The Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Water Electrolyser (PEMWE) has gained significant interest among various electrolysis methods due to its ability to produce highly purified, compressed hydrogen. The spatial configuration of bipolar plates and their flow channel patterns play a critical role in the efficiency and longevity of the PEM water electrolyser. Optimally designed flow channels ensure uniform pressure and velocity distribution across the stack, enabling high-pressure operation and facilitating high current densities. This study uses flow channel geometry inspired by authentic vine leaf patterns found in biomass, based on various plant leaves, including Soybean, Victoria Amazonica, Water Lily, Nelumbo Nucifera, Kiwi, and Acalypha Hispida leaves, as a novel channel pattern to design a PEM bipolar plate with a circular cross-section area of 13.85 c m 2 . The proposed bipolar design is further analysed with COMSOL Multiphysics to integrate the conservation of mass and momentum, molecular diffusion (Maxwell–Stefan), charge transfer equations, and other fabrication factors into a cohesive single-domain model. The simulation results showed that the novel designs have the most uniform velocity profile, lower pressure drop, superior pressure distribution, and heightened mixture homogeneity compared to the traditional serpentine models. Research into teachers' concepts and changes over time in digital technologies is crucial for gaining insights into the factors that shape teachers' concepts of technologies and influence their use in the classroom. Numerous studies have indicated that the use of 3D modelling and printing (3DMP) contributes to the modernization of teaching and the achievement of student learning outcomes. Using a three-wave longitudinal study with the application of conceptual metaphors as a theoretical background, this study tracks teachers' concepts of 3DMP after training, three months, and after one year of teaching experience and provides insight into this area. The data for the study was collected from 74 secondary teachers and processed using a mixed-methods research approach. The findings show that as teachers gain experience, their views on using 3DMP in education evolve. The results include a shift in their perception of digital reliance, the pedagogical benefits, the potential for creative expression, and the sensitivity of 3D printing. The findings of our study suggest that teachers need continuous technical support at the beginning of their use of 3DMP in the classroom, so that the application of this technology can successfully contribute to the development of student creativity and knowledge. This research emphasizes the need for comprehensive ongoing support and targeted training to enable teachers to effectively integrate 3DMP into educational practices, while fostering creativity and addressing technical complexities. Furthermore, this research sheds light on teachers' views of 3DMP and has implications for developments in teacher training and courses, the 3DMP platform, software development, education policy, and the 3DMP industry. Nowadays, both process data management and numerical analysis are necessary for decision‐making in a tunnel project from its early design stage to the construction phase. Traditional generation of simulation models largely depends on tunnel design and reports, which are error prone due to the involvement of manual intervention. This article presents the application of a digital workflow to efficiently transfer automatically acquired data from tunnel projects to computational simulations. The application workflow is developed and executed through a web‐based environment. Project data from the Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel is retrieved from the process controlling software PROCON via web services to generate numerical simulations for settlement predictions at different tunnel sections. The simulated results are validated using real measured settlements in the project to prove the quality of the simulation model. Different scenarios of applying operational steering parameters are then investigated, utilising the simulation model, which can be used to support the on‐site engineers as an assistance system to drive the tunnel boring machines. The work has been carried out within the framework of the transfer project T2 of the Collaborative Research Center "Interaction Modeling in Mechanized Tunneling" (SFB 837), which aims to implement and test a digital twin for process control under practical conditions in the tunnelling industry. This research aims to identify the principles of designing the objects of the inclusive environment with the employment of additive manufacturing technologies, and to discover methods and techniques for creating an inclusive objective environment using the example of our own development. The results of the survey, which has been directed to investigate the topicality of the problem of inclusiveness in Ukraine and the means of its solution, are presented in the article. In the course of work, the principal peculiarities of three-dimensional (3D) modelling and printing technologies have been established, and promising areas of their application have been proposed. The principles of designing an inclusive objective environment have been detected with the use of photogrammetry and 3D printing, due to which the model can be constructed by considering a person's individual physical characteristics. Moreover, due to the wide range of materials for 3D printing, various types of objects can be realized. It gives great potential for the employment of 3D printing when designing an inclusive