Hereditary spherocytosis is a disease caused by deficiency of erythrocyte lipid membrane protein. Hereditary spherocytosis shows hemolysis of erythrocyte, and it leads to anemia, jaundice by elevation of indirect bilirubin. Almost of patients are diagnosed in their infancy, and can be cured by splenectomy about their age 6–7. Herein, we report a rare case of 33-year-old male was suffered from gallbladder stone and cholangitis those are thought to be the late complications of hereditary spherocytosis. We performed endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography to remove common bile duct stones. After he got cholecystectomy and splenectomy, there was no recurrence of choledocholithiasis. This is the first case in Korea who didn’t undergo splenectomy until grown up, shows cholangitis as a late disease manifestation of hereditary spherocytosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to confirm whether innovation can be realized through the direction that companies pursue, this study empirically analyzed the relationship between strategic directionality and innovation capacity. Specifically, strategic directionality is divided into customer orientation and technology orientation, and innovation capacity is classified into strategic planning capacity, R&D capacity, and technology commercialization capacity based on previous studies. And the effect of customer and technology orientation on each innovation capacity was analyzed. Data collection was carried out by 368 questionnaires from the workers of manufacturing industry in Gyeongbuk area and the proposed hypotheses were tested by using structural equation. As a result, it was confirmed that technology orientation had significant effects on all three innovation capacities. However, the effect of customer orientation on strategic planning capacity and technical commercialization capacity was accepted, but the relationship with R&D capacity was rejected. These results can provide implications for how to draw innovation from the organizational strategic direction and culture perspectives by explaining the impact of organizational orientation on innovation capacity. A 50-year-old woman complained of jaundice and dyspepsia that started 2 weeks prior to consultation. Abdomen-pelvic computed tomography showed a 3 cm mass in the right hepatic duct with central calcification, which was spreading into the second branch. Repeated biopsies through endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography were needed for pathology, which was consistent with an adenocarcinoma. Imaging studies including positron emission tomography showed no evidence of distant metastasis. The patient underwent right lobectomy with bile duct resection. The final diagnosis was intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with central calcification. We reported a very rare case of centrally calcified mass growing in the second branch of the right hepatic duct. The possibility of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma with central calcification should be considered for differential diagnosis of intrahepatic calcification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report a case of duodenal metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix confirmed by histopathological diagnosis. A 48-year-old woman was diagnosed with uterine cervix cancer stage IVB and underwent chemotherapy. During followup after chemotherapy, a mass suspicious of malignancy was found at the 3rd portion of the duodenum on the magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy with biopsy was done for an ulcerofungating mass at the 3rd portion of the duodenum. Squamous cell carcinoma was confirmed on the biopsy which was same as the histopathological diagnosis confirmed by cervix biopsy and right supraclavicular lymph node biopsy resulting from metastasis of cervix. Since 1981, only ten cases of small bowel metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma of cervix have been reported. It is exceedingly rare to find metastasis to the duodenum from uterine cervix cancer.
