Low cost development of active debris removal (ADR) systems is required to realize the sustainable debris remediation strategy. An electrodynamic tether (EDT) is a promising candidate for the deorbit propulsion device of the ADR systems because of its advantages such as the absence of consumables, the absence of thrust vectoring, and the easy attachment to debris. IHIでは、JAXAの委託研究により、グループ内技術を活用した錯によるデブリ捕獲システムを検討してきた。しかし、火工品を用いた通常鈷では、反動抑制を行っても射出時の反力のばらつきを考慮すると、捕獲衛星本体の反力許容値に抑えることが困難であった。このため、委託研究において、捕獲対象が限定されないという「銛」の特性を生かしつつ、対象を貫通・捕獲する部分を小型化し、反力を抑制する「小型銛」方式の検討を開始した。本発表では「小型銛（パンチャ）」方式のデブリ捕獲システムの概念検討結果を報告する。デブリ捕獲時には、捕獲対象の姿勢や対象までの測距をステレオカメラ等により実施するが、その運用シーケンスについても提案する。また、本システムを超小型衛星に搭載した場合の衛星概念についても報告する。, Conceptual study for orbital debris removal system using small “harpoon", 会議情報: 第7回スペースデブリワークショップ (2016年10月18-20日. 宇宙航空研究開発機構調布航空宇宙センター(JAXA)(CAC)), 調布市, 東京, 形態: カラー図版あり, Meeting Information: The 7th Space Debris Workshop (October 18-20, 2016. JAXA plans to perform "Kounotori Integrated Tether Experiment'' (KITE) on HTV-6. In this experiment, we deploy 700m tether from HTV. In order to make an electrical circuit between ambient plasma and tether, we use the field emission cathode. The rendesvous sensors on the HTV allow us to monitor the relative motion of tether after releasing from HTV. By the experiment, we plan to investigate the dynamics of tether, characteristics of the tether current and voltage and its electrical influence on HTV due to EDT operation., JAXAはHTV-6号機にて導電性テザー実証実験（Kounotori Integrated Tether Experiment，以下、KITE）を実施予定である。本発表では、KITEの実験システムと実験の概要について報告する。KITEではHTVから700mのテザーを伸ばし、電流を流す。テザーに電流を流すためには、周辺プラズマと電気的に結合させる必要がある。KITEでは電子源モジュールから電子を放出させることにより、テザーに電流を流す。伸展後のテザーの挙動計測には、HTVが装備しているランデブーセンサを使用する。その他、HTVの機体電位状態を把握するための帯電電位モニタや、実験中の磁場環境を測定するための磁気センサ、及びテザーの挙動を撮影するためのカメラが装備されている。実験では、テザーの動的特性の取得、電流駆動原理の確認を行うほか、HTV機体への影響を調べる。, Meeting Information: The 7th Space Debris Workshop (October 18-20, 2016. An on-orbit demonstration of electrodynamic tether (EDT) on H-II Transfer Vehicle (HTV) is planned in JAXA. This plan is called KITE, Konotori Integrated Tether Experiment. The KITE is the first step to develop active space-debris removal systems using EDT. EDT is a promising as the de-orbit propulsion of the debris removal systems on low-earth orbits because of its various advantages, such as no consumable and low electric power required, no thrust vectoring needed during the maneuver, and easy attachment to debris. The primary objective of the KITE is to demonstrate the key technologies of EDT for debris removal., HTV6号機への搭載を目指して、JAXAでは導電性テザー（EDT）実証実験「KITE」の開発を進めている。EDTは、導電性のワイヤー（テザー）に流れる電流と地磁気との干渉によって生じる電磁気力を利用する推進剤不要の推進系であり、システムの小型軽量化が可能な点に加え、マヌーバ中の推力方向制御が不要であることやデブリへの固定の容易性などの点で、低軌道デブリのデオービット用推進系として有力である。KITEでは700m級のテザーによるEDT技術の実証を予定しており、EDTを使用したデブリ除去システム構築のための最初のステップとなる。, Meeting Information: 6th Space Debris Workshop (December 17-19, 2014. Simple estimation of the payload performance of orbit transfer vehicles (OTVs) for Space Solar Power System (SSPS) was conducted. In order to reduce the transportation cost in SSPS program, it is important to increase the payload ratio of OTVs so that the transportation requirement for reusable launch vehicles is decreased. In this study, it was suggested that hundreds of OTVs carry the materials separately and SSPS is assembled on geostationary earth orbit. Estimation results indicated that the payload ratios of OTVs were approximately 0.5 in the four cases with types of electric and thermal thrusters used. Mass