environment and considerably simplifies the manufacturing process while taking the individual characteristics of every person into consideration. Cultural heritage is no longer something that can only be experienced in a museum exhibition. Digital tools have facilitated the distribution of material relating to artefacts, both in its representation and in presenting its context. This paper describes how digital modelling techniques can be synthesised with 3D scanning to digitally restore artefacts and create authentic replicas of their original states. The digital artefacts can then be used to assist the process of interpreting these artefacts in diverse forms, both in the museum and outside the museum. The study looks at Pictish sculpture as a case-study, restoring 3D models of two stones, and creating varying opportunities for their interpretation. As part of this study, new interactive tools, a virtual reality environment, and a virtual tour are built to assist immersive interpretation of the Pictish sculpture. The application of these digitised objects serves as an opportunity for informal learning. These applications were evaluated during a drop-in session. Findings show that all participants enjoyed the immersive mode of learning with 89% also showing a willingness to learn more about the topic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The spread of new survey strategies for the documentation and 3D reconstruction of complex cultural heritage sites enables the implementation of virtual web navigation systems that are useful for their virtual fruition. In particular, remote indoor/outdoor exploration enhances our knowledge of cultural heritage sites, even in inaccessible or difficult-to-visit states. However, the 3D data acquisition of complex sites for documentation remains a challenge, and the 3D virtual exploration of these datasets is often limited to property software implementations. This work describes the 3D documentation and construction of an indoor/outdoor web visualization system based on the WebGL open-source technology of a complex cultural heritage site. The case study regards the complex of "Santa Maria della Grotta" in Marsala (Italy), which is composed of a church that is located mostly underground and is connected to a human-dug hypogea on the site of a Punic necropolis. The aim of the work was to obtain detailed 3D documentation of the indoor and outdoor spaces through the integration of mobile laser scanning and aerial photogrammetry survey, and to develop a virtual web navigation system for the remote exploration of the site. The indoor/outdoor web navigation system provides users with a simple, web-browser-based 3D visualization, enabling the dissemination of the monuments' knowledge on the web through an economically sustainable solution based on open-source technologies. With the rapid development of the transient electromagnetic method (TEM), the numerical simulations of three-dimensional anisotropic media have garnered attention. This study used the rational Krylov method to realise the three-dimensional modelling of the ground magnetic-source airborne transient electromagnetic data for arbitrary anisotropic media. First, based on Maxwell's equations, a time-domain electromagnetic equation was derived for anisotropic media. The finite difference method was employed to discretise the equation, and the electromagnetic field was then expressed as the product of an exponential matrix and a vector related to the source. Subsequently, the rational Arnoldi algorithm was adopted to construct the rational Krylov subspace orthogonal basis vectors, and the electromagnetic fields at different times were obtained based on a model reduction strategy. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm was verified through the comparisons of its results with those of other software packages. We calculated the response for different anisotropic parameters of the typical three-dimensional anisotropic models, and analysed the influence of the anisotropic media on the ground magnetic-source airborne transient electromagnetic data. The proposed three-dimensional forward TEM algorithm provides important technical support for identifying the anisotropic geological bodies and lays the foundation for further inversion research. In this study, a recently developed time-domain electromagnetic method called the short-offset grounded-wire transient electromagnetic (SOTEM) method, which is a near-source observation method, was adopted to obtain strong signals and great detection depths. The responses of the SOTEM and long-offset transient electromagnetic (LOTEM) methods were compared to further guide and promote the SOTEM method. Currently, the comparison between SOTEM and LOTEM methods is primarily based on one-dimensional (1D) models. However, most geological bodies are three-dimensional (3D) structures. We investigated the responses of a grounded-wire transient electromagnetic method based on 3D models using the 3D finite-difference time-domain method. In addition, the signal strengths, detection sensitivities and detection depths of the SOTEM and LOTEM methods were compared. The results revealed that the field amplitudes of Ex (electrical component parallel to the transmitting source) and ∂By/∂t (magnetic component perpendicular to the transmitting source horizontally) were higher at the short offsets than at the long offsets. For the ∂Bx/∂t (magnetic component parallel to the transmitting source) and the vertical magnetic component ∂Bz/∂t, at initial times, the responses received would be stronger when closer to the transmitting source, whereas at later times, the responses would be stronger