Presentamos una revisión de los “ídolos placa” del Sureste de la península ibérica tras los nuevos hallazgos del Polideportivo de Martos (Jaén) y Los Millares (Almería). El análisis estilístico y contextual ha permitido diferentes valoraciones. Así, se observa una relación entre la variedad formal y la localización geográfica respecto a la distancia a la necrópolis millarense. Igualmente, se aprecia la conexión de las similitudes con contactos entre grupos sociales. Con todo, se plantea el rol que la circulación de personas, especialmente de determinadas mujeres, tuvo en la configuración de una ideología relativamente común en el sur de la península ibérica. Las “placas” desempeñaron un papel trascendente en la conexión de determinadas personas con los ancestros (genéricos o particulares) sea por su integración en el ritual funerario, sea por su (re)uso como reliquia-ornamento, o por su movilización en ceremoniales de regeneración agraria. Su uso se desarrolló desde mediados del IV milenio cal AC.

Abstract The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic put the spatial layouts of contemporary housing to the test. During the strict lockdowns in the early phases of the outbreak and the limited, temporary restrictions of the later phases, the safeguarding of public health was inevitably enforced by confining people at home, thus severing, by reasons of force majeure, the traditional relationship between the house and the city. As a result, every household had to contain within itself all aspects of public and private life, regardless of the spatial qualities and the extension of the dwelling. The unexpected new role of the last defence line against the virus showed all the advantages and limits of contemporary housing and the need for a rethinking of some of their typical features. The aim of this article is to investigate how the residential space, as a whole and in its constituent parts, has become a fundamental element in a difficult period, managing to incorporate unexpected functions and requirements but also revealing a series of congenital weaknesses.

This paper presents the data that have served as the basis for the study of the spatial patterns of the megaliths of the Gor River Valley (Granada, Spain) as part of a PhD dissertation presented in July 2023 at the University of Granada. This complex, of which 151 dolmens are currently preserved, is one of the largest in Europe, standing out fundamentally because of its density. This feature undoubtedly points out the importance of symbolic territorial control searched by Late Prehistoric communities that built these graves. The geographical databases here presented are two: on the one hand, the database made up of up to 70 quantitative and qualitative variables that has been used to carry out the bulk of the doctoral study on the 151 referred dolmens and, on the other hand, the database made up of a total of 230 points identified through the review of DTMs based on LiDAR data and which could correspond totally or partially to burial mounds that have practically disappeared or are poorly preserved on the surface.

IntroductionThrombotic events in neonates and children represent a rare although severe occurrence in view of the associated risk of mortality and sequelae. Quality evidence is limited in this field, and registry studies provide an essential base for research. The aim of this paper is to present the new Italian Registry of Infantile Thrombosis (RITI), set it into the scene of international thrombosis and stroke registries, and provide some insight on the challenges associated with registry management.MethodsWe present the detailed structure and content of the new RITI registry, a brief overview of its main data, and a reflection on its features, pitfalls and the main challenges related to its management.ResultsThe RITI, initially started in 2007 and officially re-launched in 2017 after structural modifications, is a non-interventional retrospective and prospective registry study collecting data on neonatal and pediatric patients (0–18 years) who experienced a systemic or cerebral thrombotic event in Italy. The RITI is managed by a multidisciplinary team with expertise in pediatric thrombosis, and participation is open to all Italian physicians, on a voluntary basis. The overall aim of the registry is to acquire new evidence to better characterize the population of children with thrombotic events and improve their management and outcome. 48 Italian pediatric and intensive care units are actively involved in the RITI, including 85 medical doctors from 16 Italian regions. A total of 1,001 neonates and children affected by cerebral or systemic thrombosis have been enrolled.DiscussionThe RITI is one of the largest available European registries of neonatal and pediatric thrombosis. National registries like the RITI represent a model for the study of rare conditions based on multidisciplinary and multicenter collaboration, aimed at overcoming the limitations due to small populations of patients, and creating a network of experts for patient referral and continuous education. Moreover, registry studies have a pivotal role in the research on pediatric thrombosis, due to the limited feasibility of high-quality studies. In our experience, the main critical stages, pitfalls and challenges in registry management include adequate registry designing, diffusion, data completeness and quality control.

Recientes investigaciones en el yacimiento calcolítico de Los Millares, Santa Fe de Mondújar, Almería, han permitido reconocer diferentes representaciones figurativas asociadas a la muralla más exterior o Muralla I, construida en torno a 2900 cal AC. La erección de esta muralla supuso una importante ampliación del poblado al ocupar zonas anteriormente destinadas a necrópolis. Se propone que algunos elementos pertenecientes al área de necrópolis fueron respetados y reutilizados para justificar, a través de los ancestros, la capacidad de acceder al asentamiento a través de la puerta principal –con la estatua-menhir situada junto a esta–, la exclusión de aquellos no vinculados –con todas las representaciones en ambos extremos de la muralla–, la integración de nuevas poblaciones –con la Tumba 63 incluida en el trazado de la muralla–, el rol de determinados personajes –con la estatua-menhir y la estela de la Tumba 63– y, en definitiva, los derechos a ocupar y explotar un territorio. Se señala además la relación de estos procesos con los identificados tradicionalmente en las tumbas de la necrópolis.

