本稿は「日本点字図書館」と改称して戦後の再出発した図書館事業発展の要因を探るために実施した同館の「事業報告」調査結果である。図書館事業発展の主たる要因は、蔵書数増加にもっとも尽力した点訳奉仕活動である。特筆すべき研究成果は、同胞による奉仕、すなわち「盲人読者による点写奉仕」が奉仕活動の一翼を担っていた史実が判明したことである。, This report investigated the factors in the business development of the Japan Braille Library after it resumed operations after the war. The main factor was “volunteer translators into Braille” which this study is notable for being the first to clarify this point, which is determined from the heading “Volunteer Copying by Blind Readers” in the library’s business reports for 1948-1958.

本年は日本点字図書館創設者の本間一夫と後援会長に就任した式場隆三郎のめぐりあいから70年の節目にあたる。筆者は、式場隆三郎による日本点字図書館後援活動史を探求するため継続調査を実施している。本稿では、この継続調査の研究対象（①式場隆三郎旧蔵資料「点字本ゴッホ」、②日本点字図書館所蔵資料「後援会発足準備」「盲人福祉調査渡米後援」）に着目し、式場隆三郎が「盲人福祉」に尽力した史実を明らかにする。

式場隆三郎が「盲人福祉」に尽力したことはよく知られている。日本医家芸術クラブの初代委員長である式場隆三郎が機関誌『医家芸術』を編集した時期は日本点字図書館後援会長の活動期と重なる。そこで、同機関誌の記事調査を試みた結果、日本点字図書館に関連する記事の掲載が35 件認められた。特筆すべきは本間一夫による寄稿文であった。, Ryuzaburo SHIKIBA is known to have been instrumental in the “welfare of the blind.” He was the first chairman of the Japan Medical Family Arts Club and compiled the journal “Medical Family Arts” during his tenure as a chairman of the Japan Braille Library. An attempt to examine the articles published in the abovementioned journal revealed that 35 articles pertained to the intention of raising awareness for the support of the Japan Braille Library. The contribution by Kazuo HONMA was particularly noteworthy.

本研究は、戦後昭和23 年4 月1 日に改称し再出発した日本点字図書館の創設者である本間の窮地を救った岩波書店と岩波書店の呼びかけによる出版社との協働の実態を明らかにした。日本点字図書館所蔵の保存資料「保存箱No. 4：墨字原本寄贈」を調査した結果、点訳用選定委員会が選定した選書合計565 冊の照会は、全9 回にわたり、全国出版協会及び日本出版協会関係の合計109 社に届けられていたことが判明した。, This paper reported the publishers’ approval for an Iwanami plan in the Japan Blind Library 1948‒1954. An investigation revealed several possibilities. One of these possibilities was that 109 publishers could donate a selection of 565 books to the library.

社会福祉法人日本点字図書館の前身となる日本盲人図書館を創設したのは本間一夫である。疎開先の北海道増毛にある本間の生家に置いてきた蔵書の一部が帰館した。そのうち点字出版書を対象に本年9 月までに収集した諸事象を補充し発行所の別に再考した結果、当時の点字図書の一部でもある27 件の点字出版所が製版発行した点字図書であることが判明した。これらは点字出版事業史を裏付ける貴重な資料であることが推察された。, This paper catalogs and reports on the braille books available as part of a certain collection in 1940s Japan. Specifically, it documents 27 published books held in the Japan Blind Library between 1940 and 1948.

本研究の目的は『図書館史』における「本間一夫と日本盲人図書館」の史実を探ることである。２９冊の文献調査の結果、７冊の書籍に記載のあることが判明した。また文献調査の結果、日本図書館協会からの依頼原稿を「図書館雑誌」（昭和１６年１０月）に日本盲人図書館経営者の肩書で「『日本盲人図書館』に就いて」と題する原稿を寄せていたことが判明した。日本盲人図書館創立後の早い時期に日本図書館協会が本間一夫と日本盲人図書館の存在を把握していたことが推察された。