when farther from the source. Ex detection sensitivity increased with an increase in the offset at initial times, and increased with a decrease in the offset at later times. The detection sensitivities of the three magnetic field components at short offsets were higher than those at long offsets. The ∂By/∂t effective detection depth was the greatest. Generally, the effective detection depths of the three magnetic field components increased with decreasing offset. The range of the ratio of the horizontal distance, r, between the transmitting source and the target body to the effective detection depth H was 0.5-1.1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Medical imaging is a valuable source for facilitating empirical research and provides an accessible gateway for developing novel forensic anthropological methods for analysis including 3D modelling. This is especially critical for the United Kingdom (UK), where methods developed from modern UK populations do not currently exist. This study introduces a new approach to assist in human identification using 3D models of the paranasal sinuses. The models were produced from a database of 500 modern CT scans provided by University College London Hospital. Linear measurements and elliptic Fourier coefficients taken from 1500 three-dimensional models across six ethnic groups assessed by one-way ANOVA and discriminant function analysis showed a range of classification rates with certain rates reaching 75–85.7% (p < 0.05) in correctly classifying age and sex according to size and shape. The findings offer insights into the potential for employing paranasal sinuses as an attribute for establishing the identification of unknown human remains in future crime reconstructions. The automated design issues of modular spindle heads for multi-operational metalcutting machines are considered. An option for expanding technological capabilities through the use of forming units with vertical and horizontal arrangement in the space of the machine working area is given. A 3D project for the drive of the machine's main movement with a built-in horizontal spindle head and replaceable vertical and slotting spindle heads has been developed. In the process of modelling complex drive housing parts and replaceable heads, Creo Parametric CAD functionality was developed. These functionalities with the procedure for interconnecting the three-dimensional design model and the manufactured casting mold are associated. The implementation of this procedure using the example of creating a structural element - a "Casting draft angle" in the housing part manufacturing of a slotting head is presented. The "Mechanism Design" module of the Creo Parametric CAD system models the rack-and-pinion transmission as the translationally moving link intended for processing grooves, blind-shaped surfaces, and internal cavities is used. Ways to improve the design of the rack-and-pinion gear are outlined. The main innovative idea of the rack tooth profile in the form of an arched shape is presentation. Primary analytical dependencies for a complex geometric-kinematic analysis of a rack-and-pinion transmission with arched teeth were obtained. The relationship between transmission parameters and the maximum size of the gear-cutting head has been established. A condition to guarantee the absence of secondary cutting using a gear-cutting head has been introduced. The value of the coefficient KL = 1.13 as an indicator of a decrease in bending stress and, as a consequence, an increase in the load capacity of arched teeth in comparison with straight rack and pinion teeth, all other things being equal is determined. Mineral deposits are commonly associated with and hosted in volcanic successions. Volcanic facies analysis as applied in mineral exploration is powerful for characterising host stratigraphy to understand volcanological and eruption processes, depositional setting, and tectonic processes before, during and after ore-forming events. However, the specialist experience required in studying ancient, deformed successions impedes the uptake of facies analysis as a routinely applied technique in mineral exploration. This challenge is reflected in the literature with a paucity of examples where 3D models are developed directly from facies analysis and is worth addressing, as stratigraphic approaches are commonly inadequate for understanding and modelling the complexities within ancient volcanic terrains. We address this gap by demonstrating a technique that uses digitised graphic logs to construct correlation charts in a graphics editor to interpret 'restored' volcanic successions within fault blocks. This approach is validated with concurrent cross-sections that depict the structural-stratigraphic framework. The work is iteratively revised until the interpretation is internally consistent across both the correlation chart and the cross-section. This technique is presented within a four-phase workflow that guides the reader from initial scoping, through to graphic logging, interpretation of volcanic successions by locality (or fault block) and finally a synthesis and 3D model. This workflow was developed from our experiences in the buried and deformed Ordovician Cowal Igneous Complex that hosts world-class gold deposits that are currently being mined at E42 (open pit) and GRE46 (underground mine). A case study of the Cowal Igneous Complex is presented to demonstrate the value and real-world application of this workflow. Volcanic facies analysis is a powerful tool for the production of 3D models with application to mining and exploration settings. Graphic logging-based techniques and workflows were developed