Abstract Space is produced by a society in accordance with its habits, and habits, mostly in the Western society, have been heavily influenced by forms of production. Indeed, it is widely acknowledged that the Industrial Revolution definitely changed the space of modern landscapes, cities and dwellings life at all scales, and the way in which we perceive them. Cognitive capitalism is no exception. Since it fully established itself as one of the prevailing economic forces in the 21st century and in the Western world, it produced deep changes in the way in which people work, connect, and live. Starting from the assumption that changes in means of production generate new social relationships, this paper investigates how these changes might result in new ways of building architectural space. Without indulging in a deterministic attitude, it focuses on housing as one of the fundamental artefacts where a society expresses its approach to space. The house is a basic element of complex urban systems and is, therefore, the one calling for a more radical conceptual rethinking, marking an effective distance with the forms inherited from the previous centuries. Finally, the paper aims at understanding the repercussions of the digital paradigm on the space of dwelling, reasoning on some crucial questions to understand how housing might evolve, unfolding through its spatial configuration the new ways of life of the digital society.

Abstract This paper describes a proposal for the sustainable rehabilitation of a neglected and marginal fluvial landscape. It situates the experience into a broader debate about sustainability and spatial design, and then draws from it some general conclusion. The study subject is a fluvial valley characterised by thirty-six mills, which once served the agriculture of the surroundings. The decline of water as power source let to the decline of the valley. The mills became eventually farms, houses, or were left empty. The proposal envisions multiple forms of interaction with the different contextual issues related to the context, turning the design of the water course in a way to cope with erosion and floods, to produce clean energy, and finally as attractor for tourism. The result is a series of integrated actions that offers new opportunities to the community, designing a new sustainable landscape drawing from the specific natural and historical aspects of the site. Every action is linked with one of the anthropic and natural factors that characterise the valley, or that can be beneficially introduced, so that the proposal can be further adjusted in accordance with the relative importance of each factor over time.

At the start of this century, a discussion took place with regard to humankind as an Earth-shaping force and the beginning of a new geological epoch, the Anthropocene. This paper investigates how this condition, where nature and artificiality are considered mutually influencing agents, could concern the field of architecture. It sums up the interdisciplinary background behind the main threads on the topic, and discusses the main implications for architectural design, a discipline traditionally concerned with the relationship between the artificial human habitat and the surrounding nature.Several case studies back up these speculations and show different design concepts that try to work on a fluid relationship between artificial and natural elements.

We present here the synthetic routes and the experimental data (NMR and MS spectra) for model reactions for copper-free Huisgen 1,4-cycloaddition, Staudinger ligation and for addition of a dithiol on a dibromomaleimide ring. Starting materials were synthesized from the commercially available 4-chlorophenethylamine, previously described 2-(cyclooct-2-yn-1-yloxy)acetic acid, 1-fluorocyclooct-2-ynecarboxylic acid, commercial 2-(diphenylphosphino)terephthalic acid 1-methyl 4-pentafluorophenyl diester and dibromomaleimide. In all cases, the expected compounds were obtained with good yield (50% to quantitative). A novel synthesis of the lipid anchor DOGP3NH2 is also described. These data were used as basis for the study reported in the article “Smart Tools and Orthogonal Click-like Reactions onto Small Unilamellar Vesicles” in Chemistry and Physics of Lipids [1].

En este estudio se hace una revisión de las pinturas rupestres del abrigo de Luzzanas (Ozieri, Italia) con la ayuda del programa DStretch. El abrigo había sido descubierto y estudiado en los años 80 del siglo pasado. En sus paredes se habían reconocidos numerosos motivos rupestres, pero algunos no se veían con claridad. Gracias a la utilización de DStretch hemos podido verificar la existencia de nuevos motivos e interpretar mejor parte de los otros, especialmente antropomorfos y espirales. El hecho de que el abrigo se encuentra en un territorio rodeado de monumentos rituales de diferentes épocas permite considerar que el valor simbólico de esta zona ha perdurado en el tiempo. De igual manera su situación junto a la iglesia románica de S. Antioco di Bisarcio favorecería el disfrute público, directo o indirecto, de todas las manifestaciones pictóricas aquí presentadas.

Review of Juan Javier Rivera Andía, Peter Snowdon, The Owners of the Land. Culture and the spectre of mining in the Andes. Vzw Het Vervolg/COALFACE, 2013, 37 min, DVD.

This paper provides information on three aspects regarding the complexity of the archaeological site of Marroquíes (Jaén, Spain): 1) the composition of the population buried in rock-cut tombs and the different treatment that individuals experienced, especially in relation to their integration into multiple or collective burials and sometimes bones removal; 2) the composition of livestock and its diverse use in ritual; 3) the chronological frame of the burials as an essential step to develop (and especially support) any hypothesis about prehistoric populations, and to understand the changes that many bodies experienced along the period of worship that affected them. The available dates have shown that these strategies were developed primarily from the second half of the Third Millennium BC.

The rising awareness of human impacts on the natural environment compels researchers to steadily review the sustainability criteria for the built environment. This evolution clearly influences the research and design experiences reported in this paper, which focus on the reclamation and reuse of the historic urban fabric. These experiments help to imagine a possible future where innovation happens into the core of the city, usually considered a place devoted to tradition, rather than in its outskirts. Unexpected environmental issues consequently come to the fore, that could help in reconsidering prevailing design and building practices as well planning policies.
