1. Searching for new variable white dwarfs: The discovery of the three new pulsating and three new binary systems

Abstract

In recent years, approximately 150 low-mass white dwarfs (WDs), typically with masses below 0.4 solar masses, have been discovered. Observational evidence indicates that most of these low-mass WDs are found in binary systems, supporting binary evolution scenarios as the primary formation pathway. A few extremely low-mass (ELM) WDs in this population have also been found to be pulsationally variable. In this work, we present a comprehensive analysis aimed at identifying new variable low-mass WDs. From our candidate selection, we observed 16 objects identified within the ZZ Ceti instability strip. These objects were observed over multiple nights using high-speed photometry from the SOAR/Goodman and SMARTS-1m telescopes. Our analysis led to the discovery of three new pulsating WDs: one pulsating ELM, one low-mass WD, and one ZZ Ceti star. Additionally, we identified three objects in binary systems: two with ellipsoidal variations in their light curves, one of which is likely a pre-ELM star, and a third showing a reflection effect.

2. Copula based joint regression models for correlated data: an analysis in the bivariate case

Abstract

Regression analysis of non-normal correlated data is commonly performed using generalized linear mixed models (GLMM) and generalized estimating equations (GEE). The recent development of generalized joint regression models (GJRM) presents an alternative to these approaches by using copulas to flexibly model response variables and their dependence structures. This paper provides a simulation study that compares the GJRM with alternative methods. We focus on the case of the marginal distributions having the same form, for example, in models for longitudinal data. We find that for the normal model with identity link, all models provide accurate estimates of the parameters of interest. However, for non-normal models and when a non-identity link function is used, GLMMs in general provide biased estimates of marginal model parameters with inaccurately low standard errors. GLMM bias is more pronounced when the marginal distributions are more skewed or highly correlated. However, in the case that a GLMM parameter is estimated independently of the random effect term, we show it is possible to extract accurate parameter estimates, shown for a longitudinal time parameter with a logarithmic link model. In contrast, we find that GJRM and GEE provide unbiased estimates for all parameters with accurate standard errors when using a logarithmic link. In addition, we show that GJRM provides a model fit comparable to GLMM. In a real-world study of doctor visits, we further demonstrate that the GJRM provides better model fits than a comparable GEE or GLM, due to its greater flexibility in choice of marginal distribution and copula fit to dependence structures. We conclude that the GJRM provides a superior approach to current popular models for analysis of non-normal correlated data.

4. Developing Interdisciplinary Learning: Spanning Disciplinary and Organizational Boundaries

Abstract

Based on a study of a postgraduate course, we show how--through the processes associated with applying a strategic tool--students developed the understandings that allowed them to span disciplinary and organizational boundaries. We reveal how the students, working in groups and acting as consultants to industry clients, developed specific boundary-spanning skills learned through observation and practice (mimesis), and reflection. Namely, (1) working with others with different disciplines to establish roles and processes to operate successfully as a group, (2) establishing productive communication with other groups of diverse disciplines as part of project processes, (3) eliciting information from other groups of diverse specialists, and (4) managing an inclusive discussion process among other groups of diverse specialists for agreement. We discuss how these insights about mimesis and reflection add to pedagogic debates about instruction for interdisciplinary and inter-organizational learning and the implications for management education and development practice.

Abstract

We present details on a new measurement of the muon magnetic anomaly, $a_\mu = (g_\mu -2)/2$. The result is based on positive muon data taken at Fermilab's Muon Campus during the 2019 and 2020 accelerator runs. The measurement uses $3.1$ GeV$/c$ polarized muons stored in a $7.1$-m-radius storage ring with a $1.45$ T uniform magnetic field. The value of $ a_{\mu}$ is determined from the measured difference between the muon spin precession frequency and its cyclotron frequency. This difference is normalized to the strength of the magnetic field, measured using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The ratio is then corrected for small contributions from beam motion, beam dispersion, and transient magnetic fields. We measure $a_\mu = 116 592 057 (25) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.21 ppm). This is the world's most precise measurement of this quantity and represents a factor of $2.2$ improvement over our previous result based on the 2018 dataset. In combination, the two datasets yield $a_\mu(\text{FNAL}) = 116 592 055 (24) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.20 ppm). Abstract

