The paper describes a new E-Delta-E detection module which includes a position-sensitive double-sided strip detector (DSSD) and a low-pressure pentane-filled Delta-E chamber for detection of Evaporation Residues (ER) in complete fusion nuclear reactions. The goal is to synthesize superheavy isotopes at the new DC-280 (Dubna Cyclotron) cyclotron of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). With the 48Ca ion beam intensity of about 5-7 pmcA (particle micro ampere) and the Delta-E counter count rate of approximately 1.0E+4 sec-1, we observe a decrease in the overall registration efficiency of the gas Delta-E counter. Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are a widely used tool for sequential data analysis, however, they are still often seen as black boxes of computation. Understanding the functional principles of these networks is critical to developing ideal model architectures and optimization strategies. Previous studies typically only emphasize the network representation post-training, overlooking their evolution process throughout training. Here, we present Multiway Multislice PHATE (MM-PHATE), a novel method for visualizing the evolution of RNNs' hidden states. MM-PHATE is a graph-based embedding using structured kernels across the multiple dimensions spanned by RNNs: time, training epoch, and units. We demonstrate on various datasets that MM-PHATE uniquely preserves hidden representation community structure among units and identifies information processing and compression phases during training. The embedding allows users to look under the hood of RNNs across training and provides an intuitive and comprehensive strategy to understanding the network's internal dynamics and draw conclusions, e.g., on why and how one model outperforms another or how a specific architecture might impact an RNN's learning ability.

Policymaking for complex challenges such as pandemics necessitates the consideration of intricate implications across multiple domains and scales. Computational models can support policymaking, but a single model is often insufficient for such multidomain and scale challenges. Multi-models comprising several interacting computational models at different scales or relying on different modeling paradigms offer a potential solution. Such multi-models can be assembled from existing computational models (i.e., integrated modeling) or be designed conceptually as a whole before their computational implementation (i.e., integral modeling). Integral modeling is particularly valuable for novel policy problems, such as those faced in the early stages of a pandemic, where relevant models may be unavailable or lack standard documentation. Designing such multi-models through an integral approach is, however, a complex task requiring the collaboration of modelers and experts from various domains. In this collaborative effort, modelers must precisely define the domain knowledge needed from experts and establish a systematic procedure for translating such knowledge into a multi-model. Yet, these requirements and systematic procedures are currently lacking for multi-models that are both multiscale and multi-paradigm. We address this challenge by introducing a procedure for developing multi-models with an integral approach based on clearly defined domain knowledge requirements derived from literature. We illustrate this procedure using the case of school closure policies in the Netherlands during the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing their potential implications in the short and long term and across the healthcare and educational domains. The requirements and procedure provided in this article advance the application of integral multi-modeling for policy support in multiscale and multidomain contexts.

In this paper, we present the results of the first beam tests of the detection system at the focal plane of the Dubna Gas-Filled Recoil Separator-2 (DGFRS-2), which receives beams from the DC-280 FLNR cyclotron. The high beam intensity of $^{48}$Ca$^{+10}$ heavy ions from the cyclotron enables us to obtain a number of superheavy recoils sufficient to compare both the measured and calculated spectra of superheavy recoils implanted into a silicon detector. A real-time algorithm to search for an Evaporation Residue (ER) -- $\alpha$ correlated sequences is described in brief. It should be noted that the DGFRS-2 spectrometer operates in conjunction with the 48x128 strip DSSD (Double-sided Silicon Strip Detector; 48x226 mm2) detector and a low-pressure pentane-filled gaseous detector (1.2 Torr; 80x230 mm$^2$). A block-diagram of the spectrometer and the event format are also presented. Special attention is paid to the response of a low-pressure pentane-filled DeltaE multiwire proportional chamber for recoils of Fl, synthesized in the $^{242}$Pu+$^{48}$Ca $\to$ $^{287}$Fl +3n complete fusion nuclear reaction. Some actual parameters of the detection system have also been extracted from $^{\rm nat}$Yb + $^{48}$Ca, $^{232}$Th + $^{48}$Ca, $^{243}$Am + $^{48}$Ca, $^{238}$U + $^{48}$Ca reactions. The reaction $^{96}$Zr($\alpha$,n)$^{99}$Mo plays an important role in $\nu$-driven wind nucleosynthesis in core-collapse supernovae and is a possible avenue for medical isotope production. Cross section measurements were performed using the activation technique at the Edwards Accelerator Laboratory. Results were analyzed along with world data on the $^{96}{\rm Zr}(\alpha,n)$ cross section and $^{96}{\rm Zr}(\alpha,\alpha)$ differential cross section using large-scale Hauser-Feshbach calculations. We compare our data, previous measurements, and a statistical description of the reaction. We find a larger cross section at low energies compared to prior experimental results, allowing for a larger astrophysical reaction rate. This may impact results of core-collapse supernova $\nu$-driven wind nucleosynthesis calculations, but does not significantly alter prior conclusions about $^{99}{\rm Mo}$ production for medical physics applications. The results from our large-scale Hauser-Feshbach calculations demonstrate that phenomenological optical potentials may yet be adequate to describe $(\alpha,n)$ reactions of interest for $\nu$-driven wind nucleosynthesis, albeit with regionally-adjusted model parameters., Comment: accepted to PRC

Detection system and software package coded in Builder C ++ are developed for the new analog spectrometer of the DGFRS-2 setup installed on the new DC-280 cyclotron. This software allows providing data acquisition using a 48x128 DSSSD (Double Side Silicon Strip Detector) detector and a multi-wire gaseous detector. The main feature of this software package is the use of flexible real-time algorithms to provide deep suppression of the background in reactions for the synthesis of superheavy elements, using the detection of correlations ER-{\alpha} (Recoil-alpha particle). Summary: The CoV-Spectrum website supports the identification of new SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern and the tracking of known variants. Its flexible amino acid and nucleotide mutation search allows querying of variants before they are designated by a lineage nomenclature system. The platform brings together SARS-CoV-2 data from different sources and applies analyses. Results include the proportion of different variants over time, their demographic and geographic distributions, common mutations, hospitalization and mortality probabilities, estimates for transmission fitness advantage and insights obtained from wastewater samples. Nuclear reactions of interest for astrophysics and applications often rely on statistical model calculations for nuclear reaction rates, particularly for nuclei far from $\beta$-stability. However, statistical model parameters are often poorly constrained, where experimental constraints are particularly sparse for exotic nuclides. For example, our understanding of the breakout from the NiCu cycle in the astrophysical rp-process is currently limited by uncertainties in the statistical properties of the proton-rich nucleus $^{60}$Zn. We have determined the nuclear level density of $^{60}$Zn using neutron evaporation spectra from $^{58}$Ni($^3$He, n) measured at the Edwards Accelerator Laboratory. We compare our results to a number of theoretical predictions, including phenomenological, microscopic, and shell model based approaches. Notably, we find the $^{60}$Zn level density is somewhat lower than expected for excitation energies populated in the $^{59}$Cu(p,$\gamma$)$^{60}$Zn reaction under rp-process conditions. This includes a level density plateau from roughly 5-6 MeV excitation energy, which is counter to the usual expectation of exponential growth and all theoretical predictions that we explore. A determination of the spin-distribution at the relevant excitation energies in $^{60}$Zn is needed to confirm that the Hauser-Feshbach formalism is appropriate for the $^{59}$Cu(p,$\gamma$)$^{60}$Zn reaction rate at X-ray burst temperatures., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures

40K plays a significant role in the radiogenic heating of earth-like exoplanets, which can affect the development of a habitable environment on their surfaces. The initial amount of 40K in the interior of these planets depends on the composition of the interstellar clouds from which they formed. Within this context, nuclear reactions that regulate the production of 40K during stellar evolution can play a critical role. In this study, we constrain for the first time the astrophysical reaction rate of 40K(n,p)40Ar, which is responsible for the destruction of 40K during stellar nucleosynthesis. We performed differential cross-section measurements on the 40Ar(p,n)40K reaction, for six energies in the center-of-mass between 3.2 and 4.0 MeV and various angles between 0-deg and 135-deg. The experiment took place at the Edwards Accelerator Laboratory at Ohio University using the beam swinger target location and a standard neutron time-of-flight technique. The total and partial cross-sections varied with energy due to the contribution from isobaric analog states and Ericson type fluctuations. The energy-averaged neutron angular distributions were symmetrical relative to 90-deg and consistent with the theoretical predictions of the statistical model. Based on the experimental data, local transmission coefficients were extracted and were used to calculate the astrophysical reaction rates of 40Ar(p,n)40K and 40K(n,p)40Ar reactions. Our results support that the destruction rate of 40K in massive stars via the 40K(n,p)40Ar reaction is larger compared to previous estimates. This result directly affects the predicted stellar yields of 40K from nucleosynthesis, which is a critical input parameter for the galactic chemical evolution models that are currently employed for the study of significant properties of exoplanets., Comment: 20 pages, 16 figures, submitted to PRC (revised manuscript after referee's review)

The Dubna Gas Filled Recoil Separator is the most advanced facility currently in use in the field of research of superheavy nuclei. Definitely, the DGFRS detection system and method of active correlations have played a significant role in these discoveries. Author defines abstract mathematical objects, like correlation graph and incoming event matrixes of a different nature in order to construct a simple procedure for detecting rare events, yet more exhaustive compared to the present one, using real time detection mode. In this case one can use any of correlation graph links to trigger cyclotron beam stopper to provide background free conditions to search for ultra rare alpha decays. Schematics of these algorithms are presented.

The Oslo Method has been applied to particle-$\gamma$ coincidences following the $^{239}\mathrm{Pu}$(d,p) reaction to obtain the nuclear level density (NLD) and $\gamma$-ray strength function ($\gamma$SF) of $^{240}\mathrm{Pu}$. The experiment was conducted with a 12 MeV deuteron beam at the Oslo Cyclotron Laboratory. The low spin transfer of this reaction leads to a spin-parity mismatch between populated and intrinsic levels. This is a challenge for the Oslo Method as it can have a significant impact on the extracted NLD and $\gamma$SF. We have developed an iterative approach to ensure consistent results even for cases with a large spin-parity mismatch, in which we couple Green's Function Transfer calculations of the spin-parity dependent population cross-section to the nuclear decay code RAINIER. The resulting $\gamma$SF shows a pronounced enhancement between 2-4 MeV that is consistent with the location of the low-energy orbital $M1$ scissors mode.

In this paper we present the first systematic analysis of the impact of the populated vs. intrinsic spin distribution on the nuclear level density and $\gamma$-ray strength function retrieved through the Oslo Method. We illustrate the effect of the spin distribution on the recently performed $^{239}\mathrm{Pu}$(d,p$\gamma$)$^{240}\mathrm{Pu}$ experiment using a 12 MeV deuteron beam performed at the Oslo Cyclotron Lab. In the analysis we couple state-of-the-art calculations for the populated spin-distributions with the Monte-Carlo nuclear decay code RAINIER to compare Oslo Method results to the known input. We find that good knowledge of the populated spin distribution is crucial and show that the populated distribution has a significant impact on the extracted nuclear level density and $\gamma$-ray strength function for the $^{239}\mathrm{Pu}$(d,p$\gamma$)$^{240}\mathrm{Pu}$ case., Comment: Presented at the 6th International Workshop on Compound-Nuclear Reactions and Related Topics
