The work presented aims to analyse the feasibility of reusing concrete, once demolished from a building in Tres Cantos in Madrid, to manufacture finishing materials for buildings, as well as to design a procedure. The first phase consists of a bibliographic search on the reuse of materials, analysing the techniques adopted so far and the lines of work. The second phase related to the acquisition of data related to the production and recycling of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) at a European level. The third phase consists of the study of recycled aggregates resulting from demolitions or landslides, their treatment process. The fourth and final phase consists of the development of a laboratory test plan to evaluate varied materials for finishing exterior cement pavements with concrete from the demolition of the case study building. There were many conclusions and results of the project. The granulometry of the fine fraction of demolished concrete is suitable to produce non-structural products, such as building finishes and in particular non-driveway outdoor flooring. In terms of flexural and compressive strength, the mechanical behaviour of recycled mixes is lower than that of reference mixes. The recycled mixes show slightly higher capillary absorption capacities than the reference mixes, and the value is higher the greater the percentage of recycled aggregates used (a critical issue which can be resolved by pre-saturating the recycled material). © 2022, Universidad Politecnica de Valencia.. [ES] En la presente tesis doctoral se exponen los resultados obtenidos en el desarrollo inicial de un sistema multisensor, tipo lengua electrónica voltamétrica, para el control de la durabilidad de las estructuras de hormigón armado (EHA). Aunque los sistemas multisensores son ampliamente utilizados en diferentes ámbitos, como el del medio ambiente o de la industria alimentaria, su uso en las EHA es novedoso. Igualmente, resulta novedosa la utilización de sensores voltamétricos que, como se demuestra en esta tesis, son de gran eficacia en el análisis de parámetros relacionados con el deterioro del hormigón armado, mejorándose los modelos de durabilidad obtenidos a través de sensores potenciométricos. Todo ello, sin ser aumentada de manera inabordable la complejidad electrónica y computacional del sistema. El prototipo de lengua electrónica diseñado es un sistema de sensores híbridos que consta de cuatro electrodos de trabajo (Au, Ag, Ni e INOX). Se dice que es híbrido porque se usan técnicas tanto voltamétricas (voltametría cíclica) como impedimétricas (espectroscopia de impedancia). Se han utilizado metales nobles (Au y Ag), metales no nobles (Ni) y aleaciones de alta durabilidad (acero inoxidable) con el fin de obtener un comportamiento electroquímico más variado. En la fase previa al desarrollo del sistema se seleccionaron los metales a utilizar en los sensores que formarían parte del sistema multisensor. Para ello se realizó un número ingente de ensayos con distintos metales (Ir, Rh, Pt, Au, Ag, W, Ni y INOX), tanto en disolución (simulando las condiciones de disolución de poro del hormigón), como en hormigón, con el fin de ser seleccionados aquellos metales de cuya respuesta se pudiera extraer una mayor información. Una vez finalizada la fase previa se estudió la respuesta aislada de cada uno de los metales seleccionados (Au, Ag, Ni e INOX), dividiéndose el estudio en 3 fases: ¿ Fase 1. Estudio en disolución: se analizaron los procesos que tienen lugar sobre la superficie del electrodo en disoluciones que simulaban distintas circunstancias que se pueden dar en el hormigón (variación de la disponibilidad de O2, variación del pH y presencia del anión cloro). Los resultados obtenidos se compararon con los encontrados en literatura. ¿ Fase 2. Estudios hechos con el sensor embebido en hormigones convencionales sin adiciones. Se embebieron sensores voltamétricos en hormigones convencionales de distinta relación agua/cemento. Seguidamente, se analizaron las probetas bajo distintas circunstancias que tuvieran influencia en el desencadenamiento y cinética de los procesos de corrosión como son: o Variaciones en la disponibilidad de O2 y H2O. o Carbonatación del hormigón. o Presencia de Cl-. ¿ Fase 3. Se desarrollaron modelos que permitieran identificar variaciones en parámetros relacionados con el deterioro del hormigón armado o estimar y predecir el parámetro de interés. Terminado el estudio de la respuesta aislada de los cuatro sensores, se procedió a evaluar la respuesta cruzada de los sensores siguiendo los protocolos propios de las lenguas electrónicas. Tras analizar y comparar las respuestas aisladas y cruzadas de los sensores, se propuso una rutina de trabajo que en un futuro ayude a optimizar los recursos, tanto operacionales como de fabricación, utilizados en el sistema. Para finalizar, se hizo un estudio inicial para tratar de mejorar la autonomía del sistema, evaluando el efecto producido al simplificar la configuración de celda, reduciendo el número de electrodos de tres a dos., [CA] En la present tesi doctoral s'exposen els resultats obtinguts en el desenvolupament inicial d'un sistema multisensor, tipus llengua electrònica voltamètrica, pel control de la durabilitat de les estructures de formigó armat (EFA). Encara que l'ús d'aquest tipus de sistema està molt expandit en l'àmbit del medi ambient i de la indústria alimentària, el seu ús en les EFAs és molt nou. Igualment, resulta nova la utilització de sensors voltamètrics, que com és demostra en aquesta tesi, són de gran eficàcia en la determinació de les condicions del formigó armat, millorant-se considerablement els models de durabilitat obtinguts mitjançant sensors potenciomètrics. Tot això, sense augmentar la complexitat electrònica i computacional del sistema d'una forma inabordable. El prototip dissenyat de llengua electrònica és un sistema de sensors híbrids compost per quatre elèctrodes de treball (Au, Ag, Ni i acer inoxidable). Es diu que és híbrid perquè en el sistema de sensors s'utilitzen tècniques voltamètriques i impedimètriques. S'han utilitzat metalls nobles (Au i Ag), metalls no nobles (Ni) i aliatges d'alta durabilitat (acer inoxidable). Amb la finalitat d'obtindre un comportament electroquímic més variat. En la fase prèvia al desenvolupament del sistema, es van seleccionar els metalls a utilitzar en els sensors que formarien part del sistema multisensor. Per a això es va realitzar una quantitat ingent d'assajos amb diferents metalls (Ir, Rh, Pt, Au, Ag, W, Ni i acer inoxidable), tant en dissolució com en formigó, amb l'objectiu de seleccionar aquells metalls dels quals es poguera aconseguir més informació amb la seua resposta. Una vegada finalitzada aquesta fase prèvia, es va estudiar la resposta aïllada de cadascun dels metalls seleccionats (Au, Ag, Ni i acer inoxidable). L'estudi es va dividir en tres fases: ¿ Fase 1. Estudis en dissolució: es van analitzar els processos duts a terme sobre la superfície de l'elèctrode en dissolucions que simulaven diferents circumstàncies que es poden donar en el formigó (variació de la disponibilitat d' O2, variació de pH i presència de l'anió clor). Els resultats obtinguts es van comparar amb els trobats en la literatura. ¿ Fase 2. Estudis fets amb els sensors embeguts en formigó: es van embeure els sensors voltamètrics en formigons convencionals de diferent relació aigua/ciment i sense adicions. A continuació, es van analitzar les provetes sota diferents circumstàncies que tingueren influència en el desencadenament i cinètica dels processos com són: o Variacions en la disponibilitat d' O2 i H2O. o Carbonatació del formigó. o Presencia de Cl-. ¿ Fase 3. Per acabar, es va fer un estudi inicial per a tractar de millorar l'autonomia del sistema, avaluant l'efecte produït al simplificar la configuració de cel·la, reduint el nombre d'elèctrodes de tres a dos., [EN] In this thesis the results obtained in the development of a multisensor system, known as electronic voltametric tongue, for the reinforcement concrete structures' (RCS) durability control are exposed. Although the use of this multisensor system is widespread in different fields such as: the food industry and environmental control, its use in RCS monitoring is very novel. It is equally novel the use of voltametric sensors, this kind of sensors are very efficient in determining concrete conditions, improving the durability models obtained through potentiometric sensors, all without overly increasing the system's electronic and computational complexity The electronic tongue prototype designed is a hybrid sensor system made up of four working electrodes (Au, Ag, Ni and stainless steel). It has been referred to as hybrid because in the system voltametric and impedimetric electrochemical techniques are used. Noble metals (Au and Ag), non-noble metals (Ni) and high-durability alloys (stainless steel) have also been used with the purpose of achieving a more varied electrochemical behaviour. In the previous development phase of the system, the metals involved in the development of the electronic tongue were selected. In order to do this, a variety of tests with different metals were performed (Ir, Rh, Pt, Au, Ag, W, Ni and SS), in both dissolution (different concrete pore solution conditions were simulated) and hardened concrete. This allowed us to choose the metals which responses contained the most information. The next steps focused on the study of the selected sensors isolated response: ¿ Phase 1: simulation of concrete pore solution in dissolution systems. The results were compared with those already existing in the bibliography. ¿ Phase 2: studies with the sensors embedded in different standard concretes without additions. The samples were tested in different conditions involved in the rebars corrosion kinetics (variations in O2 and humidity availability, concrete carbonation and chlorides presence). ¿ Phase 3: Development of estimation models for the parameters of interest. After finishing the study of the isolated sensors' response, a cross-evaluation of their response was performed using typical protocols used in the electronic tongues (i.e. PCA and PLS). After analysing and comparing the isolated and crossed sensor's response, an optimized multisensory routine work was proposed which could, in the future, help optimize the resources used in the system. [ES] El objetivo principal de la tesis es encontrar el método de Machine Learning o algoritmo de Redes Neuronales más eficaz y preciso con el que predecir la resistencia a compresión (fsk) y a tracción (fst) a los 28 días del hormigón autocompactante con áridos reciclados (HACR). Los datos recogidos fueron extraídos de artículos de investigación existentes hasta septiembre del año 2021. Contienen dosificaciones de hormigón autocompactante endurecido con áridos reciclados. Para predecir la resistencia a compresión se utilizaron 515 dosificaciones. Por otro lado, para predecir la resistencia a tracción se utilizaron 381 dosificaciones. Cada una de las dosificaciones está compuesta por “6 componentes”: cemento, agua, componente mineral, arido fino, arido grueso y componente químico (variables de entrada). La variable de salida será la resistencia a compresión, o bien, la resistencia a tracción a los 28 días. Para predecir la resistencia a compresión y a tracción a los 28 días del hormigón autocompactante con áridos reciclados (HACR) mediante métodos de aprendizaje supervisados, se desarrollan nueve métodos: Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Extremely Randomized Trees (ERT), Gradiente Boosting (GB), Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LGBM), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), Category Boosting (CB) y los modelos aditivos generalizados: Inverse Gauss (GAM1) y Poisson (GAM2). Para predecir la resistencia a compresión y a tracción a los 28 días del hormigón autocompactante con áridos reciclados mediante redes neuronales, se desarrollan tres algoritmos: Levenberg–Marquardt, Bayesian regularization y Scaled conjugate gradient backpropagation. Cemento y agua son los componentes que mayor incidencia tienen en la resistencia a compresión, con una contribución superior al 20%. El árido grueso es el componente de la mezcla que menos contribuye a la resistencia a compresión del HAC con RA. Cemento es el componente de la mezcla que más contribuye (> 30%) a la predicción de la resistencia a tracción a los 28 días del HAC con RA. El agua es el componente que menos contribuye a la predicción de la resistencia a tracción a los 28 días del HAC con RA.