The discovery of interstellar comet 2I/Borisov offered the unique opportunity to obtain a detailed analysis of an object coming from another planetary system, and leaving behind material in our interplanetary space. We continuously observed 2I/Borisov between October 3 and December 13, 2019 using the 1.52-m Telescopio Carlos S\'{a}nchez equipped with MuSCAT2 instrument, and the 2.54-m Isaac Newton Telescope with Wide Field Camera. We characterize its morphology and spectro-photometric features using the data gathered during this extended campaign. Simultaneous imaging in four bands ($g$, $r$, $i$, and $z_s$) reveals a homogeneous composition and a reddish hue, resembling Solar System comets, and as well a diffuse profile exhibiting familiar cometary traits. We discern a stationary trend fluctuating around a constant activity level throughout October and November 2019. Subsequently, a reduction in activity is observed in December. Dust production and mass loss calculations indicate approximately an average of 4 kg/s before perihelion, while after perihelion the net mass loss is about 0.6 kg/s. Our simulations indicate the most probable size of coma dust particles should be in the range 200-250 nm, and the terminal speed around 300 m/s. The spectrum acquired with the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope shows the presence of a strong CN line for which we find a gas production rate of $1.2 \times 10^{24}~s^{-1}$. We also detected NH$_2$ and OI bands. The ratio between NH$_2$ and CN productions is $\log (NH_2/CN) =-0.2$. Abstract

We present a physical model and spin-state analysis of the potentially hazardous asteroid (23187) 2000 PN9. As part of a long-term campaign to make direct detections of the YORP effect, we collected optical lightcurves of the asteroid between 2006 and 2020. These observations were combined with planetary radar data to develop a detailed shape model which was used to search for YORP acceleration. We report that 2000 PN9 is a relatively large top-shaped body with a sidereal rotation period of 2.53216$\pm$0.00015 h. Although we find no evidence for rotational acceleration, YORP torques smaller than $\sim$10$^{-8}$$\,\rm rad/day^{2}$ cannot be ruled out. It is likely that 2000 PN9 is a YORP-evolved object, and may be an example of YORP equilibrium or self limitation., Comment: Accepted for publication in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. Abstract

We present a new measurement of the positive muon magnetic anomaly, $a_\mu \equiv (g_\mu - 2)/2$, from the Fermilab Muon $g\!-\!2$ Experiment using data collected in 2019 and 2020. We have analyzed more than 4 times the number of positrons from muon decay than in our previous result from 2018 data. The systematic error is reduced by more than a factor of 2 due to better running conditions, a more stable beam, and improved knowledge of the magnetic field weighted by the muon distribution, $\tilde{\omega}'^{}_p$, and of the anomalous precession frequency corrected for beam dynamics effects, $\omega_a$. From the ratio $\omega_a / \tilde{\omega}'^{}_p$, together with precisely determined external parameters, we determine $a_\mu = 116\,592\,057(25) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.21 ppm). Combining this result with our previous result from the 2018 data, we obtain $a_\mu\text{(FNAL)} = 116\,592\,055(24) \times 10^{-11}$ (0.20 ppm). The new experimental world average is $a_\mu (\text{Exp}) = 116\,592\,059(22)\times 10^{-11}$ (0.19 ppm), which represents a factor of 2 improvement in precision., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

Watercress (Nasturtium officinale R. Br.; Brassicaceae) is a highly nutritious leafy green vegetable consumed globally, with a rich health-related phytonutrient profile that includes the secondary plant metabolites glucosinolates (GLS), especially gluconasturtiin and its hydrolysis product phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC). The peppery taste and pungency of watercress comes from these mustard oils, and they are known to help reduce inflammation and chronic damage in cells and have been shown to have a role in cancer prevention in vitro and in vivo. We explored how both genotype and highly contrasting environments of California (CA) and the United Kingdom (UK) alter phenotypic traits for a set of F2:4 genotypes created from a unique bi-parental cross, chosen for their extreme phenotypes for yield, leaf and branch morphology, antioxidant capacity, and glucosinolate content in two contrasting field locations. Although both genotype and environment had a significant impact on plant morphology, nutritional quality, and yield, overall, the highly contrasting environments of California and the UK, had a much stronger effect. Plants grown in CA had higher biomass, thicker main stem and more branches, and a higher concentration of aromatic GLS, whilst plants grown in the UK had larger leaves with longer stems, suggesting a better harvestable product, at least for a salad and not a soup crop. Significant G x E interactions were observed for multiple traits, suggesting significant phenotypic plasticity of watercress and variation between genotypes that will enable the selection of ideotypes suitable for these highly contrasting growth environments, that can be considered as the ‘extremes’ of an environmental gradient where the crop might be grown, from the warm and dry soil-grown conditions of California to the relatively cool and wet aquatic growing system of the UK.

