Objective To investigate the demands for clinical teaching and clinical teachers among nursing undergraduates who participated in their clinical internship, and provide reference for quality improvement of clinical teaching and practice. Methods Totally 179 nursing undergraduates were recruited by a convenience sampling method, and a open-ended questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate nursing undergraduates’ demands for clinical teaching. Results The most-demanded issue of clinical teaching was combination of theory and practice (95. 53%), followed by the clinical experience teaching (88. 27%). Nursing students preferred patience (88. 27%)and encouragement (82. 12%)as key issues in clinical teaching. Conclusion The clinical teaching of theory and practice, particularly in combination, was in high demand among nursing undergraduates. Clinical teachers should pay attention to the combination of theory and practice, and provide more opportunities of independent practice for cultivating students’ clinical thinking abilities. Moreover, clinical teacher should help students build self-confidence and self-esteem, further improving the quality of clinical teaching.
