Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of inosine on diabetic cognitive impairment (DCI) in rats and to explore its mechanism. Methods SD male rats were randomly divided into the control group, model group, and experimental group, respectively. Rats in the model group and experimental group were treated with high-fat diet combined with the intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin and were screened out by Morris water maze experiment to obtain the DCI models, except rats in the control group. After successful modeling, rats in the experimental group were intraperitoneally injected with 100 mg/kg inosine, and rats in the control group and the model group were intraperitoneally injected with the same volume of normal saline, once a day, for 4 weeks. Morris water maze test was used to detect the cognitive ability of rats. HE staining was used to observe the morphology of hippocampal neurons. ELISA was used to detect the levels of tumor necrosis factor- α (TNF- α), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in hippocampus. RT-PCR and Western blotting were used to detect the mRNA and protein expression levels of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K/protein kinaseB (AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway. Results Compared with the control group, the escape latency increased, and the number of crossing the platform decreased in the model group (both P<0. 05). Compared with the model group, the escape latency decreased, and the number of crossing the platform increased in the experimental group (both P<0. 05). In the model group, the hippocampal neurons were loosely arranged and irregularly shaped, and the number was significantly reduced. The hippocampal neurons of the experimental group were relatively neatly arranged and the morphology was regular, and the number increased. Compared with the control group, the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and MDA in the hippocampus of the model group increased, and the levels of SOD and GSH-Px decreased (all P<0. 05). Compared with the model group, the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and MDA in the hippocampus of the experimental group decreased, and the levels of SOD and GSH-Px increased (all P<0. 05). The mRNA expression levels of PI3K, AKT, and mTOR and the protein expression levels of PI3K, p-AKT, and p-mTOR were lower in the model group than in the control group (all P< 0. 05). The mRNA expression levels of PI3K, AKT, and mTOR and the protein expression levels of PI3K, p-AKT, and pmTOR in the experimental group were higher than those in the model group (all P<0. 05). Conclusions Inosine can improve the cognition and learning memory in DCI rats, thus alleviating cognitive impairment. This paper introduces the overview of Phragmites australis (Cav. ) Trin. ex Steud. . It comprehensively summarizes the ecological functions of reeds, including stabilizing soil, weakening wind and waves, reducing noise, purifying water bodies, inhibiting water blooms, and providing habitats. Furthermore, it discusses the garden applications of reeds and how to combine ecological functions with landscape applications from the perspective of reed configuration and planting. Objective: To explore the effect of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on inhibiting the abnormal cell phenotype of fibroblast-like synoviocytes in rheumatoid arthritis (RA-FLS) and possible mechanism. Method: Synoviocytes were isolated by using enzyme digestion, and the morphology of cells was observed under microscope. At the same time, the expression of Vimentin protein was detected by immunofluorescence method to identify RAFLS. Cells cultured in vitro were divided into four groups: control group, LIPUS group, tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) group and TNF-α+LIPUS group or three groups: control group, interleukin-6 (IL-6) group and IL-6+LIPUS group. The effects of LIPUS on RA-FLS cell viability and proliferation were detected by CCK8 and EDU assay respectively, and the effects of LIPUS on RA-FLS migration were observed by scratch test and Transwell migration assay. RT-qPCR was used to detect the gene expression of important cytokines, chemokines and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in RA-FLS. ELISA was used to further detect the effect of LIPUS on the expression of IL-6, a key effector of RA-FLS, and the effects of LIPUS on mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway in RA-FLS were detected by Western Blot. Result: Purified RA-FLS were obtained. Firstly, LIPUS could suppress the cell activity (P<0.001) and proliferation (P=0.007) induced by TNF-α in RA-FLS cultured in vitro. However, the migration and the transcription levels of MMPs related to migration (MMP2 and MMP9) were not significantly