Objective: To examine the role of noninvasive testing (NIT) before invasive coronary angiography (ICA) by evaluating the association between a positive myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) or computed tomography angiography (CTA) result and the decision to perform coronary revascularization. Patients and Methods: We screened all patients who received ICA between August 1, 2015, and July 31, 2019, and identified those who received MPI or CTA within the preceding 12 months. We considered MPI to be a positive result if it found moderate or severe ischemia in a specific coronary territory and CTA to be a positive result if it identified a stenosis greater than 50% in any major coronary artery. Results: Of the 17,181 individual procedures, 2183 were included. Positive CTA had an odds ratio (OR) of 2.68 (95% CI, 1.82-3.94) for revascularization and positive MPI an OR of 1.29 (95% CI, 1.07-1.56). Overall sensitivity for CTA in the prediction of revascularization was 80.4% (95% CI, 75.7%-84.6%), with vessel-level sensitivity ranging from 57.3% (95% CI, 47.5%-66.7%) to 71.8% (95% CI, 65.8%-77.4%). Overall sensitivity of MPI was 48.2% (95% CI, 44.7%-51.7%), with territory-specific sensitivity ranging from 33.7% (95% CI, 29.9%-37.7%) to 36.5% (95% CI, 32.6%-40.6%). Overall specificity for CTA was low, at 39.5% (32.9%-46.3%), but higher when evaluating at the vessel level, ranging from 60.3% (95% CI, 54.5%-66.0%) to 83.5% (95% CI, 79.6%-86.9%). Overall specificity for MPI was 58.1% (95% CI, 54.9%-61.3%), with territory-specific specificity ranging from 78.6% (95% CI, 76.1%-80.9%) to 78.9% (95% CI, 76.5%-81.3%). Conclusion: In this population of patients referred for ICA, positive CTA was more closely associated with revascularization than MPI. Further studies are necessary to determine the role of NIT before ICA.

Abstract

Background: Up to 50% of patients undergoing mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (MTEER) have an indication for left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO). However, prospective evaluation of this strategy is lacking. Objectives: The aim of the study was to prospectively evaluate the outcomes of combined LAAO and MTEER. Methods: The WATCH-TEER study is a prospective multicenter registry that aims to assess the feasibility and safety of concomitant MTEER with MitraClip and LAAO with WATCHMAN-FLX in patients with an approved clinical indication for both procedures. The primary endpoint was a composite of all-cause mortality, stroke, life-threatening, or major bleeding at 45 days. Results: A total of 24 patients were included between October 2020 and March 2024. Mean age was 79.5 ± 6.3 years, and 83% were males. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons operative risk score was 11.8% ± 5.3%, the CHA2DS2-VASc score was 4.5 ± 1.1, and the HAS-BLED score was 3.3 ± 1.5. Total procedure time was 103.6 ± 33.7 minutes. At 45 days, the primary endpoint occurred in 21% (95% CI: 5%-37%, n = 5/24) of patients, all of which occurred after discharge including 1 cardiac death, 1 ischemic stroke, 1 trauma-related intracranial hemorrhage, and 2 nonprocedural major bleeds. At 45 days, most patients (68%) had ≤2+ mitral regurgitation, and 72% of patients were in NYHA functional class I-II symptoms. Additionally, 71% of patients were not on anticoagulation, compared with only 20% at baseline. Conclusions: Combining LAAO with MTEER is feasible in patients who have a clinical indication for both procedures.

