Aim: Our aim in this study is to determine the perceptions of medical residency students studying at a university about the hospital education environment and the factors affecting it. Methods: This was a descriptive study. The population of the research consisted of specialty students studying at Sivas Cumhuriyet University. The research questionnaire was sent to the participants via text message to their personal mobile phone numbers. Informed consent was obtained from the participants on the first page of the survey link sent to them. The data collection tool used in the study included a total of 71 questions. The first part was created by the researchers through literature review and included 31 questions. The other 40 questions were Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measure (PHEEM). Results: 266 of the 387 residency students in the faculty participated in the survey (Response rate: 68.7%). 79% of residency students studying in medical sciences and 56% in surgical sciences participated in the research. 11.7% (n=23) of residents from medical sciences and 28.6% (n=20) of residents from surgical sciences stated that no seminar hours were held. Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measure mean score of the residency students was found to be 83.6 ± 25.5. The mean score did not differ significantly between departments (p=0.578). Those who thought that there were enough residents and faculty members had higher educational environment measure scores (respectively p=0.010 and p<0.001). The educational environment scale scores of the specialty students who participated in scientific research and participated in the congress were higher than the groups that did not participate (respectively p<0.001 and p=0.001). 52.3% (n=139) of the residency students evaluated the education environment as more positive than negative, but room for improvement. Conclusion: Most of the students evaluated the educational environment positively. In order to improve the perception of the educational environment, student seminar training and congress participation should be supported, and the number of faculty members should be brought to optimal levels. In our research, we aimed to evaluate the opinions of students and academicians about PBL carried out with distance practice(e-PBL) in a medical faculty during the pandemic period. Methods: Class 1, 2 and 3 students who participated in the e-PBL sessions at Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine(SCÜTF) in the 2020-2021 academic year and faculty members who served as Educational Guides(EG) in these sessions participated in our descriptive cross-sectional study. After each PBL session, the Department of Medical Education(AD) routinely applies a PBL feedback questionnaire to the entire student population and an EG evaluation form consisting of 6 statements for them to evaluate the educational guides. This year, additional questions about online education were added to the feedback surveys in distance education. The data of the study were analyzed in SPSS 25.0 program and descriptive statistics, chi-square and Student-t were used. Results: A total of 509 students and 32 faculty members participated in our research. There was a significant difference between the PBL education guide(EG) scores of the students in the face-to-face education period in 2019-2020 and the PBL education guide scores given by distance education this year (p<0.05). 59.4% (n=19) of the academicians stated that they felt more comfortable in the face-to-face PBL session. 90.6% (n=29) of the academicians said that the students were more active in the face-to-face PBL session. 87.5%(n=28) thought that the opportunities for discussion were more in face-to-face education. In e-PBL, all of the students expressed themselves verbally only. They did not prefer to use different computer programs such as graphics and presentation preparation. 46.9% (n=15) of the faculty members stated that distance PBL training was productive, 28.1% (n=9) were undecided on this issue, and 25.0% (n=8) found it inefficient. Conclusion: The sessions, which were implemented as e-PBL under pandemic conditions, were met positively by the majority of the students and the education guides, despite their shortcomings. Objective: The use of traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) methods in our country in relation to our cultural background increases day by day. For this reason, it is important to raise awareness among medical faculty students, who are future physicians, regarding TCM. Our goal in this study is to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of Sivas Cumhuriyet University Faculty of Medicine (SCUFM) students regarding TCM practices. Method: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out with those who accepted to participate in the study among the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students studying at SCUFM between September 2020 and December 2020. 320 students who volunteered to participate in the study filled out the research questionnaire online. Results: When the knowledge level of the medical school students participating in our study regarding TCM methods was examined, the most widely known methods were found to be hypnosis treatment (93.4%), acupuncture (93.2%), and cupping (80%), respectively. While 19.1% of the students had a TCM procedure before, the most used methods were cupping (83.6%) and leech (16.4%) therapy. While 95.6% of medical students thought that patients should consult their physicians before having any TCM method applied, only 11.6% thought that TCM methods had only a placebo effect. The 79.1% of the students, think that there should be courses on TCM methods in medical education. Conclusions: In our study, we found that medical school students' knowledge on TCM applications is insufficient and they want courses related to TCM to be included in medical education. We believe that by increasing the awareness and knowledge of medical students, who will be the health professionals of the future, about TCM in medical education, these practices can be used more beneficially and in a way that is based on evidence. Objective: This study evaluates the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Sleep Disturbance scale for Children (SDSC). Materials and Methods: SDSC is a Likert-type scale with 26 items and 6 subscales used to investigate