics perception problems. 1. object-centric 3D reconstruction, 2. vision and language for decision-making, and 3. 3D scene understanding. To solve these challenging problems, I propose various sources of prior knowledge including 1. geometry and appearance priors from synthetic data, 2. modularity and semantic map priors and 3. semantic, structural, and contextual priors. I study these priors for solving robotics 3D perception tasks and propose ways to efficiently encode them in deep learning models. Some priors are used to warm-start the network for transfer learning, others are used as hard constraints to restrict the action space of robotics agents. While classical techniques are brittle and fail to generalize to unseen scenarios and data-centric approaches require a large amount of labeled data, this thesis aims to build intelligent agents which require very-less real-world data or data acquired only from simulation to generalize to highly dynamic and cluttered environments in novel simulations (i.e. sim2sim) or real-world unseen environments (i.e. sim2real) for a holistic scene understanding of the 3D world., Comment: Georgia Tech Ph.D. Thesis, December 2023. 12. Bifunctional Noble Metal-free Ternary Chalcogenide Electrocatalysts for Overall Water Splitting

Abstract: Hydrogen has been identified as a clean, zero carbon, sustainable, and promising energy source for the future, and electrochemical water splitting for hydrogen production is an emission-free, efficient energy conversion technology. A major limitation of this approach is the unavailability of efficient, abundant, inexpensive catalysts, which prompts the need for new catalytic materials. Here, we report the synthesis and electrocatalytic properties of a novel transition metal-based ternary chalcogenide family, LaMS$_3$ (M = Mn, Fe, Co, Ni). Powder X-ray diffraction confirms the phase purity of these materials, while composition analysis using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) confirms the presence of the stoichiometric ratio of elements in these compounds. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) were used to study the chemical states on the surface and in bulk, respectively. These materials exhibit bifunctional catalytic activity towards the two half-reactions of the water-splitting process, with LaNiS$_3$ being the most active material for both hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The LaMS$_3$ compounds show long-term stability with negligible change in the overpotential at a constant current density of 10 mA cm$^{-2}$ over 18 hours of measurements. As compared to the corresponding ternary oxides, the LaMS$_3$ materials exhibit higher activity and significantly lower Tafel slopes. The ability to catalyze both half-reactions of water electrolysis makes these materials promising candidates for bifunctional catalysts and presents a new avenue to search for high-efficiency electrocatalysts for water splitting.

Abstract: Using a sample of $448.1 \times 10^6$ $\psi(2S)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform a study of the decay $J/\psi\rightarrow K^+K^-$ via $\psi(2S)\rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$. The branching fraction of $J/\psi\rightarrow K^+K^-$ is determined to be $\mathcal{B}_{K^+K^-}=(3.072\pm 0.023({\rm stat.})\pm 0.050({\rm syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$, which is consistent with previous measurements but with significantly improved precision., Comment: to be submitted to PRD

Abstract: We present the first search for the leptonic decays $D^{*+}\to e^+\nu_e$ and $D^{*+}\to \mu^+\nu_\mu$ by analyzing a data sample of electron-positron collisions recorded with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.178 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.32~fb$^{-1}$. No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on the branching fractions for $D^{*+}\to e^+\nu_e$ and $D^{*+}\to \mu^+\nu_\mu$ are set to be $1.1 \times 10^{-5}$ and $4.3 \times 10^{-6}$ at 90\% confidence level, respectively., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

15. Pressure-induced phase transition in pyrochlore iridates (Sm$_{1-x}$Bi$_x$)$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$ ($x =$ 0, 0.02, and 0.10): Raman and X-ray diffraction studies

Abstract: The pyrochlore iridates, A$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$, show a wide variety of structural, electronic, and magnetic properties controlled by the interplay of different exchange interactions, which can be tuned by external pressure. In this work, we report pressure-induced phase transitions at ambient temperature using synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction (up to ~ 20 GPa) and Raman-scattering measurements (up to ~ 25 GPa) of the pyrochlore series (Sm$_{1-x}$Bi$_x$)$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$ ($x =$ 0, 0.02, and 0.10). Our Raman and X-ray data suggest an iso-structural transition in Sm$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$ at Pc ~ 11.2 GPa associated with the rearrangement of IrO6 octahedra in the pyrochlore lattice. The transition pressure decreases to ~ 10.2 and 9 GPa for $x =$ 0.02 and 0.10, respectively. For all the samples, the linewidth of three phonons associated with Ir-O-Ir (A1g and Eg) and Ir-O (T$_2$g$_4$) vibrations show anomalous decrease up to Pc, due to decrease in electron-phonon interaction.