Abstract

Abstract Background Hypoadrenocorticism in cats is uncommonly reported. Most reports consist of cats with hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, or both. Hypothesis/Objectives To describe clinical findings, treatment response, and outcome in cats diagnosed with hypoadrenocorticism, including cats with abnormal and normal serum sodium and potassium concentrations. Animals Forty‐one cats with hypoadrenocorticism; 36 with and 5 without abnormal serum sodium and potassium concentrations. Methods Multicenter retrospective observational study. Data for the entire cohort were assessed using descriptive statistics and differences between cats with and without abnormal serum sodium and potassium concentrations were evaluated. Results Median age was 5.7 years (range, 0.2‐13.8). Twenty‐three (56%) cats were male and 18 (44%) were female. Cats with hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, or both were less likely to have a history of vomiting (P = .01) but more likely to be hypothermic (P = .03), dehydrated (P = .04) or weak (P = .04) on examination, compared with nonhyponatremic and nonhyperkalemic cats. Frequency of hypercalcemia was 31.7%. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) was diagnosed in 4/7 cats tested; all 4 had concurrent cobalamin deficiency. Thirty‐five (85.4%) cats survived to discharge. In 2 cats, hypoadrenocorticism occurred secondary to lymphoma. Median survival time (MST) for all‐cause mortality was 2035 days (95% confidence interval [CI], 294‐4380 days); MST for disease‐specific mortality was not reached. Conclusions and Clinical Importance Approximately one‐third of cats with hypoadrenocorticism had hypercalcemia. In some cases, hyponatremia and hyperkalemia were not observed. Cats with nonneoplastic associated hypoadrenocorticism that survive initial hospitalization can have a favorable long‐term prognosis. Testing for EPI may be warranted in cats with hypoadrenocorticism.

Abstract

Summary: Background: Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a heterogeneous clinical syndrome, making it challenging to predict patient trajectory and response to treatment. This study aims to identify biological/molecular CS subphenotypes, evaluate their association with outcome, and explore their impact on heterogeneity of treatment effect (ShockCO-OP, NCT06376318). Methods: We used unsupervised clustering to integrate plasma biomarker data from two prospective cohorts of CS patients: CardShock (N = 205 [2010–2012, NCT01374867]) and the French and European Outcome reGistry in Intensive Care Units (FROG-ICU) (N = 228 [2011–2013, NCT01367093]) to determine the optimal number of classes. Thereafter, a simplified classifier (Euclidean distances) was used to assign the identified CS subphenotypes in three completed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) (OptimaCC, N = 57 [2011–2016, NCT01367743]; DOREMI, N = 192 [2017–2020, NCT03207165]; and CULPRIT-SHOCK, N = 434 [2013–2017, NCT01927549]) and explore heterogeneity of treatment effect with respect to 28-day mortality (primary outcome). Findings: Four biomarker-driven CS subphenotypes (‘adaptive’, ‘non-inflammatory’, ‘cardiopathic’, and ‘inflammatory’) were identified separately in the two cohorts. Patients in the inflammatory and cardiopathic subphenotypes had the highest 28-day mortality (p (log-rank test) = 0.0099 and 0.0055 in the CardShock and FROG-ICU cohorts, respectively). Subphenotype membership significantly improved risk stratification when added to traditional risk factors including the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) shock stages (increase in Harrell's C-index by 4% (p = 0.033) and 6% (p = 0.0068) respectively in the CardShock and the FROG-ICU cohorts). The simplified classifier identified CS subphenotypes with similar biological/molecular and outcome characteristics in the three independent RCTs. No significant interaction was observed between treatment effect and subphenotypes. Interpretation: Subphenotypes with the highest concentration of biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction and inflammation (inflammatory) or myocardial injury/fibrosis (cardiopathic) were associated with mortality independently from the SCAI shock stages. Abstract

We developed a realist program theory describing factors that affect healthcare professionals’ delivery of guideline-based pain care in rural Australia as part of a realist-informed needs assessment. To our knowledge, this project is the first to apply a realist research approach to conducting a needs assessment. We conducted and analysed realist informed teacher-learner cycle interviews with rural healthcare professionals to inform our program theory. In these interviews, we presented participants with a summary of guideline recommendations for the assessment and management of chronic pain. We asked participants which recommendations they found easy and challenging to implement in their local setting, and discussed why, how, and in what circumstances this was the case. We detail how we analysed interview transcripts retroductively in NVivo and how the authorship team abstracted from the clinical scenarios provided by interviewees to generate theories at a ‘middle level’ of abstraction. Our discussion details lessons learned from the utilised methods with recommendations for how we would adapt these methods in the future.

