Taking the nonextensive Tsallis and R\'enyi entropies into account, we explore thermodynamic properties and phase transitions of the Kerr-Newman black holes (KNBH) in the microcanonical and canonical ensembles. We also compare our results with those obtained by attributing the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy bound to the mentioned black holes. Our analysis indicates that, similarly to the standard Boltzmann picture, isolated KNBH in the microcanonical approach are stable against axisymmetric perturbations in both Tsallis and R\'enyi models. On the other hand, in considering the case when the black holes are enveloped by a bath of thermal radiation in the canonical treatment, the KNBH based on the Tsallis and R\'enyi entropies can be stable for some values of the entropy parameters, in contrast to the traditional Boltzmann framework. For the case of R\'enyi entropy, we find that a Hawking-Page transition and a first order small black hole/large black hole transition can occur in a similar fashion as in rotating black holes in an anti-de Sitter space. Finally, we employ the Ruppeneir geometrothermodynamic technique to provide a new perspective on studying the nature of interactions between black hole microstructures, revealing a non-trivial impact of nonextensive entropies., Comment: 15 pages, 17 figures

An analytical model of a parabolic screen illuminating a black hole is proposed. This allows to avoid naturally the appearance of edge effects associated with photons moving along the plane of the screen. The temperature distribution along the radius of the screen corresponds to that for a relativistic disk (Novikov-Thorne disk). It is shown that the structure of the emerging black hole shadow differs significantly from the case when the photon source is a remote screen, since in the model considered, the photons subjected to strong gravitational lensing of the black hole are emitted by the "back side" of the screen, which would not be visible in the absence of a black hole. In the thin screen approximation, the shadow of a Schwarzschild black hole has been constructed in cases when the angle between the axis of symmetry of the illuminating screen and the direction towards the observer is 5, 30, 60, and 80 degrees. In [5], Bray and Khuri proposed coupling the generalized Jang equation to several different auxiliary equations. The solutions to these coupled systems would then imply the Penrose inequality. One of these involves coupling the generalized Jang equation to $\overline{div}(\phi q)=0$, as this would guarantee the non-negativity of the scalar curvature in the Jang surface. This coupled system of equations has not received much attention, and we investigate it's solvability. We prove that there exists a spherically symmetric initial data set for the Einstein equations for which there do not exist smooth radial solutions to the system having the appropriate asymptotics for application to the Penrose inequality.

According to some quantum gravity models, Lorentz invariance can be violated in the Planck energy scale. With this motivation, we analyze the thermal quantities and the stability of Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by quintessence in gravity's rainbow formalism. To do that, we consider the rainbow functions which are motivated by loop quantum gravity and gamma-ray bursts, and we derive Hawking temperature, specific heat, entropy and the equation of state function. In this manuscript, we investigate the effects of a modified dispersion relation on the thermodynamics of Schwarzschild black hole surrounded by the quintessence matter. We find that the MDR-correction states the same lower bound on the horizon, while the quintessence matter specifies the upper bound to the horizon depending on the state parameter. Due to MDR-correction and quintessence matter presence, we observe modifications in equation of state and specific heat functions of black hole. We show that a remnant can occur according to quintessence matter, and the black hole's stability depends only on the modified dispersion relation., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures

Supplementing earlier literature by e.g. Tipler, Clarke, & Ellis (1980), Israel (1987), Thorne, (1994), Earman (1999), Senovilla & Garfinkle (2015), Curiel (2019ab), and Landsman (2021ab), I provide a historical and conceptual analysis of Penrose's path-breaking 1965 singularity (or incompleteness) theorem. The emphasis is on the nature and historical origin of the assumptions and definitions used in-or otherwise relevant to-the theorem, as well as on the discrepancy between the (astro)physical goals of the theorem and its actual content: even if its assumptions are met, the theorem fails to prove the existence or formation of black holes.Penrose himself was well aware of this gap, which he subsequently tried to overcome with his visionary and influential cosmic censorship conjectures. We present a novel formulation of the Kerr spacetime solution, based on the Lema\^itre coordinates. Such an approach allows one to avoid the coordinate singularities of the Boyer-Lindquist metric, thus offering the possibility to explore in some detail the Kerr physics near and beyond the event horizon, adopting the point of view of a freely falling observer, whose adapted tetrad is moreover proven to be Fermi-Walker transported. We use the Lema\^itre form of the Kerr metric discussing the motion of radial photons close to the Cauchy horizon, also showing that their behaviour fairly agrees with other similar results presented in the literature. Being synchronous, the Lema\^itre form of the Kerr metric allows a Hamiltonian formulation of a quantum field theory nearby and beyond the Kerr event horizon. This could provide a further tool in the investigation of the intriguing issue concerning the Cauchy horizon (in)stability., Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures

We report on the Insight-HXMT observations of the new black hole X-ray binary MAXI J1820+070 during its 2018 outburst. Detailed spectral analysis via the continuum fitting method shows an evolution of the inferred spin during its high soft sate. Moreover, the hardness ratio, the non-thermal luminosity and the reflection fraction also undergo an evolution, exactly coincident to the period when the inferred spin transition takes place. The unphysical evolution of the spin is attributed to the evolution of the inner disc, which is caused by the collapse of a hot corona due to condensation mechanism or may be related to the deceleration of a jet-like corona. The studies of the inner disc radius and the relation between the disc luminosity and the inner disc radius suggest that, only at a particular epoch, did the inner edge of the disc reach the innermost stable circular orbit and the spin measurement is reliable. We then constrain the spin of MAXI J1820+070 to be a*=0.2^{+0.2}_{-0.3}. Such a slowly spinning black hole possessing a strong jet suggests that its jet activity is driven mainly by the accretion disc rather than by the black hole spin., Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures, 5 tables, accepted for publication in MNRAS

Recently, some authors have considered the quantum spectrum of black holes . This consideration is extended to tachyonic black holes in a brane-anti-brane system. In this study, black holes are constructed from two branes which are connected by a tachyonic tube. As the branes come closer to each other, they evolve and make a transition to thermal black branes. It will be shown that the spectrum of these black holes depends on the tachonic potential and the separation distance between the branes. By decreasing the separation distance, more energy emerges and the spectrum of the black hole increases., Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure

We present spherically symmetric solutions to Einstein's equations which are equivalent to canonical Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom black holes on the exterior, but with singular (Planck-density) shells at their respective event and inner horizons. The locally measured mass of the shell and the singularity are much larger than the asymptotic ADM mass. The area of the shell is equal to that of the corresponding canonical black hole, but the physical distance from the shell to the singularity is a Planck length, suggesting a natural explanation for the scaling of the black hole entropy with area. The existence of such singular shells enables solutions to the black hole information problem of Schwarzschild black holes and the Cauchy horizon problem of Reissner-Nordstrom black holes. While we cannot rigorously address the formation of these solutions, we suggest plausibility arguments for how normal black hole solutions may evolve into such states. We also comment on the possibility of negative mass Schwarzschild solutions that could be constructed using our methods. Requirements for the non-existence of negative-mass solutions may put restrictions on the types of singularities allowed in an ultraviolet theory of gravity., Comment: 16 pages, 2 figures

This second part of the series treats spin $\pm2$ components (or extreme components), that satisfy the Teukolsky master equation, of the linearized gravity in the exterior of a slowly rotating Kerr black hole. For each of these two components, after performing a first-order differential operator once and twice, the resulting equations together with the Teukolsky master equation itself constitute a linear spin-weighted wave system. An energy and Morawetz estimate for spin $\pm 2$ components is proved by treating this system. The energy-momentum of a new four-dimensional, charged, spherically symmetric and nonsingular black hole solution constructed in the context of general relativity coupled to a theory of nonlinear electrodynamics is investigated, whereby the nonlinear mass function is inspired by the probability density function of the continuous logistic distribution. The energy and momentum distributions are calculated by use of the Einstein, Landau-Lifshitz, Weinberg and M{\o}ller energy-momentum complexes. In all these prescriptions it is found that the energy distribution depends on the mass $M$ and the charge $q$ of the black hole, an additional parameter $\beta$ coming from the gravitational background considered, and on the radial coordinate $r$. Further, the Landau-Lifshitz and Weinberg prescriptions yield the same result for the energy, while in all the aforesaid prescriptions all the momenta vanish. We also focus on the study of the limiting behavior of the energy for different values of the radial coordinate, the parameter $\beta$, and the charge $q$. This first part of the series treats the Maxwell equations in the exterior of a slowly rotating Kerr black hole. By performing a first-order differential operator on each extreme Newman-Penrose (N-P) scalar in a Kinnersley tetrad, the resulting equation and the Teukolsky master equation for the extreme N-P component are both in the form of an inhomogeneous \textquotedblleft{spin-weighted Fackerell-Ipser equation\textquotedblright} (SWFIE) and constitute a weakly coupled system. We first prove energy estimate and integrated local energy decay (Morawetz) estimate for this type of inhomogeneous SWFIE following the method in (Dafermos and Rodnianski in Decay for solutions of the wave equation on Kerr exterior spacetimes I-II: the cases $|a|\ll M$ or axisymmetry, 2010, arXiv:1010.5132), and then utilize these estimates to achieve both a uniform bound of a positive definite energy and a Morawetz estimate for the coupled system of each extreme N-P component. The same type of estimates for the regular extreme N-P components defined in the regular Hawking-Hartle tetrad is also proved. The black hole information paradox presumes that quantum field theory in curved spacetime can provide unitary propagation from a near-horizon mode to an asymptotic Hawking quantum. Instead of invoking conjectural quantum gravity effects to modify such an assumption, we propose a self-consistency check. We establish an analogy to Feynman's analysis of a double-slit experiment. Feynman showed that unitary propagation of the interfering particles, namely ignoring the entanglement with the double-slit, becomes an arbitrarily reliable assumption when the screen upon which the interference pattern is projected is infinitely far away. We argue for an analogous self-consistency check for quantum field theory in curved spacetime. We apply it to the propagation of Hawking quanta and test whether ignoring the entanglement with the geometry also becomes arbitrarily reliable in the limit of a large black hole. We present curious results to suggest a negative answer, and we discuss how this loss of naive unitarity in QFT might be related to a solution of the paradox based on the soft-hair-memory effect.