17. NeRF-MAE: Masked AutoEncoders for Self-Supervised 3D Representation Learning for Neural Radiance Fields

Abstract: Neural fields excel in computer vision and robotics due to their ability to understand the 3D visual world such as inferring semantics, geometry, and dynamics. Given the capabilities of neural fields in densely representing a 3D scene from 2D images, we ask the question: Can we scale their self-supervised pretraining, specifically using masked autoencoders, to generate effective 3D representations from posed RGB images. Owing to the astounding success of extending transformers to novel data modalities, we employ standard 3D Vision Transformers to suit the unique formulation of NeRFs. We leverage NeRF's volumetric grid as a dense input to the transformer, contrasting it with other 3D representations such as pointclouds where the information density can be uneven, and the representation is irregular. Due to the difficulty of applying masked autoencoders to an implicit representation, such as NeRF, we opt for extracting an explicit representation that canonicalizes scenes across domains by employing the camera trajectory for sampling. Our goal is made possible by masking random patches from NeRF's radiance and density grid and employing a standard 3D Swin Transformer to reconstruct the masked patches. In doing so, the model can learn the semantic and spatial structure of complete scenes. We pretrain this representation at scale on our proposed curated posed-RGB data, totaling over 1.8 million images. Once pretrained, the encoder is used for effective 3D transfer learning. Our novel self-supervised pretraining for NeRFs, NeRF-MAE, scales remarkably well and improves performance on various challenging 3D tasks. Utilizing unlabeled posed 2D data for pretraining, NeRF-MAE significantly outperforms self-supervised 3D pretraining and NeRF scene understanding baselines on Front3D and ScanNet datasets with an absolute performance improvement of over 20% AP50 and 8% AP25 for 3D object detection., Comment: Accepted to ECCV 2024. Abstract: This paper addresses the challenging problem of category-level pose estimation. Current state-of-the-art methods for this task face challenges when dealing with symmetric objects and when attempting to generalize to new environments solely through synthetic data training. In this work, we address these challenges by proposing a probabilistic model that relies on diffusion to estimate dense canonical maps crucial for recovering partial object shapes as well as establishing correspondences essential for pose estimation. Furthermore, we introduce critical components to enhance performance by leveraging the strength of the diffusion models with multi-modal input representations. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method by testing it on a range of real datasets. Despite being trained solely on our generated synthetic data, our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance and unprecedented generalization qualities, outperforming baselines, even those specifically trained on the target domain., Comment: 8 pages. 9 figures. Abstract: Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.80 to 4.95 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb$^{-1}$, a measurement of Born cross sections for the $e^+e^-\to D^{0}\bar{D}^{0}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$ processes is presented with unprecedented precision. Many clear peaks in the line shape of $e^+e^-\to D^{0}\bar{D}^{0}$ and $D^{+}D^{-}$ around the mass range of $G(3900)$, $\psi(4040)$, $\psi(4160)$, $Y(4260)$, and $\psi(4415)$, etc., are foreseen. Abstract: With a sample of $(10087\pm44)\times10^{6}$ $J/\psi$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, we analyze the decays $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-l^+l^-(l=e,$ $\mu)$ via the process $J/\psi\rightarrow\gamma\eta'$. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-)=(2.45\pm0.02(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.})) \times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-)=(2.16\pm0.12(\rm{stat.})\pm0.06(\rm{syst.}))\times10^{-5}$, and the ratio is $\frac{\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}e^{+}e^{-})}{\mathcal{B}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\mu^{+}\mu^{-})} = 113.4\pm0.9(\rm{stat.})\pm3.7(\rm{syst.})$. In addition, by combining the $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-$ and $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-$ decays, the slope parameter of the electromagnetic transition form factor is measured to be $b_{\eta'}=1.30\pm0.19\ (\mathrm{GeV}/c^{2})^{-2}$, which is consistent with previous measurements from BESIII and theoretical predictions from the VMD model. The asymmetry in the angle between the $\pi^+\pi^-$ and $l^+l^-$ decay planes, which has the potential to reveal the $CP$-violation originating from an unconventional electric dipole transition, is also investigated. The asymmetry parameters are determined to be $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-e^+e^-)=(-0.21\pm0.73(\rm{stat.})\pm0.01(\rm{syst.}))\%$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP}(\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\mu^+\mu^-)=(0.62\pm4.71(\rm{stat.})\pm0.08(\rm{syst.}))\%$, implying that no evidence of $CP$-violation is observed at the present statistics. Finally, an axion-like particle is searched for via the decay $\eta'\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-a, a\rightarrow e^+e^-$, and upper limits of the branching fractions are presented for the mass assumptions of the axion-like particle in the range of $0-500\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}$.

Abstract: In modern cell-less wireless networks, mobility management is undergoing a significant transformation, transitioning from single-link handover management to a more adaptable multi-connectivity cluster reconfiguration approach, including often conflicting objectives like energy-efficient power allocation and satisfying varying reliability requirements. In this work, we address the challenge of dynamic clustering and power allocation for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication in wireless interference networks. Our objective encompasses meeting varying reliability demands, minimizing power consumption, and reducing the frequency of cluster reconfiguration. Abstract: We present measurements of the Born cross sections for the processes $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c1}$ and $\omega\chi_{c2}$ at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ from 4.308 to 4.951 GeV. The measurements are performed with data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.0 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Assuming the $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c2}$ signals come from a single resonance, the mass and width are determined to be $M=(4413.6\pm9.0\pm0.8)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $\Gamma=(110.5\pm15.0\pm2.9)$ MeV, respectively, which is consistent with the parameters of the well-established resonance $\psi(4415)$. In addition, we also use one single resonance to describe the $e^+e^-\rightarrow\omega\chi_{c1}$ lineshape, and determine the mass and width to be $M=(4544.2\pm18.7\pm1.7)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $\Gamma=(116.1\pm33.5\pm1.7)$ MeV, respectively. Abstract: With the data samples taken at center-of-mass energies from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a partial wave analysis on the $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ process is performed. The Born cross sections for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ and its intermediate processes $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\rho\pi$ and $\rho(1450)\pi$ are measured as functions of $\sqrt{s}$. The results for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{0}$ are consistent with previous results measured with the initial state radiation method within one standard deviation, and improve the uncertainty by a factor of ten. By fitting the line shapes of the Born cross sections for the $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow\rho\pi$ and $\rho(1450)\pi$, a structure with mass $M = 2119\pm11\pm15\ {\rm MeV}/c^2$ and width $\Gamma=69\pm30\pm5 {\rm MeV}$ is observed with a significance of $5.9\sigma$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. This structure can be intepreteted as an excited $\omega$ state.