32. Reducing postoperative blood product usage and costs in cardiothoracic surgery: the implementation of a multispecialty perioperative care model incorporating a haemostasis checklist

Abstract

Transfusion of blood products following cardiothoracic surgery represents a significant proportion of national blood product usage, has significant cost implications and is associated with increased 30-day mortality. Following identification of an increase in blood product use, we implemented a healthcare improvement initiative using a perioperative care model and establishment of a new multispecialty cardiothoracic surgery taskforce to further define and tackle the problem. The initiative incorporated a bundle of preoperative identification of high-risk patients, an intraoperative haemostasis checklist, a programme of unit education focussing on bleeding postbypass and use of thromboelastography and introduction of postoperative protocols for identification and escalation of bleeding. Following intervention, a 60% reduction in blood product use within the first 12 hours of cardiopulmonary bypass was observed. Red cell, cryoprecipitate and fresh frozen plasma usage were particularly reduced with 57%, 47% and 72% reductions, respectively, following intervention and similar results were maintained on repeat audit 1-year postintervention, with on average 84 fewer blood products used per 100 patients. This resulted in an estimated cost saving of AU$36 928 per 100 patients. This quality initiative was successful in overcoming traditional silos of care and describes how quality improvement methodology utilising a multispecialty and multidisciplinary approach can be applied to solve complex issues in the perioperative period. Here, we demonstrate a reproducible and sustainable model for reducing blood product use in the cardiothoracic perioperative population.

Abstract

Introduction The quality and safety of care within residential aged care facilities (RACFs) have been linked to their organisational culture. However, evidence for understanding and improving culture in this setting is limited. This research programme aims to validate a survey to measure organisational culture and determine the relationship of culture with safety and quality of care, then to evaluate an organisational culture change programme in Australian RACFs.Methods and analysis This is a longitudinal mixed methods programme of research conducted across four studies in collaboration with a national aged care provider that cares for more than 5000 residents:Study 1: Cross-sectional staff survey of organisational culture in >50 RACFs with concurrent collection of data on quality and safety of care, and staff outcomes, to explore their associations with culture.Study 2: Ethnographic fieldwork in eight RACFs sampled to achieve maximum variation. Data from interviews, observations and documents will be analysed to identify the underlying assumptions and how cultural assumptions influence the enactment of safety and quality.Study 3: Evaluation of the implementation of the Speak Up for Safety culture change programme, focusing on its contextualisation for RACFs, implementation determinants and outcomes. Data will be collected through semistructured interviews, complimented with secondary data from program training and feedback system usage.Study 4: Evaluation of the effectiveness of the culture change programme using baseline data from study 1 and a follow-up survey of organisational culture postimplementation to assess changes in organisational culture and staff behaviour.Ethics and dissemination The study has received approval from the Macquarie University Human Research Ethics Committee. Informed consent will be sought from all participants. Findings will be disseminated through journal articles, conference presentations and reports to the collaborating provider and RACFs. Survey data will be deposited into a data repository for use by others working on related research.

37. Ecological Interchangeability: Supporting Team Adaptive Expertise in Moments of Disruption

Abstract

While undesirable, unexpected disruptions offer unique opportunities to enact adaptive expertise. For adaptive expertise to flourish, individuals and teams must embrace both efficiency and adaptation. While some industries do it readily, others continue to struggle with the tension between efficiency and adaptation, particularly when otherwise stable situations are unexpectedly disrupted. For instance, in healthcare settings, the efficiency mandate for strict compliance with scopes of practice can deter teams from using the adaptive strategy of making their members interchangeable. Yet, interchangeability has been hinted as a key capacity of today' teams that are required to navigate fluid team structures. Because interchangeability -- as an adaptive strategy -- can generate antagonistic reactions, it has not been well studied in fluid teams. Thus, in this exploratory qualitative study we sought to gain insights into how interchangeability manifests when fluid teams from five different contexts (healthcare, emergency services, orchestras, military, and business) deal with disruptive events. According to our participants, successful interchangeability was possible when people knew how to work within one's role while being aware of their teammates' roles. However, interchangeability included more than just role switching. Interchangeability took various forms and was most successful when teams capitalized on the procedural, emotional, and social dimensions of their work. To reflect this added complexity, we refer to interchangeability in fluid teams as Ecological Interchangeability. We suggest that ecological interchangeability may become a desired feature in the training of adaptive expertise in teams, if its underlying properties and enabling mechanisms are more fully understood.

