We investigate the Deser-Woodard model of nonlocal gravity involving four auxiliary scalar fields, introduced to explain the standard cosmological background expansion history without fine-tuning issues. In particular, we propose a novel approach to simplify the complex field equations within the proper tetrad frame, thereby recasting the original system into a more tractable equivalent differential problem. We show that, by only assuming the form of the $tt$ metric component, it is possible to reconstruct the distortion function of the gravitational model through a step-by-step procedure involving the use of either analytical, perturbative, or numerical methods. We then outline a potential strategy for solving the vacuum field equations in the case of a static and spherically symmetric spacetime. Specifically, we applied our technique to find three traversable wormholes supported purely by gravity, discussing then their main geometric properties. The obtained results provide a possible pathway for determining new compact object solutions while offering a deeper understanding of nonlocal theories of gravity., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, 1 table

This paper explores the embedding of lattice structures $L \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$ into smooth manifolds $M \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$ through a rigorous mathematical framework. Building upon the foundational results established in "Embedding of a Discrete Lattice Structure in a Smooth Manifold," this work investigates the existence and solvability of partial differential equations (PDEs) governing the embedding process. The primary aim is to derive and analyze solutions to these PDEs while preserving the geometric and topological properties of $L$ and $M$. The solutions are shown to exist under initial boundary conditions, with the geometric structure of $M$ and the discrete topology of $L$ playing crucial roles in ensuring well-posedness and regularity. This paper provides a detailed exposition of the mathematical interplay between discrete and continuous spaces, offering novel insights into embedding theory and the geometry of manifolds interacting with discrete substructures.

I propose a mathematical framework for embedding an unshaped discrete lattice $L$ on a smooth manifold $M$. This framework simplifies complex concepts in pure mathematics and physics by connecting discrete lattice structures with continuous geometric interpretations through practical embeddings.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are one of the most promising developments in the field of artificial intelligence, and the software engineering community has readily noticed their potential role in the software development life-cycle. Developers routinely ask LLMs to generate code snippets, increasing productivity but also potentially introducing ownership, privacy, correctness, and security issues. Previous work highlighted how code generated by mainstream commercial LLMs is often not safe, containing vulnerabilities, bugs, and code smells. In this paper, we present a framework that leverages testing and static analysis to assess the quality, and guide the self-improvement, of code generated by general-purpose, open-source LLMs. First, we ask LLMs to generate C code to solve a number of programming tasks. Then we employ ground-truth tests to assess the (in)correctness of the generated code, and a static analysis tool to detect potential safety vulnerabilities. Next, we assess the models ability to evaluate the generated code, by asking them to detect errors and vulnerabilities. Finally, we test the models ability to fix the generated code, providing the reports produced during the static analysis and incorrectness evaluation phases as feedback. Our results show that models often produce incorrect code, and that the generated code can include safety issues. Moreover, they perform very poorly at detecting either issue. On the positive side, we observe a substantial ability to fix flawed code when provided with information about failed tests or potential vulnerabilities, indicating a promising avenue for improving the safety of LLM-based code generation tools.

Three different computed tomography (CT) reconstruction algorithms: Filtered Back Projection (FBP), Unified Tomographic Reconstruction (UTR) and customized Simultaneous Algebraic Reconstruction Technique (cSART), have been systematically compared and evaluated using experimental data from CT scans of ten fresh mastectomy samples collected at the Imaging and Medical beamline of the Australian Synchrotron. All the scans were collected at the mean glandular dose of 2 mGy, using monochromatic X-rays with 32 keV energy, flat-panel detectors with 0.1 mm pixels and 6 meter distance between the rotation stage and the detector. Paganin's phase retrieval method was used in conjunction with all three CT reconstruction algorithms. The reconstructed images were compared in terms of the objective image quality characteristics, including spatial resolution, contrast, signal-to-noise, and contrast-to-noise ratios. The images were also evaluated by seven experienced medical imaging specialists, rating perceptible contrast, sharpness of tissue interfaces, image noise, calcification visibility and overall image quality. Of the three compared algorithms, cSART was clearly superior to UTR and FBP in terms of most measured objective image quality characteristics. At the same time, the results of the subjective quality evaluation consistently favoured the images reconstructed by FBP, followed by UTR, with cSART receiving lower scores on average. We argue that this apparent disagreement between the objective and subjective assessments of image quality can be explained by the importance assigned to image contrast in the subjective assessment, while the signal-to-noise ratio seemed to receive relatively low weighting. Despite being an essential tool across engineering and finance, Monte Carlo simulation can be computationally intensive, especially in large-scale, path-dependent problems that hinder straightforward parallelization. A natural alternative is to replace simulation with machine learning or surrogate prediction, though this introduces challenges in understanding the resulting errors.We introduce a Prediction-Enhanced Monte Carlo (PEMC) framework where we leverage machine learning prediction as control variates, thus maintaining unbiased evaluations instead of the direct use of ML predictors. Traditional control variate methods require knowledge of means and focus on per-sample variance reduction. In contrast, PEMC aims at overall cost-aware variance reduction, eliminating the need for mean knowledge. PEMC leverages pre-trained neural architectures to construct effective control variates and replaces computationally expensive sample-path generation with efficient neural network evaluations. This allows PEMC to address scenarios where no good control variates are known. We showcase the efficacy of PEMC through two production-grade exotic option-pricing problems: swaption pricing in HJM model and the variance swap pricing in a stochastic local volatility model.