This paper evaluates a type of geopolymer concrete that uses hemp fibres as a natural aggregate due to the various advantages offered by these woody materials. These advantages include ease of cultivation and processing and their use in the essential structure of concretes used for green construction purposes. The sampling study was prepared using an environmentally friendly inorganic binder, based on geopolymerization reactions (Si-Na). The improvement in the hemp aggregate using two different preservation methods (fresh and wet) was assessed. The type of conservation enables anaerobic reactions to take place in the structure of the hemp, in such a way as to modify the proportions of the organic compounds contained in the hemp and the morphology of the fibres. It also encourages the proliferation of cellulose nanofibrils (CNC), which enhance the mechanical results, improving plasticity and thixotropy. The hempcrete studied in this paper could be a good alternative material for sustainable, environmentally friendly construction, as much less CO2 is emitted during the production process in comparison with conventional concrete. Using wet-preserved hemp means that less water must be added to the mix during preparation of the concrete. The flexural properties of six 120 × 300 × 4500 mm concrete beams reinforced with bars made from basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) basalt fibers and concrete stirrups were investigated. The beams contained different concrete compositions (with or without basalt fibers). Steel and BFRP bars were used as longitudinal and shear reinforcement. As expected, all the beams failed by the crushing of the concrete in the top compression fibers because of using BFRP bars. Beams with BFRP bars should be designed to fail by concrete crushing because it is safer than a brittle failure of the bars. The beams with composite reinforcement were characterized by the greatest number of cracks with the largest crack width. The use of basalt fibers resulted in slightly reduced cracks in beams. The most significant deflections were recorded for the beams with BFRC composite reinforcement, the smallest for FRC beams. Adding basalt fibers to the concrete resulted in slightly reduced deflection of FRC beams compared to RC beams and significantly reduced deflection compared to BFRC beams. Results showed that introducing basalt fibers to the concrete increased curvature ductility of these beams. A theoretical analysis of flexural capacity showed that the ACI standard design is more similar to experimental values (0.87). A more restrictive standard, as it turns out, is the fib Model Code (0.68). © 2022 by the authors.

El pasado mes de septiembre abrió sus puertas un nuevo establecimiento hotelero en el sevillano barrio de San Bernardo. Ubicado en la calle Juan de Mata Carriazo en un solar que ocupa la totalidad de una manzana de forma pentagonal. En la parcela se ha desarrollado un proyecto hotelero para 186 unidades de alojamiento que conjuga la versatilidad de la planta de salones con las mayores exigencias de la construcción sostenible. Se trata de un edificio conformado en manzana cerrada que se alinea a los cuatro viales que delimitan la parcela que tiene distintas rasantes, dejando un espacio libre interior que supone algo más del 20% de la superficie total del solar. El proyecto ha sido realizado por el estudio sevillano AMBITO ARQUITECTURA que dirige el arquitecto Carlos Carbajosa Fernández.

El hormigón armado es el material estructural más empleado en construcción, lo que exige un exhaustivo control tanto de los materiales que lo componen como de su ejecución, con el fin de garantizar la vida útil para la que ha sido proyectado. Uno de los principales problemas de la durabilidad del hormigón armado, es la corrosión de sus armaduras. Existen en la actualidad diferentes métodos que intentan detener el proceso de corrosión, entre ellos, los inhibidores superficiales de corrosión. El continuo incremento en la producción de acero desde el siglo XIX, ha producido un desequilibrio entre los productos fabricados en las industrias siderúrgicas y los residuos generados. Como consecuencia, toneladas de residuos son depositados en vertederos, provocando graves daños medioambientales con el paso del tiempo. El volumen de escorias producidas en la industria siderúrgica en España asciende a 2,55Mt al año, de ahí la importancia del reciclaje de estos productos y de su integración como materia prima en el proceso de fabricación de otros materiales. Partiendo de estas premisas, en el presente trabajo de investigación se ha estudiado el comportamiento a corrosión, de barras de acero de armar embebidas en probetas de mortero, en las que se ha sustituido parcialmente el árido y el cemento por escorias blancas de horno cuchara (LFS), mediante técnicas electroquímicas y gravimétricas. Para ello, se han fabricado probetas prismáticas de 6 x 8 x 2 cm3 con diferentes porcentajes de ión cloruro, introducidos en el momento del amasado, tanto en probetas patrón como en probetas con escorias LFS. El análisis de los resultados obtenidos permite concluir que las probetas patrón y las probetas con escorias LFS tienen comportamientos similares en presencia de cloruros por encima del 0,4% en peso de cemento y por tanto que la sustitución de escorias LFS por arena (25%) y cemento (30%) no afecta negativamente a la corrosión de las armaduras. Por tanto, el uso de escorias LFS en el proceso de fabricación de hormigón armado es una práctica que presenta ventajas competitivas respecto a las técnicas de construcción tradicionales, desde el punto de vista económico y medioambiental. En cuanto a los inhibidores superficiales de corrosión, no han resultado eficaces en probetas con escorias LFS, independientemente del porcentaje de ión cloruro, mientras que en probetas patrón han sido eficaces para porcentajes de ión cloruro igual o inferior al 0,8% en peso de cemento. ABSTRACT Reinforced concrete is the most widely used structural material. This implies that rigorous control must be applied in order to guarantee the life-span and performance of structures made using this composite material. One of the main problems regarding concrete durability is bar corrosion. At present, there are different methods adopted to stop the corrosion process, among them, surface corrosion inhibitors. The continuous growth in steel production since the 19th century has led to an imbalance between waste products generated in steel production processes and their subsequent use. As a consequence, mass dumping at waste disposal sites has been causing a significant environmental problem over the years. The amount of slag produced by the steel industry each year in Spain amounts to 2.55Mt, hence the importance of recycling by-products from steel production so they can be used as primary material in the manufacturing process of other materials. Starting from this working hypothesis, and using electrochemical and gravimetric techniques, this research work aims to analyse and study the corrosion behaviour of steel rebars embedded in mortar specimens, containing ladle furnace slag in partial substitution for aggregate and cement. Prisms were manufactured from 6 x 8 x 2 cm3 with different percentages of chloride ion introduced at the time of mixing, in standard specimens and specimens with LFS slag. Results from the analysis show that the standard specimens and those containing LFS slag display a similar behaviour in the presence of chlorides. Furthermore, when LFS slag is replaced by sand (25%) and cement (30%) corrosion of rebars is not negatively affected. Additionally, the use of LFS slag in the manufacture of reinforced structures is a practice that represents a competitive advantage over traditional construction techniques, from both an economic and environmental point of view Finally, as for surface corrosion inhibitors, they have not proved effective in specimens containing LFS slag, regardless of the percentage of the chloride ion, whereas in standard specimens they have been effective in chloride ion percentages not exceeding 0.8% (as to the cement amount).

Los terrenos en los que se ha desarrollado esta primera fase del proyecto, pertenecientes a la Comunidad de Montes de la Parroquia de Pereiras, se sitúan en Chan da Cruz, Parroquia de Cela, término municipal de Mos, en el límite con el Ayuntamiento de Vigo. Al igual que los terrenos colindantes, se trata de una zona de bosque. La integración del edificio en la parcela, asumiendo el desnivel de esta, la recuperación en el paisaje de árboles frondosos del lugar, brezos y toxos, y un sistema de tratamiento y acumulación de las aguas pluviales hacen que esta edificación y su urbanización sean autónomas y sostenibles.

[EN] Reinforced concrete structures' (RCSs) ageing and early deterioration are some of the main challenges faced by the building sector today, and steel bar corrosion is one of the main problems. In this phenomenon, water and concrete¿s electric resistivity play a fundamental role. Therefore, developing sensor systems capable of estimating any variations in these parameters in real time and remotely would represent considerable progress in sustainably maintaining RCSs. Many types of sensors capable of estimating humidity variation and electrical resistivity in concrete currently exist, but the variability of these sensors¿ sensitivity can be extreme depending on several factors; for example, temperature or presence of ions and their incorporation into smart monitoring systems, which is difficult. As an alternative to today¿s sensors, this study centered on developing two estimation models by means of the response of a novel voltammetric stainless steel (SS) sensor. The estimation models were one of humidity variation and another of concrete¿s electric resistivity. These models were calibrated, fitted and validated. Esta nueva entrega de las fi chas prácticas elaboradas por la Fundación MUSAAT para contribuir a la mejora de la calidad de la edifi cación aborda el control de la resistencia del hormigón fresco.

La conjunción entre el servicio a la comunidad y la nueva dotación urbana, respetuosa con el entorno, es la principal característica de estas nuevas oficinas, listas para afrontar los retos del siglo XXI.

The study of 843 scientific papers in this field has shown that the most important thematic area has been Recycling. In general, the common objective of the published papers was to study the efficient use of resources contained in construction and demolition waste due to their treatment to produce recycled aggregates, particularly for use in concrete. Likewise, some lacks have been observed in other areas of the analysed field, e.g. the use recycled aggregates in applications subject to less demanding regulations (mortars, precast concrete products, or green roofs)., Los problemas medioambientales asociados al sector de la construcción han promovido que la comunidad científica mundial preste una mayor atención al uso de áridos reciclados procedentes de residuos de construcción y demolición. Para analizar, cuantificar y visualizar los aspectos más relevantes de este campo científico, así como su evolución entre 1973 y 2019, se han aplicado las herramientas bibliométricas SciMAT y VOSviewer. La revisión bibliométrica de 843 trabajos científicos publicados en este campo ha mostrado que el área temática más importante ha sido el Reciclaje. El objetivo común de los mismos ha sido el estudio del uso eficiente de los recursos contenidos en los residuos de construcción y demolición para producir áridos reciclados y ser usados en hormigón. Rehabilitar un edifici significa no tan sols la seva reparació, reforma i adequació; sinó que, en un sentit molt més ampli, procura la recuperació del patrimoni edificat per a nous usos i noves prestacions. Cal adequar-lo a les necessitats i a la normativa actuals, generant un nou període de vida útil a l’edifici. El cas de l’antic Cinema Modern és paradigmàtic per la seva història. No es tracta d’un edifici catalogat, ni cobert amb categories de protecció d’àmbit local i molt menys, d’àmbit nacional. Tan sols disposa del resguard propi de tipus ambiental, en formar part del conjunt del barri Vell de Girona. Així com amb la voluntat, municipal i ciutadana, de recuperar l’edifici tal com era conegut, per a nous usos, i no haver-lo enderrocat per a la seva substitució.

Some reinforced concrete structures must be repaired at an early stage in their life due to the oxidation processes suffered by their reinforcements; such processes involve serious pathologies that affect the stability and safety of buildings. Spanish legislation distinguishes several classes of environments, with non-aggressive and normal exposure providing a longer useful life of the structure. The present study shows that some structural elements in reinforced concrete, mainly the pillars in the area of contact with the ground, are exposed to significant corrosion by carbonation. This position of the structural elements dramatically and abruptly shortens the useful life of the models provided for the current regulations. A total of 17 pillars in 10 buildings of different ages and locations in the Spanish Mediterranean area, not subject to the presence of chlorides, have been analyzed. These buildings are situated in environments considered by the standard as normal and non-aggressive. The actual carbonation that these elements present have been compared with that which can be derived from the model established by Spanish regulations. Of these pillars, 14 present a carbonation higher than that derived from the model, and the last three pillars largely conform to the figures of the model. This significant deviation shows the need for a revision of the Spanish EHE 08 regulation, which should include aspects such as the action of dampness by capillarity and the differences in electrochemical potential between the different materials. © 2022 by the authors. This study analyses the façades of a white concrete building located in Cádiz (Spain). Numerous sections of the concrete cladding on the façades have become detached and there are clear signs of reinforcement corrosion. For the purposes of this study, the arrangement of the reinforcement was evaluated by georadar (GPR). Cylindrical concrete cores measuring 10 cm in diameter by 15–18 cm in depth were extracted and their carbonation front was evaluated. Samples were characterized by physical properties determination; chemical and mineralogical analysis and the chloride penetration profiles. According to the results obtained, the concrete used can be considered permeable and porous (16.5–19.7%). Only two sampling points fulfilled the minimum reinforcement coating requirements for this type of environmental exposure, in accordance with current Spanish legislation. The carbonation fronts have reached the reinforcements, causing their depassivation. Depending on the orientation of the façade, the penetration of chlorides from marine spray was observed with a maximum value of 0.250% by weight of cement, without reaching the limit states of durability.

El de San Carlos era un antiguo hospital mandado construir por Carlos III, encargado al arquitecto Manuel Serrano en 1773 y terminado en 1776. De 1807 data el primer plano conservado, que ya muestra modificaciones. Durante el reinado de Isabel II se amplió, alcanzando la configuración definitiva en 1865. Hasta 1987 perteneció a Patrimonio Nacional, luego pasó al Estado español y en 1990 al Ayuntamiento de Aranjuez, que lo ha cedido a la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) durante 75 años.

This study tries to solve some issues in the construction sector related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) numbers 3 (health and well-being) and 8 (decent work and economic growth) of the 2030 Agenda, improving the working conditions of workers in the construction sector, at certain latitudes, since they are constantly exposed to inclement weather conditions and their safety may be adversely affected. Therefore, a design of a new procedure for the installation of a panel-based façade is proposed, which allows the complete closing of the building during its execution and thus improves the comfort and safety of workers. In addition to the constructive definition of the proposed system, its implementation procedure and the energy consumption during the interior air conditioning phase are analyzed. In addition, a comparative study of execution times between the proposed procedure and a conventional solution is performed. The conclusions of the study highlight that the proposed system improves: the working conditions in extreme climates and prevents risks derived from work in extreme weather conditions; the precision in the formation of window and door openings and their coordination with the modular façades; the ease of execution and delays the placement of the exterior scaffolding. Overall, the proposed procedure reduces the weight of the façade and the thermal transmittance by 13.5% and reduces not only costs due to the modulation of the system, but also execution times in the façade and interior work phases (around 40%) and the structure phase (around 32%). © 2021

This literature review deepens in how the properties of Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) affect the strength behavior of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) and how the expected effect of RCA can be modified by changes in its composition. It is demonstrated that, if the flowability of the SCC remains constant, the compressive strength decreases linearly with the RCA content, although this decrease is lower if the RCA is obtained from the crushing of a concrete with higher strength. The decrease of the water-to-cement ratio allows compensating this loss of strength, although its value should also allow keeping a suitable flowability. The water absorption of RCA and its interaction with other components of the mix increase the variability of the effect of RCA. Therefore, due to the large number of factors involved in this behavior, it is recommended to experimentally study the RCA and the SCC produced with it before its use., La presente revisión bibliográfica profundiza en cómo las características del Árido de Hormigón Reciclado (AHR) afectan al comportamiento resistente del Hormigón AutoCompactante (HAC) y cómo el efecto esperado del AHR puede alterarse por cambios en la composición del HAC. Se demuestra que, si la trabajabilidad del HAC se mantiene constante, la resistencia a compresión disminuye linealmente con el contenido de AHR, aunque este descenso será menor si el AHR procede del machaqueo de un hormigón de mayor resistencia. La disminución de la relación agua/cemento permite compensar esta pérdida de resistencia, aunque su valor debe permitir también mantener una adecuada trabajabilidad del HAC. La absorción de agua del AHR y su interacción con otros compontes incrementan la variabilidad del efecto del AHR. Debido a la gran cantidad de factores implicados en este comportamiento, es recomendable un estudio experimental del AHR y del HAC producido con él antes de su utilización.

La dirección de proyectos de construcción, respetando el entorno y los parámetros ambientales es un tema ya abordado con anterioridad en multitud de trabajos científicos. Éste trabajo tiene como objetivo comparar y analizar los distintos parámetros ambientales derivados del análisis del ciclo de vida, concretamente en la etapa de producto, fases A1, A2 y A3 y los costes económicos incurridos en una estructura modelo, utilizando diferentes hormigones armados HA25, HA30, HA35, HA40, HA45 y HA50. Demostrando la utilidad que tiene para los directores de proyectos en el proceso de toma de decisiones, disponer de un análisis comparativo de parámetros medioambientales frente al coste económico. Éste estudio se ha realizado sobre una estructura en concreto, por lo que los resultados obtenidos son propios del edificio analizado. Sería muy interesante realizar éste estudio sobre una muestra de estructuras más amplia. Se podría, de ese modo, analizar cómo influyen en los parámetros ambientales otros factores como la geometría, la utilización de diferentes soluciones estructurales o diferentes datos de cálculo, como las cargas de viento o nieve. The management of construction projects, respecting the environment and environmental parameters, is a subject that has already been addressed in many scientific works. The aim of this work is to compare and analyse the different environmental parameters derived from the life cycle analysis, specifically in the product stage, phases A1, A2 and A3 and the economic costs incurred in a model structure, using different reinforced concretes HA25, HA30, HA35, HA40, HA45 and HA50, demonstrating how useful it is for project managers in the decision-making process to have a comparative analysis of environmental parameters versus economic cost. This study has been carried out on a specific structure, so the results obtained are specific to the building analysed. It would be very interesting to carry out this study on a larger sample of structures. In this way, it would be possible to analyse how other factors such as geometry, the use of different structural solutions or different calculation data, such as wind or snow loads, influence the environmental parameters.

Se observan varios soportes con grietas verticales producidas por corrosión extrema de las armaduras, llamando la atención que se ha producido una severa pérdida de sección de hormigón en uno de los soportes, donde se han desprendido dos grandes piezas de hormigón, dejando a la vista las armaduras. Se hace evidente el avanzado estado de corrosión que presentan las armaduras, encontrándose el acero totalmente astillado y en un estado tal que se disgrega con sólo tocarlo con el dedo, por lo que dicha armadura no puede ser considerada a efectos estructurales y se hace necesaria una intervención urgente sobre dichos elementos estructurales, que garantice la restitución de sus características estructurales originales, así como la aplicación de una protección que dote al elemento de una alta durabilidad, al estar el edificio situado en primera línea de costa y los pilares afectados también a cota de jardín, con presencia continua de agua.

Esta nueva entrega de las fichas prácticas elaboradas por la Fundación MUSAAT para contribuir a la mejora de la calidad de la edificación está centrada en uno de los elementos fundamentales en una obra: los aceros corrugados para armaduras pasivas en estructuras de hormigón.

This article analyzes the different materials of the sector in order to achieve an improvement and awareness towards a more sustainable construction. As the fleas of the article, the behavior of these materials and their responses to the phases o construction have been studied. After carrying out the analysis it has been possible to demonstrate that the controlled evolution of certain materials such as the use of Clinker or cementite, significantly improves the context sustainable construction. On the other hand, by replacing cement with other materials such as fly ash or slag, durability can be improved by 50%, which is a high figure related to the sustainable point of view, thus reducing the impact on the environment.

La exoestructura donde apoyan los tres nuevos forjados incorporados para la ampliación del cuerpo bajo el edificio Alfredo Mahou es el remate visual de la obra. Por debajo, el bloque original conserva sus volúmenes y se une al superior mediante el núcleo de comunicaciones interior, desplazado a una posición central.

La construcció d’origen vegetal està present en tota la nostra geografia, almenys pel que fa als sostres i, com és lògic, s’ha desenvolupat més enllà dels sostres en les comarques on els boscos hi són més presents. Implica una tecnologia d’elements lineals i elements plans, molt més evident en la seva aparença i per això és molt més fàcil de reconèixer a simple vista que la tècnica d’origen mineral. Podria semblar, per aquest motiu, que la seva tecnologia fora més senzilla que la de la construcció mineral, però no és exactament així. Si bé el sistema general sí que és molt clar i bastant simple, la dificultat i la sofisticació tècnica es concentren en les unions entre les peces, tant si es fan amb la mateixa fusta com si es resolen amb altres tècniques o materials i, aquí també, es requereixen uns coneixements especialitzats per a la seva construcció. Si, com en el cas que avui presentem, es fa un salt tipològic i d’escala respecte a l’habitual construcció unifamiliar que sol ser, com a màxim, de tres plantes d’alçada, els requeriments estructurals, de seguretat i de confort es fan molt més exigents i la construcció -encara que sigui de fusta- es complica considerablement per tal d’assolir-los. Veurem com s’ha resolt en aquest edifici. Abans de començar a parlar de l’edifici com a element arquitectònic, s’han d’explicar dos conceptes previs que ens han d’ajudar a comprendre’l millor. El primer concepte és el mateix programa d’usos de l’equipament. El seu nom oficial és el de “Casal per a joves de Bigues i Riells” L@Cova. Però no és ben bé un casal ni està pensat tant per joves com per a adolescents i preadolescents. En realitat està enfocat a ser un espai de jocs dels que agraden a les noies i els nois d’aquesta darrera franja d’edat: vídeojocs, jocs de taula, ping-pong, billar o espais per fer dansa o altres activitats semblants. En aquest entorn poden socialitzar sense un cost econòmic i, a més, estan tutelats per dues educadores que són permanentment a l’equipament, tant per a gestionar-lo com per orientar als usuaris en els seus gustos o preferències.

Hormigón autocompactante con árido reciclado de hormigón y de baja retracción que comprende cemento Portland como primer conglomerante, escoria siderúrgica granulada molida como segundo conglomerante, escoria blanca de horno de cuchara como tercer conglomerante, áridos, agua y aditivos, los áridos comprenden árido reciclado de hormigón, siendo la totalidad de la fracción gruesa y la totalidad de la fracción polvo del hormigón de dicho árido reciclado de hormigón, pudiendo tener además fracción fina del citado árido. El procedimiento de elaboración consta de tres etapas de adición de componentes y mezclado, cada una con su correspondiente reposo.

La tesis doctoral desarrollada estudia el comportamiento mecánico del hormigón reforzado con fibras (metálicas y sintéticas) mediante experimentación y análisis numéricos. El modelo numérico desarrollado se basa en el método de elementos finitos (FEM) para simular el comportamiento de estructuras de hormigón reforzado con fibras. Para ello se implementaron modelos de daño para simular la fractura del hormigón y el efecto cosido debido a las fibras y modelos elastoplásticos para describir el comportamiento de la armadura. El modelo FEM se alimenta de diversos inputs, como las propiedades del material (hormigón, fibras y armadura) y el diseño geométrico del elemento estructural. Posteriormente, el modelo numérico se validó mediante vigas de hormigón armado y reforzado con fibras ensayadas en el Laboratorio de Grandes Estructuras de la Universidad de Burgos. En la presente tesis doctoral se muestra una caracterización exhaustiva, en estado fresco y en estado endurecido, de cuatro tipos de hormigón sostenibles, tres de ellos autocompactantes y uno bombeable; fabricados con escoria de horno eléctrico de arco (EAFS), dos tipos de cemento (CEMII y CEM-III), y reforzados con fibras metálicas o sintéticas. Con estos cuatro tipos de hormigón se hicieron grandes amasadas (750 litros) y se fabricaron vigas de 4,4 metros de longitud, que se ensayaron a flexión. Estos resultados permitieron validar con éxito el modelo FEM desarrollado para la simulación de fractura de hormigones reforzados con fibras. La tesis combina el desarrollo de modelos matemáticos teóricos con la experimentación de laboratorio, siendo un compendio perfecto de conocimientos aplicados a la ingeniería

Construction and demolition waste represents a growing environmental, social, and economic problem, and has become a priority for European and worldwide policies. The early quantification of construction waste is essential for the minimisation of its production and the improvement of waste management. This requires the development of design-based tools that enable a better understanding of the expected waste produced during the construction phase. Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodologies have gained recognition in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations (AECO) sector, largely due to their capacity for data simulation, storage, and management during the building design phase. This study presents a software application, called WE-BIM Add-in, to quantify construction waste (CW) while designing the BIM model in Revit. A validated CW quantification model which enables waste types and quantities per building element to be predicted in detail according to the European List of Waste (LoW) is integrated into the Revit workflow. Design alternatives could be effortlessly simulated in real time to assist practitioners in decision-making during the early design stages. Two alternative structural systems of a Spanish residential building were compared: a reinforced concrete structure, Option 1 (O1), and a steel structure, Option 2 (O2). The results were obtained automatically: O2, in addition to reducing 56% of O1′s waste, would have increased the waste recycling rate by 49%; and displayed in Revit, thereby remaining consistent with those of other studies that compare prefabricated systems with in situ systems. This work provides a basis for future research into the automated estimation of construction waste in BIM which could become a useful tool in waste-prevention policies. © 2022 by the authors.

En el límite entre el casco antiguo y la parte nueva de la ciudad emerge este prisma tallado en hormigón blanco, diseñado por Emilio Tuñón, contenedor de una de las colecciones de arte contemporáneo más importantes de Europa: la que ha cedido a la ciudad de Cáceres la galerista y coleccionista Helga de Alvear.

Los hormigones reforzados con fibras estructurales de acero son materiales que llevan usándose durante décadas y que actualmente se recogen en el Anejo 14 de la Instrucción del Hormigón Estructural EHE-08. Entre las diversas tecnologías destinadas a reforzar las estructuras existentes, MAPEI ofrece una innovadora familia de morteros pertenecientes a la línea HPC, morteros en base cemento reforzados con fibras estructurales de acero distribuidas homogéneamente dentro de la matriz cementosa. Estos morteros son realmente materiales compuestos con unas propiedades muy concretas. La adición de fibras de acero estructural a un mortero de alta resistencia a compresión proporciona un material con grandes ventajas, aparte de aumentar en gran medida la resistencia a tracción y controlar la fisuración, aporta una gran ductilidad y tenacidad al material.

The influence of the specimen's geometry on the mechanical properties of cement mortars with addition of carbon and basalt fibers has been studied. The first phase focused on the influence of the different amount of fibers on the mechanical properties of mortars. The tests showed that the addition of a 1% of fibers on the mortars significantly improved their energy absorption capacity. In the second phase, eight different specimen geometries were tested: four by flexural tests and four by compressive tests. The analysis of the results showed the influence of the specimen's geometry on the mechanical characteristics of mortars with fibers. It was observed that the maximum strength resisted by the specimen decreased at the time its dimensions increased, producing a "size effect". On the other hand, the strengths' decrease is more progressive in specimens with a wide/tall bigger ratio, being this a decisive parameter in the amount of absorbed energy before the collapse takes place. © 2019 Publicaciones Dyna Sl. [SPA] El hormigón armado es hoy día uno de los materiales más durables y versátiles que se utilizan en construcción, pero, debido a su porosidad, es susceptible de sufrir deterioro provocado por la penetración de agentes agresivos. En el caso de estructuras sometidas a ambiente marino es el cloruro el agente agresivo dominante que puede llegar hasta la armadura de acero provocando daños en la misma. Por tanto, es importante conocer bien cuáles son los mecanismos que influyen en la penetración de cloruros en la estructura de hormigón con objeto de desarrollar un modelo matemático completo que represente este proceso. La presente tesis se centra en el desarrollo de un software que permite determinar la vida útil de las estructuras de hormigón armado en medio marino, y puede aplicarse tanto para determinar el tiempo remanente de uso de las estructuras existentes como para ayudar en el diseño de las formulaciones de los hormigones en el caso de nuevas construcciones. El modelo matemático, planteado en 1D, tiene en cuenta todos los procesos que intervienen en la penetración de cloro en el hormigón: difusión (debida a diferencias de concentración en el soluto), migración (debida al potencial eléctrico que generan las diferentes cargas), advección o arrastre (debido a diferencias de presiones) y succión capilar (que depende de la presión capilar y que se da principalmente cuando la estructura está sometida a procesos de secado-mojado). Por otro lado, el modelo también tiene en cuenta diferentes mecanismos que actúan como sumideros de cloro como son la formación de sales que, o bien quedan adheridas a las paredes de los poros o bien precipitan en el caso de que haya una sobresaturación de iones cloruro. En ambos casos, a diferencia del cloro libre, no consiguen recorrer toda la red de poros y por tanto no llegan hasta la armadura. Una vez concretadas las ecuaciones de gobierno y las condiciones de contorno se aplica el Método de Redes que, mediante la discretización de las principales ecuaciones que controlan el proceso, da lugar a un modelo en red formado por 23 redes básicas y 8 redes auxiliares. Este modelo se ha implementado en MATLAB® y NgSpice y se ha aplicado a diferentes escenarios, todos ellos en ambiente marino. Para la validación del método se han utilizado los datos extraídos tanto de materiales encontrados en la bibliografía como los datos de los materiales que hemos ensayado en el marco de este trabajo. En este sentido, se han realizado ensayos tanto de caracterización de las materias primas y hormigones utilizados, como ensayos de campo sobre probetas de hormigón que se dispusieron en el puerto de Cartagena, sumergidas y en ambiente aéreo. [ENG] Reinforced concrete is nowadays one of the most durable and versatile materials used in construction but, due to its porosity, it can be damaged as a consequence of aggressive agents ingress. In the case of structures subject to marine environment, chloride is the dominant aggressive agent that can reach the steel frame causing damage. Therefore, it is important to know the mechanisms that influence the chloride ingress in the concrete, in order to develop a complete mathematical model that represent this process. The present thesis is focused in the development of a software capable of predicting the reinforced concrete structures service life in marine environment. This software can be implemented for both remaining service life of existing structures and design of concrete prescriptions in the case of new buildings. The 1D mathematical model takes into account all the different processes involved in the concrete chloride ingress: diffusion (due to concentration differences in the solute), migration (due to the electrical potential caused by the different charges), advection (due to pressure differences) and capillary suction (depending on the capillary pressure and mainly in wet-dry processes). Furthermore, the model also considers different mechanisms that act like “chloride-sinks” such as salt formations that get caught in the pore walls or precipitate when there is an oversaturation of chloride. In both cases, unlike free chloride, they do not manage to cover the entire pore network and therefore they do not reach the steel frame. Once the government equations and the boundary conditions have been stablished, the Network Method is applied by means of the dicretization of the main equations that control the process, resulting in a network model formed by 23 basic and 8 auxiliary circuits. This model has been implemented in MATLAB® and NgSpice and has been applied to different scenarios, all of them in marine environments. In order to validate the method, data extracted of materials found in the bibliography as well as data from materials tested within the framework of this work have been used. In this sense, characterization tests on raw materials and concretes have been conducted as well as field tests on specimens submerged and placed under air conditions in Cartagena Port. In this study, we compare the behavior of confined compression-tested concrete test pieces and short concrete beams subjected to three-point flexural strength testing when they are reinforced with high-modulus, high-strength carbon fibers reinforced polymers (CFRP). The fabrics used have roughly the same mechanical capacity but very different rigidities. As such, the results make it possible to obtain the influence of the rigidity of the CFRP on the structural behavior of the elements tested. The results obtained show that the type of fabric used does not cause significant differences in the values of tension of rupture and the form of rupture of the test pieces subjected to compression and flexural strength testing, which suggests that the variable which determines the mechanical response of the elements which have been reinforced and subjected to these kinds of demands is the mechanical capacity of the reinforcement, not its rigidity.

L’edat de les nostres infraestructures públiques s’incrementa any rere any i de manera comuna les actuacions de manteniment de les estructures es veuen reduïdes a la mínima expressió. El parc d’infraestructures públiques amb més de 20 anys de vida va superar en el 2020 el 24%, dels quals aproximadament un 27% correspondria a la xarxa viaria.

El minimalismo es sofisticado. Ésta es la filosofía que ha seguido el equipo encargado de la reforma de un viejo almacén canario que ahora vive una segunda vida como un espacio dedicado al mundo de la automoción.

Interpretable and scalable data-driven methodologies providing high granularity baseline predictions of energy use in buildings are essential for the accurate measurement and verification of energy renovation projects and have the potential of unlocking considerable investments in energy efficiency worldwide. Bayesian methodologies have been demonstrated to hold great potential for energy baseline modelling, by providing richer and more valuable information using intuitive mathematics. This paper proposes a Bayesian linear regression methodology for hourly baseline energy consumption predictions in commercial buildings. The methodology also enables a detailed characterization of the analyzed buildings through the detection of typical electricity usage profiles and the estimation of the weather dependence. The effects of different Bayesian model specifications were tested, including the use of different prior distributions, predictor variables, posterior estimation techniques, and the implementation of multilevel regression. The approach was tested on an open dataset containing two years of electricity meter readings at an hourly frequency for 1578 non-residential buildings. The best performing model specifications were identified, among the ones tested. The results show that the methodology developed is able to provide accurate high granularity baseline predictions, while also being intuitive and explainable. The building consumption characterization provides actionable information that can be used by energy managers to improve the performance of the analyzed facilities. This review collates the results obtained in more than 100 scientific publications regarding the performance of concrete with granular coal combustion products (GCCP, commonly referred to as coal bottom ash in literature) as a partial substitute for conventional aggregate. The effects of this by-product on the workability, density and mechanical and durability related properties were analysed. Some conclusions and recommendations are provided to facilitate future research. These recommendations include conducting careful assessments of the specific gravity and water absorption properties of GCCP, replacing conventional aggregate by volume, and compensating the water absorption of GCCP. The use of GCCP as an internal curing water reservoir is proposed as the most promising advanced application. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd
