This paper elucidates the novel direction of food research in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution characterized by personalized approaches. Since conventional approaches for identifying novel food materials for health benefits are expensive and time-consuming, there is a need to shift towards AI-based approaches which offer more efficient and cost- effective methods, thus accelerating progress in the field of food science. However, relevant research papers in this field present several challenges such as regional and ethnic differences and lack of standardized data. To tackle this problem, our study proposes to address the issues by acquiring and normalizing food and biological big data. In addition, the paper demonstrates the association between heath status and biological big data such as metabolome, epigenome, and microbiome for personalized healthcare. Through the integration of food-health-bio data with AI technologies, we propose solutions for personalized healthcare that are both effective and validated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study was done to investigate the experience of physical and emotional safety in nursing students during fundamentals of nursing practicum. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from March to September 2019. A total of 553 nursing students, who had completed fundamental nursing laboratories, participated in this study. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires which included questions about general characteristics, physical and emotional safety during fundamental nursing laboratories along with an informed consent given prior to the practicum. Results: Of the students, 26 experienced physical safety accidents, and 18 reported emotional safety accidents. Students' mean stress score for physical safety was 1.95, and the mean score for emotional safety was 1.92. Of the students, more than 59.1% agreed to volunteer as practice models in certain nursing procedures' training. Of the students, 55.8% were satisfied with using their bodies to train fundamental nursing skills. 61.8% of students reported that informed consent was obtained during the nursing laboratory, and 88.6% of students thought that informed consent needs to be obtained. Conclusion: To prevent safety accidents during the fundamentals of nursing practicum and systematically manage accidents, standardized safety guidelines for nursing practicum should be developed. The purpose of this study was to know the difference in pain, sleep, self-care behavior in patients performed by sternotomy and robotic minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. The participants were 64 patients with sternotomy and 64 patients with minimal thoracotomy in heart valve surgeries at a tertiary hospital in Seoul. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, χ2 test, paired t-test. with SPSS/WIN(22.0). The participants with minimally invasive thoracotomy felt severe pain than the patients with thoracotomy at post operation day 2 & 5. The severe pain site were the surgical site in both groups. The participants with sternotomy had better sleep than minimally invasive thoracotomy patients. Self-care behavior was higher in the minimally invasive thoracotomy group. Therefore, despite the many advantages of robotic surgery such as rapid recovery and shortening of length of stay in hospital, accurate pain assessment and application of differentiated protocols are needed for the management of pain in the patients with robotic minimally invasive cardiac surgeries. In addition, a structured education program intervention is needed to improve comfort by considering gender, age, and method of operation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the safety of nursing students during fundamentals of nursing practicum in Korea. Methods: This study used a descriptive design. A total of 106 nursing instructors teaching fundamentals of nursing longer than one year participated in this study. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from July 24 to August 28, 2018. The questionnaires consisted of general characteristics, characteristics of fundamentals of nursing course, physical and emotional safety issues during fundamentals of nursing practicum, and obtaining an informed consent prior to practicum. Results: The average number of physical safety accidents during practicum of fundamentals of nursing in the past 5 years was 1.12±2.44. The most common safety accident was punctured wound. The mean score of the participants' stress on physical safety accidents was 3.53±1.12 out of 5. The average number of emotional safety accidents of fundamentals of nursing practicum in the past 5 years was 1.05±2.72. The mean score of stress on emotional safety accident was 3.00±1.09 out of 5. We found that 47.2% of the participants obtained an oral consent or a written consent for safety of fundamentals of nursing practicum. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that it is necessary to establish safety strategies for fundamentals of nursing practicum for nursing students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Insomnia is a common sleep-related symptom which occurs in many populations, however, the neural mechanism underlying insomnia is not yet known. The hyperarousal model explains the neural mechanism of insomnia to some extent, and the frontal cortex dysfunction has been known to be related to primary insomnia. In this review, we discuss studies that applied resting state and/or task-related functional magnetic resonance imaging to demonstrate the deficits/dysfunctions of functional activation and network in primary insomnia. Empirical evidence of the hyperarousal model and proposed relation between the frontal cortex and other brain regions in primary insomnia are examined. Reviewing these studies could provide critical insights regarding the pathophysiology, brain network and cerebral activation in insomnia and the development of novel methodologies for the diagnosis and treatment of insomnia. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effects of self-evaluation using smartphone recording on competency in nursing skills, satisfaction and learning motivations in nursing students'. The setting was the open laboratory hours. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre/post-test design was conducted in September 2015. The participants were 82 sophomore nursing students from one University. The experimental group did self-evaluation by watching recorded video clips of their performance. The control group did not have any self-evaluation. The primary outcomes were scores from the foley catheterization checklist, scores from a student satisfaction tool, and scores from a learning motivation tool. Data were analyzed using χ² test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, and paired t-test. Results: There was a significant higher mean score in levels of satisfaction by students in the experimental group compared to the control group (t=2.26, p=.027). In addition, improvement in communication skills by the experimental group was significantly higher than improvement in the control group (t=3.96, p<.001). Conclusion: Findings show that self-evaluation using smartphone recordings has positive effects on increasing both communication skills and satisfaction with practice during open laboratory hours. Shift workers experience a disruption in the circadian sleep-wake rhythm, which brings upon adverse health effects such as fatigue, insomnia and decreased sleep quality. Moreover, shift work has deleterious effects on both work productivity and safety. In this review, we present a brief overview of the current literature on the consequences of shift work, especially focusing on attention-associated cognitive decline and related behavioral changes. We searched two electronic databases, PubMed and RISS, using key search terms related to cognitive domains, deleterious effects, and shift work. Twenty studies were eligible for the final review. The consequences of shift work can be classified into the following three categories extracted from the literature review : 1) work accidents ; 2) commuting accidents such as car accidents that occur on the way to and from work ; and 3) attendance management at work (i.e., absenteeism, tardiness, and unscheduled early departure). These cognitive and behavioral consequences of shift work were also found to be associated with sleep disorders in shift workers. Thus, improvements in the shift work system are necessary in order to enhance workers' health conditions, work productivity, and safety. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify nursing students' levels of anxiety in simulation based nursing education and to understand the relationship of anxiety and personal satisfaction of simulation, self-efficacy, and clinical competence during simulation. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with 84 senior nursing students at a private university in South Korea. Level of anxiety was measured with STAI (the State- Trait Anxiety Inventory) prior to the stimulation practice. After the debriefing, satisfaction scores were measured with SSE (Satisfaction with Simulation Experience scale), self-efficacy scores with the modified measurement developed by Roh and Park, and scores for clinical skills with a scale developed by the Korea Association of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Results: Nursing students exhibited moderate to severe anxiety in simulation practice (Mean 49.51, SD 8.60). Self-efficacy was negatively correlated to anxiety (r=-.25, p=.022). Conclusion: Decreasing students' anxiety levels needs to be addressed to increase the self-efficacy of the simulation practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
