The aim of this study was to analyze and evaluate the safety performance of processing meat and bone meal from Ussuri raccoon dogs carcasses. Samples were obtained from 17 major raccoon dog breeding areas in China to explore the feasibility of processing meat and bone meal from raccoon car‐ casses, to provide a theoretical basis for the effective utilization of raccoon dog by-products after slaugh‐ ter, and to provide data support for the enrichment of animal protein feed sources in China. A total of 51 healthy Ursuline raccoon dogs were randomly selected from 17 raccoon farms in each region. Each rac‐ coon dog carcass weighing about 9 kg was taken as a test sample (including internal organs and toe claws), and raccoon dog meat and bone meal was made by grinding, high-pressure hydrolysis, degreasing, drying and crushing, and its nutritive value analysis safety evaluation was made. The results showed that the crude protein, crude ash, moisture, calcium and total phosphorus contents of raccoon dogs meat and bone meal met the requirements of the national standard for meat and bone meal, and the crude protein contents of raccoon dogs meat and bone meal from Hengshui, Weifang and Qingdao were as high as 67.29%, 66.14% and 73.5%, re‐ spectively, which met the first level index of Bone Meal, Meat and Bone Meal for Feedstuffs. The con‐tent of lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium and chromium heavy metal elements meet the requirements of the national standard for meat and bone meal health and safety standards. Sulfadimethoxine, sulfamethoxa‐ zole, sulfamonomethoxine, sulfadiazine, penicillin, oxytetracycline and gentamicin meet the requirements of the standard for maximum residue limits of veterinary drugs in food. The carcass of raccoon dogs after slaughtering and skin removal is made into meat and bone meal according to the meat and bone meal pro‐ cessing procedure, which is rich in nutritional value, and the health and safety indexes meet the standard of protein feed materials, and can be used as an alternative high-quality protein feed material.