during 3D reconstructions of ancient and buried volcanic successions in the Cowal Igneous Complex of the Ordovician Macquarie Arc of New South Wales. Geological information is required to parameterize hydrogeological properties in groundwater flow models. Our aim was to provide a hydrogeological model for the island of Norderney, Northwest Germany and the surrounding Wadden Sea for this purpose. The model focuses on Holocene, Pleistocene and Pliocene deposits which are the most relevant to groundwater flow in and around the island's freshwater lens. For these geological units, borehole data was available that allowed us to distinguish between sediments acting as aquifers and aquitards. Conceptual units were derived that comprise the most common stratigraphic and petrographic features into discrete entities. The borehole data was supplemented by maps of the pre‐Holocene surface as well as data from an existing stratigraphic model for deeper geological units. The model was developed and created using the open‐source geological modelling software GemPy. The resulting model contains major hydrogeological units that can be assumed continuous over a larger extent of the model area based on the available data. From the deeper geology, a possible range of locations of the aquifer base below Norderney was extracted. By integrating borehole data, existing geological models and geological interpretations available in the literature, this dataset complements the so far mainly cross‐sectional and partial descriptions of the hydrogeology below Norderney. Purpose: Master information delivery plan (MIDP) is a key requirement for building information modelling (BIM) execution plan (BEP) that enlists all information deliverables in BIM-based project, containing information about what would be prepared, when, by who, as well as the procedures and protocols to be used. In a well-conceived BEP, the MIDP facilitates collaboration among stakeholders. However, current approaches to generating MIDP are manual, making it tedious, error-prone and inconsistent, thereby limiting some expected benefits of BIM implementation. The purpose of this study is to automate the MIDP and demonstrate a collaborative BIM system that overcomes the problems associated with the traditional approach. Design/methodology/approach: A BIM cloud-based system (named Auto-BIMApp) involving naming that automated MIDP generation is presented. A participatory action research methodology involving academia and industry stakeholders is followed to design and validate the Auto-BIMApp. Findings: A mixed-method experiment is conducted to compare the proposed automated generation of MIDP using Auto-BIMApp with the traditional practice of using spreadsheets. The quantitative results show over 500% increased work efficiency, with improved and error-free collaboration among team members through Auto-BIMApp. Moreover, the responses from the participants using Auto-BIMApp during the experiment shows positive feedback in term of ease of use and automated functionalities of the Auto-BIMApp. Originality/value: The replacement of traditional practices to a complete automated collaborative system for the generation of MIDP, with substantial productivity improvement, brings novelty to the present research. At a global scale, deltas are vital economic hubs, in part due to the combination of their access to inland regions via river systems with their proximity to sea. However, with the sea in close vicinity also comes the threat of freshwater contamination by saline seawater, especially during droughts. This study explores the potential of a mitigation measure to estuarine salt intrusion, namely the construction of a (temporary) earthen sill—a measure implemented in the Lower Mississippi River near New Orleans (LA, USA). This study suggests design guidelines on how a sill can be used to mitigate estuarine salt intrusion: the design should focus on the longitudinal placement and the height of the sill, and the mitigating efficiency of the sill reduces with increasing tidal range. Overall, a (temporary) sill has great potential to reduce salt intrusion in salt wedge estuaries if there is sufficient water depth available. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to obtain three-dimensional models of the cavum pelvis in New Zealand rabbits of both genders using CT images, to measure the pelvis diameters and angles through the created digital models, and to compare female and male New Zealand Rabbits in terms of sexual dimorphism. A total of 20 New Zealand rabbits, 10 females and 10 males, were used in this study. Computed tomography (CT) images of the animals were taken, the images were reconstructed with the MIMICS 20.1 program, and a three-dimensional model of the pelvic cavity was obtained from the two-dimensional images. Morphometric data were obtained by making diameter and angle measurements on the resulting 3D model. Then, the rabbits were dissected and the os coxae was exposed and the anatomical formations were named. When pelvimetry measurements in female and male rabbits were compared, it was seen that all values except pelvic tilt were higher in females. The data reveal that there is no significant difference in the volume and surface area of the right and left os coxae between male and female rabbits (P > .05). In this study comparing the morphometric differences of the pelvis in female and male New Zealand rabbits, volume and surface area data were shared for the first time. The collected data could be used for sex discrimination in rabbits, assist physicians in diagnosing patients, serve as a reference for clinical practices, and form the basis for new research.