A generalization of the mode stability result of Whiting (1989) for the Teukolsky equation is proved for the case of real frequencies. The main result of the paper states that a separated solution of the Teukolsky equation governing massless test fields on the Kerr spacetime, which is purely outgoing at infinity, and purely ingoing at the horizon, must vanish. This has the consequence, that for real frequencies, there are linearly independent fundamental solutions of the radial Teukolsky equation which are purely ingoing at the horizon, and purely outgoing at infinity, respectively. For charged black holes in Horava-Lifshitz gravity, a second order phase transition takes place in extended phase space where the cosmological constant is taken as thermodynamic pressure. We relate the second order nature of phase transition to the fact that the phase transition occurs at a sharp temperature and not over a temperature interval. Once we know the continuity of the first derivatives of the Gibbs free energy, we show that all the Ehrenfest equations are readily satisfied. We study the effect of the perturbation of the cosmological constant as well as the perturbation of the electric charge on thermodynamic stability of Horava-Lifshitz black hole. We also use thermodynamic geometry to study phase transition in extended phase space. We investigate the behavior of scalar curvature of Weinhold, Ruppeiner, and Quevedo metric in extended phase space of charged Horava-Lifshitz black holes. We argue that the formation of a Schwarzschild black hole via Datt-Oppenheimer-Snyder type gravitational collapse must be accompanied by a change in topology upon formation of the event horizon which physically separates matter in the interior from that of the exterior. While it is true that collapsing matter crossing the event horizon continues to fall towards the singularity of the Schwarzschild interior, this region does not in fact contain the matter originally responsible for the collapse. Rather, the latter occupies a distinct internal spacetime region with its own independent evolution. The existence of this additional component of the simplest black hole has a number of profound implications - Schwarzschild black holes are stable with constant mass; they each contain a self-contained mini-universe within their event horizons; and they live within a spacetime that is inherently double-sheeted., Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure. De Sitter Quantum Gravity is a Yang-Mills theory based on the de Sitter or SO(4,1) group and a promising candidate for a quantum theory of gravity. In this paper, an exact, static, spherically symmetric solution of the classical equations is derived. I show that when the Schwarzchild radius to distance ratio is at post-Newtonian order the theory agrees with general relativity for all parameters but that, once the ratio becomes closer to unity, they differ. At the Schwarzchild radius from a black hole singularity, general relativity predicts an event horizon, which has become a controversial topic in quantum gravity because of information preservation issues. In the De Sitter theory I show, however, that time-like escape paths exist for any mass black hole until the singularity itself is reached. Since an event horizon has never been directly observed and there is currently no observation on which the two theories disagree, this provides a powerful test of the De Sitter theory., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures

Repulsive gravity is not very popular in physics. However, one comes across it in at least two main occurrences in general relativity: in the negative-$r$ region of Kerr spacetime, and as the result of the gravitational interaction between matter and antimatter, when the latter is assumed to be CPT-transformed matter. Here we show how these two independent developments of general relativity are perfectly consistent in predicting gravitational repulsion and how the above Kerr negative-$r$ region can be interpreted as the habitat of antimatter. As a consequence, matter particles traveling along vortical geodesics can pass through the throat of a rotating black hole and emerge as antimatter particles (and vice versa). In this paper we present a simple but non-simplistic model of gravitational collapse with thermal emission of pre-Hawking radiation. We apply Einstein equations to a time-dependant spherically symmetric metric and an ultrarelativistic stress-energy tensor. Motivated by possible existence of stringy axions with ultralight mass, we study the behavior of an axion field around a rapidly rotating black hole (BH) obeying the sine-Gordon equation by numerical simulations. Due to superradiant instability, the axion field extracts the rotational energy of the BH and the nonlinear self-interaction becomes important as the field grows larger. We present clear numerical evidences that the nonlinear effect leads to a collapse of the axion cloud and a subsequent explosive phenomena, which is analogous to the "bosenova" observed in experiments of Bose-Einstein condensate. The criterion for the onset of the bosenova collapse is given. We also discuss the reason why the bosenova happens by constructing an effective theory of a wavepacket model under the nonrelativistic approximation., Comment: 38 pages, 18 figures