Abstract

Watercress (Nasturtium officinale) is a nutrient-dense salad crop with high antioxidant capacity and glucosinolate concentration and with the potential to contribute to nutrient security as a locally grown outdoor aquatic crop in northern temperate climates. However, phosphate-based fertilizers used to support plant growth contribute to the eutrophication of aquatic habitats, often pristine chalk streams, downstream of farms, increasing pressure to minimize fertilizer use and develop a more phosphorus-use efficient (PUE) crop. Here, we grew genetically distinct watercress lines selected from a bi-parental mapping population on a commercial watercress farm either without additional phosphorus (P-) or under a commercial phosphate-based fertilizer regime (P+), to decipher effects on morphology, nutritional profile, and the transcriptome. Watercress plants sustained shoot yield in P- conditions, through enhanced root biomass, but with shorter stems and smaller leaves. Glucosinolate concentration was not affected by P- conditions, but both antioxidant capacity and the concentration of sugars and starch in shoot tissue were enhanced. We identified two watercress breeding lines, with contrasting strategies for enhanced PUE: line 60, with highly plastic root systems and increased root growth in P-, and line 102, maintaining high yield irrespective of P supply, but less plastic. RNA-seq analysis revealed a suite of genes involved in cell membrane remodeling, root development, suberization, and phosphate transport as potential future breeding targets for enhanced PUE. We identified watercress gene targets for enhanced PUE for future biotechnological and breeding approaches enabling less fertilizer inputs and reduced environmental damage from watercress cultivation.

45. The Impact of Dexamphetamine Treatment for Obesity on Executive Function: A Double-Blind Randomised Controlled Pilot Study

Abstract

Background: Amphetamines increase dopamine levels in mid-brain regions which, in turn, impact top-down executive function. Repeated exposure is linked to substance use disorders. Nonetheless, amphetamines are used to manage attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and eating-related disorders. In ADHD, amphetamines upregulate a system characterised by low dopaminergic tone, assisting to improve executive function. A similar process might be at play with eating disorders; however, the effect of amphetamine treatment on executive function in this case has not been thoroughly considered. Methods: Participants (N = 52, Mage = 47.06, SD = 12.29) with a body mass index of 25–60 were randomised to treatment (6-week dexamphetamine titration) or control (placebo) groups. They completed an executive function measure—Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS-SF)—and response inhibition task—Stop-Signal Task (SST)—at Baseline, throughout titration, at Maintenance, and at Follow-up. Mixed effects models examined whether BDEFS-SF score or the SST variable, stop-signal reaction time (SSRT), changed across sessions as a function of treatment. Results: There was no effect of group (p = 0.440), but an effect of session (p = 0.024) on BDEFS-SF, with scores at Time 2 (p = 0.011, 95% CI [0.47, 3.49]) and Maintenance (p = 0.022, 95% CI [−4.89, −0.39]), respectively, higher and lower than other timepoints. There was no group by session interaction (p = 0.659). R2 (conditional) = 0.74; ICC = 0.73. There was an effect of group (p = 0.039) and session (p < 0.001) on SSRT, but no interaction (p = 0.707). Baseline SSRT was significantly longer than the mean of all subsequent timepoints (p < 0.001, 95% CI [16.29, 33.84]). R2 (conditional) = 0.47; ICC = 0.39. Conclusions: There was no discernible impact of amphetamine treatment for obesity on executive function. Our results suggest some variation related to sample size and/or practice effects. Thus, while treatment appears unlikely to render individuals susceptible to substance use disorders, parallels with ADHD might be overstated.