breakdowns of the OTVs were also shown in the four cases. An Electrodynamic tether (EDT) is an attractive propulsion device for active debris removal systems. One of the key components of the EDT system is an electron emission device, and we have studied a field emission cathode (FEC) using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) because of its simplicity and potential capabilities. Since EDT systems are operated in low earth orbit (LEO), the CNTs in the FEC may be affected by atomic oxygen (AO), so the effect of AO irradiation on the FEC was studied. We conducted AO irradiation tests on FECs using laser detonation beam facilities and compared the pre- and post-irradiation electron emission characteristics. As a result, the FEC could not emit electrons when the total AO fluence of 3×10(exp20) /cm2 was irradiated perpendicular to the emission surface. In this case, CNTs on the emitter surface disappeared by AO irradiation. When the irradiation direction was parallel to the emission surface, on the other hand, the FEC could emit electrons after the irradiation although the required voltage increased up to 1.5 times as high as that of pre-irradiation condition. This comparison indicated that the direction of AO irradiation has strong effect on the performance degradation of the FEC on orbit.

イオンエンジンを利用して静止軌道上の大型デブリを投棄軌道に輸送するデブリ除去方法を提案した。除去機にはイオンエンジンを2 台搭載し、一方のイオンエンジンから噴射したイオンビームでデブリを照射して推力を与え、その軌道を変更する。他方のイオンエンジンの推力によってデブリとの間隔を一定範囲に保ちつつ、約300 km 高い投棄軌道まで除去機の高度を上げる。本方式はデブリの把持が不要なため、デブリの詳細形状に依存しないし、回転しているデブリにも適用できる。ミッション検討例では、軌道上初期質量1.5ton の除去機を用いて約170 日で6 個のデブリが除去できた。本方法に特有な課題であるイオンビームの収束性については、数値計算と基礎実験によって必要な照射効率を達成する目処を得た。ビーム被照射面からのバックスパタリングについては、実験的な評価によって致命的な除去機の汚染問題がないことを確認した。, We proposed a concept for a reorbiter using ion engines to reorbit large GEO debris objects up to a disposal orbit. The reorbiter, equipped with two ion engines, exhausts an ion beam from one of the ion engines to irradiate and thrust a debris object to change its orbit. The other ion engine is operated so that the reorbiter follows the debris object. Their orbits are raised to a disposal orbit approximately 300 km higher. This system can operate without catching debris objects; thus, it can be applied without regard to their detailed shapes or rotations. A typical model mission was studied, and the results showed that six debris objects can be reorbited in about 170 days with a reorbiter of 1.5 ton. The beam convergence and the effects of beam irradiation were recognized as critical issues. Numerical calculations and basic experiments gave a feasibility of the required irradiation efficiency. 低軌道デブリ除去機のデオービット推進系への適用を目指して、JAXA 研究開発本部では導電性テザー（EDT）技術の研究開発を進めている。EDT は、導電性のひも（テザー）に流れる電流と地球磁場との干渉により発生するローレンツ力を推進力として利用する推進系であり、推進剤を必要とせずに大きな速度増分を得ることができる。低コスト・小型・軽量・簡素なシステムの開発が重要となるデブリ除去実現のためには、上記のEDT の特徴は大きな利点となる。本発表では、デブリ除去システム実現に向けた技術実証の１ステップとして検討されているEDT の軌道上技術実証実験に向けた各要素技術の研究開発状況について、その概要を紹介する。, Electrodynamic tether (EDT) technologies have been studied for future active debris removal systems in the Aerospace Research and Development Directorate, JAXA. The EDT is an advanced propulsion system which utilizes the interaction between an electric current through the tether and the geomagnetic field for thrust generation. In order to realize low-cost active debris removal systems, simple and efficient deorbit propulsion is needed, and the EDT is a promising candidate for such a propulsion system because of its propellant-less mechanism and high-efficiency in weight and electrical power.
