In order to improve the accuracy of flow measurement under the Yellow River high sediment concentration flood, the relationship between the cross-section average water depth and die cross-section average velocity based on energy equation and manning formula was analyzed. The results show that when the flow rate is more than 3 000 m3/s, the proportion of measurement times with the cross-section average water depth error less than 30% calculated by this method in Wubu and Longmen stations is 98.9% and 79.1% respectively. The shorter the flow grading step size is, the more accurate the simulation results will be. However, in the actual use process, it will become cumbersome, and the flow grading step size needs to be determined according to the test accuracy requirements and the actual situation.
