Purpose. This study aimed to investigate the effect of different veneering methods on the tensile bond strength between polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) and denture base resins. Materials and methods. A total of 80 PEKK T-shaped specimens were fabricated and the primer (Visio.link) was applied after airborne-particle abrasion with 110 μm alumina oxide powder. According to the veneering method, the specimens were divided into four groups (n = 20) to be veneered with the gingival colored packable photopolymerized composite resin (SR Adoro); flowable photopolymerized composite resin, (Crea.lign); heat-polymerized resin (Vertex); and self-polymerized resin (ProBase Cold). Each group was divided into two subgroups (n = 10) according to the artificial thermal aging. After the tensile bond strength measurement via universal testing machine, the fracture sections of all specimens were observed. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD post hoc test were used for the statistical analysis (α = .05). Results. The results of the two-way ANOVA showed statistically significant differences in the tensile bond strength according to the veneering method and artificial thermal aging of denture base resins (P<.001). The highest tensile bond strength showed in the packable photopolymerized resin group before and after the artificial thermal aging. The lowest tensile bond strength showed in the heat-polymerized resin group. The mixed and adhesive fracture showed in all groups. Conclusion. The veneering method and artificial thermal aging can influence in the tensile bond strength between the resin and PEKK. The artificial thermal aging can reduce the tensile bond strength. The long-term linear trend of global sea-to-air dimethyl sulfide (DMS) flux was analyzed over a 16-year time span (2000~2015), based on satellite observation data. The emission rates of DMS (i.e. DMS flux) in the global ocean were estimated from sea surface DMS concentrations, which were constructed with chlorophyll a (Chl-a) concentrations and mixed layer depths (MLD), and transfer velocity from sea to air, which was parameterized with sea surface wind (SSW) and sea surface temperature (SST). In general, the DMS flux in the global ocean exhibited a gradual decreasing pattern from 2000 (a total of 12.1 Tg/yr) to 2015 (10.7 Tg/yr). For the latitude band (10° interval between 0° and 60°), the DMS flux at the low latitude of the Northern (NH) and Southern hemisphere (SH) was significantly higher than that at the middle latitude. The seasonal mean DMS flux was highest in winter followed by in summer in both hemispheres. From the long-term analysis with the Mann-Kendall (MK) statistical test, a clear downward trend of DMS flux was predicted to be broad over the global ocean during the study period (NH: -0.001~ -0.036 µmol/m²/day per year, SH: -0.011~ -0.051 µmol/m²/day per year). These trend values were statistically significant (p < 0.05) for most of the latitude bands. The magnitude of the downward trend of DMS flux at the low latitude in the NH was somewhat higher than that at the middle latitude during most seasons, and vice versa for the SH. The spatio-temporal characteristics of DMS flux and its long-term trend were likely to be primarily affected not only by the SSW (high positive correlation of r = 0.687) but also in part by the SST (r = 0.685). Background: Metabolic syndrome is associated with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease in patients with prediabetes. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare WHtR (Waist-to-Height Ratio) as a predictor of metabolic syndrome with other anthropometric indices as in Body Mass Index (BMI), Waist Circumference (WC) and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR) in prediabetes. Methods: A total of 816 subjects with prediabetes were recruited from a community based Cohort Study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was performed to find the optimal cutoff value of WHtR. Area under the curve (AUC) was calculated for each anthropometric index and correlation coefficient between WHtR and various dermographic and clinical factors was calculated. Results: WHtR had a significant correlation with metabolic parameters except for fasting glucose and increased with increasing number of risk factors for metabolic syndrome. AUC of WHtR was significantly higher than that of other anthropometric indices. The optimal cutoff value of WHtR was 0.53 for metabolic syndrome in prediabetes. Conclusion: WHtR may be the simple and effective anthropometric index for predicting metabolic syndrome in prediabetic patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