Optical metasurfaces are rapidly establishing as key-enabling platforms for nanophotonics applications. Along with the ability of taming light in subwavelength thicknesses, they can feature multiple functionalities in one device. The generation and control of light polarization by metasurfaces already provided a route towards ultracompact polarimetry devices in the linear regime. If translated to the nonlinear optical regime it may become a key-enabling tool in nonlinear imaging, optical holography and sensing. Here, we report the experimental ultrafast all-optical polarization modulation of upconverted light by all-dielectric metasurfaces via nonlinear interferometry. By controlling the relative phase between a pump beam at $\omega$ and its frequency-double replica at 2$\omega$, we can set the phase relation between two frequency-degenerate upconverted processes at 3$\omega$ $-$ Sum-Frequency Generation (SFG) and Third-Harmonic Generation (THG) $-$ stemming from an AlGaAs metasurface. By exploiting the opposite parity of the two nonlinear process and tuning their relative powers, we can achieve modulation of the polarization states of the light emitted at 3$\omega$ between linear and circular states with a degree of circular polarization (DOCP) up to 83$\%$. In particular, circularly polarized light features opposite handedness symmetrically located in the Fourier space, at coincidence with the first diffraction orders of the metasurface. Moreover, by toggling the phase delay by $\pi$, the handedness can be fully switched between the diffraction. Our work adds an additional layer of modulation in polarization beyond intensity to all-optical routing with precise phase control. In the era of Extremely Large Telescopes, the current generation of 8-10m facilities are likely to remain competitive at ground-UV wavelengths for the foreseeable future. The Cassegrain U-Band Efficient Spectrograph (CUBES) has been designed to provide high instrumental efficiency ( $>$ 37\%) observations in the near UV (305-400 nm requirement, 300-420 nm goal) at a spectral resolving power of R $>$ 20, 000 (with a lower-resolution, sky-limited mode of R $\sim$ 7, 000). With the design focusing on maximizing the instrument throughput (ensuring a Signal to Noise Ratio -SNR- $\sim$ 20 per spectral resolution element at 313 nm for U $\sim$ 17.5 mag objects in 1h of observations), it will offer new possibilities in many fields of astrophysics: i) access to key lines of stellar spectra (e.g. lighter elements, in particular Beryllium), extragalactic studies (e.g. circumgalactic medium of distant galaxies, cosmic UV background) and follow-up of explosive transients. We present the CUBES instrument design, currently in Phase-C and approaching the final design review, summarizing the hardware architecture and interfaces between the different subsystems as well as the relevant technical requirements. We describe the optical, mechanical, electrical design of the different subsystems (from the telescope adapter and support structure, through the main opto-mechanical path, including calibration unit, detector devices and cryostat control, main control electronics), detailing peculiar instrument functions like the Active Flexure Compensation (AFC). Furthermore, we outline the AITV concept and the main instrument operations giving an overview of its software ecosystem. Installation at the VLT is planned for 2028-2029 and first science operations in late 2029.

