Abstract: Understanding how adolescents integrate multiple cultures into their identity is a growing field of research in modern multicultural societies and requires psychometrically sound assessments tools. The Bicultural Identity Integration framework together with the Bicultural Identity Integration Scale 2 (BIIS-2; Huynh et al., 2018) offers an instrument that allows assessing BII with two factors (Blendedness vs. Compartmentalization and Harmony vs. Conflict). However, the psychometric properties of the BIIS-2 remain inconclusive for multicultural youth in Germany. To address this gap, we examined the psychometric properties of the BIIS-2 in a sample comprising 595 diverse ethnic minority adolescents in Germany (Mage = 13.26, SD = 1.3; 45.6% female). Contrary to the proposed two-factor structure (Huynh et al., 2018), our findings provide evidence for a four-factor structure (Blendedness, Compartmentalization, Harmony, and Conflict) which is also supported through unique associations in validation results.

ABSTRACT When the premise is the best final use of wood, evaluation of anatomical variables is recommended, bearing in mind that they are correlated with the properties of this material. The present study aimed to evaluate the correlation between anatomy and the physical properties of wood from Parapiptadenia rigida (Benth.) Brenan, Peltophorum dubium (Spreng.) Taub., Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill × Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake (hybrid) and Schizolobium parahyba (Vell.) Blake, from an agroforestry system. For this purpose, five trees of each species, aged 9 years old, were selected, and samples were collected from the diameter at 1.30 m height from the ground for analysis of the anatomical characteristics and physical properties of the wood. Anatomical variables, with the exception of fiber length and cell wall thickness, correlated with the physical properties of wood and influenced their values. The higher the cell wall fraction (0.79), vessel frequency (0.44) and ray frequency (0.92), the greater the basic density of the wood. The greater the fiber diameter (0.94), lumen diameter (0.88), vessel diameter (0.88), ray height (0.86) and ray width (0.84), the higher the moisture content of the wood.

Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) promises to be the next revolutionary step in modern society. Yet, its role in all fields of industry and science need to be determined. One very promising field is represented by AI‐based decision‐making tools in clinical oncology leading to more comprehensive, personalized therapy approaches. In this review, the authors provide an overview on all relevant technical applications of AI in oncology, which are required to understand the future challenges and realistic perspectives for decision‐making tools. In recent years, various applications of AI in medicine have been developed focusing on the analysis of radiological and pathological images. AI applications encompass large amounts of complex data supporting clinical decision‐making and reducing errors by objectively quantifying all aspects of the data collected. In clinical oncology, almost all patients receive a treatment recommendation in a multidisciplinary cancer conference at the beginning and during their treatment periods. These highly complex decisions are based on a large amount of information (of the patients and of the various treatment options), which need to be analyzed and correctly classified in a short time. In this review, the authors describe the technical and medical requirements of AI to address these scientific challenges in a multidisciplinary manner. Major challenges in the use of AI in oncology and decision‐making tools are data security, data representation, and explainability of AI‐based outcome predictions, in particular for decision‐making processes in multidisciplinary cancer conferences. Finally, limitations and potential solutions are described and compared for current and future research attempts.

Respiratory viral infections may have different impacts ranging from infection without symptoms to severe disease or even death though the reasons are not well characterized.A patient (age group 5–15 years) displaying symptoms of hemolytic uremic syndrome died one day after hospitalization. qPCR, next generation sequencing, virus isolation, antigenic characterization, resistance analysis was performed and virus replication kinetics in well-differentiated airway cells were determined.Autopsy revealed hemorrhagic pneumonia as major pathological manifestation. Lung samples harbored a large population of A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses with the polymorphism H456H/Y in PB1 polymerase. The H456H/Y viruses replicated much faster to high viral titers than upper respiratory tract viruses in vitro. H456H/Y-infected air-liquid interface cultures of differentiated airway epithelial cells did reflect a more pronounced loss of ciliated cells. A different pattern of virus quasispecies was found in the upper airway samples where substitution S263S/F (HA1) was observed.The data support the notion that viral quasispecies had evolved locally in the lung to support high replicative fitness. This change may have initiated further pathogenic processes leading to rapid dissemination of inflammatory mediators followed by development of hemorrhagic lung lesions and fatal outcome.

The unexpected emergence of oseltamivir-resistant A(H1N1) viruses in 2008 was facilitated in part by the establishment of permissive secondary neuraminidase (NA) substitutions that compensated for the fitness loss due to the NA-H275Y resistance substitution. These viruses were replaced in 2009 by oseltamivir-susceptible A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza viruses. Genetic analysis and screening of A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses circulating in Germany between 2009 and 2024 were conducted to identify any potentially synergistic or resistance-associated NA substitutions. Selected viruses were then subjected to further characterization in vitro. In the NA gene of circulating A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses, two secondary substitutions, NA-V241I and NA-N369K, were identified. These substitutions demonstrated a stable lineage in phylogenetic analysis since the 2010–2011 influenza season. The data indicate a slight increase in viral NA bearing two additional potentially synergistic substitutions, NA-I223V and NA-S247N, in the 2023–2024 season, which both result in a slight reduction in susceptibility to NA inhibitors. The accumulation of secondary synergistic substitutions in the NA of A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses increases the probability of the emergence of antiviral-resistant viruses. Therefore, it is crucial to closely monitor the evolution of circulating influenza viruses and to develop additional antiviral drugs against different target proteins.

ABSTRACT: Wood is an organic material and its energetic and physical properties are related to its chemical and anatomical constituents. This study evaluated the influence of the chemical constituents on the energetic and physical properties of Parapiptadeniarigida(Benth.) Brenan, Peltophorumdubium(Spreng.) Taub.,Eucalyptus grandisW. Hill × Eucalyptus urophyllaS.T. Blake (hybrid), and Schizolobiumparahyba(Vell.) Blake an agroforestry system. Five trees of each species aged 9 years were sampled. Samples were collected at a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 1.30 m above the ground and were used to analyze the chemical, energetic, and physical properties of the wood. Chemical properties influence the energetic and physical properties of wood. We reported that the higher the lignin content in the wood, the greater the correlation with the fixed carbon content (0.76) and gross calorific value (0.65). High values of fixed carbon content increased the basic density of the wood (0.80). In contrast, the lower the lignin content in the wood, the greater the correlation with the extractive content (-0.76) and volatile material content (-0.74), and the higher the volatile material content, the lower the fixed carbon content (-0.98) and gross calorific value (-0.74).

IntroductionUnderstanding tumor localization in multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) of the prostate is challenging for urologists but of great importance in mpMRI-fused prostate biopsy or radical prostatectomy. The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of 3D printed models of the prostate to help urologists to locate tumors.Methods and Participants20 urologists from University Medical Center Mainz (Germany) were asked to plot the location of a cancer suspicious lesion (PI-RADS ≥ 4) on a total of 30 mpMRI on a prostate sector diagram. The following 3 groups (as matched triplets) were divided into: mpMRI only, mpMRI with radiological report and mpMRI with 3D printed model (scaled 1:1).