different between groups (P> 0.05) . LIPUS could inhibit the high expression of IL-6 and interleukin-8 (IL-8) at the mRNA level in the inflammatory environment induced by TNF-α (P<0.001), but there was no significant difference in the suppression of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), MMP1 and MMP13 (P>0.05) . In addition, compared with untreated group, LIPUS could inhibit the secretion of IL-6 in RA-FLS induced by TNF-α (P<0.001), and also inhibited the proliferation of RAFLS induced by IL6 (P=0.003) . Finally, LIPUS could inhibit the phosphorylation of p38 MAPK and cJun Nterminal kinase (JNK) in MAPK signaling pathway (P=0.033), but the effect on the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinas 1/2 (ERK1/2) was not significantly (P>0.05). Conclusion: LIPUS could reduce the abnormal proliferation of RA-FLS in inflammatory state without affecting its migration, which might be related to the inhibition of p38/JNK-IL-6 signaling pathway. Objective: To investigate the relationship between bedtime procrastination and daytime sleepiness in college students, and to explore the mediating effect of sleep quality and the moderating effect of gender in the above-mentioned relationship. Methods: A total of 2 823 college students (808 males, 2015 females) from two universities were selected. They were assessed with the Bedtime Procrastination Scale (BPS), Epworth Sleeping Scale (ESS, ESS score ≥11 indicated daytime sleepiness) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Process model 4 was used to test the mediating effect of sleep quality and model 14 was used to test the moderating effect of gender. Results: There were 1 214 (43.0%) college students suffering from daytime sleepiness. The scores of ESS in college students were positively associated with the BPS scores (B=0.16). The total scores of PSQI partially mediated the effect of BPS scores on college students' ESS scores, and the value of mediating effect was 39.9%. The association between PSQI scores and ESS scores was moderated by gender (p=0.13). Conclusion: Daytime sleepiness is associated with bedtime procrastination and sleep quality in college students, and the association be- tween sleep quality and daytime sleepiness is moderated by gender. AIM: To study the function of interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) in the lung development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) model mice by analyzing the interaction of IRF4 and forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) and their relevance with the proliferation of pulmonary vascular endothelial cells (PVECs). METHODS: The BPD model of C57BL/6 mice exposed to 85% hyperoxia was built, and the mice in normoxia group were used as normal control. These mice were randomly divided into normoxia for 7 d (N7) group, hyperoxia for 7 d (H7) group, normoxia for 14 d (N14) group and hyperoxia for 14 d (H14) group. The lung tissue was obtained at 7 and 14 d after exposure to normoxia or hyperoxia, and the pathological changes of lung tissues were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. The expression of platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1/CD31), a proliferative marker of PVECs, was detected by immunohistochemical staining. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), FOXP3 and IRF4. The interaction of IRF4 and FOXP3 proteins was detected by co-immunoprecipitation. RESULTS: Compared with normoxia group simultaneously, the average optical density of CD31 positive cells and the density of pulmonary vessels in hyperoxia group were significantly decreased (P<0. 01). The expression of VEGFA, Ang-1 and FOXP3 proteins in the lung tissue of mice in hyperoxia group was substantially reduced (P< 0. 01). Co-immunocoprecipitation showed that there was association between IRF4 and FOXP3, and the correlation of hyperoxia group was significantly enhanced compared with the normoxia group (P<0. 01). The expression of IRF4 and FOXP3 protein was significantly negatively correlated (R=−0. 932, P<0. 01), and the expression of FOXP3 protein was substantially positively correlated with CD31 (R=0. 865, P<0. 