Electro-optical modulation is widely employed for optical signal processing and in laser technology. To date, it is efficiently realized in integrated photonic systems as well as in bulk optics devices. Yet, the achievement of modulators exploiting Pockels effect in flat optics, essential to scale down the electric radiation-optical control in free space, currently lag behind bulk and on-chip integrated platforms in terms efficiency and speed. We bridge this gap realizing a metasurface based on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) on insulator that leverages on resonances with quality-factor as high as 8e3 to achieve fast electrical modulation of both linear and nonlinear optical properties. LiNbO3, well known for its high nonlinear susceptibility and wide transparency window across the infrared and visible spectrum, is employed to realize an asymmetric, one-dimensional array of nanowires, exhibiting resonances with linewidth < 0.2 nm. By applying a CMOS-compatible electrical bias, the metasurface imparts a relative reflectivity modulation around 0.1, with a modulation efficiency, defined as relative modulation per applied Volt, larger than 0.01 V^-1 on a bandwidth of about 1 GHz. We also demonstrated more than one order of magnitude intensity modulation of the second harmonic seeded by a continuous-wave laser, with a modulation efficiency of about 0.12 V^-1. This dual modulation capability, rooted in the interplay between optical resonances and electric field manipulation, holds significant potential for cutting-edge applications in high-speed photonics, nonlinear optics, and reconfigurable communication systems. Our findings highlight the transformative potential of LiNbO3-based metasurfaces for integration into next-generation optical technologies that demand rapid, efficient electrical control of light.

Projections from global climate models reveal a significant inter-model spread in future rainfall changes in the tropical Atlantic by the end of the 21st century, including alterations to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and monsoonal regions. While existing studies have identified various sources of uncertainty, our research uncovers a prominent role played by the decline of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) for the inter-model spread. Firstly we examine 30 climate model simulations (using the ssp5-8.5 scenario) from the CMIP6 archive and show that models that present a more substantial AMOC decline exhibit an equatorward shift of the ascending branch of the Atlantic regional Hadley circulation, resulting in a southward displacement of the ITCZ. Conversely, models characterized by a smaller AMOC decline do not indicate any ITCZ displacement. Secondly, we use targeted experiments (using the abrupt 4xCO2 experiment) to specifically isolate the effects of a weakened AMOC from the changes in precipitation that would occur if, under continuous global warming, the AMOC did not weaken. Our results demonstrate that net precipitation anomalies in the abrupt 4xCO2 experiments are displaced southwards compared to the simulation with fixed AMOC strength, corroborating our previous findings. Our study has implications for understanding the mechanisms driving future changes in tropical Atlantic precipitation, and underscores the central role played by the AMOC in future climate change.

In this Letter we report on the experimental generation of high energy (10 GeV), ultra-short (fs-duration), ultra-high current (0.1 MA), petawatt peak power electron beams in a particle accelerator. These extreme beams enable the exploration of a new frontier of high intensity beam-light and beam-matter interactions broadly relevant across fields ranging from laboratory astrophysics to strong field quantum electrodynamics and ultra-fast quantum chemistry. We demonstrate our ability to generate and control the properties of these electron beams by means of a laser-electron beam shaping technique. This experimental demonstration opens the door to on-the-fly customization of extreme beam current profiles for desired experiments and is poised to benefit a broad swathe of cross-cutting applications of relativistic electron beams.

We present a comprehensive framework of modeling covariance in angular streaking experiments. Within the impulsive streaking regime, the displacement of electron momentum distribution (MD) provides a tight connection between the dressing-free MD and the dressed MD. Such connection establishes universal structures in the composition of streaking covariance that are common across different MDs, regardless of their exact shape. Building on this robust framework, we have developed methods for retrieving temporal information from angular streaking measurements. By providing a detailed understanding of the covariance structure in angular streaking experiments, our work enables more accurate and robust temporal measurements in a wide range of experimental scenarios., Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures

In molecular systems, the ultrafast motion of electrons initiates the process of chemical change. Tracking this electronic motion across molecules requires coupling attosecond time resolution to atomic-scale spatial sensitivity. In this work, we employ a pair of attosecond x-ray pulses from an x-ray free-electron laser to follow electron motion resulting from the sudden removal of an electron from a prototypical aromatic system, para-aminophenol. X-ray absorption enables tracking this motion with atomic-site specificity. Our measurements are compared with state-of-the-art computational modeling, reproducing the observed response across multiple timescales. Sub-femtosecond dynamics are assigned to states undergoing non-radiative decay, while few-femtosecond oscillatory motion is associated with electronic wavepacket motion in stable cation states, that will eventually couple to nuclear motion. Our work provides insight on the ultrafast charge motion preceding and initiating chemical transformations in moderately complex systems, and provides a powerful benchmark for computational models of ultrafast charge motion in matter.

Thus (CSP) implies (TSTS-M^{++}) and vice-versa, and both imply the invertibility of the hypo-elastic material law between the stress and strain rates given by the tensor $\mathbb{H}^{\rm ZJ}(\sigma)$. The same characterization remains true for the corotational Green-Naghdi rate as well as the corotational logarithmic rate, conferring the corotational stability postulate (CSP) together with the monotonicity in the logarithmic strain tensor (TSTS-M^{++}) a far reaching generality. It is conjectured that this characterization of (CSP) holds for a large class of reasonable corotational rates. The result for the logarithmic rate is based on a novel chain rule for corotational derivatives of isotropic tensor functions.

In this paper, a statistical analysis of the performance of a low insulin index, alkaline and functional diet developed by ANTUR evaluated with machine learning techniques is reported. The sample of patients was checked on a regular basis with a BioImpedenziometric (BIA) analysis. The BIA gives about 40 parameters output describing the health status of the patient. The sample of 1626 patients was grouped in clusters with similar characteristics by a neural network algorithm. A study of the behaviour of the BIA parameters evolution over time with respect to the first visit was performed. More than the 75% of the patient that followed the ANTUR diet showed an improvement of the health status.

Since the invention of the laser nonlinear effects such as filamentation, Rabi-cycling and collective emission have been explored in the optical regime leading to a wide range of scientific and industrial applications. X-ray free electron lasers (XFELs) have led to the extension of many optical techniques to X-rays for their advantages of angstrom scale spatial resolution and elemental specificity. One such example is XFEL driven population inversion of 1s core hole states resulting in inner-shell K${\alpha}$ (2p to 1s) X-ray lasing in elements ranging from neon to copper, which has been utilized for nonlinear spectroscopy and development of next generation X-ray laser sources. Here we show that strong lasing effects, similar to those observed in the optical regime, can occur at 1.5 to 2.1 angstrom wavelengths during high intensity (> ${10^{19}}$ W/cm${^{2}}$) XFEL driven inner-shell lasing and superfluorescence of copper and manganese. Depending on the temporal substructure of the XFEL pump pulses, the resulting inner-shell X-ray laser pulses can exhibit strong spatial inhomogeneities as well as spectral inhomogeneities and broadening. Through 3D Maxwell Bloch theory we show that the observed spatial inhomogeneities result from X-ray filamentation, and that the spectral broadening is driven by Rabi cycling with sub-femtosecond periods. These findings indicate that we have generated Angstrom-wavelength x-ray pulses (containing ${10^{6}}$ - ${10^{8}}$ photons) in the strong lasing regime, some of them with pulse lengths of less than 100 attoseconds.

Ensemble methods such as random forests have transformed the landscape of supervised learning, offering highly accurate prediction through the aggregation of multiple weak learners. However, despite their effectiveness, these methods often lack transparency, impeding users' comprehension of how RF models arrive at their predictions. Explainable ensemble trees (E2Tree) is a novel methodology for explaining random forests, that provides a graphical representation of the relationship between response variables and predictors. A striking characteristic of E2Tree is that it not only accounts for the effects of predictor variables on the response but also accounts for associations between the predictor variables through the computation and use of dissimilarity measures. The E2Tree methodology was initially proposed for use in classification tasks. In this paper, we extend the methodology to encompass regression contexts. To demonstrate the explanatory power of the proposed algorithm, we illustrate its use on real-world datasets.

We investigate the gravitational origin of the Tsallis entropy, characterized by the nonadditive index $\delta$. Utilizing Wald's formalism within the framework of $f(R)$ modified theories of gravity, we evaluate the entropy on the black hole horizon for constant curvature solutions to the spherically symmetric vacuum field equations. In so doing, we demonstrate that the Tsallis entropy can be effectively derived from a generalization of the Lagrangian $\mathcal{L}\propto R^{1+\epsilon}$, where $\epsilon=\delta-1$ quantifies small deviations from general relativity. In conclusion, we examine the physical implications of our findings in light of cosmological observations and elaborate on the possibility of solving the thermodynamic instability of Schwarzschild black holes., Comment: 8 pages. Below its Jahn--Teller transition temperature, $T_\mathrm{JT}$, NaNiO$_2$ has a monoclinic layered structure consisting of alternating layers of edge-sharing NaO$_6$ and Jahn-Teller-distorted NiO$_6$ octahedra. Above $T_\mathrm{JT}$ where NaNiO$_2$ is rhombohedral, diffraction measurements show the absence of a cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion, accompanied by an increase in the unit cell volume. Using neutron total scattering, solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) experiments as local probes of the structure we find direct evidence for a displacive, as opposed to order-disorder Jahn-Teller transition at $T_\mathrm{JT}$. This is supported by \textit{ab initio} molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. By means of numerical analysis conducted with the aid of the computer, the collective synchronization of coupled phase oscillators in the Kuramoto model in the connected regime of random networks of various sizes is studied. The oscillators synchronize and achieve phase coherence, and this process is not significantly affected by the level of connectivity of the network. If the probability that two oscillators are coupled is around the network connectivity threshold synchronization still occurs, although in a more attenuated way. We have developed a first-principles method to calculate the electron-phonon coupling for specific modes and q-points in the Brillouin Zone for crystalline organic semiconductors. Using the obtained coupling strengths, we propose an approach to compute the temperature-dependent mobilities of electrons and holes. This methodology is applied to both bulk and thin-film polymorphs of tetracene. To validate our treatment of the electronic structures and vibrational properties, we calculate the Raman spectra in the lattice-phonon region and compare them with experimental data. We then compare the computed mobilities with available data for single crystals, finding good agreement within the experimental range, especially when accounting for possible charged impurities. Finally, we discuss the observed differences between the polymorphs.

Clinical and biomedical research in low-resource settings often faces significant challenges due to the need for high-quality data with sufficient sample sizes to construct effective models. These constraints hinder robust model training and prompt researchers to seek methods for leveraging existing knowledge from related studies to support new research efforts. Transfer learning (TL), a machine learning technique, emerges as a powerful solution by utilizing knowledge from pre-trained models to enhance the performance of new models, offering promise across various healthcare domains. Despite its conceptual origins in the 1990s, the application of TL in medical research has remained limited, especially beyond image analysis. In our review of TL applications in structured clinical and biomedical data, we screened 3,515 papers, with 55 meeting the inclusion criteria. Among these, only 2% (one out of 55) utilized external studies, and 7% (four out of 55) addressed scenarios involving multi-site collaborations with privacy constraints. To achieve actionable TL with structured medical data while addressing regional disparities, inequality, and privacy constraints in healthcare research, we advocate for the careful identification of appropriate source data and models, the selection of suitable TL frameworks, and the validation of TL models with proper baselines.

The aim of this research work is to analyse the large scale response of a vehicle wake to on-road perturbations by using an instrumented vehicle and a combination of scale one wind tunnel tests, track trials and on road experiments. More precisely, in all these tests, we focus on the analysis of the asymmetry of the pressure distribution at the base. Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is used. For all cases considered, POD analysis reveals two dominant modes, respectively associated with vertical and horizontal wake large scale reorganisation. More than 50\% of the total energy is carried by these two modes and this value increases significantly for on-road tests. Noteworthy, the low-frequency energy content of the temporal coefficients of these modes is significantly higher on-road. Low frequencies (even very low ones) then play a major role, corresponding to a quasi-static perturbation domain of the velocity seen by the vehicle. We show that a quasi-steady exploration of the on-road yaw angle statistical distribution during a wind tunnel test captures phenomena similar to those observed on the road and is therefore interesting to evaluate on-road aerodynamic performances. This also opens perspectives for developing closed loop control strategies aiming to maintain a prescribed wake balance in order to reduce drag experienced on the road.

In this work we provide a non-perturbative solution to the theoretical problem of extracting scattering amplitudes from Euclidean correlators in infinite volume. We work within the solid axiomatic framework of the Haag-Ruelle scattering theory and derive formulae which can be used to approximate scattering amplitudes arbitrarily well in terms of linear combinations of Euclidean correlators at discrete time separations. Our result generalizes and extends the range of applicability of a result previously obtained by Barata and Fredenhagen [Commun. Math. Phys. 138 (1991) 507-520]. We provide a concrete procedure to construct such approximations, making our formulae ready to be used in numerical calculations of non-perturbative QCD scattering amplitudes. A detailed numerical investigation is needed to assess whether the proposed strategy can lead to the calculation of scattering amplitudes with phenomenologically satisfactory precision with presently available lattice QCD data. Based on the PubMed database, there are around 260 manuscripts describing nanothermometers. These research articles detail the synthesis, performance, and application of intracellular nanothermometers. This intracellular prevalence is due to the significant importance, complexity, and utility of the intracellular compartments for understanding cell metabolism and disease treatment. However, in recent years, the extracellular environment of the cell has emerged as a crucial factor in medicine, particularly in hyperthermia and immunotherapy. Despite this, we have not seen evidence in the literature describing the utilization or performance of a nanothermometer designed for extracellular temperature measurements. This oversight not only neglects the potential for measuring extracellular temperature but also fails to address the extracellular environment of the cell. Here, we introduce a nanothermometer designed specifically for measuring extracellular temperature by directly converting serum proteins into nanothermometers (either unmodified or labeled with the clinically approved dye Fluorescein). Additionally, leveraging the extracellular localization of these nanothermometers, we demonstrate (1) the enhancement of their temperature sensitivity by combining them with gold nanorods, and (2) their capability to generate damage and disrupt the plasma membrane, thus opening the door to their use as photodynamic therapy agents. X-ray computed microtomography ({\mu}-CT) is a non-destructive technique that can generate high-resolution 3D images of the internal anatomy of medical and biological samples. These images enable clinicians to examine internal anatomy and gain insights into the disease or anatomical morphology. However, extracting relevant information from 3D images requires semantic segmentation of the regions of interest, which is usually done manually and results time-consuming and tedious. In this work, we propose a novel framework that uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) to automatically segment the full morphology of the heart of Carassius auratus. The framework employs an optimized 2D CNN architecture that can infer a 3D segmentation of the sample, avoiding the high computational cost of a 3D CNN architecture. We tackle the challenges of handling large and high-resoluted image data (over a thousand pixels in each dimension) and a small training database (only three samples) by proposing a standard protocol for data normalization and processing. Moreover, we investigate how the noise, contrast, and spatial resolution of the sample and the training of the architecture are affected by the reconstruction technique, which depends on the number of input images. Experiments show that our framework significantly reduces the time required to segment new samples, allowing a faster microtomography analysis of the Carassius auratus heart shape. Furthermore, our framework can work with any bio-image (biological and medical) from {\mu}-CT with high-resolution and small dataset size

The simulation of electronic properties is a pivotal issue in modern electronic structure theory, driving significant efforts over the past decades to develop protocols for computing energy derivatives. In this work, we address this problem by developing a strategy to integrate the quantum phase estimation algorithm within a fully differentiable framework. This is accomplished by devising a smooth estimator able to tackle arbitrary initial states. We provide analytical expressions to characterize the statistics and algorithmic cost of this estimator. Furthermore, we provide numerical evidence that the estimation accuracy is retained when an arbitrary state is considered and that it exceeds the one of standard majority rule. We explicitly use this procedure to estimate chemically relevant quantities, demonstrating our approach through ground-state and triplet excited state geometry optimization with simulations involving up to 19 qubits. This work paves the way for new quantum algorithms that combine interference methods and quantum differentiable programming.

We describe the design and performance of a magnetic bottle electron spectrometer~(MBES) for high-energy electron spectroscopy. Our design features a ${\sim2}$~m long electron drift tube and electrostatic retardation lens, achieving sub-electronvolt (eV) electron kinetic energy resolution for high energy (several hundred eV) electrons with close to 4$\pi$ collection efficiency. A segmented anode electron detector enables the simultaneous collection of photoelectron spectra in high resolution and high collection efficiency modes. This versatile instrument is installed at the TMO endstation at the LCLS x-ray free-electron laser (XFEL). In this paper, we demonstrate its high resolution, collection efficiency and spatial selectivity in measurements where it is coupled to an XFEL source. These combined characteristics are designed to enable high-resolution time-resolved measurements using x-ray photoelectron, absorption, and Auger-Meitner spectroscopy. We also describe the pervasive artifact in MBES time-of-flight spectra that arises from a periodic modulation in electron detection efficiency, and present a robust analysis procedure for its removal.

In this paper, we investigate scalar-induced gravitational waves (GWs) generated in the post-inflationary universe to infer new limits on warm inflation. We specifically examine the evolution of primordial GWs produced by scalar perturbations produced during the radiation-dominated epoch. For this purpose, we assume a weak regime of warm inflation under the slow-roll approximation, with a dissipation coefficient linearly dependent on the temperature of the radiation bath. We then derive analytical expressions for the curvature power spectrum and the scalar index, in the cases of chaotic and exponential potentials of the inflationary field. Subsequently, we compare the theoretical predictions regarding the relic energy density of GWs with the stochastic GW background signal recently detected by the NANOGrav collaboration through the use of pulsar timing array measurements. In so doing, we obtain numerical constraints on the free parameters of the inflationary models under study. Finally, we conduct a model selection analysis through the Bayesian inference method to measure the statistical performance of the different theoretical scenarios., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures
