2. On the plus and the minus Selmer groups for elliptic curves at supersingular primes

Abstract

Let $p$ be an odd prime number, $E$ an elliptic curve defined over a number field. Suppose that $E$ has good reduction at any prime lying above $p$, and has supersingular reduction at some prime lying above $p$. In this paper, we construct the plus and the minus Selmer groups of $E$ over the cyclotomic $\mathbb Z_p$-extension in a more general setting than that of B.D. Kim, and give a generalization of a result of B.D. Kim on the triviality of finite $\Lambda$-submodules of the Pontryagin duals of the plus and the minus Selmer groups, where $\Lambda$ is the Iwasawa algebra of the Galois group of the $\mathbb Z_p$-extension., Comment: 29 pages

Abstract

We exhibit central simple algebras over the function field of a diagonal quartic surface over the complex numbers that represent the 2-torsion part of its Brauer group. We investigate whether the 2-primary part of the Brauer group of a diagonal quartic surface over a number field is algebraic and give sufficient conditions for this to be the case. In the last section we give an obstruction to weak approximation due to a transendental class on a specific diagonal quartic surface, an obstruction which cannot be explained by the algebraic Brauer group which in this case is just the constant algebras., Comment: 29 pages

Abstract

We introduce the "sharp" (universal) extension of a 1-motive (with additive factors and torsion) over a field of characteristic zero. We define the "sharp de Rham realization" by passing to the Lie-algebra. Over the complex numbers we then show a (sharp de Rham) comparison theorem in the category of formal Hodge structures. For a free 1-motive along with its Cartier dual we get a canonical connection on their sharp extensions yielding a perfect pairing on sharp realizations. We thus provide "one-dimensional sharp de Rham cohomology" of algebraic varieties., Comment: 30 pages

Abstract

Elliptic curves have a well-known and explicit theory for the construction and application of endomorphisms, which can be applied to improve performance in scalar multiplication. Recent work has extended these techniques to hyperelliptic Jacobians, but one obstruction is the lack of explicit models of curves together with an efficiently computable endomorphism. In the case of hyperelliptic curves there are limited examples, most methods focusing on special CM curves or curves defined over a small field. Abstract

Given a point ξ on a complex abelian variety A, its abelian logarithm can be expressed as a linear combination of the periods of A with real coefficients, the Betti coordinates of ξ . When (A , ξ) varies in an algebraic family, these coordinates define a system of multivalued real-analytic functions. Computing its rank (in the sense of differential geometry) becomes important when one is interested about how often ξ takes a torsion value (for instance, Manin's theorem of the kernel implies that this coordinate system is constant in a family without fixed part only when ξ is a torsion section). We compute this rank in terms of the rank of a certain contracted form of the Kodaira–Spencer map associated to (A , ξ) (assuming A without fixed part, and Z ξ Zariski-dense in A), and deduce some explicit lower bounds in special situations. For instance, we determine this rank in relative dimension ≤ 3 , and study in detail the case of jacobians of families of hyperelliptic curves. Our main application, obtained in collaboration with Z. Gao, states that if A → S is a principally polarized abelian scheme of relative dimension g which has no non-trivial endomorphism (on any finite covering), and if the image of S in the moduli space A g has dimension at least g, then the Betti map of any non-torsion section ξ is generically a submersion, so that ξ - 1 A tors is dense in S (C) . 9. On uniqueness of p -adic period morphisms, II.

Abstract

We prove equality of the various rational $p$ -adic period morphisms for smooth, not necessarily proper, schemes. We start with showing that the $K$ -theoretical uniqueness criterion we had found earlier for proper smooth schemes extends to proper finite simplicial schemes in the good reduction case and to cohomology with compact support in the semistable reduction case. It yields the equality of the period morphisms for cohomology with compact support defined using the syntomic, almost étale, and motivic constructions. We continue with showing that the $h$ -cohomology period morphism agrees with the syntomic and almost étale period morphisms whenever the latter morphisms are defined (and up to a change of Hyodo–Kato cohomology). We do it by lifting the syntomic and almost étale period morphisms to the $h$ -site of varieties over a field, where their equality with the $h$ -cohomology period morphism can be checked directly using the Beilinson Poincaré lemma and the case of dimension $0$. This also shows that the syntomic and almost étale period morphisms have a natural extension to the Voevodsky triangulated category of motives and enjoy many useful properties (since so does the $h$ -cohomology period morphism). Let a, b, c be nonzero polynomials in k[t] where k[t] is the ring of polynomials with coefficients in k. We prove that if ax2+by2+cz2=0 has a nonzero solution in k[t], then there exist x0,y0,z0∈k[t], not all zero, such that ax02+by02+cz02=0 and degx0≤12(degb+degc), degy0≤12(dega+degc), and degz0≤12(dega+degb). 12. Congruences of two-variable p-adic L-functions of congruent modular forms of different weights.

Abstract

Vatsal (Duke Math J 98(2):397-419, 1999) proved that there are congruences between the p-adic L-functions (constructed by Mazur and Swinnerton-Dyer in Invent Math 25:1-61, 1974) of congruent modular forms of the same weight under some conditions. On the other hand, Kim (J Number Theory 144: 188-218, 2014), the second author, constructed two-variable p-adic L-functions of modular forms attached to imaginary quadratic fields generalizing Hida's work (Invent Math 79:159-195, 1985), and the novelty of his construction was that it works whether p is an ordinary prime or not. In this paper, we prove congruences between the two-variable p-adic L-functions (of the second author) of congruent modular forms of different but congruent weights under some conditions when p is a nonordinary prime for the modular forms. This result generalizes the work of Emerton et al. (Invent Math 163(3): 523-580, 2006), who proved similar congruences between the p-adic L-functions of congruent modular forms of congruent weights when p is an ordinary prime. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

14. Characterization of Energy Consumption of a 802.11g Device.

Abstract

Wireless communications are continuously growing and the aim of reducing its energy consumption has recently become a research key point. This paper aims to analyze the influence of the configuration of a 802.11g device and its energy consumption. Five operational parameters are analyzed: two related to the network connection (bandwidth and datagram size), the device driver, Power Save Mode (PSM), and signal strength. By analyzing the energy saving values, we show the influence of each operational parameter on the energy consumption value. results show that a correct device configuration can save up to 83% in terms of energy consumption. Let $X^{\bul}_f$ be the Hansen-Demazure-Deligne-Lusztig compactification of the Deligne-Lusztig variety $X_f$ of $G$ associated with a Coxeter element in the Weyl group $W_G$ of $G$, and let $X^{\bul}_{f,0}$ be the $\gF_q \delta$-structure on $X^{\bul}_f$ over the finite extension $\gF_q \delta$ of $\gF_q$ determined by $F^{\delta} : X^{\bul}_f \to X^{\bul}_f$, where $\delta$ is the smallest positive integer such that $F^{\delta}$ is the identity map on $W_G$. We shall give an affirmative answer to the Tate conjecture over finite fields for algebraic cycles on $X^{\bul}_{f,0}$ and related projective schemes.

In this paper we will give a global description of the Frobenius for the division fields of an elliptic curve E which is strictly analogous to the cyclotomic case. This is then applied to determine the splitting of a prime p in subfields of such a division field. Such fields include a large class of non-solvable quintic extensions and our application provides an arithmetic counterpart to Klein's "solution" of quintic equations using elliptic functions.
