Polycrystalline phases of variable composition KxSr12 – 2xR4 + x(PO4)12 (R = Nd, Eu, and Gd; 0 ≤ x ≤ 4) with the structure of the mineral eulytite (space group I $$\overline 4 $$ 3d) have been synthesized by evaporation of the salt solution followed by heat treatment. Their structures have been studied by X-ray powder diffraction and IR spectroscopy, and electron probe studies have been carried out. The structure of KSr10Eu5(PO4)12 has been refined; it has been found that the neutral framework is formed by edge-linked metal-oxygen octahedra (K,Sr,Eu)O6 with PO4 tetrahedra located between them and attached to the octahedra by oxygen vertices. At temperature change, phosphates expand uniformly in all directions: αа = αb = αc = (9−12) × 10−6 K−1 without undergoing polymorphic transitions.

Bladder exstrophy is a complex of urogenital malformations, varying in severity from epispadias to classical bladder exstrophy. The main aim of correcting bladder exstrophy in childhood is to achieve urine continence with the prevention of upper urinary tract disorders and to provide penile reconstruction. However, by the time of puberty, it is not always possible to achieve optimal anatomical features of the penis, and usually, by the end of puberty, the penile length is no more than 7 cm, which subsequently leads to psychosocial and sexual problems during puberty. Neither patient, nor urologist in most cases do not satisfy final result of the treatment of exstrophy and a number of epispadias forms. A clinical case of the surgical rehabilitation of a patient after undergoing multi-stage surgical treatment for a congenital malformation of the genitourinary system is presented in the article. MATERIALS AND METHODS: At the admission, the size of the penis was 3 cm (microfallia), urethral meatus was located in the area of the penoscrotal junction. From 2016 to 2019, the patient underwent neofallos formation, urethroplasty, and implantation of prostheses in the neophallos. RESULTS: According to the results, urinary and sexual function was completely restored, as well as anatomical relationships and dimensional parameters of the genitals.

The phosphate–sulfate synthesis approach preventing the elimination of sulfur in the process of synthesis has been tested for NaBa6Zr(PO4)5SO4 as an example. The phase formation and thermal stability of phosphate–sulfate have been studied by X-ray diffraction and DTA-TG. The NaBa6Zr(PO4)5SO4 structure (space group I$$\overline 4 $$3d, a = 10.5449(3) A, V = 1172.54(5) A3, Z = 4) allied to the eulytite mineral has been refined by the Rietveld method. The structure is formed by wavy chains of edge-sharing (Na,Ba,Zr)O6-octahedra and (P,S)O4-tetrahedra sharing apices with the octahedra. Using thermal X-ray diffraction, it has been established that phosphate–sulfate is a strongly expanding material (αа = αb = αc = 13.3 × 10–6°C–1).

This paper dwells upon crank-type flying shears installed on profile benders at a steelwork facility. It analyzes a control system that enables the unit to cut a continuously rolling strip to length. The research goal is to improve the precision of cutting profiled sheets to length, to reduce the production of out-of-tolerance workpieces, and to increase the unit’s throughput. The report addresses methods to improve the precision of cutting workpieces to length in static and dynamic operation. It proposes a concept solution for generating and communicating control signals to the flying shear motor drive; the signals are a function of the strip speed adjusted for the dynamic parameters of the motor. The paper further substantiates a redesign of the shears, which does not involve replacing the power unit. The research team developed a dynamic model for the tested object, which helps analyze the control system for cutting to length. Thus, the team was able to derive the number of the preemptive pulses of the strip position sensor as a function of the strip speed. We then created a two-level automated system for controlled cutting to length, which is based on a microprocessor unit and an industrial controller. A control program has been developed and implemented. After experimental testing was done, the system was put into operation.

It is demonstrated that the main disadvantage of induction motors is a relatively low power factor. In order to enhance energy efficiency of the electric drives, it is proposed to use an innovative technology of their upgrading in the course of overhauls. A distinctive feature of the proposed overhaul is the recalculation of the stator winding considering the real state of the stator steel and uses the phenomenon of current ferro-resonance in the machine’s electromagnetic system. This makes it possible to create an induction motor with the desired power factor, even equal to one. Upgrading allows increasing the efficiency factor and reducing the active power losses by 3–7% in the electric drive system and in the power supply system. Additional expenses for upgrading costs amount to 23–30% of the conventional overhaul costs. However, these additional expenses can be justified within 0.25–0.8 years due to energy savings. The results of this R&D project can be recommended for review to the power departments of the running industrial companies, electrical repair shops and energy saving centers.

The work objective is to study the wear resistance of the experimental hard alloys (EHA) and complex alloyed high-speed steels (HSS) under cutting, as well as to establish the interconnection between their tribological characteristics and the entropy values (thermal EMF). The experimental studies on the EHA wear are carried out under the longitudinal turning, and HSS - under the friction conditions and drilling operations. Molybdenum, iron, titanium and copper mono carbide alloys are inserted into the cobalt bonds. It is shown that in this case, both entropy and wear-resistance increase (up to 2.5-3 times) as compared to the VK8 base alloy. At the same time the optimum machining spectrum extends. The functional relation between entropy and thermal EMF of the HSS is established, and it is shown that the minimum values of the thermal EMF correspond to the high entropy values. The HSS wear rate under friction is lower and the guaranteed life of drills is higher in steels with a high entropy value. The results obtained should be applied to the forming operations for the cutting-tool materials (CTM) of the maximum wear-resistance, and when developing new CTM.

Urethral strictures are one of the most common reasons to see a urologist and are considered a socially significant disease. Management of urethral strictures is one of the challenging issues in urology. The article presents a case of a patient with extensive iatrogenic stricture of the penile urethra. The patient underwent penile augmentation urethroplasty using buccal mucosa resulting in the restoration of the whole length of the urethral lumen and non-obstructive urination according to uroflowmetry findings.

The article presents a case of successful penile revascularization using laparoscopic mobilization of the inferior epigastric artery in a 35 y. o. patient with penile arteriovenous insufficiency.

Complicated etiopathogenesis of chronic prostatitis, presence of various complications and lack of an effective single treatment method make it imperative to develop a widespread introduction of new methods into the clinical practice. All this was a rationale for the use of the combined effects of interference currents and vacuum massage for patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis. The study included 60 patients aged 25-50 years with chronic bacterial prostatitis in the latent phase of inflammation. The study was conducted on a comparative aspect basis of the three randomized groups of patients (n = 20), comparable for all criteria, divided depending on the methods applied in two treatment and one control group. In this case, the originally assigned standard medication treatment was an obligatory component in all three groups. The study showed a high clinical efficacy of the use of vacuum-Interference in the patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis.