01). CONCLUSION: IRF4 may impact the proliferation of PVECs and the development of pulmonary vessels by inhibiting the expression of FOXP3 protein in the hyperoxia-induced BPD model mice. Objective To compare the clinical efficacy, adverse events, and immunological function status after medication of icotinib and gefitinib in the treatment of advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. Methods A total of 176 patients with EGFR mutation⁃positive lung adenocarcinoma confirmed by pathological biopsy at Guangxi Medical University Cancer Hospital from January 2012 to December 2019 were selected as the objects of study, and divided into the icotinib group and gefitinib group according to the targeted treatment regimen. The treatment efficacy were evaluated according to the RECIST 1.1 standard. The incidence of adverse reactions, differences of cellular immunity and humoral immunity indexes were compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference between icotinib and gefitinib in terms of objective response rate (60.0% vs 63.2%), disease control rate (94.0% vs 92.1%), median progression⁃free survival (9.5 months vs 8.9 months), median overall survival (21.7 months vs 18.5 months ) as well as overall incidence of adverse reactions (31.0% vs 34.2%) (all P>0.05) . There was no significant difference of cellular immune indicators (CD3+T cells, CD4+T cells, CD8+T cells, CD4+/CD8+, natural killer cells) and humoral immune indicator IgM between two groups (all P>0.05). However, the levels of humoral immune indicators IgG and IgA in gefitinib group were higher than those of icotinib group (all P<0.05). Conclusions The clinical efficacy and adverse events of icotinib and gefitinib are similar in the treatment of advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients with EGFR mutation⁃positive. The cellular immune functions of the two groups are also similar, but the levels of humoral IgG and IgA in gefitinib group are slightly higher than those in icotinib group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To analyze the etiology, clinical manifestations and treatment of one patient with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) complicated with periodontitis, and to clarify the importance of early prevention and treatment of periodontitis associated with T1DM, and to provide the basis for the diagnosis and treatment for the patients and clinicians. Methods: The clinical data of a female patient with the history of T1DM for 8 years were collected and the patient visited houspital due to“gingival atrophy for 1 year”. During the treatment, the blood glucose level of patient was monitored for a long time, and the color, morphology and texture of gingiva, probing depth (PD)of periodontal pocket, positive rate of bleeding on probing (BOP), and morphology of the alveolar bone were recorded 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after the initial periodontal therapy. The related literatures were reviewed, and the etiology, clinical characteristics, and the methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the T1DM patient complicated with periodontitis were summarized. Results: Before and after initial periodontal therapy, the blood glucose level of the patient was stable without significant fluctuations. Six weeks after initial periodontal therapy, the color of the patients’gingiva became lighter, the degree of swelling was decreased, the texture was tough, the PD of periodontal pocket was decreased, and the positive rate of BOP was decreased to 13%. One year after initial periodontal therapy, a small amount of tartar and soft dirt could be seen on some tooth surfaces, and the gingiva of the other teeth were light pink, thin and tough. The PD was 0－4 mm, and the BOP percentage was about 14%, and there was no loose teeth in the whole mouth. Conclusion: The patients with T1DM complicated with periodontitis should undergo the regular periodontal examinations and strict plaque control. On the premise of stable blood glucose, the initial periodontal therapy can effectively reduce the occurrence and development of the periodontal disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To investigate the etiology，clinical features，imaging findings，and prognosis of young patients with cerebral hemorrhage. Methods The risk factors，pathogenesis，clinical manifestations，bleeding sites and prognosis of 135 young patients with cerebral hemorrhage were analyzed retrospectively. Results The most common risk factors were hypertension（88 cases，65.2%）and dyslipidemia（49 cases，36.3%）.The sites of bleeding in the more than 15⁃year⁃old to 35-year⁃old group were concentrated in the brain lobe. Arteriovenous malformation might be a common cause of bleeding in this age group. The sites of bleeding in the more than 35⁃year⁃old to 45⁃year⁃old group were mainly concentrated in the basal ganglia region. Hypertension might be a common cause of bleeding in this age group. The Glasgow coma scale（GCS score）and the amount of bleeding might be related to the prognosis when the patient is admitted to the hospital. Whether or not he breaks into the ventricle might not be related to the prognosis of the patient. Conclusions Hypertension is a common risk factor for intracerebral hemorrhage in young people. The site of bleeding is different in different age groups. The lower the GCS score and the greater the amount of blood loss on admission，may lead to poor clinical outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