sleep disturbances in school-age children. The SDSC is completed by the parent based on the preceding 6 months. The study was started after obtaining permission from the scale owner. First, an orderly adaptation of the scale to the Turkish language was performed (translation, expert panel, back translation, pilot study). Test-retest was applied to 30 participants. After these procedures, data collection was started with SDSC and demographic data form. The collected data were analyzed for reliability (stability of the scale with test-retest; internal consistency of the scale with Cronbach's alpha) and validity (construct validity of the scale with confirmatory factor analysis). T-score table was created for SDSC and its subscales. Results: Overall, 328 participants attended the study. Of these, 51.5% were females and 48.5% were males. The mean age was 10.3±2.8 years (min: 6; max: 16 years). The Cronbach alpha value, which tested the scale's internal consistency, was 0.79. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed X2/df=2.003, p<0.001, CFI =0.845, GFI =0.875, and RMSEA =0.055. The mean of the SDSC total score was 40.6±10.1 (min: 26; max: 86). The total SDSC score of 13 children (4%) were clinically significant in terms of sleep disturbance (T-score >70). Conclusion: The Turkish version of SDSC fulfilled the validity and reliability tests at an acceptable level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: We aimed to investigate cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and risk factors and evaluate the relationship among disease activity, inflammation markers, and uric acid levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and spondyloarthritis (SpA). Materials and Methods: In this study, 98 patients with RA, 41 patients with SpA, and 95 controls were included. Participants’ demographic features, levels of body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (BP), waist circumference, glucose, cholesterol, uric acid, disease activity, and metabolic syndrome (MetS) prevalence were recorded. The 10-year CVD risk and heart age were calculated by using the Framingham risk score. Results: The mean BMI, systolic BP, diastolic BP, and waist circumference were higher in RA patients. There was no difference among patients with RA, those with SpA, and controls in terms of MetS prevalence (43.9%, 41.5%, and 35.8%, respectively, p=0.510) and 10-year CVD risk (12.7±10.2, 9.2±8.7, and 11.4±10.8, respectively, p=0.174). Higher uric acid levels were indicated in patients with MetS in both RA and SpA groups. Uric acid levels were associated with the Framingham score in RA patients. Conclusion: In patients with RA and SpA, CVD risk was determined to be similar to that of the general population. On the other hand, the uric acid level was found to be correlated with the risk of MetS, and uric acid is associated with CVD risk, especially in patients with RA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: It is aimed to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of adults about oral health in a rural area. Our secondary aim is to determine parents' teaching status of their children about oral health. Methods: Our research is a descriptive study. Our study included 235 participants, who applied to Sivas Akıncılar District State Hospital, Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic between January 1-February 1, 2018 and agreed to participate in the study. The questionnaire which measures the information and behaviors of the participants about oral health was applied with the face to face interview method.by. Patients under 18 years of age, those with no cognitive ability to answer the questions, and patients without teeth were excluded from the study. Numerical values' normality analysis was performed with Shapiro-Wilk test. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the normal distribution data. Results: Among the 235 participants, 64.3% (n=151) were female and 35.7% (n=84) were male. The median age is 35.0 (min:18-max:79). The correct answers' median, to given 9 question that measure the knowledge in the questionnaire was 5 (min:0-max:9). The median age of the participants began brushing their teeth was found to be 12 (min:3-max:53). While 6.0% (14) of the participants went to the dentist regularly, 88.5% (208)'s went when they have complaint. 186 of the participants had children. 60.2% (n=112) of the parents gave education about oral health to their children. Conclusion: It was determined that the participants' level of knowledge was low and they had training needs about oral health. It was determined that more than half of those with children had given education to their children. Objective: To evaluate the risk factors of malignant melanoma (MM) and to determine their attitudes about sun protection in patients referred to family medicine policlinics. Methods: Our research is a descriptive cross-sectional study. A total of 241 voluntary patients aged 18 years and over referred to the Ankara Numune TRH Family medicine Outpatient Clinic Polyclinic between 1 September and 1 October 2016 were included in the study. In our survey, patients' sociodemographic characteristics, presence of malignant melanoma risk factors, attitudes towards sun protection were evaluated. Results: 58.9% of the patients were female, 41.1% were male and the average age was 32.1 ± 0,7. Patients stated that they learned information about sun protection from the internet, TV programs, newspapers magazines according to frequency. Participants' use of sunscreen in daily life was 54.4%, while regular users everyday were 16.2%. Sunscreen use was significantly higher in university graduated patients, women and participants informed by a dermatologist (respectively p=0,043; p<0.001 and p<0,001). According to presence of malignant melanoma risk factors, 17,8% of participants had 0, of 33,6% had 1; of 31,1% had 2; of 12,9% had 3; of 4,6% had 4. While no significant difference was found between the risk factors and its daily sunscreen use (p=0.339); a significant difference was found between the risk factors and sunscreen use in holiday (p=0.025). Conclusion: Regular use of sunscreen was found to be very low. Family physicians should be actively involved in raising awareness of sun-protection in patients, which is the only preventable risk factor of MM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
